I've brought this up before, but... So the cool thing about forum roleplaying is that it does NOT use traditional table-top roleplaying games statistics, dice, percentages, etc. We use our imagination, reason, and everyday common-sense to roleplay on the forums. But. But, what if we mixed the two together? I'm not saying have all sorts of dice rolls and percentages being written in the IC... but we do stuff like that in the OOC and we convey it in the IC realistically. You know, everyone could have character sheets with 'vitality' points' and 'attack', 'dodge', etc. So combat would look something like this: OOC quote:
Torvar has a 80% chance to hit you, so I roll the die. I rolled a 50, that's within the 80% range! That means Torvar hit you! Torvar has dealt 5 damage to Ysmir! But wait! Ysmir has a 50% chance to block that attack! I rolled a 25, therefore I blocked your attack! IC quote:
Torvar readied his weapon, blood dripping from the edge of the axe's blade. Gripping it in his two hands as hard as he could, he raised it over his head and charged at Ysmir, bringing it down as hard as he could. At first Torvar expected to feel the axe cleave through skin and bone. Instead it met the hard surface of Ysmir's steel shield. A loud clanging noise sounded and echoed within the empty caverns. It's JUST like D&D, but we convey the results in a realistic fashion via the IC. EDIT: I have no idea how D&D works, and I did not intend to interpret how it worked in the above example.
