Yeah, Selutu deserves a Strength Level of 5. He did give himself the very antithesis of a superpower.

Well, I could guess the Life Absorption could go like this. Drain 1% health from someone every thirty or sixty seconds (whichever is more reasonable), so 100% would take either fifty minutes or one hundred minutes. The health absorbed from someone else restores your own damaged body, and the continuous drain only works if contact is not broken. The poor sap would regenerate the absorbed health over time. That, and a slow power upgrade (lose two seconds of time every twenty percent drop) to prevent it from quickly evolving into game-breaker.

Astroking112 -> RE: Super-Powerd (NY) OOC (Game under construction) (4/18/2012 17:44:04)

@Selutu:
Thanatos now seems legit. But- do you want to nerf him a little for kkutwar's Life Absorption, or keep him as is? If you choose the latter, I'll accept Thanatos and add him into the game, or we can work out the Life Absorption for him.

@Superemo:
I'm sorry, but the increased speed/reflexes/vision is too powerful as is. Please either nerf it more, or select a new power.

Superemo -> RE: Super-Powerd (NY) OOC (Game under construction) (4/19/2012 1:10:15)

Added in an immunity to the effects of Dull Water. The only way for him to recharge now is to carry his stone.
Is kkut done whining about perceiving him as overpowered now?

kkutwar -> RE: Super-Powerd (NY) OOC (Game under construction) (4/19/2012 4:28:29)

Well, given you have three times better speed/reflexes/sight than most living humans in-universe... You would be at a major advantage honestly. Absolutely nobody else has enhanced natural abilities like that, the Heroes and Neutrals are at 4 or under. You are a Villain, thus perfectly justifiable for you to kill off other players. Be quite some nasty body injuries by running at full speed and grabbing people. They wouldn't be adjusted to the speeds you move at, so throwing/ramming them against a wall should be quite effective. Honestly, I don't see how this would be acceptable. There are only four players so far with higher-than-human physical abilities, but the exact percentage is unknown. If most of the players don't have superhuman abilities and one suddenly does, there would be quite a contrast between them. I am no idiot, since you move three times faster it would certainly be harder for anyone not matching that to prevent your attacks. Which is nearly every living human in-universe. Our Strength Levels can drop, so frankly all you need to do is play cat and mouse heading in S.W.A.T direction before ditching the other guy. Other guy gets caught, and you get away since humans are three times slower than you with three times worse reflexes. The only guys with a 5 and 6 are also Villains, and the Villains do want to work together or else they'll just lose too easily. You can say all you want about how this isn't overpowered, but frankly how many super-strong guys do you expect to be chasing you? Additionally, if you're immune to Dull-Water that actually has it upsides since nobody could force-feed you some to make you weaker. Your speed/reflexes/sight would evolve further over time, and all you need to do is speed around the city if you lost your crystal somehow.

Hey, Astro, question. Can our crystal be dissolved by stomach acid? If not, if we swallow our crystal would its stability regenerating effect still be in place?

Selutu -> RE: Super-Powerd (NY) OOC (Game under construction) (4/19/2012 5:49:28)

@kkutwar
Oh, like that! It's a good idea.

@Astroking
I'll nerf him a little to add in kkutwar's Life Absorption idea.

So is this alright?
Name: Thanatos
Allegiance: Villian
Inventory:
1) Father's Scythe
2) Father's Sword
Crystal: A black Orb shaped ruby that is about five times the size of a human fist.
Power:
1) Able to sense where swords, daggers, knives or scythes that are within a 7m radius away from him (however the further away it is from him, the less exact the location he can sense it. E.g. When it is 50cm away from him, he can sense the exact location of it like how many cm it is under a table etc. However if is 7m away from him, he can only tell that a weapon is in a room, but cannot tell where exactly in the room it is etc.)
2) Weapon Manipulation - Able to use daggers, swords, knives and scythes with near perfect techniques (about as skilled as Himura Kenshin is with a sword)
3) Starting off with father's scythe and sword
4) Decreased Ranged accuracy - If a normal person would hit a target 100% of the time with a gun, Thanatos would only be able to hit it 60%-75% of the time.
5) Life Absorption - Drain 1% health from a single target every 60 seconds, so 100% would take one hundred minutes. The link will be broken when Thanatos cannot concentrate on it (e.g. when fighting a 4 or more fighters which are equal or above a red-belt in Tae Kwon Do in terms of fighting abilities or fighting another extremely skilled fighter) also it can be broken when Thanatos does not know the location of the target.
Strength Level:
Stability: 100%
Appearance: A black haired young teenager that's about 6'1 in height. Relatively thin.
History: Thanatos was just an average delinquent that always got into fights. With his father being a specialist in Karate and Kendou, he has studied those 2 types of martial arts for quite a while. At the age of 8, he began to be fascinated by other weapons such as scythes, which is why his father bought him one after getting 100% in his maths, English, Chinese and Japanese exam. However after the death of his father and the marriage of his mother to his English teacher at the age of 13, he began to hate the world and ran away from home with nothing but his scythe and his father's sword, thus beginning his life on the streets. He found his crystal when he accidentally tripped in a dark alleyway being chased by the police for killing another person in a street fight.

Superemo -> RE: Super-Powerd (NY) OOC (Game under construction) (4/19/2012 6:39:06)

Kkut, you're acting under a lot of assumptions. The chief ones being: A) None of the player characters will try hunting me down, and B) Astro won't throw in any NPCs with powers.
You also completely failed to acknowledge exactly how fast I'm moving. An impact at 36 miles per hour could cause injury, but not death, unless the person hit their head. I can't crush anyone with a car moving at 36 mph, because I can't move a car, because I don't have super-strength. A punch at 3 times normal human speed would inflict massive damage, at the cost of rendering my arm unusable for the rest of the game.
Furthermore, you ignored my earlier statement that, while my powers would theoretically enable me to hit someone at super-speed, I would be hit by exactly as much force in response. If I headbutt someone at ridiculous speeds, I'm going to break my skull open. I have super-speed, not the implied super-endurance from super-strength.
If you have a legitimate problem with any of my powers that I have not already addressed, I'm free to hear them. But, so far, you're just listing perceived problems I've already addressed, and you chose to ignore my address of.

Selutu -> RE: Super-Powerd (NY) OOC (Game under construction) (4/19/2012 7:16:06)

@Supremo
I think one of the point that kkwutwar is trying to make is that having 3x Speed means that most of the characters won't be able to catch up to you, making you able to just avoid them for the whole game.
And then there's this:
quote:

Our Strength Levels can drop, so frankly all you need to do is play cat and mouse heading in S.W.A.T direction before ditching the other guy.

Superemo -> RE: Super-Powerd (NY) OOC (Game under construction) (4/19/2012 7:44:55)

Exactly. I can avoid people. There is literally nothing else I can do. If I so much as touch anyone while I'm moving at super-speed, I get hit with the full force of my speed.

Selutu -> RE: Super-Powerd (NY) OOC (Game under construction) (4/19/2012 8:22:33)

But avoiding people and the ability to be able to play cat-and-mouse to lead others into the S.W.A.T. team is deadly enough. And also you won't literally have to touch them... You could use sling or something. The three times speed you have could cause the sling to sling an item which can pierce through someone's leg at least. Also, you don't only have to use a sling, you could use any weapon that has a pivot to create maximum potential of your speed to cause damage.

kkutwar -> RE: Super-Powerd (NY) OOC (Game under construction) (4/19/2012 15:00:10)

Huh... I could of swore I mentioned the enhanced healing factor and lesser food/drink requirements from super speed. Well, regardless, I just realized that same conclusion this morning. Since throwing something requires force, and more speed equals greater force Supes character would be able to throw stuff three times further/harder than a normal human. So not only does he have awesome dodging powers, but he could snipe people to death using kitchen knives. That, and people will probably be horribly injured if he grabs them before running off at top speed with them held onto. Plus, given he can see three times further, he can preemptively avoid events without ever being noticed himself (The S.W.A.T. attacks downtown, and darts off in a direction that they wouldn't even bother with at the moment). So, not only is he a master expert of dodging, but he has Enhanced Throwing Capability and can outright avoid major game events. Factor in the Speedster Jump, his boosted healing process, and lesser need for food/drink this is quite a lottery winner. Plus, given enough speed and stability drop he would eventually be able to defy gravity to a degree. Final Note, though evil is one big happy family and Heroes/Neutrals won't be going out of their way to hassle him one of the sides have to win. So, eventually, he will end up fighting another player regardless if he started it or not.

Astroking112 -> RE: Super-Powerd (NY) OOC (Game under construction) (4/19/2012 17:54:00)

Note: The game is going to begin soon. Since we have an equal number of villains/heroes, I want to get this game underway. I will be more likely to accept 1 more neutral now.

@Selutu:
Thanatos has been accepted. I'll add him in.

@Supes:
Though the whole "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction" thing helps, there's still far too many exploitable things to do. Even if you are immune to Dull-Water, there's nothing stopping you from taking all of it just to gain an advantage over the Neutrals/Heroes. And, Dull-Water CAN be bad in some instances, since getting over 100% is treated as critical...

kim346 -> RE: Super-Powerd (NY) OOC (Game under construction) (4/20/2012 0:09:32)

Bit confused with my "update...."

Superemo -> RE: Super-Powerd (NY) OOC (Game under construction) (4/20/2012 1:27:25)

Kkut, throwing anything at a target is different from it actually hitting the target. I said he had good sight, not that he had good aim. The whole "grabbing someone and running off with them" thing would work, but it would also rip his arms out of their sockets. Bodies at rest tend to stay at rest unless acted upon by an outside force. They're about 175 lbs of dead weight. If I grabbed them, my arms would get dislocated when I tried to run. If I lifted them off the ground first, they'd get a ride at the speed of a slow car. If I grabbed their shirt, I'd end up ripping their shirt off.

Astro, on the other hand, raises a valid concern...
How about Dull Water has a kryptonite effect on me? That better?

Selutu -> RE: Super-Powerd (NY) OOC (Game under construction) (4/20/2012 4:38:14)

@Superemo
Assuming an average human hits the target 25% of the time, then you would hit the target 75% because of the increased speed and sight. Also assuming that, it would mean that in the time an average human manages to hit the target once, you would have hit it 3 times...

Also a Kryptonite effect wouldn't really nerf him that much... As kkutwar said, there is nothing to stop you stealing all the Dull Water and hiding it... Also since the majority of characters can't force-feed you the Dull Water, it doesn't really help...

Superemo -> RE: Super-Powerd (NY) OOC (Game under construction) (4/20/2012 5:03:33)

^Did I say it only affected me when I drank it? No. Stop putting words into my mouth.
Also, one can see something, but be unable to hit it. As I just said, aiming at something is a lot different from just looking at it. Anyone who's ever thrown darts can attest to that. It's a matter of technique. Throwing something to hit a target, especially one that's trying to avoid getting hit, while outside, in even a slight wind, is a lot harder than you seem to think it is.
Being able to see three times as far is not the same thing as being able to hit a target three times as far away. There are far more things that factor into aim than what you see.

Selutu -> RE: Super-Powerd (NY) OOC (Game under construction) (4/20/2012 7:25:35)

@^
Then you mean it will affect you even when you are in contact with it? If so then you can just dodge it...
Also what I meant was that you would have 3 times as much chance to hit a target than a normal human would... And being able to see three times as far, meaning that you will be able to see the enemy 3 times quicker than they see you, thus giving you 3 times as much time to prepare.

random fun 12 -> RE: Super-Powerd (NY) OOC (Game under construction) (4/20/2012 11:09:56)

AstroKinbg: Just how often will updates be. Like every 3-4 days?

Superemo -> RE: Super-Powerd (NY) OOC (Game under construction) (4/20/2012 14:09:44)

@Selutu: Have you never seen anything to do with Superman? Whenever Kryptonite is anywhere near him (about 3 feet, give or take), his powers get nullified and he starts going unstable. That's essentially what I'm suggesting for my character. If he gets anywhere near any dull-water, he starts to short out.
The only way he can restore stability is with his crystal. Even being near dull-water makes him fizzle.

Starstruck -> RE: Super-Powerd (NY) OOC (Game under construction) (4/20/2012 21:35:43)

I really really hope I can join this because it looks fun.

Selutu -> RE: Super-Powerd (NY) OOC (Game under construction) (4/20/2012 22:54:21)

@Supremo
But my point still stand that you can just avoid the Dull Water. And what about this?
quote:

Assuming an average human hits the target 25% of the time, then you would hit the target 75% because of the increased speed and sight. Also assuming that, it would mean that in the time an average human manages to hit the target once, you would have hit it 3 times...

There is nothing stopping you from doing that. If it takes 6 minutes for an average person to defeat a S.W.A.T. team (which is not very probably, but you get the idea...) You would just take 2 minutes to do so. Also about the S.W.A.T. team, they are nearly of no threat to you as you can just merely avoid them.

@Starstruck
The telekinesis is way too OP... There is nothing to stop you from just lifting and dropping an object continuously on top of another character's head that is on the other side of New York. You really need to nerf the limit of creating objects a lot... Just dropping an object the weight of an egg from the 7th floor is able to fracture a human skull. Then the decreasing stability... That will work towards your advantage most of the time. Possibly able to let you increase your Strength Level, then while doubling your stability will save you in lots of situations...

Superemo -> RE: Super-Powerd (NY) OOC (Game under construction) (4/21/2012 1:17:55)

...
You just completely ignored what I said about the difference between aiming and sight.
I'm done arguing with you.

@Astro: If you want to let kkut and Selutu run your game, let them. Let them post the updates, too. If you let them make decisions over what powers are to be allowed and what's overpowered or not, you might as well just hand them the game.
You're making me nerf myself even more, when I showed that my powers can kill me, and give me no advantage other than being able to avoid things.
I even added in something that makes me even weaker, in order to prevent someone from saying I could do something I never had any intent to do in the first place.

If this is GMing nowadays, count me out as a player. I withdraw my application. I'm not going to play a game run of two players who have the GM in their pocket.

Selutu -> RE: Super-Powerd (NY) OOC (Game under construction) (4/21/2012 1:51:30)

@^
Firstly I'm not trying to run Astoking's game. I'm just stating things off my mind.
Also I've taken into account of the difference between aiming and sight. All I'm saying is that with 3x the speed, you are 3x as likely to hit the target. And with 3x sight, you have 3x the preparation time. I never said that they were the same thing.

Kosefira -> RE: Super-Powerd (NY) OOC (Game under construction) (4/21/2012 11:25:48)

kkutwar and Selutu, say what you want about Superemo's powers on his character, but in the end Astroking has the final say on the matter. The debate should have been between those two without either of you getting too involved.

Astroking, I don't see how Superemo's character is, sorry, was that unbalanced. Yes, he could move and react faster and had better vision, but with low strength that could have been managed. Newton's third law of motion would have meant that a 50 mile run up punch would have the same impact as running a horse cart into a brick wall: powerful, but damaging.
An increase in speed also means a loss of control. Try throwing ping-pong balls into a bucket one at a time, aiming each throw. Now try the same thing but throwing them as fast as possible. Even with 60,000/20 vision, you probably wouldn't be as accurate as before.
Also, Superemo never mentioned anything about his endurance, meaning running at an increased speed would also take more stamina and tire him out faster. All it would take for the S.W.A.T team to catch him is set up a lot of vehicles to maintain a steady pursuit and wait for him to tire. And with his weakness to dull water, a common garden sprinkler could easily be used to stop Speedy Steve.

Superemo, Astroking hasn't responded since you brought up the Dull Water Weakness theory. You haven't even given him a chance to say what he means before you left, and the way you left was rather disrespectful.

I've taken a liking to this game, please don't make me stop it.

kkutwar -> RE: Super-Powerd (NY) OOC (Game under construction) (4/21/2012 11:56:21)

I have no idea what Selutu is doing but I already admitted defeat (well, admitting be "not saying anything else on the matter"). After a while the arguing becomes pointless and someone has to win. Well, disregarding this topic, as is in Eagle's update there are two supers fighting yet they aren't any of the other players. Is that some sort of temporal thing or just two NPCs fighting each other?

@Emperor Kosefira the Great: I mean no disrespect to you sir, but if the vagabond has a hatred of supers and he doesn't know your abilities touching him without prior warning may invoke a negative reaction from him. Twis like the blind who govern no sight, those who possess hatred are not easily won over. Though they are given aid by those they hate they continue to hate them regardless. These are events we have no prescience of, thus one should not act on whims lest we doom ourselves.

@Kosefira: I acknowledge the fact you are following the character's personality, just thought I should mention that regardless. That, and it sounds so neatly medieval European for some reason.

Starstruck -> RE: Super-Powerd (NY) OOC (Game under construction) (4/21/2012 14:22:42)

In response to your suggestions, I have introduced a range requirement and elaborated more on that mysterious Limitation of Anti-Godmode. While it's pointless and silly because I would never let him do that, I have taken the possibilities to mind in creating restrictions.

The barriers of "any shape" don't refer to just simple things like swords and shields. We're talking this guy could make a helicopter out of glowy blue stuff if he wanted to, and in fact doing so might be useful because he doesn't have to exert himself overmuch to keep it aloft. I might go ahead and state that it strains him to create things out of his mind, but that should be apparent. Creating a single complex object is much more efficient than creating multiple simple barriers.

Er...that's it. I'll wait for Astroking's response.
