ValkyrieKnight -> The mindset behind the saying "Good Game" (6/24/2013 23:57:26)

This is why I dislike when people say good game and personally never use it.

Good Game? Really?

Line 1: He uses Reflex Boost to counter mine.
Line 2: He declares victory by saying "good game" after a deflection.
Line 3: I attempt to use Overlord to stall for rage because my rage bar was nearly full.
Line 4: He gets upset that I landed the Stun.
Line 5: I get rage as a result of the Stun.
Line 6: I defeat him and he becomes irate because he lost.

What happened to that "good game"?

Everyone should just stop saying it, it does more harm than good.

GearzHeadz -> RE: The mindset behind the saying "Good Game" (6/25/2013 0:03:51)

People usually say it to attempt to smear victory into your face. Sort of to spite because they won. Same way they say "Bad Battle" as to say you did so horrible that it was just awful for you. These sayings are typically just ways to passive aggressively rub your face in the dirt. But on the other hand, some people will say it and actually mean it because they are genuine people. You can typically tell when they do mean it, because like the picture you posted, will not have been trashing during the battle.

You won't be able to stop people from using these sayings or trashing in this game. It is a pvp game and there is almost always bashing in these games. I guess all we can do is stay positive, don't let them get to you. Realize that if you do not retaliate to those immature people who feel the need to stoop to those levels that you a better then them.

Dual Thrusters -> RE: The mindset behind the saying "Good Game" (6/25/2013 0:07:16)

it actually makes me feel better when they say gg, no matter how I lost.

GearzHeadz -> RE: The mindset behind the saying "Good Game" (6/25/2013 0:08:06)

@Dual Thrusters
Even when they do it like the in the picture link that Valkyrie posted?

Dual Thrusters -> RE: The mindset behind the saying "Good Game" (6/25/2013 0:14:58)

ESPECIALLY those pictures

ValkyrieKnight -> RE: The mindset behind the saying "Good Game" (6/25/2013 0:16:13)

In the context in which I encounter its almost always when I lose people say "Good Game" the other is when I dominate and they say "Good Game" which even then I know isn't genuine and I reply with a : / face.

The Joker X -> RE: The mindset behind the saying "Good Game" (6/25/2013 0:24:48)

I don't know about you guys but back in beta, everyone used to say those lines, even those who lost. It was like the way every match ended. For me it felt like the match ended on good terms and everyone put up a good fight, even the team that lost. It was a way to show respect, and I guess the phrase "good fight" or "good game" changed in meaning over the years. It certainly makes me feel better knowing my opponent didn't call me a "luk noob" and rather used the phrase "good fight".

Midnightsoul -> RE: The mindset behind the saying "Good Game" (6/25/2013 0:31:09)

^Yes, in Beta it was so much better.

But apparently Valkyrie, not everyone gets mad for losing, even if it was a lucky loss.

GearzHeadz -> RE: The mindset behind the saying "Good Game" (6/25/2013 0:37:40)

I guess the reason why people always go "lucky noob" now is because luck has never been a bigger issue in ED. It has changed gameplay a lot since luck now usually determines matches. Is really irritable to most players.

ValkyrieKnight -> RE: The mindset behind the saying "Good Game" (6/25/2013 0:40:54)

I win probably once every 3 fights due to stupid Azreal Aux but whenever I do win, it results in my opponent shocked that they lost. I guess people have regarded BM as a crap class?

Dual Thrusters -> RE: The mindset behind the saying "Good Game" (6/25/2013 0:45:02)

Azreal is pretty easy to get around :P

Btw blood mageis actuallypretty good now

ValkyrieKnight -> RE: The mindset behind the saying "Good Game" (6/25/2013 0:47:51)

@ Duel

I'd love some build examples, it seems until I can get Yeti, there isn't no way I can beat them. 80% of all 1v1 fights are against bounties.

Dual Thrusters -> RE: The mindset behind the saying "Good Game" (6/25/2013 0:59:04)

Make a demolition build.

It's a build that can do high damage every turn.

Or you could just naturally have high defenses.

ValkyrieKnight -> RE: The mindset behind the saying "Good Game" (6/25/2013 1:05:24)

Those builds fail for BM, debuffs cripple high str builds, in fact, I always have high strength but since TM/BH now sporting high hp there's really no advantages, well, against TMs but the majority of 1v1 fighters are BH.

Dual Thrusters -> RE: The mindset behind the saying "Good Game" (6/25/2013 1:18:15)

Intimidate+shield

You're welcome [;)]

Khalix -> RE: The mindset behind the saying "Good Game" (6/25/2013 1:37:32)

I expected a comprehensive thread about people rubbing wins right in their opponents' throat.

Seems like I was wrong.

CivilAE -> RE: The mindset behind the saying "Good Game" (6/25/2013 2:40:31)

Seen this happen in games over and over again, Honor codez come and go altered and changed with the new generationz . I hardly use good-game anymore myself nor do I really talk to my opponent :L(one of us is going to be dead in a minute, what more do we have to talk about ;o?.. idk) But when i get those longer fightz where me and my opponent are actually trading blowz for awhile than I think thats worthy of a "Good Game"[;)]

Dual Thrusters -> RE: The mindset behind the saying "Good Game" (6/25/2013 2:45:20)

@civil

How do you get your text box to be so long O.o

I say gg just to make my opponent feel better. If it wasn't worth saying it, I just keep quiet. If a match was really fun, regardless of the time, I say epic match, man( or gurl[:D])

CivilAE -> RE: The mindset behind the saying "Good Game" (6/25/2013 2:55:28)

^ lol, Fast reply, Wasnt very fast, kinda screwed up yeah, i think i fixed it Lol.

Azwan -> RE: The mindset behind the saying "Good Game" (6/25/2013 3:25:11)

Here are the times when I say "Good Game" or "gg." :

1. When I know I am about to Win next turn.
2. When I know I am about to lose next turn.
3. When I have won the actual battle.
...

To be honest I say it all the time, I have actually used it so much in Epicduel it got to a point where whenever I played sports in real life and won I would say "good game" to the other team, haha.
Also in Epicduel, even when the other player becomes abusive for no apparent reason or arrogant and is about to win the game I still say Good game at the end just to show his negativeness does not effect me.

Dual Thrusters -> RE: The mindset behind the saying "Good Game" (6/25/2013 4:00:38)

^

Ya, when someone throws a rock at you, throw a bag of chips back and maybe you could be friends :D

martinsen5 -> RE: The mindset behind the saying "Good Game" (6/25/2013 4:34:32)

@Dual Thrusters, same here! At least in most cases, when the other player says GG, it's because the battle either was tough and lasted longer than usual, or if I was /this/ close to killing them, but they got a lucky crit or stun and finished me off. It generally makes me feel better when people say GG in battles, rather than those who say absoultely nothing and just slaugther you in two rounds.

ValkyrieKnight -> RE: The mindset behind the saying "Good Game" (6/25/2013 4:57:00)

I started becoming annoyed by "Good Game" because in my experience it's only been use when my opponent is about to win. Granted, people do say it when they lose but the grumpy people outweigh the good.

This particular instance I screened because it amused me how this person can say "Good Game" when they beat me more than once but the second I win they go "wth omg noob"

8x -> RE: The mindset behind the saying "Good Game" (6/25/2013 6:14:44)

It seems like some people think that gg means "game over" or "kill". For example, I fight someone and they think their next move is kill shot and they say gg. When I survive they say "or not". And when they kill me the next turn they say "now it is gg".

Also, I think that sometimes people say gg just to rub their win in your face. (Good example is ValkyrieKnight's image)

TRizZzCENTRINO -> RE: The mindset behind the saying "Good Game" (6/25/2013 7:33:58)

let's just say that those people who does that are just not mature enough to be polite, even when playing a game.
