Christophoses -> The Mysterious Stranger (12/30/2015 1:54:49)

I just wanted to ask how everyone thinks this iconic villain should be introduced into AQ3D, if he ever gets introduced at all, and how big his role should be / how much influence should he have on the story.

megakyle777 -> RE: The Mysterious Stranger (12/30/2015 1:58:10)

Honestly, while I think it's about time for his return, I don't think he should be in AQ3D. I mean I love him as a villain, but he sort of overshadows everything he's in. Let's have whoever AQ3D's main villain shine first for a bit anyway, then maybe introduce him later as he originaly was in DF: That one creepy shadowy guy who offers you a cool and powerful weapon for some gold...

Trancendus -> RE: The Mysterious Stranger (12/30/2015 9:46:48)

Yeah..Creepy Merchant MS>Overly OP Cliche Villain MS

Anvos -> RE: The Mysterious Stranger (12/30/2015 11:12:37)

Well considering Grimsbane used shadow creatures against the guardians and since this is AQ reboot it seems possible were working off an Erebus replaced Shadow Scythe emperor timeline, but then again mysterious strangers/necromancers is also a group of people. Though since we have yet to know how we diverged from df but don't end up in Devourer saga there is something that has changed meaning either Shadow Scythe emperor or Erebus could well be destroyed.

lightriftwalker122 -> RE: The Mysterious Stranger (12/30/2015 11:23:07)

I hope the Mysterious Stranger appears and has a very large role in AQ3d and its Storyline .

Rlogg -> RE: The Mysterious Stranger (12/31/2015 3:48:44)

s already had a major role in df and iwas kinda hoping that newer villians would get achance

Is it? I haven't played AQ3D for a while, but from everything I've seen, it felt more like AQW 2.

LyRein -> RE: The Mysterious Stranger (12/31/2015 16:04:24)

@above

yes they said themselves, but it DOES feel like AQW3D, even the combat is nothing like AQ. hopefully the story will be more DF than AQW though

speedmeteor101 -> RE: The Mysterious Stranger (12/31/2015 17:34:58)

AE has hinted that they've always wanted the game to feel like DF especially and AQc (which I support). The 2013 AQ3D did a great job of this as there were not mobile limitations; They had full sets of armor ready, they were preparing a 10 skill combat system [though they only had the 5 we have now], they had plants everywhere, moving grass, giant areas with an abundace of trees and other environmental things to make the game feel more real, better graphics and more (but the art improved in this version due to the worse graphics to compensate). You could probably look up a video to see what I mean. It felt like a 3D DF which was good. AlsoI feel like aq3d could be a little more scenic..... i kinda support them using 2D art in the background... I'd kinda like to see them use it for more than just a layer of trees. I think both aqw and DF did a good job with backgrounds (including the sky) and I think it could be done a good bit like the other games so it looks nicer.

Now they've decided to throw in the low-end mobile devices and their graphic capabilities kinda went down so they are left to using 100% art (-metallic weapons/armor) to create these visual effects which is like a downgrade and upgrade at the same time. Not necessarily a clone of aqw, but it still feels less like DF, maybe by choice of color and location, and Idunno, the sparcity of trees make it feel less like a 'medieval' forest, for example. A bunch of small things like that add up to take away from the ambient feel good games have (though doomwood starts to make up for that and the game still doesn't feel [ibad).

Next, for the mercy of thumbs they've decided to only allow for 5 skills as a smaller mobile screen could get pretty crowded with buttons, which is another downgrade [more like aqw]. More skills w/ complicated system make players happy, but because it is mobile [:(] we just can't. Really that's all. We're hoping they lean on DF for the story and cutscenes (& placement) but that's up for grabs, so nobody knows.

As for all the downgrades (really it's my opinion, i guess) I feel that it all has room to improve and my hope for these categories has resparked thanx to this kickstarter. I'm this is gonna be a great game, I mean, it still is pretty good as it is...

On Mysterious Stranger
I realized that that had nothing to do with the thread, but I was just explaining my pov on the situation from above. So Ima add that personally, I don't want the mysterious stranger to have a big role.... Possibly a few levels or so under the boss, sure. But not a REALly big part. I honestly preferred him as the guy who just sold you doom weaps in DF. I only was fine with him changing out to be the master-mind villain in CH1 of DF because it made the story even better than it was before. In aq3d if he comes back he should just be a mysterious guy givin you some nice weaps or stuff like that.

Christophoses -> RE: The Mysterious Stranger (1/2/2016 16:18:44)

I'm hoping that AQ3D is like a 2.0 version of DF and AQW. In my opinion, DF has the best story out of any AE game, so it would be nice if they could expand off of that. AQ (original) is a good game, but there's something about the story that doesen't make it as good as DF or AQW.

While I think that new heroes and villains should be introduced I also think that some of the classics, like Sepulchure and MS, should return. Their story has been built perfectly in the past games that it would be a waste not to include them in AQ3D. However, they should not be killed off like in previous games. Sepulchure was the definition of DF for me. Why he only stayed around for book 1 was something that I still don't understand to this date. What was worse was his involvement in AQW. He barely made it through the beginning of the story. Another main villain could also be the Primordial. We know that the Mysterious Stranger serves it, so there is potential for it to be a force of great evil.

Someone who I strongly don't think should be included in this game is Drakath. He's had his time to shine in previous games and his role in AQ3D would be the same as in every other game: a psychopathic child who thinks the world belongs to him. We don't need to see the same person try and reach the same goal that he's, unsuccessfully, been working on for 2 timelines. He needs to be given a proper death at the end of AQW, and that's that.

LyRein -> RE: The Mysterious Stranger (1/2/2016 17:17:17)

@above

you're such a hypocrite lol

yet sepulchure is just that, a twisted knight with evil powers who thinks the world belongs under him.

Christophoses -> RE: The Mysterious Stranger (1/2/2016 19:24:13)

@above

Sepulchure had a reason for originally accepting the Doom Knight armor. It was to protect Lynaria, however, he was later corrupted by its power. Drakath is just an idiot prince who thought the world belonged to him. He' is even willing to kill his own mother to get his power back and reclaim what is "rightfully his". That's some next level of messed up. Also, when I was referring to "they", I meant Sepulchure and the Mysterious Stranger.

Faerdin -> RE: The Mysterious Stranger (1/3/2016 2:30:11)

Sepulchure is the archetypal "fallen angel," a noble man descended from grace and made a monster by his mortal flaws.

In any case, I am ambivalent on the Mysterious Stranger. I love the character, but I am reluctant to advocate for his appearance in AQ3D since I can't really imagine better than the way he was used in DragonFable -- and it would hardly be a surprise to anyone anymore. Maybe return for a cameo as a rare item vendor, but as a pivotal character? I can't really agree with that wholeheartedly.

It would be fine if they just had a "Low (recommended for Mobile)" and "High (recommended for PC)" selection for the graphics, that way they could make the game in High and make moving objects static / graphics lower grade / etc on Low.

speedmeteor101 -> RE: The Mysterious Stranger (1/3/2016 3:08:44)

Yeah, this idea was brought up to them multiple times before, but i think i remember when i asked, that maybe Korin, Artix, and/ or Cysero told me that it's like a lot of excessive work and not very high on their priorities. I think this is mostly because the whole game runs on 1 engine, and to make have a kind of game like this with different resolutions/graphics settings (it could work a lot of ways, I'm sure, depending on how creative you get) but it would either require more code, more server money, more [a lot] so basically, it's not worth it, like the dev said. Maybe if they planned it from the start it could've been possible but now it's out the window.

But it's not bad as it is. In my opinion, all that really happened was that the art got better as the graphics got worse. It still sort makes up for itself and i think it'll do okay. So basically, they don't have the same freedom they had in their other games for different graphics levels )to my knowledge, but who knows what the kickstarter did :P).

LyRein -> RE: The Mysterious Stranger (1/3/2016 8:58:26)

@Christophisis

And again Drakath wanted to avenge his father who was killed in front of him by the man who later exiled him.
But his "mother" gave him powers that later corrupted him into a freak of nature.

TBH if your mother was an out-of-universe being on the level perhaps stronger than the God of the multiverse and looked like Ursula, used you from the start and planned to abandon you in another realm, is causing destruction on the planet you were born in, what would you do in his place?

Sneak into the night, numb her by pouring wine from the Chalice of Shadow into her mouth, cut off her ring finger, plant the finger in the divine soil, and wait as her body withered to dust and the finger grew into a Flower Nymph that I would then marry.

... What? Drakath is totes a Greek Hero like that. :P

David the Wanderer -> RE: The Mysterious Stranger (1/3/2016 10:03:27)

Honestly, I'd rather AQ3D use villains from other games only as backstory. In fact, apart from staff characters, I'd like for AQ3D to use completely new characters as much as possible, rather than reusing what other games did. I'm fine with mentions of Akriloth, Erebus, the MS, Sepulchure, Drakath and anybody else you can name. I'd even be ok with showing them once or twice, but I'd rather AQ3D stand on its own.

LyRein -> RE: The Mysterious Stranger (1/3/2016 11:12:32)

@above

would be better if MS stayed as a guy who sold you random doomknight stuff at random times like Xur from Destiny.

Seppy can be backstory
Drakath (if he dies) and 13 Lords of Chaos can be backstory (they did a nice Loremaster thing in the Chaos Finale for the 13 "Heroes" who sealed MoM) in AQW can be backstory
Alteon can be backstory
Elemental Dragons and Deseloth can be backstory
MoM can be backstory
The Rose can be backstory
Xan i'm not really sure of...

that's a lot of great Lore to build up from AE!

honestly it'd be more interesting if the start of the story was finding the new suitable King for Swordhaven.
with robina vs brentan vs a few other candidates.

speedmeteor101 -> RE: The Mysterious Stranger (1/3/2016 11:22:34)

Same thoughts as @David the Wanderer

I have to admit, I was a lot more excited for AQ3D when there were new, larger, amazing areas like Ravenspire, Northpointe (there were 2 dungeons the for the record), and then all those areas in the flythrough....

I know Battleon was a great moment for Artix, as a creator, but personally I think we should start to move out of these older places and develop a completely new world outside of the main favorites that may be coming back like (battleon, doomwood, darkovia, greenguard) so I think AQ3D should share all the things that aqw and DF shared which wasn't much.

And @LyRein

Really anything from a previous game that most people don't want to see come back is fair game for backstory. The plot, as it goes right now, is still unknown (though we do know Artix has just started writing it) But I think the plot will choose the backstories rather than the other way around :P

But I do think the points you chose could be used to make a great story :)

And by now, I'm pretty sure it's established that the MS should only sell stuff and have no plot significance (as far as what's germane to the thread itself)

LyRein -> RE: The Mysterious Stranger (1/3/2016 11:27:55)

@above

agreed.
DF explores Dragonia's head
AQW explores the bottom parts
AQ3D should explore the remaining parts.

Rezilia -> RE: The Mysterious Stranger (1/3/2016 16:59:06)

Dragonia? You mean the main continent?

AQ and AQW cover the southeastern part of the continent. DF (Book 1) covers the northern part of the continent. The only part of the continent we really don't know about is the western part, which is most likely the location of all those ancient civilizations that AQ mentions.

Anvos -> RE: The Mysterious Stranger (1/3/2016 17:45:19)

Actually if you compare the chapter 3 map of DF to AQW's map it is quite obvious as I've been trying to say that AQW's is not the same LORE as AQ and DF, thus AQW's story is not integral to the world of AQ, DF, and since AQ3D starts with founding of modern Battleon not it either.

LyRein -> RE: The Mysterious Stranger (1/3/2016 18:03:56)

@above

compared for you

they're the same continent? are you judging it by the angle/shape? because that's just how the map looks.. lol..

also modern battleon is the same battleon just updated art...
you seem to really hate anything that isn't DF/AQ

Anvos -> RE: The Mysterious Stranger (1/3/2016 18:48:42)

Shape of the continent maybe but zoom in on Greenguard and you will see both Oaklore and the Sandsea for example are in entirely different parts of the continent in AQWs than they are in the AQ/DF and there is the whole Yoki and Shon'Nuff Islands both different in shape mind you occupy the same space if you compare the maps.

The MQ hourglass/timelineglass altered lore from AQ and DF's version its not really hatred of AQW but recognition it is its own thing unrelated to the other games outside crossover events and some similarities of characters and world themes. This is logical why it happened as well since LORE's nature is a composite of multiple prereset planets so putting some prereset stuff back in the mix should change things as they did.
