Actually, with custom skill trees, balance changes will zero in on imbalanced skills (individually) as opposed to balancing classes with each other. I had used to think intra-class synergy was a positive thing but the truth is synergy does not exist between any and all skills when it should. When we balance classes we discriminate a specific build when the concentration should have been for example towards a given skill that had a damage capacity twice as high as the next leading skill in terms of damage. So custom classes (all skills are accessible in any combination) should surely be easier on balance by balancing skills individually rather than balancing skills as a set in synergy. After all, synergies change. Skills do not. Until we change them, of course.

exactly, much easier to balance the skills individually.

to add to what he said, it would also be easier to implement new stat types and new skills into the game with this system.

adding new stat types would be near impossible without changing the current classes.
and adding new skills into the game would also be impossible without changing the current classes or making new ones.

as for skills, it allows for new types of skills.

for example, a melee skill which improves with tech/dex/support instead of the usual strength.

or a ranged skill which improves with support/str (similar to artillery/fireball)

belive me or not class can be balanced, skills cant;
skills are DIFFERENT this means that we could never balance a passive as bloodlust whit an hibrid armor, because they give different advanges and they are both restricted to a skill three (ex. try to use defence matrix whit mineral armor).
the skill three is here to balance the game.

anyway i like the how balance is going all classes are quite balanced expect from mercenary (which is up) , the only thing i really would like to see is all leaderbords to be extended to atleast 25-30 players (expeciallt daily boards), this will give more creativity and we will see more players that acutally try to win more then going for the fast game.

Exactly! It was pretty good balance wise near the end of beta... But Why the crap would they add 3 classes when they couldn't fully balance the first 3?

If i was a dev I would be kicking myself because of all the balancing they HAVE to do now. And forever reason rabble is reading this.. That doesn't mean Nerf the crap out of every class till its balanced.. Tell titan and night to actually CHANGE something instead of "nerfing" or "buffing" Everything.

the skills themselves aren't balanced, the stat system isn't balanced. so theres really no reason to believe they can achieve balance between the classes any time soon. thats why i suggest scrapping the classes and balance out the skills, since balancing classes has proved too difficult a task for them, while also making more creativity in ED through custom skill trees.

some others may say its balanced, but i dont think they are looking at it objectively.

No offense but the chances of your custom classes idea coming to be a reality is about as good as the staff undoing the original buff to Plasma bolt or Assimilation.

Well since the devs have no idea how to balance a single thing why not focus on something else for the moment? Like maybe arcades and other such features :)

i just have to say I really like your idea. About the likelihood of its implementation I'm not so sure, it would probably be a whole new phase, but even then I would support it.

On a side note I think that the amount of stat points in total should be increased. Enhancements were pretty clearly not a good thing due to the f2p versus p2p aspect, but they did however provide for much more build creativity. If the total amount of stat points was increased this creativity could still exist without the drawbacks that enhancements had. Health should also go back to 2 hp per skill point invested or should have a higher starting base.

Right now i just want they balance the caster mage, that plasma bolt with reroute and assimilation its almost imposible as a merc...
