War Rally and Scoring Bug
An issue was brought to our attention today regarding War Rally being given to the Exiles, despite the Exiles being ahead in damage.

We set out to look for any issues in how War Rally was determined, how it was displayed, or any other problems that might exist with the system. After some time, we were completely unable to find any problems. We simulated Rallies on our dev environment and every time it looked to be working as intended. What was going on?

Finally, while looking through the database for issues, we found something clearly off. One of the objectives had taken *significantly* more damage than possible.

This is a picture of the actual data in our database. The maximum health of the Hovercraft is 4,091,000. The damage dealt to it so far was over 6.7 million. Obviously this was not intended, so we set about finding the cause. It turns out that we were incorrectly dealing damage to this Hovercraft instead of the correct one when Legion players bombed them.

The war bar you see at the top of the game was not accounting for all of this extra damage dealt, and so it appeared that the Legion side was again falling far behind the Exiles. In reality, the Legion was keeping pace, and the war has actually remained very close this entire time. There were no problems with the War Rally system -- when the Exiles were given a Rally, it is because they were actually behind!

To fix the issue, we'll take the servers down, patch the bug that was dealing damage to the destroyed Hovercraft, and split the extra damage between the remaining Hovercrafts. The Legion score that you see afterwards is the accurate damage that has been dealt during the war in the Overlord Facility.

I find it amusing that as far as the game cared we were bombing the living daylights out of the health objective long after it had died. That's a whole two million points turning scrap metal into smaller pieces of scrap metal

The difference between dmgDealt and totalHP is roughly 2.6M, and it was not displayed. Add that onto the Legion bar. Now you have Legion's actual score, and the reason why Exiles got War Rallies a few times.

Welcome to the world of run time errors. If they are around and don't throw out an error you are back to the code trying to figure out what isn't working without any hints aside from what you think you should see and where that is in the code

Yep, just like Infinite Loops. They won't give an error message, so the program runs... Until it hits the loop, then you can't exit, because a process is running. Forever. It's really annoying when I accidentally make those (Although I don't think the Dev's/helpers like you would make those, since you're much more experienced than I).

ok rabble... One thing caught my eye... Tht total of the first 3 colums needs to equal the total damage to the AI objective.. I dont see how sql is messing this. Your picture shows 8269068 however it needs to be 8267472.. how is it even possible that the database doesnt know simple math. Whats going on here can you clarify please ? If such errors exist here how trustworthy is the balance tracker.. Can we have that audited too ? I just aint getting this sorry

Oh xD I was under the impression you had to be much older than a high-school graduate to help the team (Not trying to be offensive, rude, or anything like that. I'm actually happy younger people help out). I guess there's still hope for me... xD I'm in my second year of High School now, and the school won't give me my report card xD Do you need good marks (80+) to help the team?

And heh, I only have Visual Basic experience, so you still have more than I do. I ran into a few errors that should NOT have happened, and even the teacher couldn't figure out why they did xD

I think I say/type 'xD' too much... xD (I did it again!)

@Rui - My assumption is that the 8267472 number (total of the first 3 rows) is the damage dealt by Legion towards the Exile hovercrafts, thus they all have the matching alignment id, while the 8269068 number is the damage dealt by the Exile hovercrafts towards the core, thus a different id.

@Jacob again with the jokes [:D]. I'm a youtuber who has played ED for five years I don't help the developers. I'm just really accepting of what the developers say because life is too short to be upset about a flash game.

Also to help the Dev's you need to be 18 and passionate about what you are helping with. The art assistants are passionate about art, and the balancers and moderators are passionate about the game

@smgs then what are the numbers on the war bar. Those numbers have no coorelation to the numbers on this screenshot whatsoever. Am i missing something ? Cause right now there is a 2.6 mil points that need to be added to legions war bar but exiles war bar hasnt hit 8 mil.

There is no indication the in-game screenshot and the database screenshot were taken at the same time. The database screenshot looks to be taken sometime before they patched the servers, since those are numbers closer to what is currently present, whereas it's quite clear that the point of the in-game screenshot was to point out the fact that Exile had a War Rally when, visually, they had more damage dealt and were leading in the war.

@Rui The data base says the id 2 has taken over 8 million damage and logging in I see 8.3 million for Exile so that is a direct correlation if you account for the difference in time between now and that screenshot.

@Jacobs I do have a line of contact and it's called Charfade's livestreams. If you can attend those, and they normally get brought up on the forums, you can ask questions about the game and just learn a ton

Anyways, glad the bug is fixed... Although I would have liked it if you guys put the damage on one hovercraft, since that's what we would have done if everyone used the forums... Oh well, now both will finish faster, for the better or worse.

Trying to get the drops for the war is so annoying without the 100% drop core. out of 10 wins i get like 1 fuel cell, which gets me like 30 influence. so frustrating when I'm trying to get to 5k. I feel like the wars would be much better if both sides had the war rally bonus type settings constantly

Even after presented with some data and an official statement from the Devs, players decide to stick to their theories that have no backbone (data), and prying on others' naivety - to make them believe the same. The very same people who keep saying "listen to us, don't ignore", were the first to pretty much abuse them. But yes, that's how respect works - you resort to online abuse/cyber bullying, and deserve respect in return.

Some people should re-think their actions. You don't have to go as far as just praise the game, even though it's broken in many places. Just don't resort to abuse and complaints, and expect it to be fixed in a way that YOU want, without actually explaining it at all. That's why the minority is listened, because the majority just can't give any feedback at all.

Funnily enough, there weren't any complaints from Exiles, when they had War Rallies and 2M advantage (which was visual). Had it not been visual, I'm sure no Exile would complain, because they'd win. Yeah, so much for possible bug abuse and being fine with it - as long as you win. If you lose regardless, just accuse others of manipulation. It's just better to cheat players and lose them, than release genuine content + keep the players + gain more, eh? That's how absurd it sounds, the war manipulation. For money? There are plenty of ways to make money off ED, and Xendran mentioned them many times - micro-transactions. But no, it's better to lose players due to manipulation, and be worse off later on. Makes sense. No logic, but hey!
