King Helios -> Is Team (2v2) Balanced? (10/21/2012 10:25:50)

Hello all. To commemorate the new forum, I have decided to release a thread pertaining to the state of 2v2 balance.

As you can see, one of the more varying battle modes is 2v2. It is almost unbalanced: a 35 and 29 can fight a 29 and 30. There are many other negative influencs of luck.

Is this fair? Players with low HP are almost immediately destroyed. Players with low Def / Res are targeted, debuffed, and systematically killed.

Another thing that annoys everyone: quiters. They can turn a good battle into a literal massacre.

Thank you for the time.

Pinkie Pie -> RE: Is 2v2 Balanced? (10/21/2012 10:32:15)

Well assuming your partner is the level 29, I would say it would (somewhat) be balanced because almost every level 29 and 30 is using a caster build with max bunker/plasma. Which might have the capabilities of K.O-ing your partner, so it would most likely be like juggernaut.
From my point of view, I would say 49%yes it is unbalanced and 51% no it is balanced.

Renegade Reaper -> RE: Is 2v2 Balanced? (10/21/2012 10:33:39)

i agree, this is the most unbalanced mode. it most certainly is not fair, to those who want a tight battle, and to those who just want to earn credits.
team battles also take waaaay too long, IMO.

@above and you also get partners who have very bad builds and are a low level compared to the rest or the battlers in the team battle.

Scyze -> RE: Is 2v2 Balanced? (10/21/2012 10:34:01)

It sort of is. You do need to be lucky on who your partner is.

Renegade Reaper -> RE: Is 2v2 Balanced? (10/21/2012 10:36:20)

ah yes, luck, the trademark of epic duel xD

why should it depend on luck to get a decent 2v2 battle?

King Helios -> RE: Is 2v2 Balanced? (10/21/2012 10:36:24)

^^ You know something is wrong when I (1356-779) am considered a good 2v2 player. That's ~63.5%

One other thing I'll put in OP: rage-quitters. You know, the people who get blocked, then deflected, then scream "BANZAIEEEE!" and leave? I hate that!

Renegade Reaper -> RE: Is 2v2 Balanced? (10/21/2012 10:39:35)

i have an 79% win rate in team battles personally. heh, but that was back when i played team a lot, and it was the days of the tlm support builds dominating it.
6637 team wins to 1770 losses

also, have you guys noticed that the only ones on the personal team daily board are the very low levels?

Pinkie Pie -> RE: Is 2v2 Balanced? (10/21/2012 10:40:51)

^
If your considered a good 2vs2 player, Then I (1768-809) am considered a master. I forgot how to calculate win/loss %. [8|]

midnight assassin -> RE: Is 2v2 Balanced? (10/21/2012 10:41:03)

Actually no . I want to give a very good scenario
2 lvl 35 var vs a lvl 35 nonvar with a lvl 30 nonvar partner. The 2 lvl 35 is using the op class at the same time full enhanced while the 2 non-vars not having a single enhanced item.

Renegade Reaper -> RE: Is 2v2 Balanced? (10/21/2012 10:44:09)

@pinkie pie you divide your wins by your battles

EDIT: OMG a level 33 is on the team daily board!!

King Helios -> RE: Is 2v2 Balanced? (10/21/2012 10:51:53)

My current partner is a 29 with only MJOLNIR.

Lord Nub -> RE: Is 2v2 Balanced? (10/21/2012 11:09:02)

Fix the disconnect issue where players cancel the match and still end up in the match and disconnecting before battle start and stop allowing players with one weapon above a certain level to click 2v2 and we have balance.

King Helios -> RE: Is 2v2 Balanced? (10/21/2012 11:12:35)

^ Or treat those people as if they are 1+(x|x=equipment gone) levels lower than they are.

Unknown Menace -> RE: Is 2v2 Balanced? (10/21/2012 11:20:27)

While i'm not doing as much 2vs2's as i used to, the times that i do i notice alot of low levels only. Most of the time the side i get is guaranteed winner because i'm the only 35. It almost made me believe that the staff secretly made it so that its one maxed cap player every 2vs2 match. (this was before the ebilcorp war, so the massive 1vs1 npc farming can't be the reason)

So is it still possible to get a 29 on your side if you are a 35? That would be strange a difference of 6 levels, way to much.

Mother1 -> RE: Is 2v2 Balanced? (10/21/2012 12:35:44)

Two vs two right now very unbalanced. It takes forever sometimes for me to get a two vs two, and it is because of this wait that many just do one vs one. However at the same time they made this level gap because if it was smaller it would be harder to fight people to fight which would be a real pain.

DestruRaGe -> RE: Is 2v2 Balanced? (10/21/2012 15:00:45)

Its like asking if earth is flat. ;D Of course its not balanced. I suggest devs to try make the script donsider players number of stats.

Mother1 -> RE: Is 2v2 Balanced? (10/21/2012 15:17:28)

@ Destrurage

That would basically be putting varium vs varium and non varium vs non varium at the higher levels. Not to mention this would make 2 vs 2 even slower at the higher levels then it is now. It takes me 2 minutes sometimes to find someone within my level range to battle in this mode. Having to not only find people in my level range but also three other people with my range of stat points would take even longer.

Besides the only reason they did it like this is because they are trying to make it so you can get a fight quick. It is also the reason why the lower levels always dominate the LB for the 2 vs 2 where as the higher levels dominate 1 vs 1.

DestruRaGe -> RE: Is 2v2 Balanced? (10/21/2012 15:50:45)

That system would try to get as similar total amounts of stats on each team as possible. Doesnt matter if var or not, it would just match for example the player with very low amount of stats, compare to others, with
a player with most amount of stats. This way battles would be more fair. Matching players only by lvls is not enough. And it wouldnt make finding battles longer. It would just pair those 4 players that wanna
play 2vs2 at the moment in the most possible fair way. Thats what I think.

Mother1 -> RE: Is 2v2 Balanced? (10/21/2012 16:08:24)

@ Destrurage

How about if there aren't enough available players looking for battle within your stat range? It happens with level range and it can happen with stat range as well as level range together.

You know as well as I do that if you add stats including enhancements it would be Varium vs Varium and Non varium vs Non varium at the higher levels. I say this because a person who is fully enhanced will have 20+ more points then a non varium since enhancements prizes are sky high.

Plus I said it would take longer because in 2 vs 2 we all know it is the lower levels to mid low levels who own this board since they get battles faster as well as win their battles faster. It takes long enough to get a two vs two match as it is for a higher level since most are either doing jug fights or one vs one since they are faster, now you want to add another thing to make it even slower?

This if anything would make even less people play two vs two since with this extra it will make the matches even longer then before or in some cases not get a fight at all. I mean I had to wait 3 minutes one time for a two vs two match when the server was almost packed which is crazy.

However if they did make enhancements cheaper the this might work since the stat points would add up putting them within your range, and it would be more balanced since the gap wouldn't be so bad. It sucks when you have to make a non varium your punching bag when you are a varium player looking for a fun fight. Though I will admit some non variums even without enhancements do put up the good fight.

Nub Apocalypse -> RE: Is 2v2 Balanced? (10/22/2012 1:57:18)

1v1 (without npcs) is balanced.
2v2 is only very slightly unbalanced.
Juggernaut is absolutely broken.

What people don't recognise is the fact that 1v1 win %s are only very slightly higher than that of 2v2's. Our perception of 1v1 is completely distorted by the existence of npcs. We think 90% means a good player, but truth is, something like 83% without npcing shows that they are a good player.

Blaze The Aion Ender -> RE: Is 2v2 Balanced? (10/22/2012 2:11:35)

@Nub
83% was very specific O.o
I look at this game like Call of Duty: Black Ops...
Your kill/death ratio is your 1v1 win rate, but then combat training counts towards this
I think it should say your wins and losses to NPC's separately, because some win rate are garbage
And for two vs two being balanced... No.
I've been in games where it is me and a lvl 29, versus a lvl 29 and a lvl 30
That is not fair at all

Not to mention me and lvl 29 against two max level full variums

It's too much luck factor

Nub Apocalypse -> RE: Is 2v2 Balanced? (10/22/2012 2:27:18)

I said "something like 83%", so i'm not specifically saying that number, but I chose that number because 83.33...% means that your wins is 5 times your losses.
And once again, I say 2v2 is not much different to 1v1. A 35 and 29 vsing a 30 and 29 is just like in 1v1 how a lvl 30 can go against a lvl 35. People have been saying on this thread they have ~65% 2v2s, this means they win around 2 every 3 games, that is what I call balance, win some, lose some. What you would call unbalanced is Juggernaut, where even a bad player can win 4 out of 5 games. People need to realise, everyone has the same luck, it all balances out, I just cannot stress how important this point is. People never believe that statement, "Oh, that guy has a higher 2v2%, he must be luckier than I am", sorry that's not true, luck DOES balance out. Considering most of the people in this game are children anyway, try this experiment: Write 'Yes' on one side of an eraser and 'No' on the other side. Throw the eraser in sets of 50 throws each. I am telling you, In 98 out of 100 sets, you will find that at some point during the 50 throws, the amount of 'Yes' and the amount of 'No' will be equal. It's like the Gender composition of the population, the majority used to be male, now it's female. Time balances things out. And in cases of battles in EpicDuel, where battles are often short, it doesn't take long for things to balance out. If someone with 100 total battles has a 2v2% of 90%, I can guarantee you it will fall if he does another 900. Another experiment you can do is make two accounts, with the same class (hence, same amount of support). Use two computers to keep fighting each other. At MANY, many points of time, the amount of crits inflicted by one player will equal that of the other.

RageSoul -> RE: Is 2v2 Balanced? (10/22/2012 8:27:00)

Sometimes it's the partners that are the problem , not just the partnering system.

Mother1 -> RE: Is 2v2 Balanced? (10/22/2012 8:47:47)

^ especially if they have no gear other then a primary or out of date gear. Then it could also be that you are fighting two fully enhanced players and your partner isn't enhanced at all.

King Helios -> RE: Is 2v2 Balanced? (10/22/2012 15:19:23)

I'd like to suggest a new pairing system for 2v2.

Rules of 2v2 (under my system):

  • Two Variums cannot be on the same team
  • There must be an equal amount of Variums on each side
  • The team's levels must be within four

    What do you think? Ask questions.
