superjars -> New RP Boards Q&A (12/2/2012 12:04:05)

Hello everyone, Welcome to the new face of the RP boards. This change has been a long time coming, but it is finally here. Over the last couple months that I have been the Head Mod for RP, I've been looking at the things that seem to be a problem: both things that you have brought up and things that my team and I have observed. I wanted to create this post to enumerate some of the differences in these new boards versus the things you were used to in the old boards and then open it up to some questions about any specific things you are unclear on. New Features: 1. Simplified process of graduating from the RPA: The Role Playing Academy was never intended to be the free-for-all RPing extravaganza it has been. It is intended to be a place to help members learn how to RP or to simply prove that they are a competent RPer *Note: we will not be testing you on your grammar, spelling or punctuation. If any of those is an issue, we will redirect you to L&L where they work on writing.* Almost everyone (myself and my AK's Ryu and TD are excluded) have been removed from the Role Players group who was in there previously and the group was remade for this new change. The new RPA will have three threads manned by myself and my AKs, within which you will be asked to create three separate posts in order to join the Role Players group and join RPs. These should be simple and straightforward and simplify the process that allows people into RPs with minimal fuss. Our goal is to have everyone RPing together. 2. The RP Archives: Everything was moved from the former forums and into the Archives. A lot of those RPs will likely never be resurrected, but we wanted to keep them for posterity. Everything from the RPA, the RP and the ARP got put together in there. However, for whatever reason, the forums decided to eat the RPA OOC stuff we moved there, so we may have to recreate some of that. Sorry for that, but there's nothing we can do about it. But this doesn't mean that some RPs can't or won't be brought back. The Archives are currently a holding place while we rebuild the RP forums into something all of us can enjoy and share. 3. Limits on RPs and RPing and the Host system: A huge problem I've seen since I joined RP is that we get hit with waves of new RPs every couple days, some which get very little interest, some which garner great amount of interest, but die because the host disappears and some that garner interest but people are at their limits in terms of how many RPs they can be a part of. So, we are going to limit the number of RPs that exist at one time: This will be a number based on the total number of active members in RP and will be examined on a monthly basis to see if we need to increase it. The starting number will be 6 RPs, which is enough for several people to be in four and still have a variety of RPs. We will be looking at the number of RPs people are in and perhaps modifying those totals, but for now it will remain the same. RPs should be time consuming and so being in a large number of them can be detrimental to the quality of each one you are in. In the same vein, we will be implementing a Host system, where we will limit who can host RPs. This will be based somewhat on talent, but much more on time constraints and dedication to being able to run an RP. In the future, we may also introduce some new threads in the RPA in order to give some training into what goes into hosting and how we can get better at it. 4. Branching out into other genres and worlds: One thing that I have gotten permission to do is to move away from the strictly AE nature of RPing on our forums and allow some different worlds to be explored. We'll have a thread in RP Discussion to talk about what we want to allow, and I'm thinking we'll have 2 of the 6 RPs be non-AE focused, if it is something people are interested in. 5. The RP boards: The RP boards are the only place where RPs will reside. Everyone who gains access to it will be participating together. No longer will we have several levels of RPers, but everyone will be together to RP. I am excited to see how we can grow our community into something amazing. We will be starting small at first, but as we gain members and branch out, I hope that we can grow and become a flourishing community of RPers. Thanks for everyone who helped with this transition and I now open this thread up to questions that anyone may have about what I've hosted. I'll try to answer as much as I can, but there is a lot left to do to get this up and going and I have RL stuff as well. ~superjars Head Mod of the RP
