OMG! Thank the Avatars! Nulgath responded to a previous post of mine.

OS will continue. I'm not sure who will be updating it though.

Yep, I no longer work at AE (including OS) but I didn't leave them. They had to lay off a lot of people including me. But I'll be back anytime they need me.

That's pretty insane. Don't know what's happening, but to think that they'd lay off someone like Nulgath is a bit astonishing. He's been such a contributing artist/staff member.

megakyle777 -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 155 - Read the first post! (8/2/2015 13:06:36)

If they had to lay off a lot of people, odds are it's not just office politics as some have guessed. Methinks AE are in ire straights as a whole.

Gorillo Titan -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 155 - Read the first post! (8/2/2015 13:13:03)

They don't bring in nearly as much since AQW popularity has plummeted.

Well at least we know the game could possibly go on would like word from artix though.

megakyle777 -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 155 - Read the first post! (8/3/2015 13:52:34)

Ask and ye shall receive Gorillo: Just got this PM from Loremaster Maya:

quote:

Hello megakyle777,

To alleviate your concerns, things are as busy as ever! We have had to shift focus - transitioning into the mobile market was a tough decision to make, but the industry required it. For a company with so much experience in the web browser arena, that took time, effort, and resources (as you know).

Keep an eye on the Artix.com Design Notes for news about the AQ3D Alpha starting this week, as well as our two new mobile game projects that are coming soon. But we've already released several omni projects at this point, and are hitting our stride! AQ3D looks to be a really strong project, and we are all incredibly excited about it!

Regarding OverSoul, Artix and Nulgath are going to write a joint letter updating the OS players. We parted on good terms, and will be promoting his projects - and if we work together in the future, he'll do so as Nulgath.

So on the plus side, we can rule out office politics and the like. But I doubt it's good news for OS.

The Jop -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 155 - Read the first post! (8/3/2015 15:08:39)

I don't even play games on my phone, I play...Oversoul...[:(]

I know Alina has to spin everything into good news, but this is pretty terrible especially for fans of Nulgath/Oversoul.

DarkLore -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 155 - Read the first post! (8/3/2015 15:54:33)

My character in OS may despise Nulgath, But the RL me is a huge nerd fan when it comes to Nulgath's work and animations. I think I might cry...

Gorillo Titan -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 155 - Read the first post! (8/3/2015 23:18:16)

AE will reach a point it can't move forward anymore with web games which require a lot more commitment to play while mobile games you can play anytime anywhere.

See if you ask a question enough time you get an answer.

So im guessing nulgath negotiated artix into promoting his miltonious stuff even though he's not an active staff member.

Now what I wonder is who the new game lead is will it be someone random and will they make OS mobile?

Now if only it was someone really dedicated to seeing Oversoul strive Id be happy though.

megakyle777 -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 155 - Read the first post! (8/5/2015 1:23:40)

...I have bad news.

quote:

I know how much you care about Oversoul, and that passion and dedication does you a good deal of credit in my eyes. Right now, we are not going to continue its development, that is true.

At this point, I don't want to make any kind of firm statement about the future of any of our games - especially our legacy ones. There is every possibility we may begin converting them into mobile games in the future - that's been discussed a number of times in the past, and is certainly not impossible down the line.

But it would be at some point in the future. Right now, all our full-time developers are focused on AQ3D, and need to keep that their top priority. If any of our volunteer artists want to contribute art to the game, that's something that can be discussed.

A bi9t more on the matter:

quote:

Nulgath was cut back recently, and is now focusing on personal projects. Artix is working on a post with him that will go up on the OverSoul site with a message for its players; that will be posted once he gets back in town. The parting was friendly, and we will be promoting his projects because he is an incredibly talented animator. And if he does return to work with us in the future, it will still be under the name Nulgath.

To address the point about weekly releases and our web-games: A few years back, we had to make a hard decision to begin focusing on our Omni games - and start shifting resources to those projects. There are several very big upsides to that - two of which are: 1) those projects will not be limited to web browsers and 2) those projects will not be restricted to weekly releases, like our web games are. That has already allowed us to spend more time in the planning, development, and testing stages of our Omni projects - and that is an excellent thing!

Here's the WHY of that decision: Every company needs to evolve with the demands of its industry - and that is what we are in the middle of doing right now. If you do not change - if you do not GROW - then you stagnate and are surpassed. People are shifting to mobile devices - phones and tablets - and away from computers. That's not to say no-one is playing web-games, but to stay competitive, we need to reach those people on the devices they choose to play games on.

We are very much an indie company - the support our players give is what allows us to build our games, and to develop new games. So we need to go to where new players are (and where so many of you already are, too) and build games for those platforms.

Right now, we are focused on our new projects - on AQ3D (which just went into Alpha yesterday), and on the two other new projects we have coming this fall - BioBeasts and Undead Assault. All three of those are on schedule, and will be available for mobile devices.

Every company has to adapt to succeed. I believe we are ramping up for one of the most exciting periods in Artix Entertainment's history - and I look forward to seeing many of you with us as we build the next generation of AE's games!

The Jop -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 155 - Read the first post! (8/5/2015 1:30:30)

Extremely disappointing, but not surprising at all. Nulgath has been the sole staff member keeping Oversoul alive for a long time. The way they took all the staff away from Nulgath's personal game before it even got out of Beta really makes me lose a lot of faith in AE. If they're confirming that they'll abandon their old projects to make mobile games (which I never play), I'm thinking about leaving the community honestly...

Loremaster Maya -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 155 - Read the first post! (8/5/2015 1:40:02)

To expand upon that quote, megakyle - right now, it's premature to give a firm answer one way or the other about any our web games being ported to mobile in the future.

After re-reading the PM to you, I can see the message didn't come across that way. But we have no plans to take any of our web games offline, and some of them (like DragonFable and MechQuest) have begun ramping up production and quality over the last year.

The Jop: We aren't going to abandon or stop developing web games - rather, we're going to develop games that will play on both mobile devices *and* the web.

megakyle777 -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 155 - Read the first post! (8/5/2015 1:45:23)

I mostly meant to draw attention to the no work being done on Oversoul bit to be honest, but I highlighted the positive bits to show it's not all bad.

BTW, while you are here, I note you said if volenteer artists want to make art for OS, they can talk about it. I have to ask though: can you at least ask them if they want to do it? I know Blade once said he's be willing to make Oversoul art, but only if ASKED due to the way things work there.

Loremaster Maya -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 155 - Read the first post! (8/5/2015 1:50:01)

Artists can ask to contribute to other games (like the wonderfully generous Zee from AQ and the gear he's sent over for AQW); we just want to make sure the game leads know who is working on what so that no one is overbooked.

The Jop -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 155 - Read the first post! (8/5/2015 1:52:16)

@Alina
Oh, alright. [:(]
I had so much hope in Oversoul though, and AE kept all its staff on other projects. I understand why you did it financially, but I still put so much time into playing the game and working with the community to try to save it. I appreciate your response nevertheless.
(On your note about developing games for the web and mobile though, I think I should remind you that Bio Beasts and AQ: Dragons are mobile only)

But... Oversoul has no game lead. And I know about that, but in the case of Blade, he said the game lead needs to ask the other game lead to prevent overbooking. OS has no game lead now to ask, so... wedll you can see the issue and why I asked if you guys can ask.

Nigraz -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 155 - Read the first post! (8/5/2015 13:29:03)

Even if we do get Blade or some volunteer, do we have a coder for implementation? There's no point in making the art if we can't get it into the game and ready to go.

GuardMouse -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 155 - Read the first post! (8/5/2015 13:41:27)

Game Leads are of no use right now, as there's no time for coding ventures. An artist such as Blade would be absolutely great to help give OS some more content, as that's what the game really needs the most as of right now. If we could get a coder, they probably would only be able to add a character or two, nothing a Game Lead could imagine. It is hard imagining a game producing much without a Game Lead, but for one that needs content I don't feel it would be first on the agenda. As long as Blade or whoever (if someone does volunteer) can imagine that creature being in OverSoul, it would be splendid either way. Also I don't Alina said Game Leads need to ask each other if an artist can work on their game, they just volunteer. (from what I understood)

Dragon Elite X -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 155 - Read the first post! (8/5/2015 16:40:46)

I believe Oversoul should just go into a mass production, the more shiny new things you bring to it the more revenue it will bring in. The concept is great, we just need things to do, a story. The game is hard to keep up because there's nothing holding you there. I understand the mobile market is promising but they often play and leave. What will AE games have that won't allow it to happen? It's the bird in the hand versus the bird in the bush.

Gorillo Titan -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 155 - Read the first post! (8/5/2015 18:01:48)

most of this information was already known though. OS lacks releases do to the lack of popularity and the income for it.

This will be my last post on the forums for sometime though.

Subon -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 155 - Read the first post! (8/6/2015 7:50:04)

Since Milton no longer works for AE, can we consider this game finished?

Since him not being sure who will be updating it could as well mean no one will.

Kiyone -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 155 - Read the first post! (8/6/2015 8:57:19)

With adding more content from volunteer artists. The AE team will most likely get a coder who is familiar enough with the game to add it in. Since the content will be more of a one shot thing. Like add a new character to capture and fight with. That should be relatively easy.

Yes and no. At this point the web version will most likely be consider complete for now but will still have an occasionally update on content. Like new character capture and maybe NPCS. Its be more feature wise that is complete. Will most likely not see Alignment feature Nulgath wanted to do for example.

Now if this game goes to a mobile version. We may see new content and features added to showcase the mobile version update. How extensive it update would be is unknown at the time but for mobile purposes the game wouldn't be consider finish.

Elite Tuga -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 155 - Read the first post! (8/6/2015 16:12:47)

Hi community & friends,

Just wanted to stop by and say hi as well as state my views/opinions on this current situation (MAYBE for the last time here, depending on what the future holds for OS without Nulgath after his evacuation). So please take 5 minutes to read.

The sad and expected..

This situation is obviously really upsetting (Nulgath leaving OS & AE), no-one was ever expecting this to occur (at least not at this time) as he is loved immensely around the whole of AE & was delivering exceptional animations content to our game(s) for over a decade. We were dreading to see OS completely lead-less (animating and coding perspective) but TBH we all knew that OS was going to come down to this profound struggle/pit stop, sooner or later as we only had Nulgath keeping the game some-what alive (which would eventually end catastrophically as 1 talented man is not enough to hold a business by themselves), so it's not a big surprise in how things have turned out, unfortunately.

SO this means OS is dead, right?

Yes currently, as hard as it sounds in my honest understanding by what I/others have read/written lately above and beyond. Artix and Nulgath may post to our HP/DN sometime soon and tell us exactly what will happen next. Keeping in mind with a very low % that this lack of Staff issue is only temporarily (hopefully), until we get someone else awesome enough to replace Nulgath and a voluntary/part-time Coder as well (for OS content implementation). What gives us the right to still have a very low chance of belief is that OS may still resume without Nulgath as he responded to one of our most loyal players the following: "OS will continue. I'm not sure who will be updating it though".

That said, We will just have to wait and see if really OS manages somehow in living on without Nulgath, it's all on Artix Krieger now to help & get someone to support/update our game. It's also been stated as said above, that if Nulgath ever returns in the future he is still under the name of Nulgath (which means he can resume where he last left off, I.e AQW/3D and OS ect). If it's true (said by GT), that REV will return in the nearby future then who knows, maybe Nulgath might do so as well. Conclusion to the question: Yes, OS is dead currently BUT maybe for a short period of time only, until we get voluntary Staff replacements or if Nulgath ever returns (like Schwarzenegger in the Terminator movies).

What can we do for now around here to maintain life, until things get better (if it ever does)?

We wonderful new and old players can still continue to come over here for 2 simple good and loyal reasons despite the current issues, IF we are strong enough, mentality wise.

First Reason: OS Forum Tournaments/Challenges

Kiyone, Axel and other loyal & helpful Forum OS Staff could help set up a tournament of a specific element(s) or character requirement type(s) every couple weeks/months to keep and maintain OS some-what alive (community competition perspective at least). If this was done we would always have players come-by from time to time to re-unite and get competitive with players/friends and fight for 'Forum Hall of Fame' as we have been doing before.

Second Reason: Just to simply socialise with friends (some friends are forever, we should never let that bond die-out, when you know people for many years) and also check out for any news/changes in-game, simultaneously.

That's basically it. We should continue to live our lives but always keep an eye out here (expecting for change) and hope that Nulgath returns someday but hopefully have someone else in his replacement, meanwhile. Also we shouldn't stop contacting each-other from time to time, as the community is truly all we have left ATM. As long as we are here AE Staff may always re-consider taking a few positive actions (like give us monthly content at least for us most loyal players). So we shouldn't leave until all is guaranteed 100% lost after Nulgath's AE exit.

What I and many Nulgath fans truly wish would happen if OS is confirmed to be really over in development?

That AE makes an identical or something different but similar to Over Soul for 'Both' Mobile and Web-browser platforms. I honestly don't know any games exactly like OS (with awesome MMORPG characters and a Card-Based Battle Game) and there are millions of games out there. This surely would be a success of a game if done right and if made available for Web &/or Mobile.

What I will do:

I will soon be busy in real life, I want to get myself involved in the 'Security Industry' sector and will be playing less on all my games. I will try be around from time to time, IF we get character releases (or Tournaments at the least) with/without Nulgath returning to OS. Depends what will happen next that will determine if I will or won't leave OS. In-case OS is officially announced 'OVER with NO possible content implementations and NO Staff recruited for replacement', then it's a truly sad 'Farewell & Good-Luck' from Elite Tuga.

Good-Luck & Farewell
To those who have decided in leaving our small community, it was fun to have played/spoken with you guys. To those who will stay 'till the bitter end' or at least until we get a final 100% clarification on our Over Soul HP/DN from Artix and Nulgath themselves as promised, I take my hat off (if I had one on) to you guys as 'true loyalty' is your definition.

God-Bless!

We're supposed to get a letter today.. Let's see if it arrives.

Gorillo Titan -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 155 - Read the first post! (8/7/2015 21:33:25)

Who said that?

Kiyone -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 155 - Read the first post! (8/7/2015 21:50:16)

Can you link or quote the source of the info your bringing up Nigraz. I'm assuming one of the news letters but haven't heard anything about this yet.
