Stabilis -> EpicDuel General Discussion: Thread Crowding (3/4/2012 16:53:33)

http://forums2.battleon.com/f/tm.asp?m=20123647

This is the thread which has a very high traffic.

I have a suggestion to handle spacing.

The mentioned thread is at an interesting high each day. Pages become lost in the past all too quickly. My suggestion is to divide the Balance Discussion into 6 sub-forums (threads). A thread per each class, "Balance Discussion: Mercenaries", "Balance Discussion: Bounty Hunters", "Balance Discussion: Tech Mages", "Balance Discussion: Tactical Mercenaries", "Balance Discussion: Cyber Hunters", "Balance Discussion: Blood Mages"

This has been suggested many times - Like Character pages, these take a lot of time to implement.

You'll just have to be patient for now.

What do you do when you fight say a Mercenary and you lose against them a lot? Do you post in the Merc thread that they're OPd or do you post in your class thread that you're UPd? Balance is relative. Breaking it down into separate sections will just cause a bunch of confusion and a lot of conflicting arguments. There will be some saying that Mercenary is OPd while others say your class is UPd and instead of searching through just one thread, the staff would need to look through 6 threads which may get even more cluttered than just 1 thread

Perhaps the DF forums might be a solution?
In there we have a Game support forum.
That is where can be discussed what classes/items/etc.. are better so perhaps it can be used in ED forums for the classes?
There is already a strategy forum, but if that can be part of the GS forum, the problem might be solved and there won't necesarily be extra confusion. :)

You're right, a single thread's no longer ideal. I can make no promises but we'll look into the possibilities.

And to further displace the content, a thread for "Balance Discussion: Stats and Skills" and possibly "Balance Discussion: Equipment", I believe that is all.

I believe the best way to handle this would either be to allow balance discussion throughout the EpicDuel General Discussion or create a subforum specifically forum balance discussions.

As ND Mallet pointed out, creating categories for balance isn't a good way to handle it. There are many balance topics that don't fall cleanly in any one category, and creating 8 or 9 threads to cover all the categories may be too specific. It also doesn't address the main problem in the current balance thread where there are discussions on multiple distinct topics in the same thread. Two very different topics shouldn't have to share the same thread.

We're still looking at the pros & cons of each solution, and the setup will change. The current setup of one thread is not helping the players communicate balance problems or helping me and the rest of the balance team keep on top of all the discussion.
