@OWA There're only 10-11 2D games that have a payer base above 1 million while on mobile you can see hundreds if not thousands of 2D games that have a player base above 1 million. So, my point of view was actually, right.

leahnrachel -> RE: matchmaking (7/9/2016 11:48:12)

God I'm 275 xp from 40 , I want to hit 40 so bad , But I'm literally terrified of clicking that 2v2 button or 1v1 button. The horrors I will find , Its literally a scary thought , Is this the game they wanted I wonder...

One Winged Angel1357 -> RE: matchmaking (7/9/2016 12:17:48)

@norwas please provide data to back up your point because so far you've just made a statement with zero evidence.

Also just throwing me to the app store won't due because there is a very important difference you can see on steamspy that you can't on the app store and that is owners vs players as well as the average play time the user. A million downloads does not equal a million players in game because that count is a million people who have installed the game and still play it, played it for awhile, tried it out and installed it, or never played it at all.

leahnrachel -> RE: matchmaking (7/9/2016 13:58:21)

Look its pretty simple what they need to do is check peoples activity before they hit l36, Then check how active they are after they hit 36, I honestly believe the results will be undeniable ..... And what they have to do is obvious .

One Winged Angel1357 -> RE: matchmaking (7/9/2016 14:58:33)

No one is arguing that point Rachel. A lot of people here have voiced in favor of changing ranks in some form which agrees with your statement of once you start facing players with ranks abandonment seems to increase.

The point currently being discussed is would steam or mobile best help increase player retention vs total player count. Because if EpicDuel had it's own total user count like the download count on mobile you'd probably see high levels of abandonment due to the lifespan of the game, change in player preference, and disagreement with where the development of the game has gone.

Player retention is a key factor in fast match making

leahnrachel -> RE: matchmaking (7/9/2016 15:11:23)

Player retention isn't going to improve on steam or mobile without them making so many changes to the way they do things it wouldn't be epicduel anymore, hell i'd say they'd need to get rid of the current staff and get new in , They've shown a major inflexibility and inability to learn from their mistakes.

And even if they did this just the title epicduel would be damaging to any attempt of a game on another platform given the reputation associated with the two words "epic duel".

I still think the only hope this game has is them trying to redeem their reputation before moving to another platform.

Or starting a entirely different game on another platform.

One Winged Angel1357 -> RE: matchmaking (7/9/2016 18:01:49)

Take the entire thread as one single conversation instead of coming into one point and you'll see an interesting picture. The picture that has been painted in the last ten-ish posts is of a PvP game that uses skill based match making instead of level based match making and it is either a mobile app or a steam game. We seem to have left the discussion of this EpicDuel behind in favor of a new game or a complete overhaul of existing systems

leahnrachel -> RE: matchmaking (7/9/2016 18:15:58)

^ I've spent so much money on this game in the past god I don't even know how much but this is no exaggeration , EASILY $5000 + probably $10,000 + , I was always a harsh critic of the p2w system and other mistakes.... But I kept giving them money I supported this game till the end?

Whats my point , The end was when they introduced legend ranks they proved beyond doubt to me for the last time they had no experience dealing with a pvp game and balance.... And as such my money stopped going their way , Was interesting to see the releases stopped coming quite soon after [:)]

They lost my confidence as it seems they did with many others.... The thing I am trying to get across they have proven they are untrustworthy and not very competent or reliable to ALOT of people.

I don't think its just me .... I think them venturing into another pvp game is a mistake , I think they need to shift away from it entirely , shift away from ED start a new game, Get some refresher training in their chosen fields.... And keep their names away from any game they may release in future and they may have a chance of success.

This is not a attack , I loved ED once I actually thought they wouldn't keep making the same mistakes , But now ED and the associated developers - titan , nightwraith , charfade their names are muck all over the internet, The way things go these days with launching games something like their names attatched to it could destroy confidence from the gaming community and its chances of success ..... Which is why I keep reiterating they MUST repair their reputation before anything else.

One Winged Angel1357 -> RE: matchmaking (7/9/2016 18:28:54)

You do understand in the video game industry you fix your reputation by continuing to make games and showing a notable difference to your previous works? You also understand that legendary ranks is the developers listening to what the community wanted at the time of release.

The best way to address the situation is create a PvP in which you playing longer than someone else no longer puts you at an advantage regardless of skill. This level based system is something you've been able to watch fade from favor over the course of EpicDuel's life. There is a reason Call of Duty gets blasted every time they bring back the experience system to gun unlocks. Games have switched over to supporting skill and high level play instead of just a mindless investment and unless you are in the mobile scene they also no longer support buying your way to the top.

leahnrachel -> RE: matchmaking (7/9/2016 18:35:46)

I'll keep this one short

Enhancements bad - Why? - money bought power not skill

Ranks bad- Why - time bought power not skill , Actually kind of worse because not everyone has access to the same amount of time , Which starts to create the same balance problems the enhancements did.

It was the developers responsibility to see this , And not implement it , And people (me) for one was warning them this would happen ....... before they implemented it , And it has happened.

Making exactly the same mistake twice , And what made it worse the entire point of omega was rectifying that very mistake.

Could you direct me to a thread where we asked for the exact ranking system that me have now?

The removal of enhancements is what made people quit. So, please, get your facts straight. Enhancements were all alright so is the ranking system but, the ranking system shouldn't have been implemented in Omega because the player base of the game is now low and this system wouldn't really work on a low player base.
Another mistake was the underdog mode. The underdog mode doesn't really give low ranked players (ranks 1 - 23) too much stats to counter high ranked players but, it gives rank 24-79 players too much stats making it unfair against rank 80 players which means underdog mode needs a complete revamp.
Underdog mode shall work the way I said in the past. It shall give the lower ranked person 50% of what the higher ranked person has of perks that the lower ranked person doesn't have. Well, underdog mode shall be renamed in this case to Legendary Underdog mode and each 40 ranks shall now count as one E-Level shall. While the basic underdog mode (the one we have) shall also, be used but, only when there's a difference between their levels, not their ranks.

Like for example:

A level 40 rank 10 is fighting a level 40 rank 20. The rank 20 is putting his points on both defense and resistance while the rank 10 has his points invested only on defense. LUM (Legendary underdog mode) would give him 5 resistance points and that's it.

A level 29 fighting a level 30. The level 29 gets the basic underdog mode (+1 str/dex/tech/sup).

A level 40 rank 10 is fighting a level 39. The 40 has his points invested on defense.
The level 39 gets both of the LUM and UM. That means he would get 5 defense points and +1 str/dex/tech/sup.

A level 40 rank 80 is fighting a rank 1 40. The rank one gets 50% of all legendary stats and gets Underdog mode II. (+1 str/sup +2 dex/tech).

A level 40 rank 80 is fighting a level 38. The level 38 gets 50% of the legendary points the 80 has and gets underdog mode IV. (+2 str/sup +3 dex/tech).

One Winged Angel1357 -> RE: matchmaking (7/9/2016 21:53:24)

@Cyber one direct thread no but the legendary system was born of people wanting continuously higher level caps, which are not supported by the game. So ranks were the solution and the power given by ranks were an admitted lack of foresight into how they would impact the game as noted by the introduction of eLvls.

Lord Machaar -> RE: matchmaking (7/9/2016 22:27:13)

^ The players didn't explicitly suggest the legendary system, with it giving PVP advantage and all. Sure players wanted to do something after Level Cap, especially those with a lot of free time. But devs could have replied to that with giving them something to do, like legendary shops, which were presented really late in-game. You could motivate players to open shops by earning ranks without giving them direct PVP advantage, that can be earned by botting NPCs, which contradicts with the sole reason of implementing the legendary system.

Hardcore missions, long-lasting features, legendary bosses, Wars, improving factions etc...etc... Many options were there to entertain players after level cap without totally screwing the game's balance. They might require some attention from the devs but that's how you give some quality features. The legendary system however was implemented and left with wolves.

Won't lie, the legendary system is great on the short term. But on the long term, with 1 balancer, and a half-sleeping moderation team, players tend to abuse loopholes resulting in catastrophies.

Altador987 -> RE: matchmaking (7/9/2016 22:55:00)

Going off of Machaar, frankly they could've added minigames/certain missions that were worthwhile meant only for higher lvl players. Maybe ways to get extra varium/credits here and there to help pay for the expensive rank skills. Maybe a bot spinoff where at rank 40 you can start customizing how the bot itself works (maybe it could add buffs or add power to itself but small buffs nothing super game changing) tbh the game itself should have no problems at all. Assuming balance was found the game is self-serving and self-functioning, all there was really needed was some creativity.
