ur going to fail -> Can I get a reason why? (5/21/2012 15:41:25)

I'm not a big nulgath fan, but I saw some of demos for oversoul and it looks like a good game; even better if its MMO. But one thing I noticed was it had sound effects while ED still doesn't... Why not?

Are you guys in favour of sound effects?

Would you like to see it happen?

Do you tihnk we should go as far as MQ with sound effects?

Do you think they would be a waste of the developers time?

frogbones -> RE: Can I get a reason why? (5/21/2012 15:49:07)

If it doesn't make Artix/ED money, it's not a priority.

Wraith -> RE: Can I get a reason why? (5/21/2012 15:52:28)

1) Yes
2) Wut? XD
3) No.

DarkLore -> RE: Can I get a reason why? (5/21/2012 15:55:44)

1. Yes I'm in favor of them!
2. I'd love to see it happen!
3. Maybe not in the sense of ripping off the sound effects. But making original machine and gun/blaster noises is good!
4. Not a waste of time. The staff is just too busy to do it yet!

On a side note they should add victory and defeated battle fanfare!

InceptionAE -> RE: Can I get a reason why? (5/21/2012 17:39:18)

I am in favour of having no sounds. Sound causes lag and I'm definitely going to get frustrated with every dang noob I face with a laggy computer playing SOUND. So NO thanks with your idea. Sound may seem great but it causes lag. Until ED has better servers we'll see.

Stabilis -> RE: Can I get a reason why? (5/21/2012 19:07:45)

@DungeonHunter,

Lag is often server-sided and because of that it is completely the under control of us and the administrators. One point, the administrators can do multiple, multiple managements to audio, including, but not limited to: compression (reducing data by reducing fuzziness/empty sound), splicing (merging multiple audio files into one file), snapping (splitting audio files into smaller files), conversion (transforming one format of audio into another [simpler formats take up less data]), just to name a few.

Two points, users can be given options to manage their audio, including turning it off or on (switches), or memory limits (audio quality), for example. Ultimately, these audio processes are not an ongoing burden as like any other feature that the administrators or we control, can be used or avoided. So, I find this idea totally feasible, and a very nice charm to future development.

.R.M. -> RE: Can I get a reason why? (5/21/2012 19:53:33)

Sound affects in battle would be cool. But they wouldn't have to go as far as with MQ... They have a small beep or buzz for almost every button XD Though, that is pretty nice too :3

Fay Beeee -> RE: Can I get a reason why? (5/21/2012 20:17:03)

Well not what I need. lol It might interfere with my chatting. :)
As long as they do an OFF button, it would be OK I suppose?

I will hover on this one, as I am not sure.

Always good to come up with ideas though, so Good Luck. :)

Have fun.

InceptionAE -> RE: Can I get a reason why? (5/21/2012 20:25:47)

@Depressed Void

Try going on a slow computer with sound. It will definitely lag. Most of the people i face end up having computers much slower then me. Giving them sound will mean I'll have to wait longer for their animations to finish. I used to be with a Dell 2003 desktop computer, its laggy as hell with sound on ED and even on low graphics. Also as a side note, I have a cousin whose almost 9 years old is playing ED and he's on a slow netbook, with having everything checked. Default animations slider, and playing on High graphics. Simply cause he don't know about that. Sometimes I tell him but he's too lazy to do so. Which brings my point on why ED shouldn't get better sound. There's a lot of people with slow computers, and a lot of people that I could almost call "idiots" because they simply don't know anything about the settings. I'll get frustrated if this gets released cause I HATE WAITING in battles. Especially when it comes to people with slow computers. Giving improved quality of sound will make the battles much more slower.

^ That would be a personal problem. ED is an incompatible platform, as in, it runs on a universally used platform (Flash: a multimedia platform), and because of that, unless Titan and Rabble program different modules for different computers (like a slow Windows 2000 or a fast Linux system). Since this issue is really relative to what computer is used and how compatible it is with Flash's processing units and RAM, it comes down to the user. If they cannot run EpicDuel properly without lag, and Titan and Rabble will not program mirrors of EpicDuel's engine, then unfortunately it becomes the user's personal issue and unless they want to continue playing EpicDuel (it is just a game after all), they will have to determine their own methods of how to improve their Flash drive whether it be by purchasing a new computer, new hardware, or getting technical with Flash's customer support for customizing processing I/O, memory limits or thresholds.

A big part of having programs like EpicDuel's interface work well is being thoroughly documented. It could be documented by visuals (things you see like text or pictures), audio (not used very well in ED), or "touch" (I/O with mouse and keyboard). If EpicDuel is not functioning well enough to provide the user with clear evidence as to how to manage something like audio settings, that is in fact a fault on the administrator's end because in the user's opinion, the game was not helpful enough to explain or help to understand some of the user's abilities within the game's functions.

Still a workable idea. [:)]

NaturesWarrior -> RE: Can I get a reason why? (5/21/2012 20:56:44)

Why would they add sound effects when you could listen to your own music to fill the silence?

Stabilis -> RE: Can I get a reason why? (5/21/2012 21:03:02)

I feel like an advocate for UR's thread but, whateva...

@NaturesWarrior,

Problem: EpicDuel is lacking the audio to give the user the entertainment value of sound (1 of the 2 senses used in video games)

Alternative: User goes to a third party source (Youtube, MP3/4, etc) just to fulfill the missing entertainment value.

Solution: EpicDuel implements music and sound to satisfy the user's want for audio. Sight and sound are complete.

NaturesWarrior -> RE: Can I get a reason why? (5/21/2012 21:13:43)

@Depressed, What music and sound would you suggest? Personally i'm fine with taking 30 seconds of my time to go on youtube and find music i can listen to
several times over. Epicduel does not Need music and sound. Its gone almost 3 years without it. I'm sure we can survive without it. Besides the players don't
seem to mind since this game makes lots of money without music or sound.

Do you want my opinion on what I feel is suitable to EpicDuel?

That is completely fine.

The problem as you can see is that without music/extensive sound in EpicDuel, you are being inclined to scavenge for your own sources of entertainment to a degree. That is, if playing EpicDuel makes you want to get your music playing. With music in EpicDuel, and if you like it, you would not have to search on your own time just to feel satisfied. 'v'

That is a very good point, EpicDuel does not use sound yet has been thriving for all the while. I am not trying to say that we need sound in EpicDuel necessarily, but that we want sound, and EpicDuel offers us no sound (if not including beeping sound effects). If we were to implement enjoyable sound, music, effects, and all that we generally appreciate, would you think that it would in fact benefit this game that we play?

This game definitely does make a lot of money if you notice the number of updates that we receive (including Hudelf when he came to us by delivery stork [thumbs up you get this]). There are some players to note that have left EpicDuel entirely like Sparticus or Xendran and some others that I have forgotten... ... ... ... ... anyways, maybe by chance, some of these players would still be with us today if EpicDuel offered us the pleasure of sound and music to boost the entertainment rating.

I don't get why every one wants sounds?? i mean get your own guys, its not against any rule to play your favorite songs while playing Ed ....

drinde -> RE: Can I get a reason why? (5/22/2012 5:17:32)

I'd like to hear sound effects, it's proven possible with George the Lowe. However, that also proves how annoying it could get... So an off button is a must if they put in sounds.

Heck, they could even upload sounds from the other AE games that fit to this one. Even just two different sounds for Energy attacks and Physical attacks would be great.

Clavier -> RE: Can I get a reason why? (5/22/2012 8:50:36)

Exactly. Sounds when starting a battle is also cool.

Renegade Reaper -> RE: Can I get a reason why? (5/22/2012 14:56:03)

i really don't think we need sound effects in epic duel. it could make lag even worse, especially if you have a slow computer or internet.
also, you have the advantage of listening to your own music, rather than recycled sound effects.

Cinderella -> RE: Can I get a reason why? (5/22/2012 16:14:24)

part of the issue is that we have one sound guy at AE, and EpicDuel sound is not as high a priority as AQW sound, or coding Oversoul, or composing music for Oversoul. All of which Warlic is doing. We would be composing music (unless you want my unrecognizable covers of Buddy Holly's entire catalog, possibly in Quenya or Klingon), which takes time. Also, if our players are anything like me, they'll listen to the song once then mute the game forever after and listen to their own things. I love Kimberly and Voltaire, and Alina, and Paul and Storm and Mia Park, but the only AQW musical event that I actually kept the music on for the whole time was They Might be Giants. Maybe I'd change my tune (har de har har) if they got some band like Nightwish or Arch Enemy.

That's not to say we would never do more sounds or voice stuff- Nightwraith and I have done quite a bit of performance in our time, including onstage, and there are other staff willing to do voiceovers if we needed it- but it is pretty low on the to-do list.

Also: Frogbones: don't say that the company can't make money from background music- note the "NPC Critical Hits" CD in HeroMart.

frogbones -> RE: Can I get a reason why? (5/22/2012 16:17:38)

I was thinking more sound effects, not songs or background music.
