Wootz -> Honest opinions based on your point of view (6/19/2013 19:35:38)

Hello everyone. Wootz here providing another joyfull experience on the AEF.

The point of this is that I'd like to hear the opinions of everyone. Everyone meaning F2P/P2P players, Moderators, Testers, even the Developers and pretty much anyone who has ever interacted with the game.

I do think that this thread will not have any flame in it and is purerly based on constructive comments about the game. Also, I encourage you to not to flame or blame anyone.

For a start. I'll post my opinion.
-------------------------------
I've created my account at 12/4/2009 8:45:37 AM and I missed the Alpha phase by one day because of my AdventureQuest Worlds membership. As soon as it was open to non-paying players I started playing the game and I fell in love with it.

I was a horrible player and I destroyed some really great accounts by retraining. But I kept going from the start atleast douzen times and I finally made it to what I used to be in the beggining of the Omega phase. I had everything that I wanted. And one day I got stressed too much and sold almost everything I owned.

Everything that I used to own doesn't matter to me as I know that I am a loyal player and what ever happens that I will always return to the game. No matter how much I or the game is bad or good at the time. I still love the game that I play and fondly remember as it is one of my greatest gaming achievements and my best gaming memories.

Truth be told, I've grown up and changed quite a lot in the last year. Changed both myself in real life and in gaming world. I now have everything that I always wanted. I have love for a woman, I have my days fun and fulfilling, I have my friends, I have my music, I have my EpicDuel. I have everything. Honestly, a lot of things in my life didn't go so well in the last year and they don't matter to me because I wouldn't change a thing. Not a single things since I started in the Artix Entertainment community.

I love every aspect of the game no matter how horrible it is. I love every player in the game no matter who he or she is. I will always love and cherish the memories. The good times and the bad times. It all adds up to that I love company, this game, this community.
-------------------------------
So there is my story in short. I hope that everyone else can provide such without taking the thread out.
Enyoy your time.
Cheers,
~Wootz

Dual Thrusters -> RE: Honest opinions based on your point of view (6/19/2013 20:16:06)

I created my first account in gamma using a fake email. I didn't know what to do, or where to go. I ran around asking for help. I tried buying some items, buti didn't find anything under level 20! Another noob asked me for help. I didn't know what to do, so I challenged him. He instantly vaporized me by critting his cheap shot. I didn't know what to do with this game, so I just quit.

1 year later, I decide to come back to the game, and created a new account. I was greeted with something called the infernal war.I was determined to get this thing right. I farmed some noob npcs to properly equip myself with both XP and Credits. I got a bunch of gear, and PvPed all day. I was having so much fun! I played all day and got to level 13. My buddy list was full by the end of the day. The next day, I started meeting some seriously mean people. I tried to continue playing until level 18, but it just couldn't happen. All my friends said they would quit. My win record was starting to fade. I was losing interest in this game. I quit again

Some time later, I got a real email for my birthday. I thought about the trouble i had the last time I played, but I shrugged it off. .With my experience as Vega, I was not to fail this time. 3 days, I got to level 23. My build was kicking butt! Then I got Infernal Android and my ratio sky rocketed again! As I was nearing level 26, I knew I would begin to fight level 30 variums. I couldn't quit....I didn't quit. I made a high health build which helped me overwhelm them. level 28. I'm being pwned by varium level 33s. My win record shoots down to a 30% win ratio. There is nothing I can do... DestruRage gave me hope as a nonvarium. I spent my credits on all the enhancements I could get. cool....now I have a 50% win ratio T_T. I looked around google for help, but everything was outdated. Then I discovered the ED forums. SouL Prisnor helped me with my first build request, then my ratio became 60%. But it wasn't enough! I wanted more power. I needed......varium. Yess, for christmas I got my first varium. I decided that what I needed was a drastic upgrade...to evolve my character.....to become a Cyber hunter. OH BOY DID I SCREW UP! Now my ratio dropped down to 20%! Cyber Hunter was soooo bad -.-. But I tried to keep playing and get the hang of the class. I tried making an inferior copy of my old Bounty Hunter build. 43% ratio in omega. I don't have enough funds to switch back to bounty

Now I'm in the present. Everytime I try to get up in this game, I get greeted with a thwack on the head making me crash back down.

But there is still one thing that drives me to play this game: Hope that it will become what I played when first enjoyed it. I still beleive that future updates can still fix the game. Epicduel has not yet lost it's epic deep down inside.

EDIT: Oh boy that was really deep! :P

Killer666 -> RE: Honest opinions based on your point of view (6/19/2013 20:37:41)

I started this game around 2 weeks after alpha release. I was a noob needless to say. But in about 6 month from my first day I was #4 on alltime 1v1 and i knew just about everyone. Then Beta struck. after losses started stacking up i chose to leave epicduel. I was tired of all the pay to win players.

I would come on once a year or so get get the phase achevments but thats about it. Then finally i decided to come back. luckily Infernal war was a week away when i got back. So i power leveled and became well known to some top infernal leaders.

I am one of the new alphas still playing and im proud of that. The devs dont really bother with us anymore but players still greet me like im a hero :D anyways. happy dueling everyone

My new name is Shinokishi and im the founder of ConCussioN Faction

Khalix -> RE: Honest opinions based on your point of view (6/19/2013 21:59:22)

I'm amused an "Opinion" thread turned into "What's your history with ED" thread so quickly.

In my opinion, ED needs a tad bit more advertising to pull in players. The only time I saw ads of it was when I was visiting other AE sites.

ValkyrieKnight -> RE: Honest opinions based on your point of view (6/20/2013 4:02:12)

The Good
NPCs are no longer farmible for a falsified win/lose record.
All gears yeld similar stats allowing for aesthetic freedom.

The Bad

Health have been nerfed into the ground to prevent heal looping which people now do with Technology/Dexterity which is ironic.
Strength is inferior to the other 4 stats.
Technology/Dexterity are too powerful.
Credit prices for gears ( not cores ) gears are far more expensive than they need to be.
Quest are boring, need exp rewards.
Also Ironic, stat allocation freedom makes for less build freedom.

Not a whole lot I like about Omega if that isn't obvious.

toopygoo -> RE: Honest opinions based on your point of view (6/20/2013 7:58:49)

oh holy cow... wow. it was way back when... i started during the beta phase, from a link from aqw. i played up to level 7, but i didnt really understand the concept and i left the game for a few years.. i idnt even pick up my achievements :(
i came back during delta, just afte it was released and started playing a lot more. i stopped for half a year, but i continue now. i made a lot of characters too. i had merc who was negative, now has a 3.5:1 w:l, and i give people good builds and whatnot. although a lot of you dont know me in game, i plan on making more connections and getting involved in the community more, week by week. i did partake in the first release of frysteland war, but i missed delta.

i know its all over the place sorry a bout that, but i dont remember this very well :P
in my opinion, the game has come a long way, and has made progress for the higher levels, but still needs a tutorial for lower levels to join up and learn the basics, because a lot of people are suffering from a lack of knowledge. :/

odsey -> RE: Honest opinions based on your point of view (6/20/2013 9:19:03)

@Wootz This thread is really good because we can share our experiences. Thanks for making this thread.

I start Epicduel on the year 2009 when the beta starts. I begun as a tech mage until I level up. I didn't know how to level up even after reading the tutorial and make another account and also is confused for leveling up until I made a BH acc. I start playing for fun and I didn't care about my win rate. Once I met a full varium item wearer and I challanged him even though i knew I was going to lost. After that battle, he invited me to his faction and I start having fun, at least until Frysteland war/Infernal war.

Frysteland war is fun IMO even though it was like pay2win. It still gave me motivation to rise in the Frysteland LB even though I didn't have any gear but a weapon. Alas I made it to the top 10. I tried to beat the Legion as a exile but I failed and so the war ended. I also watched the yeti being turned to monster.

Now in delta, I had also fun and I am also still a BH. One day, I felt that I could have stronger gear when I got the bionical battlegear promo. I had fun with it and I decided that I shall change to CH, and truth to be told it is really fun. I forgot what build that I use but I definitely had fun.

Now there is another war. Still in the same faction, the rising hero I tried to fight the vault endlessly even though I am in another country and I used a not too good Laptop, I tried my best to fight the vault and stop the legion. It was also the day when I repaired the Dark Varium blaster. When the war is almost finished, I bough the Super Mecha Cannon and I use it until now which brings back the memories. With a long battle, I found that the exile win and I picked up some achievement and the infernal android and I sold it after it got a nerf.

There is one thing that made me sad though. The faction is now inactive including the leader. I tried to wait patiently for him to get back on but he did not. So I decided to leave the faction and tried to find a new faction but I wil never forget my faction which help me a lot.

Now it is Omega. I remembered my friend, Sin Royal Hunter which I was friend with him since I was a noob and he came back to see what happened. He told me that he is not going to play much because of school(if I am not mistaken).

One day, I saw a thread in the Q&A about someone who wants to join a faction. Someone answered it and I want to join a exile faction so I joined it. I met with blitzex which is one of the best officers in game, But one day I was kicked by my leader, mew626 and I decided to live with it.

I struggled to get a better win rate and I used a 5 focus build. One day, I am contacted by King Helios and he invited me to his faction which I stayed with him until now. I changed from 5 focus due to a nerf and tried to get a better build.

ED no matter what happen, I will come back to see the changes be it good or bad and maybe one day this game will be balanced like most people want even though I know one side cannot exist without the other.

CivilAE -> RE: Honest opinions based on your point of view (6/20/2013 20:50:40)

Off in on Player/Pvper since December 8th '09. I love this game its pretty chill fun to pvp, aside from 1v1z and 2v2 battles ive havent really put into any serious activity in the game (0 Influence no fac still going strong ^.^)

Beta was a blast until got into the higher lvlz

Gamma/Delta where great, played the most around this time left for a bit toward the end of delta.

Omega is okay but there are some problems that need to be adressed I do like that there making the game more fair to all. Nowadayz the 2 Dominant statz/buildz I see are Tech and Dex, (maybe support) with little variety those being the defensive stats and the ones that have the most bonus's. Unfortunately, the balance for that has been broken a bit, its very difficult making builds for classes like cyber hunter Promos like the azrael one arent helping either :/.

killerman164 -> RE: Honest opinions based on your point of view (6/20/2013 21:07:36)

I love telling TL:DR Stories :)
I first joined at beta when it was winter with the frostbane and stuff, the runaway button was there for the abuse. Throughout the entire progress, people have ran away from me because of either how much I'm a noob, or I like Pokemon (yeah what a reason)
I've quitted for a while, because game was complete complicated for me to play. I came back at Gamma, I've improved and I am proud of myself for improving in Gamma... and throwing money at Titan. After a while in Gamma, saw no point in playing.... Joined back in semi-late Delta when Easter Event has been here. Now everything was a miracle, for each alt I make, I realize how much I have been improving in Delta... Until I see the juggs. Besides getting my butt beaten again and again by a juggernaut, I know something of myself. I AM IMPROVING I've thrown lots of cash because of the enhancements (harhar). I was all fine with Delta, when Omega had come... Well I never cared. I'm never a pro lvl30-35 via Omega, but I'll give you that I am a skilled low level player. I really do hope I can find a new 1v1 build... I'll just have to plan things. I would love to study every build and decrypt it :)

kosmo -> RE: Honest opinions based on your point of view (6/21/2013 1:40:31)

I joined in early beta, I had a blast.I was a big tech mage noob using maxed bolt and maxed technician to the point I had to start a new a account: my merc, wich also falled behind when I reached cap lvl.I made my fist good charter, heal loop tech mage wich owned.I used my mage till delta, when support builds got strong again, then I got my merc back (wich had became a tlm) and started owning again with heal loop. After they nerfed heal to the ground I made my very frst caster build with mage and than I experienced most of the classes until I didnt find out that bloodmage was the best and I had real easy life at the end of delta.Omega brought the big change in epic duel, this didn t make me stop, I started playng even more, much thing where changed and I got the advantage from fast battles farming tons of wins still using the slowest builds with almoast evry class. Now I am currently a merc but I m planning to change again when the war goes live.
Since I play I saw this game getting better and better (exept for gamma phase ofcourse) devs actually listen players (even too much) and try to get our feedback on evrything they change and fix it if we dislike it too much.I can t think at a better game, it bring the challange in evrything you do and I will keep playng whatever they decide to do.

8x -> RE: Honest opinions based on your point of view (6/21/2013 5:23:22)

Here is my honest opinion. I used to love playing ED, but after years of playing, it simply became boring. I don't care about new features anymore and random prize codes are starting to annoy me... I only come online to complete new missions and gather information for the ED Wiki.

Scyze -> RE: Honest opinions based on your point of view (6/22/2013 3:56:53)

Beta
I was playing EpicDuel after it merged with Artix Entertainment back in December 2009. Ever since that first month, I never thought I would be this good at dueling as I sucked at playing. I did make a few other accounts to play as different Classes but kept playing as a Tech Mage until late Gamma.

During this phase, I didn't play that long, only an hour or two during the days because I was terrible. Varium at this time had a huge advantage; I would be defeated in about two turns by a Strength Bounty Hunter.

Gamma
Towards late Gamma, I decided that I needed a new beginning, a fresh start with a Class I loved playing and to have more fun with my Faction - The House of Redemption (Exile). Bounty Hunter was the Class I chose and then I only decided to beat NPC's until a certain level. Honestly, with the fresh beginning, I was enjoying the game a lot. Defeating players who had Varium with different creative builds, I learnt a lot just by seeing how they behaved at certain points.

Unfortunately, I forgot to collect the Gamma Tester Achievement. [:@]

Delta
The change into Delta was unnoticeable for me, the new Classes were great. I didn't think Tactical Mercenaries were much of an OP Class and I didn't care. All that mattered to me was that I was finally having fun. During the Frysteland War, I finally decided to buy Varium. I did use up a lot fairly quickly and spent quite a lot of money afterwards. Honestly, those days were the greatest days I can remember. Different builds with different strategies were the only thing that made me continue on my journey.

Omega
A lot of people had high expectations for Omega. The whole change sounded like it would make the game better but it turned out to be a bombshell. People decided to leave and start calling the Developers rude names which did concern me a lot as I was one of them at times. In the end, I realized that I cannot go further being who I am. I don't wish to leave the game I love but it feels like I have to. Nothing is going too good for me, the NPC's being counting to the battle records made me play nearly every hour during the previous 2 phases. That was one reason to why I don't get the urge to play after the removal.

Me in-game
I was the underdog as Malicious Neos, then got better as Venexus and now as Scyze, I feel great. Hopefully, the game returns the great times I and many of you once had. Each of those battle backgrounds give me memories which I constantly think about at night and smile remembering it. I absolutely love how the game is supposed to be played. I do feel that EpicDuel is a successful game but now it is losing players but at the same time, the game is gaining players. *The ratio of losses to gaining might not be even.*

The change - Omega
I don’t think the main reason to why the people are quitting is much which the new features but the changes of the stat points. HP/EP being worth 1 point just like the other stats are the main reason IMO. People are used to seeing high HP and dealing a high amount but the changes of Omega make it hard. If the NPC’s not counting to the battle records were removed in Delta, I still think that people would be happy. Why? Because of the change people now notice, it’s hard to adapt with.

Are people’s battle records finally showing how good they are? Honestly, I think it’s not doing so good. The Cores are one of the main reasons people lose or win due to them increasing the chance to do whatever. Maybe in Delta without the NPC’s record counting feature, I still think that the wins to loss ratio would be quite accurate.

My current plans
It was during late Beta that I moved to my current country. This August, I'm moving back to the UK looking for a new beginning as well. This time, it isn't in-game but in real life. I still want to see how the game will be during the time when I don’t play that much.
This might sound like a story and it sort of is. I wanted to tell my story as well as describe the changes.

To the Developers
I do hope that you aren’t blaming anyone or yourself as this change was nearly a gamble. It’s life, now just think about making the game enjoyable for the players. Maybe, it’s time for you guys to get more volunteer artists if you need help. MechQuest recently got a few and maybe you could squeeze some more into the EpicDuel family.

Please remember that you guys have inspired me a lot in many ways. I hope you guys still enjoy making the updates weekly and still find the dedication to stay up late. [:)]

Yup. My opinion, some what like this.

They runied all the fun left in ED with all that so called "balancing act"(Removing varium advanatge)

I Underlord I -> RE: Honest opinions based on your point of view (6/22/2013 11:05:15)

There is still a massive Varium advantage, SOuL Prisnor. It is difficult for even the greatest player with the best luck to obtain dozens of thousands of credits to upgrade equipment and perhaps get a core or two, not to mention that it is not optimal; on the other hand, spending real-life money is a quick and easy shortcut that can be repeated for essentially anything one might need, with an excess of extra items from 10K Varium Packages.

There was nothing "fun" about entering a battle and losing not due to lack of strategy or creativity, but because of the fact the other player(s) paid to win.

Mother1 -> RE: Honest opinions based on your point of view (6/22/2013 13:38:17)

@ scyze

the fact that NPC counted period is the reason why that group is upset. It could have been done in gamma or even beta but the difference would have been when the complaining started.

@ underlord

I think he is getting at the fact that those who brought varium got a very unfair refund for their enhancements not to mention that those who spent money or even spent time farming offers for varium got a huge nerf for the sake of those who don't spend a dime on the game. Even if their is a varium advantage still many people don't want this new one they want the old one back.

(Meaning some enjoyed being up non variums since back then non variums to a varium player was a punching bag.)

That was the whole reason why I got varium. I remember someone from a specific faction who is on ''all time- 2v2'' kept bullying me and kept beating me. I got so mad like ''Hulk'' I decided to get it & started to use him as a punching bag. Now it's just a waste. If only I didn't get it in the 1st place. I never knew they would get rid of enhancements but back then I thought enhancements would never go; it eventually did...

And that' s how they lost most of their good varium players for more non-varium players.

Exploding Penguin -> RE: Honest opinions based on your point of view (6/30/2013 11:35:31)

The good:
It was good back in previous phases

The bad:
-Fights are too short and turn-based PvP lost one of the main entertainment points behind it: strategy
-Omega took away a large majority of diversity among builds because all weapons can have their stats changed and no longer have their own individual unique ones
-Omega cores devalued pretty much all promos previously

The Incredible Hulk -> RE: Honest opinions based on your point of view (6/30/2013 16:44:21)

The good
-The art is amazing
Gj Charfade & Nightwraith
- The golden yeti wanted me to play which was a good thing.
I won the golden yeti
- I love Yetis

The bad
- Game is boring
- No new level cap
- Not many new features/ I bet when they finish the mission thing they are doing; they will say that it is bugged and will need more work ^^.
- The whole war is ruined
Not interested in it anymore neither the new achievements

Liz Vicious -> RE: Honest opinions based on your point of view (7/4/2013 12:20:05)

I hadn't played this game for about a year, and recently decided to revisit it. Observations? It doesn't matter now what button you hit your either just going to win or not. No interaction with your opponent, you might as well be fighting the computer. Essentially, dull.

DunkThatOreo -> RE: Honest opinions based on your point of view (7/4/2013 20:02:57)

^Exactly. The devs would rather focus on something that's meaningless and boring at the moment rather than improving PvP and the game in general.

ValkyrieKnight -> RE: Honest opinions based on your point of view (7/5/2013 6:56:49)

I firmly believe the only way to truely fix ALL abuse in this game is to simply reduce the base energy. This will force players to invest points into energy if they so desire to try abusing stats which I know they won't do so we won't be seeing any max level surgical strikes or malfucntion, heal / smoke loops. The developers really should give it a shot. All skill abuse stems from the fact that you Don't need to invest any stat points into energy I beg them to consider this.

Q...Q -> RE: Honest opinions based on your point of view (7/5/2013 8:45:57)

Bring back delta!!!!!!!
Omega is a fail

problem is this would buff those people with ep-less functional builds [ like mine lol ]

Mother1 -> RE: Honest opinions based on your point of view (7/5/2013 15:57:35)

@ Q---Q

If I was given 20 varium for every time I heard someone say that in the forums and in game since the beginning of omega to now I would over 12K varium.

Q...Q -> RE: Honest opinions based on your point of view (7/5/2013 17:33:50)

@mother1

So thats 600 players , more than half of the players that are actually active right.

People do not like the omega update.

Devs fix this thanks !
