Rorshach -> =AQ Suggestions Guide (Lite) V2= (8/8/2015 13:13:05)

Ello Forumies. As you all (veterans) are well aware, the =KoO= Guide of Suggesting: Balance, Innovation, Creation is very much outdated. This revamped guide is long over-due, and hence I've created this to replace it.

This is still under the 'beta' stage, and the planned release is 14th August. So if you have any sorta ideas on how this can be improved, do leave comments here while you can. I accept no spam and non-constructive comments. Hence, will duly remove them if I do deem them as such.

All other forum rules applies. Thanks for reading!

Guide is live as of 16-08-2015.

A Short Guide to Suggesting Suggestions

[1] Introduction
~ A. Welcome
~ B. Types of Suggestions
~ C. IMPORTANT, TAKE NOTE

[2] Suggestion Templates (Non-Detailed)

[3] Suggestion Templates (Detailed)

[1] Introduction

  • A.
Welcome to the AQ Suggestions. If you're here, you're here to contribute to the AQ game with an idea of yours that will help. With this short guide, we hope that it will assist you - if you are new to this - with steps to suggest; as well as ensuring that you follow the rules.

  • B.
There a couple of suggestions type that have came up over the years. Your suggestion(s) may fall into any of these categories, and you should take note of what they are, and how to go about them.

    quote:

    (i) Game Quality-of-Life
-- This includes things such as making things easier to navigate. Such examples are: finding shop buttons; having an distinct list of buttons to separate an array of information; making a direction button bigger or smaller; GUI; etc.

    (ii) Game Content
-- This is possibly the biggest category as it includes: Armours, Weapons, Shields, Spells, Pets, Miscs, Quests, Shops, Houses, etc.

Basically, anything that gives something to the player.

    (iii) Out-of-Game Stuff
-- This is a rather general one, as it will include stuff that isn't for the game itself or doesn't fall into any of the other categories, but is still somewhat related to AQ. It may include: AQ Z-Token purchase system; Guardian Upgrade System; Homepage; etc.

  • C.
Take note that even if your suggestion(s) does not belong to any of these categories, don't fret. Just post it so that we can look at it - only after you have also read the FSI RULES - CLICK HERE TO READ THEM NOW.

    [2] Suggestion Templates (Non-Detailed)

This small and short list should assist you on getting started to creating your suggestions, should you not want to get into the nuts and bolts of items. The key thing here is your wording, grammar and vocabulary. Don't worry about items being balanced or not, because you won't be throwing in numbers to balance them when they have been released into the game.

Being descriptive is the main focus and selling point here in getting your ideas across to users; while being vague would lead your suggestions ending up being left alone...

    (i) "Game Lifestyle" & "Out-of-Game Stuff" Template
  • You may use this as an example to suggest anything falling under this category of suggestions - I'm using a past example that got implemented.

    quote:

Issue / Problem: Ballyhoo's rewards are very messy and disorganized; this makes it very difficult to navigate through the shops for the rewards that I wish to get
Suggestion to fix/improve it: Organize it into their respective rewards and in an array-list style so that it would be easier to navigate and find what we're looking for.

    (ii) "Game Content" Template
  • This is a general template that should help those of you who wish to get into suggesting, and also with this formatting, allows your ideas to be brought across simpler and much easier for readers to understand. Not to mention, being more organized as well. You do want your suggestions to be read, right?

    quote:

  • ===Quests===
I am leaving the template for Quests open ended, since it will contain a story and possibly rewards. However, it would be very much appreciated if you could follow a template such as these --- CLICK HERE --- taken directly from the Pedia entries.

    [3] Suggestion Templates (Detailed)

I myself do not have such deep understanding of all those mathematical formula and balance-sheets that goes behind how each and every item works in AQ. However, if you're really good at it, you may use the following examples that illustrate how you may wish to bring your ideas across. These are of course, taken directly from the Pedia Entries themselves, as they are the best examples to follow.

    Weapons:
    High Communicant's Grandeur

    Armours:
    High Communicant's Zeal
    Abyssal Salvation Armor Z VI
    Abandoned Sneak Suit

    Shields:
    High Communicant's Valiance

    Pets:
    Acolyte's Word

    Miscs:
    10th Anniversary T-Shirt

If you still do wish to get the numbers up and running. I believe you may refer to this link ( CLICK ME ) where fellow AK Dragoon23 has compiled a list. I know not of the numbers on balance myself, but I've dug far into this to confidently say you'd be alright to start from these spreadsheets.

We hope this guide has been informative for you, and may you suggest a good one that will be implemented into the game.

  • 13/08/2015
    - Corrected one spelling error
    - Formatted a few paragraphs
    - Coloured a few headlines to be more distinct
    - Added a QUEST Template (sorta) with link for example from pedia entry (Frostval 2014)
    - Added in a link for Detailed Template guide, thanks for MW for pushing it, though I'm not 100% sure it will be helpful for those already familiar with it

  • 16/8/2015
    - Guide launched and renamed.
    - Guide is open to constructive suggestions on improvement and development from public; but still according to rules and what-not.

  • Mystical Warrior -> RE: Suggestions Guide Version 2 (BETA) (8/10/2015 10:34:36)

@GASKAL I think it would be nice if you could ask one of the staff members if they can provide/share a spreadsheet they use when assigning the stats of weapons/armors/shield. I remember one being shared before, where it has something like a point system to know whether the weapon/armor/shield is starting get OP or is still underpowered

Rorshach -> RE: Suggestions Guide Version 2 (BETA) (8/10/2015 21:32:50)

    Hey MW, thanks for input.

Yes, I did consider the thought of adding in spreadsheet numbers and balance-stuff in here. However, I did not because my goal for this guide was focused towards those who are new to this section of the forums, and wanted a quick go-to-guide instead of the number crunching and three-thousand-words (figuratively) guide in the original one.

This is my thought process on how a new forumite who enters here, would go through.

    1. Enters AQ Sugg ---> Does not know anything about Sugg methods ---> Reads quick guide ---> Follows quick-template ---> Post
    2. Enters AQ Sugg ---> Does not know anything about Sugg methods ---> Knows about balance and number-crunching maths ---> Reads quick guide ---> Goes to links that provides spreadsheets and short template example ---> Post.

Here as you can see, are the 2 prime examples of my focus group. In '1', it describes how forumites who just want to do a quick-dump on an idea or suggestion, would only require the minimum details on suggesting. After reading the guide, they can just copy-and-paste the template, edit the parameters of each, and post quickly without having to think of balancing their ideas.

In '2' however, forumites who are more experienced in AQ's balance spreadsheets and the like, would be more inclined to go into details of their ideas. However, to keep simplicity as the core of this guide, any extremely long details on what to do and how to go about balancing an idea would not be included here. Instead, a brief description on it should look like from the result of their suggestion is given, as well as possibly a direction to where they may find updated spreadsheets that go along with it (this part I have yet to add, which I will soon).

Tropix -> RE: Suggestions Guide Version 2 (BETA) (9/5/2019 6:33:45)

The skill Arcane Amplification from the Generalist's Robe (https://forums2.battleon.com/f/tm.asp?m=2811140) doesn't display the number of stored charges. This seems like an graphical oversight, and I'd love to see this get added.

Tropix -> RE: Suggestions Guide Version 2 (BETA) (9/5/2019 19:45:35)

Instead of a black and white question mark symbol for burst/compression (multiple types) spells, it'd be nice to have a diagonal-split of the two elements instead. For example, for the spell Destruction Burst, it'd be nice for half of the spell icon to be the Darkness-type symbol, and the other half to be the Fire-type symbol. This would allow players to more easily identify and differentiate between spells during battle, especially compared to when all eight of them are a black question mark inside of a white box.
