Camoflague MerC -> Level 35 Permanent level cap? (7/17/2012 0:23:51)

Hi guys,

I think that lvl 35 should be the permanent lvl cap, balance is poor as it stands, so raising the level cap just widens the problem. Not to mention i know TO many builds that would be unstoppable if the lvl cap precceded to lvl 40 or even 45. I know alot of people including myself that would permanently quit if the lvl cap goes past 35, what do you guys think?

Mr. Black OP -> RE: Level 35 Permanent level cap? (7/17/2012 0:28:49)

Nope, if the devs simply stop making weapons everyone will be using level 33-35 weapons at higher levels stat inflation will become non existent at really high levels due to enhancements being a necessity in order to have good stats. You may ask something like: what about non variums? If you do not buy any weapons from lv 35->40+ you would have a ton of credits saved up. Here is the only problem, due to the devs wanting to make money they would refuse to do this.
In order to prevent this the devs can simply make a membership like Dragon amulet, guardian ship, etc, and add more varium features, like gender change, varium/member events only, an upgrade on the house system so it's enjoyable which will lead to profit without causing imbalance in the game.

But doing this would allow the level cap to be raised without causing imbalance, it would actually lead to balance.

liy010 -> RE: Level 35 Permanent level cap? (7/17/2012 0:30:33)

I think 35 is fine. Heck, I would've preferred 34 but AE needs more levels to make money.

More Levels=Higher level items=Lower level items become outdated=More people want to buy higher level items=More people buy Varium=More money for AE

Dreiko Shadrack -> RE: Level 35 Permanent level cap? (7/17/2012 0:33:02)

This is actually something I've been pondering myself, not specfically level 35 being the max cap but just the issue of a max cap. The absolute level cap would be 117 if we're talking maxing out every skill but I think we can all agree that's not an acceptable cap nor is any above level 50.

Blaze The Aion Ender -> RE: Level 35 Permanent level cap? (7/17/2012 3:30:23)

Its a nice, 5x multiple number, keep it here, the 5 focus build would one day become just implied, as in, you automatically have it, it would no longer be a build, just the usual.

This level is fine, keep it here.

Drianx -> RE: Level 35 Permanent level cap? (7/17/2012 3:40:10)

No, otherwise people will lose interest even faster than now, especially non variums.

And of course devs will have no reason to release stronger and stronger varium weapons, therefore we will have no reason to keep wasting money on it.

Clavier -> RE: Level 35 Permanent level cap? (7/17/2012 3:43:32)

I think 38 should be.

midnight santa -> RE: Level 35 Permanent level cap? (7/17/2012 3:46:00)

ya, or 40. 1 lvl is jus no sense...

Camoflague MerC -> RE: Level 35 Permanent level cap? (7/17/2012 5:15:21)

@Mr. Black OP
I disagree with a lot that you said, at really high levels enchantments wouldn't matter as much because base weapon stats would be so much higher, since enchantments are capped at 10 respectively. I very strongly disagree with the statement ".......would allow the level cap to be raised without causing imbalance, it would actually lead to balance". The higher the level, the wider the gap will get between varium and non-varium weaponry, it may be slow but it will happen. Not to mention so many builds would become obsolete, think of strength Bloodmages, at level 50 they could have something like 40-48 resistance and 33-40 strength and use plasma canon, fireball and bludgeon then finally if anyone is still alive supercharge to pulverize ANY other build. The only thing i agree with that you said was that the only way for the Devs to be able to keep making money and put a cap at lvl 35 would be to add some kind of membership feature, similar as you said to other AE games, but that would be their downfall if they did that, people would just leave the game until barely anyone played anymore, so the only thing the Devs can do to be able to keep financing this game would be to keep increasing the level, which would also eventually lead to the games downfall, but would allow them to profit more from what limited supply of dedicated players are left.

King FrostLich -> RE: Level 35 Permanent level cap? (7/17/2012 5:57:46)

Unfortunately, increasing the level cap by 5 levels would force Nightwraith to draw several weapons for level 34 - 39. That means alot of work and too much time but it does sound good in order to keep this game progressive and flowing but it would take about 2 months time if it does happen.

MrBones -> RE: Level 35 Permanent level cap? (7/17/2012 10:21:46)

I don't believe in locking the level cap at any number.

The game needs to keep evolving and I am confident they will find ways to keep the game an enjoyable experience as the level cap raise.

I dislike the arguments stating that this built or that built will be invincible at a specific level. Let's not forgot all built will have the same stats to play with and therefore counter balance the other builts.

AQWPlayer -> RE: Level 35 Permanent level cap? (7/17/2012 10:24:39)

MrBones, don't forget that some classes got far better skill combinations than others :/

SouL Prisoner -> RE: Level 35 Permanent level cap? (7/17/2012 10:28:14)

I would only say, Once its lvl cap 40, and b4 you reach there , you actually become a "Commander" xD (Only 1v1)

rej -> RE: Level 35 Permanent level cap? (7/17/2012 11:17:10)

Definitely not. Sporadically raising the level cap is one of the few things that keeps the community happy.

drekon -> RE: Level 35 Permanent level cap? (7/17/2012 11:36:16)

There are several obvious facets of the game that will soon prove to be limiting to the progress of level caps.

1) The method by which "balance" is sought. Nerfs & Buffs only serve to periodically shift the balance of power. It will never be a permanent fix to balance issues because as level caps rise, and more powerful equipment are released, more overpowered classes/builds will be present.

2) The method by which "chance" is calculated. Players do not have enough control over their chances, and the percentages (in most cases), are too low to be effective and reliable in battle. The RNG is an obvious necessity to determine when chances will take effect, but with such low percentages, one's opponent has a GREATER chance of bypassing one's chances.

3) The unavailability of reliable and effective buff/debuff items. Most players (mainly credit users) don't have enough effective means to counter higher level varium players. This problem will only get worse as level caps rise and more powerful varium weapons are introduced.

4) The saturation of non class-specific weapons. This was a great idea at first, but the game now has too many of these types of weapons. Each class has it's own advantage and disadvantage. Instead of saturating the game with weapons that increase the advantage of one class and does nothing to improve the disadvantage of another class, there should be more powerful class-specific weapons and non class-specific weapons should be RARE.

Personally, I don't think we should make a permanent level cap. If we did, the game will eventually lose it's excitement for top level players. However, until these major issues have been resolved, we will see a lot more instability in the near future as level caps continue to rise.

Midnightsoul -> RE: Level 35 Permanent level cap? (7/17/2012 11:43:43)

I agree with everyone who said the level cap should be increased.

1) It keeps the game running

2) Makes the majority of ED players happy

3) Money

4) You never know as levels go on, tank build become stronger because str scales slower than defenses

This quote brings up a good point

Think, if the cap was at 117. We would have all our skills Maxed. In ED, Max doesn't necessarily mean good when you consider EP costs of skills. Heck, most skills are best left at Level 7 and no higher (With the exception of Passives) so if we had all our skills Maxed, I would be paying 31 EP just for a DM and 60 EP just to Massacre. Plus, Max skills have higher requirements which means less choice for our stats. Then there's always agility. I personally don't like this and I don't think it will make the community too happy.

DunkThatOreo -> RE: Level 35 Permanent level cap? (7/17/2012 13:45:31)

Lvl 35 as cap is not fine because that means less money for AE so the level cap will rise every year by 1 or 2 levels regardless if this makes balance worse, as long as people
waste money on varium buying the next top gear the level cap will rise.

shadesofblue -> RE: Level 35 Permanent level cap? (7/17/2012 14:00:15)

I think around 40 is a good permanent level cap, but that might just be me. :P

DunkThatOreo -> RE: Level 35 Permanent level cap? (7/17/2012 14:02:14)

It doesn't matter what we think should be the permanent lvl cap, as long as artix gets his money level cap will rise.

Killer666 -> RE: Level 35 Permanent level cap? (7/17/2012 15:28:31)

Why not just make a Membership, Like most AE games. this way they still make money, and you dont have to worry about imbalances

By level 117, everyone will have so much def/res (somewhere around 150 on each) That anything less than maxed abilities would do pitifully low damages, unless you decided to place as many stats as possible in a certain area, much like today's strength BMs. [;)]

shadesofblue -> RE: Level 35 Permanent level cap? (7/17/2012 15:43:40)

^Actually, Strength would increase along with Def/Res so it would still be balanced. The only problem would be having enough players for every level range.........

nico0las -> RE: Level 35 Permanent level cap? (7/17/2012 15:48:30)

At the rate we're going, I'm guessing 40 will be the cap. It seems to be a solid number because quite frankly the gap between 33s and 34s is not that big, so the gap between 40s and 35s shouldn't be that large (I'm assuming, it's hard to tell. We have to see what gear is released). In any case, 35 would be a...depressing level cap. It's too low.

Having said this, MrBones makes a good point in saying that the level cap must go up for the game to evolve.

King Helios -> RE: Level 35 Permanent level cap? (7/17/2012 17:52:48)

Level 38 should be enough.
