Blackshock -> RE: =OS= The Progress of Oversoul (6/19/2014 21:51:17)

I still think they should attempt at least starting a kickstarter, raise enough funds, hire professional coders, get the game back in playing shape. Seems like a longshot but it's one of the only more feasible recovery plans I have in mind at the moment.

DidYouKnowThat -> RE: =OS= The Progress of Oversoul (6/19/2014 22:00:37)

True, but running around like headless chickens ain't something wise either.
And unfortunately this ain't no movie. Lel.

@Blackshock: Yeah, kickstarters would be nice. It'd certainly attract a lot of attention. . .
I agree. :P

Gorillo Titan -> RE: =OS= The Progress of Oversoul (6/19/2014 22:44:12)

Has any you started doing something that could bring people back to OS or just listed ideas?

DidYouKnowThat -> RE: =OS= The Progress of Oversoul (6/19/2014 22:58:55)

Think Blackshock's idea of a kickstarter may be the best one yet, in my opinion. Though it'll cost $$$ . .
If not that, then it's just going to be character releases. . . . Not a strategy game anymore in my opinion. A dress-up game. . .kind of like AQW,
but the difference between AQW and OS is the community size. . .not to mention AQW has a storyline.

Gorillo Titan -> RE: =OS= The Progress of Oversoul (6/19/2014 23:05:44)

How about someone look up what you need to do to get a kickstart started as the first thing to seeing if its possible or not.

The Jop -> RE: =OS= The Progress of Oversoul (6/19/2014 23:15:37)

All you need is to create an account and then you can start a project. It usually explains what the project is and what would be done with the money. There's also usually gifts for different levels of donations; higher donations meaning more rewards (which could be characters and/or NPCs in this case). It would be embarrassing for a game that's already in beta to put itself on Kickstarter though.

Gorillo Titan -> RE: =OS= The Progress of Oversoul (6/19/2014 23:21:59)

Do we have the right to put the game on kickstarter though since we don't own it and have no real impact on what happens in it or not though?

The Jop -> RE: =OS= The Progress of Oversoul (6/19/2014 23:45:13)

I don't think so, since the money goes to whoever makes the kickstarter project. It should be done by the creator of the project, since we can't send them the money or promise rewards at donations levels.

ND Mallet -> RE: =OS= The Progress of Oversoul (6/19/2014 23:49:17)

Hmm...a Kickstarter like thing would definitely be interesting and would show that OS could still be a good source of revenue. Artix could set a minimum goal to get more staff onto the game while Nulgath could create special characters for people who donate enough. Maybe the highest tier of reward could be a special unique character for each player(within reason, I don't think Nulgath would like making a 300 foot tall fire breathing 3 headed octopus with chainsaw tentacles).

Not sure if it'll happen but it's definitely a good idea.

DidYouKnowThat -> RE: =OS= The Progress of Oversoul (6/19/2014 23:51:24)

I wonder if Patreon works as well.
http://www.patreon.com/

yeah!

@Nulgath: What about Patreon? Think you can use that?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If we're going to want people sending money to OS or something . . . .just be sure it goes to OS. .
know what I mean? Hate for something like that money going to another project. . . *cough* AQW Finale *cough* Artix's new game *cough* Bladehaven *cough* AQ3D
And Nulgath has tons of fans outside of Oversoul as well . .sooo .. . .
First saw Patreon used by a PokeTuber . . . . Xenon was his username. Cool guy.
megakyle777 -> RE: =OS= The Progress of Oversoul (6/19/2014 23:52:47)
I like the idea, but I also think if we are at it, why not make a Kickstarter for all the abandoned games rather then just OS? bring them all back.
Or maybe I am just deluding myself.
DidYouKnowThat -> RE: =OS= The Progress of Oversoul (6/19/2014 23:59:42)
@Megakyle: 1 at a time. . .1 at a time. . lel.
Shouldn't make the mistake they did by biting off more than you can chew. Lel.
Also...wasn't this about Oversoul. [&:] Oversoul first. :P
Blackshock -> RE: =OS= The Progress of Oversoul (6/20/2014 3:57:54)
Anyway, I've gotten around getting a copy of flash. I found the default drawing tools in flash somewhat hard to use but I found a workaround by drawing each individual segment in paint tool sai then saving them as PNGs with transparency on in photoshop then importing them and saving them as symbols in flash. It's a bit a roundabout process but I guess it gets the job done for me. Anyway, I had some spare files from an old project a former teacher of mine needed my help with and decided to use them to test out animation. It's pretty crude but I guess it's a test bed for animation practice for me. Whucha guys think so far?
This is the best idea so far. If we can get the game running again, implement all the features Nulgath wanted it could probably attract several players. On top of all the characters we already got, maybe it will turn up profitable and Artix will hire some more coders. Dunno it's worth a try imo.
Mondez -> RE: =OS= The Progress of Oversoul (6/20/2014 20:02:15)
I'm on my vacation in Korea and my goodness is the news from Nulgath pretty bad.
If anyone can tweet the thread that Megakyle put up to Artix and suggestions of using Kickstarter maybe we can get somewhere with this issue because it's disheartening to see a good game fall to the rut.
DidYouKnowThat -> RE: =OS= The Progress of Oversoul (6/20/2014 20:54:55)
@Mondez: To be honest I thought the 1st message was worse. It basically told us that OS was dead. :P
But then again comes the idea of whether or not AE would want to work anymore on OS.
To me, it seems like they moved on. They did move on. . . Very unlikely they'd bother to send coders to Oversoul it seems.
Besides, they're working on things like Project Omni, and Artix's game. And to me it seems they'd rather work on something like AQ3D than Oversoul . ..
Guess they see OS as too big of a risk to work on.
Either that or plain don't want to.
ChaosRipjaw -> RE: =OS= The Progress of Oversoul (6/20/2014 21:01:39)
Hmmmm . . . wonder if that's actually possible? [:-]
DidYouKnowThat -> RE: =OS= The Progress of Oversoul (6/20/2014 21:02:57)
But still, they didn't even finish it.
.-.
Which also wants me to know, if they felt like OS was too big of a risk to work on, why didn't they tell us earlier?
After all, I'm sure the decision of it being too big of a risk wasn't made recently/overnight.
.-.
ChaosRipjaw -> RE: =OS= The Progress of Oversoul (6/20/2014 21:15:29)
True.
IF they did decide so and IF they told us earlier, it's the same as placing a bullet to the head. Doh. OS would have been finished. At least in its comatose state, there are still some players. Not to say whether this is good or bad.
And, yes, it would be a decision made after some time.
DidYouKnowThat -> RE: =OS= The Progress of Oversoul (6/20/2014 21:21:12)
Placing a bullet to the head.
Well it's the same as it is now. Not to mention I prefer answers like that, straight to the point, instead of trying
to make something sound good when it's not, and/or dragging it on and on leaving players in the dark, thus basically wasting their time, no?
Eh. A decision made after some time. . .that was not what I was aiming at.
What I was trying to say was that a decision such as "We do not see hope in Oversoul anymore," would be made beforehand. It wouldn't
really be a decision they'd make at last minute, like at this moment. . . It's kind of obvious that they already gave up on it, ever since the 2 week updates started. . .
not to mention how sometimes, were not the 2 week updates late, thus 3 weeks? :P
Signs were all there. Why no answer? <_>
ChaosRipjaw -> RE: =OS= The Progress of Oversoul (6/20/2014 21:37:22)
Exactly, signs are all there. Like the clouds are dark and heavy. It's gonna rain. You don't need someone to tell you.
This is really depressing. Before last Valentine's release (that was around the time I started showing up on the forums again), how were things like?
DidYouKnowThat -> RE: =OS= The Progress of Oversoul (6/20/2014 21:42:06)
That's not the same for everyone. It's nice to get real answers, ain't it Chaos?
Besides, it's not a simple "oh, you can just tell" scenario. It represents something more than that.
Does AE really care for its community enough to be able to at least tell them the true status of their games?
Gotta look deeper than just Yes or No, get it?
Gorillo Titan -> RE: =OS= The Progress of Oversoul (6/21/2014 10:51:05)
I still support my idea of putting oversoul on Kongregate.com
BJEBLE -> RE: =OS= The Progress of Oversoul (6/21/2014 14:42:59)
@Gorillo I remember a thread on the kongregate forums about like DF being on there, and then AQW, but I think OS might do a little better because it's based towards a larger audience.
