The Burke Family sigil is a gemstone crossed by a pickaxe and a chisel(like a jolly-roger), with the background being purple.

Also what are the brown spots in Craghold?

black knight 1234567 -> RE: Isle of Dracos - OOC (1/31/2014 20:36:16)

Name: His real name is bit of an enigma, he goes by the name Alcatraz.
Age: 36
Gender: Male
Position: A commander under the crest of Gemhold.
Physical Appearance: One way to describe him would be tall. Standing at 6'11, Alcatraz dwarfs most of those around him and this appearance is only emphasized by long, brunette hair, with a thick beard and piercing brown eyes that fit into his circular face and Caucasian skin. His tallness is accommodated by the build of a warrior, sturdy and capable yet capable of being fairly agile at the same time, at 160lbs.

Armor/Clothing: Alcatraz isn't afraid to show off his colors and allegiance. Black spaulders rest on his shoulders, made out solid obsidian rock, coated by anodized dark steel along with his chest piece, extending to his gauntlets *or black gloves, depending on the occasion* with a wavy black cape that runs all the way down to his feet and can cover the entirety of his figure when needed, under the cape on his chest is a black piece of solid rock armor, decorated by cloth tabard with the crest of Gemhold on it. His boots were of the very same set up as the rest of his armor, carrying his weight around. Across his chest piece are two ''belt'' like pieces of black leather, that contain small daggers and knives.

Weapon(s): The closest to a life companion Alcatraz ever had, Tanlladwyr. A sturdy steel sword with a hilt decorated with various stones, gems and certain writings, scribed upon it over the years by Alcatraz himself, describing pivotal moments he went through with the sword, if he was ever to fall, something would remain. While those daggers on his chest may seem like harmless decorations and statements of rank, several of them are outfitted with slow effect poison should the need ever arise.

Skills and Abilities: Alcatraz is a master at swordsmanship, his strikes carry more weight around but are a bit slower, creating a bit bigger window to dodge. But when they strike, they strike hard and if not killing blows, they sure leave a mark. He prefers to carries his sword one handed over two, as he feels it allows him room to use his bare hands for utilizing his surroundings and for using overhanded tactics, if needed. He likes to improvise and is fairly capable of adapting, but not much else that really sets Alcatraz apart.

Hold: Gemhold, but not as the high king but as a commander.

Family: None, or atleast that's what he wants to believe.

Personality: While Alcatraz tries to play the cold stoic type, it's all a facade that hides his huge sense of loneliness and insecurity, that stems from his origins. He's quick to go to the defensive, but on the other hand he is fairly rational when it comes to his decisions and tries his best to keep emotions out of the equation, it usually works well, which ended him up in the high rank he is in now. He also always somewhat grudged high king Artacis and how close he is with his family, especially his twin sister who he and her are inseparable, but not to the degree of pure hatred for both.

History: Reject, denial and neglect. Three words that sum up Alcatraz perfectly. Born into borderline royal blood of a wealthy family, you'd think Alcatraz would be raised as a king, with the finest of the finest only. In some aspects, yes. He'd eat the food that would only be be a dream to the less fortunate, he'd dress the finest of material and silk, and everyone was at the whim of his hand. Expect affection, love, and care. Between him, his mother and father, the to be commander might aswell have been an illegitimate child, because he was always rejected. The moments where he craved for the kiss of his mother, she was always absent, pandering around to all those around here, each one of her friends as equally plastic and fake as her. When he wanted the guidance of a father, he was busy running their source of fortune and what ever scarce moments of freedom they had, he was always pushed aside, swatted out like a fly. At moments his father and mother would lash out at him, be it a deal gone bad on his fathers part that would always end up with bad bruising for Alcatraz, or his mother leaving him a crying mess after minutes of verbal abuse that would feel like hours Alcatraz grew up as a lonely child, it's where he found solace in swordsmanship. He would melt away his frustration at wooden mannequins....
And it all paid up eventually. When Alcatraz was old enough to considered an adult, to wield a proper sword, he wanted to make something out of himself, something out his own hard sweat. His parents left him a fortune, after his father died to an on site accident and his mother couldn't deal with it all and passed away soon after. But he didn't want to be associated with them. When scouting for a job, there was big news about a trade caravan going through Gemhold, and you can say, it was the right time, at the right place. The caravan no doubt had the eyes and ears of many bandits, and as Alcatraz was passing through to his new job application, war cries could be heard. A squadron of knights, ambushed by a small army of raiders and ravagers, they held up a valiant fight but sooner than later, they started falling. sword piercing through their hearts, and their heads rolling down the slope, Alcatraz rushed in to the scene, sword in hand, he rallied up behind the remaining 3 knights, the elite of the bunch. Bandit after bandit fell to the sword of Gemhold, and it was only a matter of time before reinforcements arrived and the godless bandits were driven backwards, but this deed did not go unnoticed. Alcatraz was recruited into the ranks of Gemhold, as he would rise through the ranks, his strategic thinking and improvisational skill him and the knights who stroke as one sword that day, the would be personal guards of his, and sooner than later he found himself a man of big political influence and importance. A commander over the hold of Gemhold

But nothing could compensate for his lost youth. He saw alot of himself in the young king Artacis, over time as his influence grow, both became closer to each other, and when the time to take action came and it was Alcatraz's turn to speak with the council, his word was not taken light. But he couldn't help but see in Artacis what should have been. He of course deeply respect Artacis, for he has sworn his allegiance for, but every time he and his inseparable brothers talk, chat, laugh, the question of why isn't that him overwhelms his thought, his mind. Will it perhaps lead to his very own damnation? that's something that the passage of time will show.

Master K -> RE: Isle of Dracos - OOC (1/31/2014 21:52:32)

I've pretty much made up my mind on the Kcyning Family Crest. I picture it as a crossed katana and fang, with a crown in the background.
The motto would be "By Serpents Fang and Serpents Blade".

quote:

Also what are the brown spots in Craghold?

I would assume those are mountains.

Riprose123 -> RE: Isle of Dracos - OOC (2/1/2014 0:57:02)

I'm about halfway done. Maybe. I'll finish tomorrow, don't worry. Added some more.

spoiler:

Name: Rattesse Sjövosson, though he is more commonly known as The Bard Lord, Sea Fox, Blade of the West, or the Thief King.
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Position: Lord of Bloodhold
Physical Appearance: Rattesse stands at an even 6', and just barely weighs in at 150 pounds. He is tall, thin, and lean. His skin is fair, and long, fracture like scars run up and down his back and chest, with irregular slashes on his arms and legs. His hair messy blond grows in a mane fashion around a prideful, handsome until it reaches his neck, where he chops it off, giving him the resemblance of a lion with a bad haircut. One of his eyes is a light grey, like the clouds that hang low over his hold, while the other is a dark green, like the swamps that frequent his land. He is handsome in his own right, and often draw eyes to himself at the way he carries himself, tall and erect, full of pride and a natural regalcy. His face is normally stoic, smiling or frowning on rare occasions in public, leaving his emotional displays for when he is with only family. This obviously makes it very hard for him to hide, but being a lord, he doesn't normally have to stay out of sight as much as he needed to in times past.

Armor/Clothing: When forced into combat, Rattesse wears a mixture of chainmail and studded leather armor. The chainmail is made of some black, non reflective metal, unknown to even the most knowledgeable of experts, while the leather is an odd darker brown uncommon among commercially available hides. His normal day to day and court clothing usually consists of a light cotton shirt under a long leather jacket, paired with cloth pants and high, laced boots. He wears no helm nor hood, and dons a heavy cloak while riding or travelling. Pouches line his belt, along with a money purse, which he rarely fills to the brim.
Weapon(s): Rattesse may not look it, but he is always armed. There are atleast three knives always hidden on his person, most frequently in one of his sleeves, in the waist of his pants, and in hidden in his boot. These knives are designed for throwing, slashing, and stabbing with the most damage inflicted, and are therefore ill suited for parrying larger blades. To make up for this short coming, he carries a kukri, a thick, curved knife, designed to parry and slash, perfect for deflecting much larger blades and keep them away from the defender. For a larger melee weapon, he carries a shotel, a sort of curved sword, resembling a sickle more than the traditional longsword. THe curved blade makes it perfect for getting past shields and parrying blades, and the pointed tip and sharpened edge make if more than an equal match for any longsword or other common bladed weapon.
Skills and Abilities: Rattesse has a very diverse skill set, thanks to his very diverse history. He has trained for many years, and through rigorous training and many bruises, cuts, and near close calls, has become one of the best swordsmen on the Isle. He has yet to find someone who can defeat him, though he rarely goes out looking for fights. He's very likable, and an accomplished actor in his own right. His singing voice is phenomenal, a deep baritone that paints portraits and tells stories that no one else could. Even given his theatric talents, he can hardly ride a horse, and squirms when forced to sit in a carriage or boat. He plays the lute quite well, and carries a small pan flute with him wherever he goes. He was taught to fight with knives at a young age, and is even more skilled with a smaller blade than with a larger one, if that can be believed. He dabbles in the art of acrobatics, and used to be a fair at the art of staying out of sight, though it has been some years. His hands are still light in other people's pockets, and he often finds himself with things he doesn't remember picking up.

Hold: Bloodhold is a rainy, dreary, swampy wet land, where the rain hardly ever shines and the people seem to be in a perpetual bad mood. Silt makes up much of the soil composition, though most of the hold is too wet and muddy to farm. Their horses are of average variety. They have no mines, and their smiths are not known for their weapon or armor work, nor are their artists known for the beauty of their painting. Rain is plentiful, sunlight is rare, and only a few of the roads are paved.

Given all these disadvantages, Bloodhold is still valuable in it's own right.

Bloodhold is almost as a well rounded as it's lord. It's ecosystem is unique and unmatched. Most plants that are rare in the rest of the Isle are common in the many swamps and river beds of the hold, as well as being home to quite a few plants that only make their home exclusively along the blood red rivers that frequent this region. Sulfur and other odd elements are common, given the vast field of hot springs and geysers that lay in the northern region of the hold, known as "The Field of Death," as no vegetation has ever grown there in recorded history. The abundance of such plants makes the hold the center for healers and alchemists alike, and the mere diagnosis from a Bloodhold physician is taken with great weight by all but the greatest of fools.

Dragon: Describe your dragon. There are many types, so I'm not going to discriminate. Be creative.
Family:
Note: The house's name is actually Sjövos. By tradition within Bloodhold, a suffix is added to the last name, dependent on gender. If the individual is male, -son is added, and if they are female, -datter. The members of House Sjövos are not all related by blood. They are a group that has stuck with Rattesse through thick and thin, and he counts each one as highly as a blood relative. More than one can only boast knowing of one parent, with only two of the members actually sharing blood with Rattesse.

Riza Sjövosdatter: Rattesse's younger sister, she is as charming and beautiful as Rattesse is handsome and mysterious. She is one of the only two Sea foxes related to Rattesse by blood, but can only boast half of her blood, as she never knew her mother. She stands at 5' 8", with generous feminine figure and equally generous amounts of charm. Her brown hair frames a petite face, everything just the right size of small, except for her wide blue eyes, seemingly caught in a gaze of endless wonder. She can normally be seen in the latest fashion, and serves as Rattesse's steward and source of court gossip.

Kellehendros -> RE: Isle of Dracos - OOC (2/1/2014 2:56:50)

As a quick update, I'm pushing along with things on this end. I have a couple of friends who I'm hoping to get some input from, and to do some checking for me. I've got a lot of it roughed out at this point, but there are some details remaining to be seen to. I should be on course to post tomorrow in what looks to be a silly-large edit.

black knight 1234567 -> RE: Isle of Dracos - OOC (2/1/2014 5:48:53)

Damn it i'm stumped on the history. I got a general idea and layout of what I want it to be but I just can't translate it into words and sentences. I'll try my best to have it up by tonight.

TJByrum -> RE: Isle of Dracos - OOC (2/1/2014 10:16:59)

@Dracyso777: The brown spots are suppose be important mountain locations. In order words, that's where you'll find tall, notable mountains/ranges. I should probably paint them gray.

@BK: Alcatraz seems fine, but I'd like to read the history before officially accepting.

@Riprose123: Can't wait to see the rest.

@Kellehendros: Awesome, can't wait.

EDIT: Added a characters list to the second post. You might be interested in the Iron Giant and Galimund. The Iron Giant is a massive warrior with a battleaxe who would be a worthy asset to anyone's war effort. Galimund may be one of the last Dragon Priests to live, and his extensive knowledge on dragons would prove invaluable.

Draycos777 -> RE: Isle of Dracos - OOC (2/1/2014 16:51:56)

Hey TJByrum, are any for these rivers able to hold boats? And can any of these rivers be traveled upstream by boats?

TJByrum -> RE: Isle of Dracos - OOC (2/1/2014 17:50:26)

Riverhold is probably the most accessible region for boat-river-transportation. Dragonhold, Gemhold, and Bloodhold would have a few. Craghold has to many rapids/waterfalls and is to dangerous; Rockhold is similar, but not as many tall waterfalls.

Riprose123 -> RE: Isle of Dracos - OOC (2/1/2014 18:55:49)

Would it be okay if Bloodhold had a large port, because according to your map, it's mostly bordered by the Fang Bay. Also, why is it called the Fang Bay? Large sharks? Sea monsters? Boring old rocks?

black knight 1234567 -> RE: Isle of Dracos - OOC (2/1/2014 20:37:48)

And done. It's going to be pretty interesting playing such a damaged character.

Eukara Vox -> RE: Isle of Dracos - OOC (2/1/2014 21:14:57)

Have a question.

Did the Dragon Priests have children, family, etc?

If so, the likelihood of having a character that was a descendant of one such dragon priest be possible?

Just curious

Kellehendros -> RE: Isle of Dracos - OOC (2/1/2014 23:13:11)

Okay, I've edited my original post (back on page 2) with the bio and hold details. Naturally, the historical details are there pending your approval, TJ. If there are any issues, please let me know, and I will get things fixed up.

Riprose123 -> RE: Isle of Dracos - OOC (2/1/2014 23:17:56)

Hey, Draycos, I had a question. Since most of the deziens of Gemhold spend a lot of their time underground, how do they normally react to the sunlight on the surface? Are they largely affected by it, or doesn't it affect them very much?

Draycos777 -> RE: Isle of Dracos - OOC (2/1/2014 23:32:25)

Actually only the miners spend most of their time underground. If you look back at my hold info you'll see that the other forms of work are at Outer GemHold on the surface. These people send their time underground when at their homes but, otherwise I'd say the Sun doesn't bother them at all. As for the miners and the Burke family, the mine is like most medieval mine. its dark but torches light the way so it's not like it's pitch black. Only difference is that it's much bigger so their eyes have adjusted to see what the torches can't light up. Their pretty pale so I'd say the Sun would give them a bad burn if they went without protection, but wouldn't blind them. There are also air shafts that bring in air and sunlight into the mines, so their are some places in the mines that have sunlight.

Also preparing Artacis and Lorelei's opening post as it looks like things are flowing smoothly for this RP. :)

TJByrum -> RE: Isle of Dracos - OOC (2/2/2014 8:28:49)

@Riprose123: Bloodhold may have three major ports, as all three of its western cities/towns are built on the coastline; there may be various smaller settlerments and villages with small harbors. Its peninsula-like location would make it a prime stop for sailors and traders who are sailing around the Isle. It is called Fang Bay because of the Fang-like shape of Bloodhold.

@Eukara Vox: The Dragon Priests did not have children. They were more like old sages who lived in temples or somewhere like Dragonhold Keep. They were like monks, I guess.

@Kellehendros: I will check it out later.

@Everyone: Today I will probably not be on much. If I do, it will be mid-day, and I may or may not find time to read your bios and answer more questions. The Super Bowl comes on today and I am planning on watching it. It will have trailers for Neighbors, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Transformers: Age of Extinction... and I plan on watching them all! Also, I got Dead Island for free (Games with Xbox Live Gold) and might play it.

EDIT: I lied. I went ahead and read the bio Kellehendros and I must say you did a great job; I was more invested in your history section than anything, and I will include all of that in my lore I am trying to compile (which I will release in a short while). Also, BK, Alcatraz's history is spot-on and he is fully accepted. That leaves Legendium and Riprose to finish up there bios, and then our Five Lords will be complete. If Eukara Vox and anyone else wants in, I will wait until they provide a bio. Meanwhile... lore time!

EDIT2: The Official Wiki:
omeria.wikia.com/wiki/Omeria_Wiki
-Still a work in progress.
-Anyone can edit it, so long as you're in the RP. You may create pages for your characters, your Holds, events, edit any mistakes I've made, etc.

Eukara Vox -> RE: Isle of Dracos - OOC (2/2/2014 11:14:31)

Not sure if I will join. I like being something irregular and mysterious, crazy or out of the ordinary. A descendant of Dragon Priests or the order would have been more fun than anything else. Thanks for answering the question, though.

TJByrum -> RE: Isle of Dracos - OOC (2/2/2014 11:39:38)

That is okay Eukara, good luck in your endeavors, hope to see you around.

Riprose123 -> RE: Isle of Dracos - OOC (2/2/2014 13:26:20)

I'm going to be perfectly honest, my bio probably won't get doen today. So don't be disappointed with me please. .-.

TJByrum -> RE: Isle of Dracos - OOC (2/2/2014 13:34:36)

No need to concern yourself with it Riprose. Take your time, as much as you need, no one's rushing you.

Draycos777 -> RE: Isle of Dracos - OOC (2/2/2014 14:21:19)

Been working on the wiki....lol this RP has already been alot more fun then I thought it would....giant spider approves.

Edit: Oh gosh, Velathi's description sound's a lot like Vritra's. Their names even start with V....

TJByrum -> RE: Isle of Dracos - OOC (2/2/2014 15:58:45)

@Draycos777: Good job, been noticing your work. Just keep adding whatever you feel like adding. Hopefully we can build an awesome world. I'll probably use this setting for a number of roleplays. Oh, and sorry about the coincidence.

Master K -> RE: Isle of Dracos - OOC (2/2/2014 16:00:03)

Ooh, a wiki! I'll try to work on it eventually too.
Are we gonna document our own characters?

Because I could probably draw pictures for my own characters.

TJByrum -> RE: Isle of Dracos - OOC (2/2/2014 17:02:18)

@Master K: The wiki is there for reference, or in case you're more interested in the lore. Everything you need to know specifically is on the OOC. Feel free to add onto the wiki at you leisure to help build a living world. I like to collaborate. If you want to draw pictures, go ahead.

Draycos777 -> RE: Isle of Dracos - OOC (2/2/2014 17:12:27)

I fail at picture drawing so you'll have to do with a description from me unless someone else would like to do the drawing. Gonna get started on a creatures page if their isn't one up yet. Also heres the rough draft for Gemhold's opening post:

At the courtyard of GemHold’s City Hall, Artacis stood with Vritra in front of a wooden obstacle course. Peering into it Vritra could see wooden planks sticking in and out of the walls. Artacis walked up besides Vritra and placed his right hand on his head and scratched behind his ears.
“You ready Vritra?”
Artacis looked down at the young dragon, awaiting his answer. Although the ebony scaled dragon had only hatched two months ago, he was already the size of a medium dog. Keeping such news like this to yourself is hard to do in GemHold and in a month and a half almost everyone in the city had heard of the dragon’s hatching although most haven’t seen it. Artacis hoped that not too many people outside have heard the rumors.
Vritra looked at Artacis and nodded his head.
“Yes, I’m ready but…”
Vritra looked back at the obstacle course in silence. Artacis prompted him to finish his thought.
“But? What’s wrong?”
“Why do I need to do this?”
“Because Vritra, soon the peace of the land will end and we all have to do what we can for the future of GemHold.”
Vritra looked up at Artacis while, Artacis himself, looked up at the rocky ceiling above them.
“Even Lorelei and myself need to train for what lies ahead.”
“I’ll do my best as well, master!”
Artacis looked at Vritra, who had bowed in a dog sort-of-way, and smiled.
“Please Vritra, it’s just Artacis. Anyways the concept is fairly simple.”
As soon as Artacis finished speaking the air behind them spilt as an arrow whished through it hitting the practice marks placed on right of the obstacle course. Vritra quickly turned around to see who it was that had caught him off guard. Behind them stood, an unarmored Lorelei, staring at her arrow. She wore a long-sleeved cloth shirt with leather trousers, black boots and black leather archery gloves made from the hide of a wild Aranea. Her long silver hair, which was normally styled with a side-fringe to the left, was pulled back to keep it from blocking her eyes whilst taking the shot and her piercing purple eyes looking at the bulls eye she had just made. She stands at a height of 6’6 and weighs 131lbs. Lorelei continued Artacis’ words like she knew exactly what he’d say next.
“All you have to do Vritra, is sneak along through the course, taking out as many as the practice planks as possible without getting caught.”
Lorelei lowered her bow and turned her head to face Vritra as Artacis continued.
“The crystal inside the planks will glow red if the light is blocked from it and the overseer will reset the obstacle. In the middle is a soldier. Disarm him silently and the course is done.”
“However,”
Lorelei continued on in Artacis place.
“If he sees you, you’ll have to fight him until he surrenders.”
“So in other words, take out as many enemies without being seen, right?”
Vritra summarized his task.
“Right, good luck.”
As Vritra quietly enter the course, Artacis turned to face his twin and folded his arms.
“Short range practice, huh? Still needs a little more work, though you’re unmatched at distance.”
Lorelei replied as she went to retrieve her arrow.
“Aye. It still lacks the accuracy I require.”
Yanking the arrow out of the wooden, Lorelei placed it back in her quiver and turned to face Artacis, her arms folded and her bow resting on her back. Her quiver, like her gloves, is made out of harden Aranea hide. The inside is split into four quarters, each quarter holding a different kind of arrow,
“I missed the heart by a horse-hair. So…you planned to do “that” now?”
Artacis nodded in agreement.
“Aye, we’ll need all the people we can muster, as well as the safety GemHold will be able to provide for them.”
Lorelei lifted her right hand and pointed at her head.
“Not to mention information.”
Artacis nodded once more.
“Aye, that too. Someone is bound to know what happened there. Someone who witnessed that bloodbath has to still be alive.”
“It seems more like a bad ending from one of the stories we use to read as children. The entire royal family line massacred overnight.”
“And the worst hath yet to come, sister.”
“Aye, no doubt the other nobles plan on starting another Reunification War just so their family line can take King Kalzar’s place, tsk, just thinking about it leaves an awful taste in my mouth.”
“Tis true, but there’s nothing we can do about it at this moment in time, except by our time and train the soldiers we have now. The 500 guards left behind from King Kalzar’s rule have stay here and are training swordsmen with Alcatraz but, they’ve have yet to seen a battle, let alone kill another human before. We are selves have only taken down bandits, they chose their path, but they ones that are to come won’t have a choice. We need people who have seen battle and death, and have gone through still fighting. Those who are will to fight for the chance to regain the peace they’ve lost. There are no doubt people like this in the towns of Dragonhold who have lost everything to the recent murders.”
“And calling on them to act shouldn’t be much of a problem, brother, it’s the travel to the towns then back to Gemhold, that will take time.”
“Aye, during which we’ll bring together the new unit. Send an outcrier along with a guard to the towns of Bremming and Kalzarton saying that those displaced by recent events or those wishing to shape their future can find peace, refuge and training at the city of GemHold.”
“Then I’ll send them out right away and get started on preparing our Araneus for travel.”
“Good, No doubt Halvard is with the miners and Gemma is overseeing the engraving being placed on the soldiers’ armor. I’ll meet up with Hally and see how then are moving along there, then meet up with you to speak to Alcatraz.”
“Right, then I’ll be off!”
Both Artacis and Lorelei covered their left fist with their right hand and bowed to one another. This is a common sign of respect among the people of Gemhold. Lorelei walked back inside of the City Hall and Artacis watched Vritra training inside the obstacle course before turning, and walking inside the City Hall himself.
