Behold, the Elemental Championships are upon us once again. To sign up and test yourself in the crucible of competition, submit your entry here.

Your entry will take the form of a character bio. This bio should provide, at minimum, the character's name, appearance, and combat capabilities. Extra detail is welcome, but please remember to be concise. When picking a character, be aware that the Elemental Championship has consequences for the characters you choose - what happens to them in this tournament will be considered as canonical for the character. Character death in the preliminaries will not disqualify that character from participating in the final round. However, characters who die and do not make it to the finals, or who die in the finals, are truly dead.

Secondly, you will need to pick an element - fire, ice, earth, wind, water, energy, light, or dark. Your character will be competing for the favor of the Lord of this element, so pick wisely.

Finally, reserve a space in your bio to serve as a link to your first post in the preliminary round. Once you have made your intro, edit in a link to your intro post in your approved bio. This is the only edit you may make to a bio once it has been submitted without express permission from the tournament hosts.

Submitted characters will evaluated by the tournament hosts, who will edit a note of acceptance or rejection in the bio itself, in the same vein as Step One of the RP Academy. A list of accepted and rejected characters, sorted by elemental allegiance, will be maintained in this post. Rejected characters may be fixed and resubmitted as a separate post, but not as an edit to the original post.

Once the application period is complete, the preliminaries will begin, and will last three weeks. Combatants will be assigned to the different preliminary arenas, and will participate in the free-for-all. Links to the IC and OOC threads for each arena will be maintained in this post, and the lists of combatants for each arena will be maintained in the OOCs for those arenas.

At the end of the preliminary round, eight Finalists will be selected: one for each Element. This means that in the preliminary round, you are competing against those players who have entered under the same element as you, rather than all of the other characters. The Finals will be held in the Finals Arena. Further information on the Finals will be provided once the preliminary round is complete.

Registrations are now open to any and all applicants. You do not have to have graduated from the RPA to participate. The
application period will continue until July 1st, at which point the elimination round will begin.

Rules:
All standard RP rules apply, as always. However, this tournament has additional rules, which are as follows:

1. Characters must engage in combat.
This is a combat RP event. You will actually have to fight.

2. Do not use cross-element powers.
This is the Elemental Championship. Your character is competing for the favor of one of the Elemental Lords in the preliminaries, and against the Chosen of the other seven Lords in the finals. No Lord will ever choose as their representative someone who cannot win upon the strength of their Element alone.

3. You must post regularly.
Consistent activity is paramount. Please do not enter the tournament if you are not committed to staying the course. Nothing is worse than an RPer paralyzed and unable to participate because his or her opponent has gone missing. Therefore, during the preliminaries any competitor who does not post at least once every 5 days (counted from the post time of your last post) will automatically forfeit. Your character will then be considered free for the slaughter - any other character in your arena will be allowed to kill him/her/it. If something comes up and you know you are going to miss the deadline, PM one of the tournament hosts. Exceptions can be made in these cases, but you must inform us beforehand.

4. Do not edit your posts once you have submitted them.
As with bios, you may only edit your posts with the express permission of the tournament hosts. Editing of bios and of posts without our foreknowledge creates suspicion of foul play. Double-check your post before you submit it, and live with any errors you might have once it is submitted.

5. Each RPer is allowed one and only one character.
You may not enter pairs, armies, or platoons.

6. Do not use colored text or other excessive formatting.
We require your posts to be easily readable. The default formatting of the forum is the best option for this. While you may use bold, italics, and underline as normal, do not, for example, create a post consisting entirely of bold text.


The penalty for failing to follow the rules may result in your immediate disqualification from the tournament. Failure to comply with the direction of the tournament's hosts may also result in immediate disqualification from the tournament. While discussion of a host's ruling may be allowed, we have the final say.

Your hosts for this tournament are Ryu Viranesh and TormentedDragon. We are always available via this thread or PM, and often available via IRC. We will answer questions as quickly and accurately as possible.

You should note that though this is a competition, collaboration is your best friend. Your character is in combat with other characters; you, however, are not in combat with the other players. We urge you to discuss combat and options with your fellow contestants. You are free to make collaborative posts, and to work out battle sequences. OOC threads will be provided for each arena for the express purpose of communication with your fellow contestants and with us. Additionally, if you are able, the channel #RPBoards will be available on irc.caelestia.net. We have created an IRC tutorial for RPers, that can be found here. But I'm going to Cadet Camp for 6 Weeks, on a schedule that runs from 6:00 AM to 7:30 PM, without internet, leaving me about 3 and half hours (Most times less) everyday to post, even if I had internet. In other words, no EC for me until I graduate/age out of Cadets.

So I would like to participate the only problem is that I have no experience in RP battle and with wordings but all I can say is that I can do simple maneuvers. Will if affect my qualifications? specially my survival rate in the tournament?

It shouldn't seeing as you can always adapt in the battle-field but having some experience in combat variation is always an added bonus. You can always go through the Archives Section and check out a few RP IC Threads to see how you can be an effective combatant.

Or the AKs can help hook you up with the EC Threads from last years.

But don't worry, it's no problem at all.^^

Approved - Welcome aboard! Just have one note for you: the creation of autonomous constructs, such as a creature of fire that was able to act without direction from Phoebus, is not allowed.

Gonna stick my head out here first. Combining Extremis from Iron Man 3 and Firebending for the first time, I present to you: Phoebus!

First Post: Here.

Name: Phoebus
Gender: Male
Age Range: Mid-30s
Race: Alchemically-Altered Human.
Appearance: A far cry from the crippled weakling he was before, Phoebus can now walk on both legs with two functioning arms. After five years of wandering and testing his limits, Phoebus has become a well-muscled, handsome man with few blemishes on his tanned body. He stands at about six feet high with black hair and golden eyes. The only things he wears now are a golden chestplate emblazoned with solar and draconic imagery and magically enhanced pants that can resist the extreme heat that his magical powers can create.
Belongings: Phoebus' only belongings are his pants, his armor, and his backpack which carries all of his necessities such as food or money.

Personality: Phoebus is a strange mix between aggressive and intelligent. He possesses an inquisitive nature that allowed him to create the potion that made him who he is today, and he still possesses a knack for intelligence and cunning that most would not expect from him at first glance. However, the potion's power seems to have had some adverse effects on Phoebus' personality, causing him to develop a strong sense of pride in his new self and his powers, as well as an aggression that puts him into more fights than the man he was before he transformed would have been comfortable with. Phoebus is aware of the changes to his psyche, but overall doesn't seem to care very much about it or the opinions of others towards his new boasting, aggressive persona.
History: Phoebus was born sickly, eventually unable to walk on one leg and having his hand withered. However, Phoebus had an inquisitive and sharp mind, which turned him into a capable alchemist. When he heard of a potion that could make him better by "merging the essence of fire into his body" when he was 20, Phoebus spent years searching for a way to concoct this so-called Anorian Potion. After little more than a decade of research and labor, the crippled alchemist believed he had finally done. Waiting for high noon on the summer solstice, Phoebus went out alone and drank his warm creation. When he had imbibed the entire thing, Phoebus was suddenly wracked with searing pain. Falling to the ground, his body struggled to survive as the potion coursed through his veins. After nearly twenty hours of suffering, Phoebus rose again by the sunlight. He was a new man, now able to use his right hand and walk on his left leg. He felt stronger and invulnerable. This theory was eventually proven when he killed a bear minutes later in single combat with his bare hands, when the wounds inflicted by the bear healed in under a minute. Phoebus discovered that despite his previous inability to cast magic, he could now cast fire spells with a thought. Burning a tree with a fireball summoned from his hands, Phoebus set out to test the limits of his power and challenge the strongest foes who would face him. Eventually he took up blacksmithing for a time, creating a chestplate that would protect his essential organs from damage and withstand the temperatures his power could create. He has been traveling for five years by now, testing his limits and conquering foes. Now he is here at the Elemental Championships to gain favor with the Lord of Fire, to see if he can either gain more power or spread it to others.

Skills and abilities: Phoebus' powers derive from the Anorian Potion he created and drank. It binds him to the elemental power of fire, allowing him to heal from injuries and cast fire magic. The energy of the potion's effects is sustained by the sun, as the sun is the most powerful and ancient fire on Lore.
Altered Physiology: The Anorian Potion enhances its user's body. Phoebus' body is now stronger, faster, more agile, and more durable than most man can hope to become without magic. The Anorian Potion allows Phoebus to heal from almost any injury, with most wounds healing in under a minute. Even a fully severed limb would regrow in several minutes. This healing process releases energy that makes the wounded area searing hot to the touch, discouraging anyone from attacking it while he is healing. The Anorian Potion also purges disease and poisons from his body, and makes Phoebus all but immune to Fire attacks and heat in general. He can control the heat exuded from his skin, allowing him to heat it to extremely high temperatures that can melt and slice through metal. Phoebus has thermal vision, allowing him to see the heat signatures of other beings. He also can fire beams of heat energy from his eyes, though this causes discomfort and requires a few seconds for him to recover from firing and regain his regular sight.
Fire Magic: Phoebus is now linked with element of fire, allowing him to cast fire magic with relative ease. Phoebus can discharge fireballs and create fire constructs for offensive, defensive, supplementary, and even navigational purposes.
Martial Arts: Phoebus has spent years training in hand-to-hand combat with experience, and has become a skilled fighter and wrestler as a result of this training.
Alchemy: Phoebus remains a skilled alchemist who is able to make various potions with ease.

Weaknesses: Phoebus' healing process and fire magic can be dulled by Ice and Water magic. Natural water and ice poses no harm to him, though. Darkness magic is especially dangerous since it can cut off his connection to the sun and drain his power when properly applied, stripping him of his powers. Natural darkness and nighttime are no threat to him, though, as he usually stays out in the sun long enough to have reserves to last through the night. Phoebus also has a harder time healing from injuries to his torso. For example, while chopping off his arms may take several minutes for them to grow back, ripping out his intestines could take at least one hour to heal, if not more. Severe damage to his head is also a problem, though only absolute crushing, decapitation, or blowing a hole through it could kill him. Also, for all his power, Phoebus is still a human, albeit magically enhanced. So he still feels pain and discomfort, especially when healing from a major wound or using his heat vision.

I'll test my hand in this. Expect a bio... whenever I get an idea up. The White Knight is echoing to me, but I don't know that I want to use him...

Also, I never use magic in RP's, so I'll need to see other bios first to get an idea.

This character meets all EC standards and in a normal case I would approve it, however, since you've stated that you will be absent for most of the duration of the tournament, I can't in all good conscience actually allow this character in. I hope that you'll understand and that we'll see you back next year, since I'd very much like to see you compete, with this character or another one.

Name: Eyra Waters
Element: Water
Age Range: 26
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Appearance: Eyra is a woman grown, hardened by the waves and storms of the sea. Her face seems to be chiseled like stone, with grey eyes that seem to swirl like a brewing storm. Her mouth is usually a hard set line. Her hair is shoulder-length, mousy brown and usually kept up in a pony-tail to keep her hair out of her face during a gale. She is neither tall nor short. She has three scars on either side of her neck, the remainder of an old gift.

When clothing comes into play, she never strives for fashion, but for practicality. Grey wool, seal skin cloaks, hardened leather. She wears no metal save the iron pauldrons on her shoulders, for it is dangerous to wear anything too heavy to swim in on a boat. She dons her whale bone helmet only when she goes into battle. It is a pretty thing, in its own weathered way. It’s a barbute style helm, only along the open sides are the tusks of walruses.

Weaponry: Eyra carries few weapons with her at all times, so as not to slow her down. All of their sheaths and holsters are organized in the right directions so as not to hinder her swimming speed.

Her sword, Eel, is her primary weapon, a thin blade meant for stabbing rather than hacking. The hilt is made of whalebone, with a pommel of steel weighted to balance the blade perfectly in her hand. The hilt stone depicts a sea dragon. The crossguard is made of steel. The blade itself is steel as well, but is notched and scratched from lots of use.

She also has a thick iron dagger that is used as a means of defense most of the time. The handle is driftwood covered in seal hide with an iron crossguard and pommel. The thickness of the dagger makes for a very good way to block an incoming sword, and it can be used to slit a throat if she gets her opponent into the right position to do so.

Her final weapon is her throwing harpoon. What with its wooden haft and iron head, it is a simple weapon, but effective. She only ever uses this if she can hit her opponent with it and then retrieve it. Even if she loses it though, she can easily replace it.

Personality: An unforgiving commander, yet nice enough as a person. If you are a member of her crew, prepare for backbreaking rowing with few hours of sleep. But if you get to know her as a person as opposed to a leader, she will be kind. She will be honest though, and at times it can seem like an insult, but is always meant to help. She always keeps her promises, and always pays her debts, whatever they may be. She is merciless with her enemies, often taunting them into spending all their energy.

History:
Eyra Waters was the bastard (base-born if you prefer) daughter of a rich sea merchant. That was how she earned her last name “Waters,” for she had no name of her own. Her father liked her well enough, but the same could not be said for her father’s wife and true-born daughter. She received nothing but scornful looks from her half-mother, and her half-sister had always hated her, for the two of them were simply too different to get along. Where Eyra was interested in the sea, swordplay and tales of monsters, her half-sister was oh so lady-like, caring for naught but silks, fancy food and gossip. As such, Eyra stayed above deck or in the cargo rooms of her father’s ship so as to avoid the two of them, and managed to avoid conflict. From time spent on deck, she learned a lot about the sailor’s trade, and learned a bit about sword fighting from some of the different sailors. She often explored and slept below deck, among the crates of spices and tapestries, leaving her with good understanding of the inside of most ships. She also played games of tag with the cabin boys in the cargo rooms, and eventually became better than any of them at running, jumping over crates and avoiding sight. By four and ten years of age, she would’ve performed wonderfully as a first mate.

But alas, it was not to be so. For a while at least. Half a year away from her fifteenth birthday, pirates attacked her father’s vessel, and sunk it. They killed Eyra’s father and all of his men who resisted, and planned to sell the women as slaves in a pirate bay. Eyra’s half-sister died exhausted by rowing, and her half-mother not long after. She was left alone on the world. Soon after, she tried to avenge her half family’s death by killing the pirate captain with a stolen sword, even if her father was the only one who had ever been kind to her. She failed to, and was made to walk the plank with bags of stone attached to her feet. And so she sunk to the bottom of the ocean, twenty thousand leagues under the sea.

But she didn’t die. A servant of the elemental Lord of Water saved her life by giving her gills. He told her that if she killed a certain group of whalers, she would be freed from the ocean which was her watery prison. And so she did. For five years she sought those whalers out, until she finally found them, and throttled them all. She was freed from her gills, left only with scars, and armed with the sword and helm she stole from the whaler’s captain and his ship. She became the captain of the whaler’s ship, found a crew, and took vengeance on the pirate who killed her father.

Now she finds herself on the mainland, and headed to the arena to champion the Lord of Water, whose servant saved her life. In her mind, she is still indebted to that servant who saved her, for she believes that when someone saves a person's life, that person must put their life on the line to pay off the debt. And that's why she is here, at the tournament.

Talents, Magic and Fighting Tactics:

Eyra has many talents of note, such as her skill with the sword, her water magic and her skills as a seafarer.

Swordplay: Eyra uses a self-made style of sword fighting. Her fighting consists mainly of poking the enemy full of holes to bleed them to death, while dodging is her main defense. If a particularly heavy hit heads her way, she will most likely parry it with her dagger, while moving out of the way. When fighting magic users, she will try to get in close as quick as possible to riddle them with holes and end them quickly. Same method is used for bowmen. She also uses her gender to help her in a fight with men. Arrogant men will often try to kill her quickly, so as not to have their ego damaged. She uses this as a weapon to exhaust them while taunting them to enrage them more.

Seaworthy: Eyra was born and raised on ships, and has never stood on land more often than she wanted. Where most men would be off-balance on a ship, she moves perfectly on one, never missing a beat. Additionally, she knows exactly how ships work, and how to use this knowledge in a fight on a deck.

Watery Agility: Eyra is very agile, and during a fight she can dodge away from the enemy. Some who've seen her fight say that she seems to flow around her opponents like water.

Water Magic: Eyra knows a few spells of water magic, from her time under the sea. A short list is here:

Bleed: Due to the amount of water in blood, she has learned to have a bit of control over it. When she wounds an enemy, she can make their blood rush faster to the wound, making them lose extra blood.
Drown: Eyra can shoot a bit of water from her hands, which is useless unless used to drown someone in three inches of water. If Eyra can grapple her opponent into a position with their jaw open, she can drown them. With barely any water at all.
Become Water: With a great deal of effort, Eyra can liquidate a part of her body, so that most magic, swords and arrows pass through her. It takes a huge amount of effort if she is out of water. When completely submerged, she can completely turn into water and breath water as well with hardly much effort. Water is without a doubt her home ground. This does, however, have extreme drawbacks as well. When faced with electricity, this only shocks her more. When completely liquid, she will cease to exist if electrocuted. Also, above land, all areas that become water will be fully healed once restored to their firm state.

Weaknesses:

-Lack of defensive magic: She has no magical defenses other than her become water spell, which is highly vulnerable to electricity. Most spells can be dodged, but some can't, and those are her weaknesses.
-Electricity: In general, electricity does more damage to her than normal, even without being liquid.
-Ice: Ice spells will slow her down for a bit and make her slightly clumsier. In general, electricity will kill her outright in terms of magic, but ice will slow her down enough to be kill-able with a blade.
-Lack of Armor: Armor would only slow her down more, so any attacks that do reach through her dodges and parries harm her. A lot. Especially hammers. She also has no healing spells except her become water spell, which means once she is wounded, she often stays wounded.

EDIT: Oh, I so need to check my calender more often. I have only one week in which to RP as Eyra until I go to French camp. I'll have to make sure she dies, if accepted. Anyone want to kill her?

Minor ridiculosities abound here, such as 6,436 "human years" being 34 for draconic beings, but mostly, he breaks the godmod barrier rather quickly. Your list of abilities places him in the area of "boring invincible (anti) hero." That will get you disqualified quicker than a sneeze.

If you insist on being a semi-immortal half-dragon, you can, but A) don't worry about specifics of how old he is, and B) make sure he's killable without a specific kryptonite.

He has flowing hair turned white showing his wisdom and intellect into a ponytail .He is tall for any human being 7 feet tall ! He wears a ChestPlate which at will turns light as a feather and turns into a bulky chest plate ready for defence .He wears leather Pants and Barrat hide boots and Coat which gives protects him from the harsh weather of his birthplace.He wears a hood most of the time but when arrives into battle he takes it off.Is supposed to have been Scarred by the Triskylos for standing up to it to retrieve something dear to his heart.He wears the Dragon Amulet of a Fallen DragonLord as it was that dragonlord's last wish.

Weaponry:The veteran warrior who has traveled across the land has acquired many weapons but chooses to carry a few light and a few heavy weapons.He carries a shield by the name of Shazukri a shield which has beaten a hurricane to a standstill. A dual katanas by the name ten thousand blades of fury,a weapon so light and sharp it can cut down and burn 20 forests in a matter of seconds.A Legendary blade supposed to be lost through time-the Feyr's blade-A blade which is supposed to fight on its own and mimics its master's style.An axe called Pexalzas which supposed to bring down a mountain.The bow of Cytheraculus, a bow which shoots out dark bolts of energy and when struck by one,will haunt the person and make him/her insane.

Personality:A very silent type and he moves in the shadows unnoticed because he learnt the art of the ninja from the legendary Soke of the Koga clan.Was a team leader of an elite guild of warriors so a team member of a person but prefers to fight alone after the death or disappearance of his team.He is kind to innocent people but utterly ruthless to the unjust.Secretly ashamed of his heritage of pure darkness but proud of his draconic heritage.He has killed many honorable men and women in one on one combat .Doesn't wait to defeat a person in fair combat if the competitor is a villain of some sort so he can finish their life fast .

History:Born when thunder was rolling in the dark sky of the mountains when the prophet of the mountain village said this little boy was destined to fight for our elemental lord which would be the battle Lore would have to face sometime or the other .The young warrior went to train vigorously to achieve Draconian peak of excellence in not only military prowess but also in intellectual knowledge.He sailed the seas and oceans of lore,climbed the highest mountains and went into the deepest caverns in search of knowledge and power with a band of friends.He was young and proud of his heritage and vowed that he would fulfill his destiny.Years went by and he lost every friend and every connection to the outside world after the civil war of the residence of darkness aligned people.He felt ashamed that even the creatures of the same element were not united and he felt that they were evil and decided to cast aside any relationship with them.He did get the blessings of a few great darkness spirits which increased his already peak performance to such a high level that he couldn't be challenged.He then saw people stronger than him and so he developed the feeling of humility,courage and hope.The very same prophet which spouted out the prophecy had dies after saying this,"He is destined for greatness but his future is shady.." but he let out an almighty cry before finishing what he said and he died.He knew the day would come where he had to fight for his elemental lord and it is a great privilege so he went back to training and he still is.He is waiting for the day that all darkness aligned creatures are not evil.

Abilities:Has been granted the gift of Strength and Agility by
the Great Elemental Spirit Rozgare who has a particular affection towards Cyrax because he saved him by taking the brunt of an attack on a battlefield when the a great war had been taking place.He knows the unarmed combat style of shoryin-ryu-which is the ancient darkness claw and fist style.Also learnt the Way of the lightning where he can punch and kick simultaneously very fast and accurate but no compromise on power. Legendary Blademasters have though our warrior in the various sword styles and that of the raven wing.Darkness is a vital ally for our warrior and he has learnt an ancient art where the darkness will heal him.The Battlefield also instills power 10x every time he steps onto a battlefield.a legendary power is unlocked within him which will come out during desperate needs is called the 'will of the gods' where his hope and courage boosts his speed and strength over 9000 times.He can blend in the darkness making him invulnerable to attacks if he can concentrate and he can do a power up skill called kio-ken(Sorry couldn't get a name)which increases his power but reduces his endurance.His weaponry is a mighty arsenal which is an advantage by itself.Can absorb Darkness attacks to heal him.Can summon Rozgare to do a unbelievable damage and can summon a darkness dragon to attack multiple enemies.

Weaknesses:
>Is basically vulnerable to light attacks
>Doesn't have complete control over the Feyr's Blade.
>Emotional weakness occurs if a something which remindes him of a friends will destabilize him.

The time has come again... and so, with many misgivings, I present... Gabriel!!

Name: Gabriel Diaz

Age: Almost 20

Race: Angelborn (Part human, part weird mutant thing, not actually born to angels – see past.)

Gender: Female

Appearance: Gabriel inherited her long, lanky form from her father, but it recently fleshed out into curves, making her less “skinny as a beanpole” and more “willowy and graceful.” (She’s always been rather graceful, but for some reason people pay more attention to it now.) Her hair is a shoulder-length medium brown that has a permanent curve in it from her ponytail but is otherwise straight.

Her eyes are a dark green that look brown in some lighting, and her skin is darkly tanned. When she smiles – really smiles, not just flashes a fanged grin at her opponents – she could be called lovely, but this is rare. More often than not she appears too uncontrollable and severe to be called anything but dangerous. (Or willowy, although paying attention to her curves and not her weaponry is a death sentence.) It should also be noted that her blood is perfectly clear.

Belongings: Gabriel wears armor made of dark brown leather with metal strips worked in, providing greater protection than simple leather armor with the same amount of flexibility. Most notably, a line of segmented metal protects her spine and the base of her neck from blows. The armor covers her from her wrists to her neck and down to her ankles, molding to her body like a second skin. She wears fingerless gloves with a metal plate over the back of her hands and small metal spikes topping her knuckles. Her shoes are flexible and form-fitting, with small metal spikes attached to the ball and heel of her feet.

A circular wooden shield floats just behind her back, held there by enchantments so she doesn’t have to bother with straps. Its surface is marked with scratches and indents, but she’s polished it up for the tournament. On her forearms are two metal contraptions, built as small as possible to not interfere with her acrobatics. When she flicks her wrist, a six-inch spike flies out. Each arm is equipped with three spikes. She also keeps about twenty daggers around her person, about half of which are easily visible and all of which are easy to reach.

Personality: She used to have a formidable temper, but in past two years she has been in training, and she now has a much greater control over her temper than she did in past years. She has a strong sense of focus in combat-oriented situations, but is uncomfortable in purely social ones. Despite her lack of formal education, she is incredibly intelligent, and she has a fairly good intuition about who to trust and who not to.

Her pet peeve is people calling her Gabrielle or Gabriella, although Gabi is an acceptable nickname for her friends. She is not ashamed of the fact that she has a masculine name, but she wishes people would stop compensating for it.

Gravity: Basically, Gabriel is a direction-specific telekene who makes things fly towards her. To use technical terms, she creates localized gravitational anomalies. Specifically, she focuses on an object’s center of gravity and reorients it towards her. This results in the object effectively free-falling sideways (relative to everyone whose center of gravity is still oriented normally). Because these things are free-falling, they accelerate quickly, at the speed of 9.8 meters per second squared, as they fly directly towards her.

Her power operates most like an On/Off switch. If she starts pulling on something and moves, the object (or person) will track her center of gravity. If she stops pulling, the object will continue on its last trajectory, keeping its momentum even as the normal gravity of the earth reasserts itself. Objects that already have a significant amount of momentum retain it, thus usually causing them to move in a curved fashion instead of immediately changing direction.

The absolute most she can lift at this stage is one ton. She has a more difficult time pulling things that are attached to something, like a wall or something nailed to the floor – she must overcome this resistance before she can release it from gravity. Gabriel only pulls whole objects, not parts of objects – for example, she can take hold of a person, but not a person’s arm. Her power isn’t very detailed at this point either… while it’s theoretically possible for her to only take hold of a person’s shirt, she’s not capable of doing that yet. She must know where something is in relation to her to be able to grasp it.

Gabriel has expanded this ability to become an area of effect power. She marks an area in her mind and uses her power to reach out and latch onto all the objects in the area. She can use any shape, but it must have defined edges including a top and bottom, and it cannot be wider than she is with her arms stretched out or taller than her. The area can, however, include any number of objects. She tends to prefer the cylinder.

This ability takes two full seconds – one to form the shape and latch on to the objects, and another to begin pulling on the objects. From that point it works just like her normal ability, although if she is pulling more than ten individual objects it takes significantly more concentration to maintain, and she cannot drop individual objects. If an object’s center of gravity is mostly within the circle, but not all of it is in, it will probably get pulled along as well.

Her latest ability is still in development, but she is growing too impatient to wait another year. Gabriel recently discovered how to alter her personal gravity. (I know, you would think this ability would be the first thing she learned, but her powers do not follow logic!) She can increase or decrease her weight (the amount the Earth pulls on her) at will. It’s easier to go to “even” numbers (0, normal, 2*normal), but safer to go to “uneven” numbers and maintain control.

She’s fairly good at manipulating her own gravity – it’s extending the power to other people & objects that gets a little tricky. She hasn’t quite mastered the trick of wrapping up moving things, but she can do unmoving objects within her line of site. She also needs to work on practical applications of this ability… so far she has mostly used it to jump ridiculously high.

As usual, she can only use one of her powers at a time, although objects she has manipulated retain any acceleration they may have gained when she releases them. She’s trying to get objects to orbit around her, but she can’t figure it out.

Other Abilities: As mentioned, Gabriel is very intelligent. She more or less invented calculus on her own, since Lore doesn’t have higher levels of math and she needed to be able to calculate when things were likely to hit her.

Because her hobby is making heavy objects fly at her head when she loses her temper, Gabriel has developed an excellent ability to dodge. She prefers to turn the world around her, not crash.

She has a strong throwing arm and a keen eye, and the rage of battle only sharpens her skills and her mind. Her body is a weapon in and of itself, as she further developed her already strong hand-to-hand combat skills over the past two years.

Weaknesses: She makes things fly. Directly at her. At speeds of 9.8 meters per second squared. Which is really fast – exponentially fast. If she doesn’t release and get out of the way in time, she will get hit and it will hurt a lot. She lacks formal education, has difficulty reading, and has a reckless disregard for her personal safety. Her powers only work on solids, not liquids or insubstantial, and she can only activate one power at a time. She’s agile, not strong, and doesn’t like to get hit.

Past: In the two years since the 2011 Elemental Championships, Gabriel has been training at a monastery where she learned mastery not only of her skills, but of her mind. Through intense study, she was able to break past the mental block that only let her pull on one object at a time, allowing her to create the “area of effect” attack. She sparred with her fellow students, developing her strengths as a warrior, and learned to master her fearsome temper.

Battle was never a thing she loved – seeing the way it is destroying her people turned her further from it – but the last EC changed her. She has a long journey ahead of her to develop all of her skills, but the monks can only teach her how to control herself. Lore lacks the technology and the schools to teach her what she wants. On such an excuse, trying to deny the adrenaline that burns within her, she took her leave of the monastery and traveled to Bren.

She needs many things – knowledge, time, and not least a way to stop her people from destroying themselves in civil war – but she has decided, once again, to test her skills in this, the greatest of all tournaments.

Also, her birthday is in the fall. Someone wish her happy birthday.

All right - I'm in a position where I can almost approve this character, but there's one detail that's preventing me from doing so. The references to alcohol, particularly him "drinking" and being a "drunk" need to go. They violate forum policy and are not okay.

Race: Unusual Undead
Gender: Male
Class: Special Brawler. Has stretching and flexible limbs under his bone-plates. Without them on his arms and legs, he can't effectively harm anyone. Can detatch the plates and re-attatch them to an opponent to take control of them.

"You are under my command! Now, minion, go an- Crap! He's already dead...."

Skills and Abilities:
Natural Armour- Has several bone-like plates over his body, each of which is as strong as steel. Mainly protects his arms, legs, and head.
Rubbery Muscle- Skull Knight's body benieth the plates is made of a verry flexible rubber-like muscles, allowing him to extend his limbs and giving him more dextarity when he has fewer bone-plates are attatched and restricting his movement.
Enchanted Posession- Can detatch his bone plates and move them independently with his mind. Once attatched to an enemy, he can continue moving the plate and thusly control that part of thier body.
Minor Mage- Knows some basic fire magic.
Born For Destruction- Was created larger and stronger then a normal person so he could be a more usefull weapon.

Voice: Generally talks without thinking and acts like a fool. Can be more dangerous and unpredictable then most people give him credit for. Often bust up laughing for no real reason.
Appearance: Around 8 ft tall and made of a bright red muscle-like material covered in thick bone-like plates, mainly over his arms, legs, and head with smaller plates over his cheast, spine, and shoulders. The head-plate has backwards-facing horns for some reason. Oddly, for an undead, he has dark eyes with green pupils and an odd-looking pointed tounge. Wears black pants.
Personality: Skull Knight is an odd sort of fool. He almost needs to destroy things and indescriminately kills at random for the fun of it. Often makes lame jokes or references and verry rarely has to get serious. Acts on impulse and if he thinks of doing or saying something, you'd bet he'll quickly say or do it as soon as he can. Works best when there are few distractions between himself and his goal, but when normally sent out on a task will often fail.... Or end up on a rampage.
Likes: Easygoing attitudes, blood, pain, and sombreros for an unknown reason.
Dislikes: People who are overly serious, people restricting what he can and can't do, anyone who is freaked out by or judgemental twords undead, and anyone who doubts his skills.

History: Skull Knight was created as a weapon of war and instantly deemed a failure due to his lack of focus and obvious disregard for rules. He quickly turned on the Necromancer who made him, and was left without a job. After a long and verry unsuccessfull career as an Assassin for hire, The Skull Knight was forced out on the streets, often burning cities to the ground for the heck of burning something. He was eventually forced to live in the woods where he quickly found he was poorly suited for hunting. As he was shifting through the charred ashes of the forest he burned down out of rage, he encountered a soldier from the Anarchist army and quickly killed him. Twelve men later, and The Skull Knight found himself forced into thier prison where he quickly tried to escape and was re-captured by higher-up soldiers who took him to Alex Ormis who, seeing potential in the Undead death-machine, quickly put him in the army. He was a failure, a pyromaniac, and a clear psychopath... perfect Anarchy material!

"I burned down another town, didn't I? OK, new plan. We leave quietly and deny everything and blame it on Johnny over there."

Strengths: Increadible power, dexterity, and an odd fighting style.
Weaknesses: Multiple opponents, overconfidence, and a general disregard for strategy.

Back for the EC, once again. Hello all. Allow me to introduce Kovvi:

Name: Kovvi ‘The Winter Bear’

Element: Ice

Appearance:

Kovvi is a large, muscle-bound man from the far north. His skin is pale, where it can be seen beneath his scars and hair. The right side of his face is horribly scarred from a disagreement with a hungry bear that cost Kovvi his ear and good looks. The bear paid a higher price and its remains are now fashioned into an extravagant belt Kovvi wears around his waist. The belt is one of only a few items of clothing Kovvi actually wears, apart from a pair a boots and various belts securing Kovvi’s impressive collection of weapons to his person. His head is shaved but for a strip that runs through the centre, from his forehead to his neck, but he has a full beard that is kept short, except for two braids that droop down a few inches from his chin. His steel grey eyes are exceptionally expressive; ranging from warm delight and laughter, to cold anger and cruelty.

Kovvi’s appearance can more concisely be described as; large and scary.

Abilities:

First and foremost, Kovvi is a fighter. Most problems can be solved with the liberal use of sharp or heavy pieces of metal he has found. Should this approach prove ineffective though, he has some tricks up his sleeve.

Steal heat: This is a survival technique Kovvi uses to survive in the harsh northern cold, where he robs the body heat of a creature he is in contact with. Prolonged exposure can be as fatal, but even brief contact is tiring and painful. An extension of this power is that he can, with some concentration, steal heat from his surrounding too. This has the effect of dropping the temperature around him significantly over time if he wishes so and with enough time and effort it can result in a freezing mist.

A Touch of Frost: With a few moments to concentrate Kovvi can spread ice over anything he is touching and have it spread a short distance (the longer he stays touching the further it spreads). This is most commonly used to make the floor icy.

Sculpt: Kovvi’s most impressive looking skill. If the surrounding temperature is cool enough he can create items made of ice. This can be done quickly for very basic things, like a small, basic shield, or much longer for more complicated creations, such as life sized statues.

Equipment:

Kovvi takes pride in his many weapons, each of which he gives a name. Although he has many types of weapons hidden about his body, his favourites are as follows.

Freya: His massive sword, with a sharp edge and great weight that can either pierce or crush most pieces of armour. Freya is Kovvi’s favourite, although he would never say so alound.

Katherine: His battle-axe, heavier even than his sword. Kovvi has many found memories of chopping foes in half with Katherine.

Ingrid: Ingrid is what Kovvi calls a knife. To most it would be a short sword, but Kovvi is insistent that Ingrid is too petite to be anything put a knife.

This needs some clarification. His abilities increase at night - how they increase, however, is not specified. What exactly is a "massive increase" in battle capabilites from Nightfighter. Finally, is this tied to actual time of day, or to ambient light? For example, Cellar is a subterranean arena - the sun's light does not reach down there. Does this qualify for "night" or not?

Secondly, Expert Strategist is confusing. It's more properly called Expert Tactician, but that's beside the point. The main question is why it becomes more difficult when he has less to think about, in terms of opponents, attack vectors, positioning and etc. Logically it would go the other way - the more chaotic the battlefield, the more difficult it is.

Please clarify and repost.


Name: Aethian Fatewind

Age: 37 in human years.

Gender: Male

Race: Nightfae(Arae'fae), The Arae folk were once humans before an Arae sorceress cursed a select few of them in order to teach the rest of them a lesson. The humans, in their anger shunned out the cursed ones when they should have treated them. Ironically enough, it was the Arae sorceress that took them in and looked after them like her own children and so it was these ones who grew up to be the first of the Arae'fae or the Nightfae. They were named after the night mainly because they are Spellcasters of Darkness and their powers are strongest by night. Their appearances however differ less from humans, humans as they were once. Their crimson hair and pitch black eyes are what set them apart from the rest of the human populace.

Element: Darkness

Appearance: Before I begin describing Aethian, let me tell you that he was one of the Sorceress' four personal guards each of whom was different in appearance than the rest of the Arae folk. Additionally, each of the four was granted one unique magical gift the importance of which shall be brought to the fore as I now begin.

Aethian Fatewind has a slightly tanned complexion on account of staying out in the scorching sun for a long time. He has a longish, slightly angular face with visible jawlines and a high set forehead. On his forehead is the black tattoo of a crescent moon with a blade piercing through it. He has snow white hair that are of medium length, falling slightly short of his vest collar. He keeps his hair parted at the middle and falling over his forehead. His lips are thin and a beautiful pink. However, setting apart all other features on his face, his eyes are his most prominent feature for they are covered. Aethian wears a crimson blindfold over his eyes that he ties at the back of his head letting the excess cloth fall all the way down to his feet in two parts. On this crimson blindfold is a black tattoo of a circle with two blades crossing each other in the center of it. This is Aethian's gift, unique only to him. He is blind, but all-seeing.

He is tall, standing at a height of 6'00". Being of a lean build, he can naturally gather a lot of speed in little time, this aspect of him further supported by his long legs.

His apparel consists of a white cloth vest with a high neck and full sleeves. On top of this vest, he wears a long midnight colored coat that he keeps buttoned at the front. At the back, it falls all the way down to the back of his knees. Furthermore, the coat is sleeveless allowing for the full sleeves of his white vest to be seen. At the sleeves, he wears gauntlets of black titanium extending all the way to his forearms. For lower apparel, he wears tight brown leather trousers over which he wears midnight colored baggy pants. Lastly, he wears a single black glove on his right hand and black high boots with steel soles on his feet.

Weaponry:


  • Jaegarfrei: Jaegarfrei is the name of Aethian's right-handed scimitar. It has the length similar to that of a shortsword with a curve in the blade. The blade changes color depending on the wielder's mood, shifting from blue when calm and in-control to orange when agitated and finally to a glaring crimson when aroused and angry. When in its sheath, it attains a normal steel silver color.

  • Arverfrei: Arverfrei is the name of Aethian's left-handed scimitar. Being of a similar length and shape as its right-handed counterpart, Arverfrei was a gift from the Arae sorceress and it has a unique ability where nightfall, shadows or darkness trigger a cloaking effect on its blade effectively making the blade invisible to the naked eye. This in turn works to Aethian's advantage as the opponent, if he has not observed the blade's length cannot judge its reach.

  • Farlainas: Aethian's white whip that has a maximum range of 3 metres and a minimum of 3 feet depending on Aethian's will. Aethian is adept at using his whip but he seldom uses it.



Skills and Talents:

Stealth: In environments that facilitate stealth, Aethian will not hesitate to use it. He is after all, a Nightfae.

Expert Strategist: Aethian is an expert at quickly taking note of his surroundings and forming strategies on the go. This skill however, works to a lesser extent when his enemies are few and his field, empty. He attained this skill as he was training to be his mistress' personal guard.

Heightened Senses: As a result of being blind, Aethian has heightened hearing and smelling senses.

Above-Average Acrobat: Most of the times, this Nightfae knows when and how to get his feet under him, tossed around as he gets frequently.

Master Darkness User: His strength amongst all his skills, Aethian is a First Class Darkness User and can manipulate shadows and other dark magic at will. He has received extensive training in this field as it is essentially the basic foundation of who he is as an Arae. Being in dark places and hiding in shadows etc. naturally heightens most of his Fae skills. Come night, he gains exponentially in his agility, his endurance and his speed. Raw strength is something he never could come to terms with so he never rams at things. Some of his spells include:

1. Nocturnus: Aethian solidifies the shadows around him and morphs them into shields or spikes in order to defend or attack respectively. The deeper the shadows, the stronger grows Nocturnus. The shallower the shadows are, the weaker will be the shields.

2. All-Seeing: Aethian removes his blindfold and opens his eyes. He can then see his opponent. It is said that one look at Aethian's eyes is enough to slowly leech a person of his magical energy. This in turn exhausts Aethian and he must close his eyes soon.

3. Nightfighter: Aethian casts a temporary illusion on himself where he thinks it's night. While the enemy remains unaffected by this illusion, Aethian gains a massive increase in his battle skills. This spell lasts for around 5 minutes.

4.Shadowshift: Aethian melds with the shadows around him and can then appear anywhere around the foe thus ensnaring him into a deadly trap. Only sudden flashes of light or fire will force him to revert back to his normal state

Weaknesses:

-Cannot stand a pure aura anywhere too close to him.
-Not very strong.
-Vulnerable to strong light magic.
-Vulnerable to excessive heat-inducing magic.
-Weak against fire magic.
-Lacks proper battle armor.


Personality: Aethian, even though he has become a Nightfae has retained most of his human nature. He is a proud hunter who will never let a prey out of his sight. He fiercely defends his mistress and will let no harm come to her. He does display shreds of complacency here and there but otherwise, he is very accommodating and friendly. One thing that has made itself known as his inherent Arae nature is that he generally displays a bit of hostility towards creatures or wielders of the light element. He respects women and females in general as he used to when he was human. He treats equals with dignity and respects his elders while showing affection towards those younger to him. He feels that thatis all that matters and all that he must show during his time in this Tournament.
