Jacques' reaction to your news was predictable. Upon hearing that you encountered two Numbered Beasts, he redoubled his efforts to ensure Paxia's continued survival, though thankfully he has realized he can't defend the island on his own, and has put together a volunteer defense force from it. Some volunteers are better than others, but on the whole, things have been going surprisingly well so far... but where did those Beasts get to?
«Scene: Paxia, Jacques' meeting with volunteer defense force»
Jacques: And remember, we are all that stands between Paxia and annihilation. If the clans are to survive, I need your help to keep the island safe.
Jacques: If you see anything or anyone suspicious, I expect you to act. Got it?

Defender Leader: What indeed? We'll figure out what you'd done soon enough. People who look as suspicious as you always have something to hide.

Nautican: AHA! She admits her guilt! I told you she was no good!
«You enter the scene.»
«You»: Whoa! WHOA! Time out! What is going on here?
Karuna (simultaneously): «You»!
Leader (simultaneously): «You»!
Defender Leader: You're just in time to help us apprehend this troublemaker!
Karuna: Troublemaker?? I just got here!
Defender Leader: And yet by resisting capture you've caused nothing but trouble since your arrival.
Karuna: And why do you want to capture me??
Defender Leader: Because you're a troublemaker.
Karuna (simultaneously): ................
«You» (simultaneously): ...............
«You»: Riiiight. I think I'm going to have to side with Karuna on this one.
Karuna: Thank you, «You».
Defender Leader: You... traitor!!!
«You»: Say what now?
Defender Leader: You're siding with a suspicious woman over Paxia's defenders! We've lost too much to let foolish sentiment get in the way of results.
Defender Leader: If someone is suspicious we either kill them or bring them in for questioning.
Defender Leader: If we had been that vigilant in the first place, we could have saved so much... and I would have more than a pendant to remember my beloved by!
«You»: Look, I'm sorry that happened, but-
Defender Leader: SILENCE! If you won't step aside, we will be forced to go through you! This is your last warning! Relinquish the suspect!
«You»: Yeah, that isn't going to happen.

Defender Leader: I'm telling you, «You» has turned on us. Everything about that woman was suspicious, from the look on her face to the way she held herself.
Defender Leader: Everything about her screamed "I'm hiding something", and yet «You» immediately jumped in to stop us from questioning her.
Defender Leader: That's more than a little suspicious.
Jacques: No, you can't be right. «You» would never-
«You and Karuna enter the scene. The Defender Leader turns to face you both.»
Defender Leader: That's the suspicious woman I was telling you about!
Jacques: Is this true, «You»?
«You»: Well, the rookies were out for her blood, if that's what you're asking.
Jacques: AND YOU SIDED WITH HER INSTEAD OF PAXIA??
«You»: What??? I didn't-
Jacques: «YOU», WHY??? Why would you betray Paxia like this?
