Rolek didn't die at Snjor's hand (Rolek d/q due to ilde curse). She injured him, but aimed for a place that could be healed, but disable him from continuing the fight. Depends, I guess.

Starstruck -> RE: =EC 2013= It Begins! (7/20/2013 20:22:21)

While a bit of rule clarification would be nice, I would make a logical leap here and say that it is ultimately up to the RPers in question. In Rolek's case, Eukara and Antithesis decided to allow Rolek to live, though disabling him from fighting in the process. In my case, Kainoiay withdrew of her own accord. In Legendium's case, I suppose Eyra is headed to that giant pirate ship in the sky.

jerenda -> RE: =EC 2013= It Begins! (7/20/2013 21:15:18)

Legend /wants/ to die. He's crazy. From what I've seen in past rounds, after the finalists are chosen (by means that will be made abundantly clear when that time comes) the rest of the contestants are free to do what they will. I believe most of them simply leave the arena, as there is no point to further bloodshed.

Tdub -> RE: =EC 2013= It Begins! (7/20/2013 21:25:40)

If I'm not mistaken, Eyra was entered with the specific purpose of dying in the dropoffs, as Legend knew he couldn't participate in the finals. Sometimes you don't plan on using a character again, and the easiest thing to do is kill them off. I had originally not planned on using Is'ira again, but she's kind of grown on me, and she may pop up somewhere else. But death is certainly welcome in the EC.

Legendium -> RE: =EC 2013= It Begins! (7/21/2013 2:11:26)

I just don't find it in Eyra's personality to walk away from a failiure. She is a person who always pays her debts, or dies trying. Since I have other characters in mind for next year, I kinda want her to die. Otherwise, it would only be logical that she would try again.

Also, for a tournament where lots of people are supposed usually die, there has not been nearly enough death in the ECs. I've never made a death post, but I sure as heck am going to try.

EmbraceTheDarkness -> RE: =EC 2013= It Begins! (7/21/2013 2:42:07)

So our character doesn't have to die during the drop-offs? Like we can use them again in the future?

Legendium -> RE: =EC 2013= It Begins! (7/21/2013 3:00:41)

Yes. You can live at the end if you wish.

Death happens. Any heavy blood-sport aspects are really just spin, particularly for the purposes of potential audience interaction and an incitement towards realism. Yes, the player has to be willing to take the hit, but realistically treating the character and their power suite can lead to such scenarios. I, for one, respect those who adhere to realism and come to their own conclusions on realizing the difference between inescapable versus realistic. As writers, we can go through incredible lengths to turn 'inescapable' into a pointless term that may not apply.

That said, embracing death for no real IC reason? Not a fan. So I am rather okay with very few deaths taking place over the years from purely IC interactions.

@EtD - Failure to advance is not a death sentence for any alive as of the call-time of Finals.

Legendium -> RE: =EC 2013= It Begins! (7/21/2013 3:58:59)

Hm. Well, I'll just go about this realistically then. I'll let Eyra live if that's what reality dictates. If not, death. If yes, she'll die later on before next tournament.

EmbraceTheDarkness -> RE: =EC 2013= It Begins! (7/24/2013 2:00:21)

I was wondering this for a while now, but is shape shifting aloud in the Championships?

Cause I have a very..."Odd" character planned for next year, but she has to be able to shapeshift to acheive this oddness.

xaxtoo -> RE: =EC 2013= It Begins! (7/24/2013 11:00:39)

EC will make all your dreams come true next year.

Starstruck -> RE: =EC 2013= It Begins! (7/24/2013 11:39:17)

As with anything that makes you hesitate and think "Maybe it wouldn't be a good idea to do this..." either find a way around it or contact the moderators to find their opinions.

Here's my advice: draft a backup character or a milquetoast version, devoid of anything questionable like shapeshifting or illusions. Maybe a warrior with a flaming sword. Then, when EC 2014 rolls around, contact the mods who will be running it and ask if your character is acceptable. Then show them milquetoast, or, if you feel that isn't as fun as the original, submit your backup. You are, of course, free to follow your own instincts and predilections on this matter, but I find that having multiple backup plans is the best option in nearly everything I do.

Good luck to everyone in Finals ;3 All I know is that you've been seized by little multicolored fairies and whisked off into the sunset, but I'm sure it'll all work out in the end. Unless you're insane and eat the fairies. That might be bad.

jerenda -> RE: =EC 2013= It Begins! (7/24/2013 12:32:34)

The fairies kind of shoved themselves down people's throats. Does that count as eating them?

(Btw, I would never put a character I thought was boring into the EC. That sounds like a surefire way to lose inspiration and get killed. The "have multiple characters" idea is probably your best bet, I think.)

((To answer your original question in an extremely unhelpful manner, I'm not EC staff so I don't know. However, I believe there have been shapeshifters in the EC before. It doesn't seem like an inherently overpowered skill. It just depends what you're shapeshifting into, I suppose.))

TormentedDragon -> RE: =EC 2013= It Begins! (7/24/2013 18:37:23)

Shapeshifters will be considered on a case-by-case basis, as with most things.

Jerenda is correct, though, in that you should not even consider entering a character you find to be boring or milquetoast. Such characters are not fun, and you will perform poorly.
