TJByrum -> RE: Your RPing History (12/8/2012 21:48:04)

@Riffus: (Strange calling you that, haha) The people I hang out with are nothing like me. I've always considered myself a person in the wrong lifestyle. They like to hunt, fish, etc. You know the type... 'rednecks' as most would call them. Big trucks, guns, deers and hogs, catfish and bass, that kind of thing. I don't associate with 'hunting' and 'fishing', although I wish I did. I've always wanted to be an outdoorsman, and I should have been... it's like it was destined for me (I live in South Carolina, that should say a lot). But my dad just didn't raise me like that... but I wish he had... you know, give me my first gun, take me hunting, show me how to fish when I was little, etc. Me and my friends typically play games and have bonfires and just hang out from time to time, nothing big, mostly cause they've move onto things I prefer not to get involved in.

But I would like to D&D RP online. I might try to find an official site or something; need to read up on the lore and all I reckon. Really, all I need is some armor, a shield, a sword, and a reason to fight for justice.

superjars -> RE: Your RPing History (12/8/2012 22:24:00)

Oh man, I started RPing in college. We played D&D 3.5 a couple times a week in people's dorm rooms and had quite a bit of fun. I had a few year hiatus from it, then found the RP forums on AE (had been playing their games for quite a while first), and then started moving my way through the different levels. I found my way onto IRC, where I started playing with the others who hang out there, and then started to create some of my own.

At the same time, I met groups of friends near where I live and we started to play Pathfinder (and some mtg). Now, between playing weekly/biweekly with friends for several hours and the worlds I'm creating on IRC, that tkes up the majority of my RPing time. I still would love to reincarnate the Weavers RP though; still think it is a fun concept and I have big plans for it.

Arthur -> RE: Your RPing History (12/8/2012 23:32:12)

My first RP was Hounds of Galere by constanthinker which I joined on September 23 last year. I thoroughly enjoyed it as I was new to RPing back then and it seemed like a pretty cool concept.

As for the RPs I've hosted across the Net in the past, here's a list:

1. Darkness is Destiny(AE)
2. Vanguard Academy(AE)
3. The Black Slade Chronicles(AE)
4. Of Dragons and Hunters(TFF)
5. Angel of Shadows(Fairy Tail)(TFF)
6. When Ends Collide(1X1)(TFF)

They have all seen exceptionally good RECEPTION other than Darkness is Destiny, my first hosted RP.

Ryu Viranesh -> RE: Your RPing History (12/9/2012 0:26:45)

Ah, nostalgia. I started RPing around 05-06. My first RP on these forums was the 2007 EC where I did ... nothing short of awful. Nonetheless, it gave me motivation to get better, and after one more mishap in 2008's EC, I decided that I would start to approach RP a bit more seriously. While still having a ton of fun, of course. It's hard to believe how much my writing style has changed since I first started out here, but the proof is in the pudding I suppose. I have a lot to thank these forums for, since I wouldn't be nearly the writer and RPer that I am now without the people I've met and the experiences that I've had here.

I still find that forum RPing is my preferred type, although I've come to love IRC RP and Table-top stuff just as much.

TormentedDragon -> RE: Your RPing History (12/9/2012 1:00:36)

Got my start in 8th grade. That would have been ... 1999? Thereabouts? I was attending an online highschool called Northstar Academy because of reasons, and there was a general discussion section of things for students to interact on, and it was full of typical internet and highschool stupidity. And then the RPing just sort of started happening. Which was also full of terribad stuff. Like million strong armies and crap like that. Stupid. Fun at the time. Wouldn't do it again.

Eukara Vox -> RE: Your RPing History (12/9/2012 1:04:25)

quote:

I have to say, I'm quite lucky to have a really open-minde circle of friend. Not all of friend RP, but I have some who enjoy playing D&D, and I have one of my friend who also RP on forums.

Most of my friends are... my age, but more serious and stuff. Most of them don't understand why I do what I do, though they are fascinated by it. They all know I related to their middle school/high school kids more than the adults around me (and are rather grateful). They are more... reality driven, homeschooling moms, people who aren't still stuck in their childhood.

I love my friends, but I cannot imagine any of them ever attempting RPing, much less doing it. But, trust me, they can see it in RL with me. I am the same person here as I am in real life.

One day, I would love to participate in one, very serious LARP session. That... would be so much fun.

Legendium -> RE: Your RPing History (12/9/2012 4:47:23)

Well, actually since D&D counts as RPing, I started in sixth grade. Our D&D team never went anywhere though, since our Dungeon Master was always sick and her sister had to be dungeon master for us. And that never ended well. I think the only thing we achieved was getting lost on some foreign parallel universe. I eventually made my character give up and drown himself, it was getting so boring just walking around in swamps. So, that wasn't really a good experience.

black knight 1234567 -> RE: Your RPing History (12/9/2012 6:30:45)

One thing I remember is Superjars as a normal member, from back then....
God that feels strange now 0.o

TJByrum -> RE: Your RPing History (12/9/2012 8:56:33)

@Superjars: D&D huh? Wow, I must really be missing out.

@Arthur: Vanguard Academy? I'm sure everyone here knows what that is. I was in it, but only momentarily, and a very long time ago when you first started it.

@Ryu: Haha, well it's good to see we all start out novices and we all get better over time. I don't necessarily consider myself a great RPer, but I know for a fact I'm a whole lot better than I was... especially looking back at The Raven Tower... I went from skiing down a mountain to freezing a couple of guards within one sentence!

@TD: That's been a while then huh? Million strong armies? Someone went godmod!

DaiTigris -> RE: Your RPing History (12/10/2012 22:22:41)

Well in general I'm just relativity new to the forms here, so everything has been a new experience for me.
I've done theater acting through out my high school years. I remember the time I had to write an entire soliloquy for a random made up character and that was fun. I've always enjoyed acting, I've never had the chance to be a major role, but I've found it to be an interesting experience I'd never ever take back for anything.

Otherwise Rping wise I'm still pretty new to this. I got really interested in Rping a few years back when I was on Deviant art going through original character art tournaments when I came across an insanely popular fan based Rp group. I loved the concept and when I saw there where no limits on how many Rper's could joining and the member count was well over 100. At the time I thought:"Great! There's going to be tons of people all wanting to Rp and I can learn from them along the way, this is going to be fun!
I worked hard on making an interesting, but down to earth character, who did get accepted. The downer was no one even tried to interact with my character. I did try to Rp with some of the other characters but I was having such a hard time trying to interact while feeling personally demotivated. I felt annoyed that everyone seemed to like the curb stomping, sunglasses wearing, traumatic hero's more than my simple friendly character. I ended up quitting, feeling like I was never going to learn anything.

About earlier this year I found out that AE had a form and that sparked my interest. I poked my nose around and got really excited when I saw the Rp forms. I was still kind of afraid from my previous experience but I got a feeling from the way the forms just work that there were going to be a lot of friendly and fun people. And I've learned quite a bit now. I'm proud to say I'm enjoying Vanguard Academy as one of the first proper Rp's I've been apart of and my experience here on the RP boards have been excellent so far.

You're not alone Dai (and welcome, by the way). I know the type of character you're thinking of... the 'over-the-top' ones that people try to make look cool and stuff. Nothing wrong with it, but I also get annoyed by them. Especially if they say one-liners in combat, such as "One down, hundreds to go!". *shudders*

My characters are usually simple and basic, with a pretty standard history. Many have chainmail, a surcoat, boots and gloves, a sword, and a shield. Nothing more, nothing less. No fancy demon armor, no fancy magic powers, just good ole steel and leather. Many of them are veterans of a past war with a lot of tactical and strategical experience, and they're normally combat specialists.

Big, bulky, skull-adorned armor is not my thing. Neither are over-the-top humongous swords, etc.

DaiTigris -> RE: Your RPing History (12/11/2012 0:18:22)

Thanks Ghost :). Normally I have a small tolerance for a few characters that are like that as long as they have some reasonable draw backs to balance them out. But otherwise that Rp had over half of the characters like that and having more coming. -shudders- It made me wonder where all the normal people in that world went.

black knight 1234567 -> RE: Your RPing History (12/11/2012 7:15:25)

One liners gave Anold De Teminator a career :P
I don't mind those characters. They add variety to things. One of my favorite character, Manipulador, was a heavily sarcastic fella, even while in very tight situations.

Not sure if that falls under what you're talking about.

TJByrum -> RE: Your RPing History (12/11/2012 9:39:36)

Duke Nukem is a prime example of the kind of the character I hate.

I can't remember much about Manipulador considering it's been a while since I read anything about him.

Guardian Defender -> RE: Your RPing History (12/12/2012 1:17:21)

This place is the first place I ever RPed at, though I was playing the AQ game itself long before then. I made my account and started here during my freshman year of high school back in '05. I introduced the game to my best friend and he later introduced the forums to me, much to my surprise. At the time, he had made an RP (can't remember the name) that I later joined. That started the RPing path for me. I didn't make my first RP until mid to late 2005 and didn't make my first SUCCESSFUL (yet unfinished) RP until the beginning of 2006 and for a long time, it was a big hit. I believe it's still there somewhere. Like many others, my skills were crap and crappier at first but over time, they were finetuned and polished to a comprehensivable form. I believe it's been 3 years since I last RPed here... So much has changed. I remember being there for The Great Wipe. It was much like our present time "world's gonna end on 12/21/2012" scare. There was a lot of panic and speculation about the future of the boards. Good times, good times...

Legendium -> RE: Your RPing History (12/12/2012 9:08:23)

Duke Nukem?
Never bothered playing his type. I like solid, down to earth chars, that make roleplaying easier for the others. I'm an altruist on the internet.

Anyway, this is getting off topic. But yes, there are often very annoying characters that try to be the best. And then there are godmodders. I've played RPs where things were really out of hand with godmods. Even here, the unofficial games section has a few godmoders. Which is why I'm glad Lord Darkblade hasn't come here yet. He's a very big godmod.

black knight 1234567 -> RE: Your RPing History (12/12/2012 11:50:01)

Lol, I can imagine him bursting in right now going ''Let's RP''

One of my first RP's was one about Darkovia, run by Blackwolf. It was quite cool.

TJByrum -> RE: Your RPing History (12/12/2012 12:09:29)

@BK: I remember when I first saw you becoming active on these boards. You could simply tell you were new. But then I noticed how much better you had gotten over the years, and I must say you are a pretty good roleplayer now BK. You're the epitome of what all new RPers should be; in other words, they should strive to become better and eventually learn over time, much like you did.

I'll admit, I was an extremely bad RPer at first, and there is no doubt in my mind that I annoyed some of the RPers I RPed with. This is just one of the many terrible posts I had made:

http://forums2.battleon.com/f/fb.asp?m=16324626

"The Raven Tower" was a popular and fun RP at the time though, but I just didn't belong there. It had some good RPers too; Cod Cod, Sorang Anghel, Freebiewitz, Exodus, Dread_Shadow_Max (Riffus Maximus), deedeedeeman.... probably missed some. If only a few of them could re-find the fire in them to RP again, haha. I'd definitely RP in a new Raven Tower.

Anyway, my character was an ice demon, and he was the 'annoying type'. Busting through the gates, freezing the guards, going to the jail cells... all in one post too I think. Plus he was wanting to consume the soul of the original antagonist of the first Raven Tower, so that way he could resurrect his long-lost lover... terrible.

black knight 1234567 -> RE: Your RPing History (12/12/2012 12:27:59)

Should we resurrect classic RP's? Raven Tower, etc.

TJByrum -> RE: Your RPing History (12/12/2012 12:34:01)

Not the Raven Tower. That was an original roleplay created by Cod Cod himself, and only he should resurrect it if he saw fit. But I doubt he still roleplays.

Also,

black knight 1234567 -> RE: Your RPing History (12/12/2012 12:46:51)

Anybody remember that guy that's name started with ''Tim''? he was a pretty big RPer around here.

TJByrum -> RE: Your RPing History (12/12/2012 13:48:33)

TimHortanz

Yeah I remember him, I think he was in Assassin's Guild. That's all I remember him by though.

black knight 1234567 -> RE: Your RPing History (12/12/2012 13:53:02)

I believe he requested a ban on himself, why? nobody knows.
Also, anybody remember good ol' Krey? when he used to AK those parts?

Hollow Knight -> RE: Your RPing History (12/12/2012 13:59:33)

I started role playing around four years ago on a Naruto site, it was pretty small, then I kept moving up to different sites when they died, I kept moving on. I also made my own they were somewhat popular. I became a Head Admin on a Fantasy Medieval rp on one of those internet groups that control a lot of rp sites which was pretty cool, eventually I became one of the admins on the group itself.

I then joined a enormous rp site(bigger than AEF so you can imagine how big it was) I stayed there until recently when I resigned from my moderator position there I haven't role played in months but in all I RP a lot. I wish that one day I can do something more interactive like a D&D session or LARP but how easily people are judged here, I doubt it.

jmepik -> RE: Your RPing History (12/16/2012 22:01:27)

Wow. 2005, 2007, D&D sessions, LARPing, man. I feel like such an ultra newb reading this. At least I can say that I'm being brought up in an experienced circle!

I began RPing literally last... September? Yea, I'm a new born baby. But I've been writing fantasy since the delicate age of 8. Back then, my writing was riddled with spelling errors and grammatical mistakes, but I've come a long way, I guess. I haven't actually written much fantasy for a few years, up until when I joined. And so far, I'm loving it. The new friends I'm making, the new discoveries, the unlimited possibilities. Also, as per some others, I haven't LARPed/played D&D mostly because I'm the solitary RPer in my circle of local friends.
