Actually, with custom skill trees, balance changes will zero in on imbalanced skills (individually) as opposed to balancing classes with each other. I had used to think intra-class synergy was a positive thing but the truth is synergy does not exist between any and all skills when it should. When we balance classes we discriminate a specific build when the concentration should have been for example towards a given skill that had a damage capacity twice as high as the next leading skill in terms of damage. So custom classes (all skills are accessible in any combination) should surely be easier on balance by balancing skills individually rather than balancing skills as a set in synergy. After all, synergies change. Skills do not. Until we change them, of course.
