I will not bore you with the details of Thursday's funeral. I will tell you, however, that it took place in the forest. In the rain. And in the evening. The antlered ones were there, and the sylphs, and his friends. Panpipes were played. Slow, slow, songs were sung. And small gifts were placed on the black oak coffin that stood upon the small grassy knoll, soaked with thick mist and drizzling rain. The mist was what really brought it home. That he was dead. They brought him a little wooden box. And a letter. Concluded with a heart. Delivered by someone too frightened to deliver it to him when he was alive. His daughter was flown in from Seattle to watch. She screamed. At first. But the old sea captain with one eye held her tightly. And she stopped. And wiped the tears from her eyes. And mourned. In silence. Because no matter how deep her father was buried. No matter how much he was tortured. And no matter what reanimated him. He had died long, long ago. And could never really come back to life. -TRANSMISSION END-
