Welcome to Paxia. REBORN.

Well, not really. Not YET. However, I do kinda have plans for Paxia. Big plans? Ehhh, not yet as I'm just working on shorter stuff, BUT that's kinda why this thread is here.

First off: Paxia is back home, in the AQ forums area! Hopefully this will start some sort of re-ignition of the area, or at least bring those that went to other forums to start trickling back

Second: Paxia is back to how it should be! You got clan ideas/threads, go ahead and post them! The Moogle will make sure if there's any rule violations y'all know

Third: Have anything specific you want to see in Paxia, forums or in-game? This is probably a good place to let me know!

Anyways, have fun, get creative, and please, let's try to revive Paxia more permently this time. I know we've tried in the past, but I got a feeling this time will be the one that does it!

Not sure I can say anything wise right now about the clans. I like them though.

Maybe some clan based houses.

Invite clan leaders as a guest(temp call/summon spell)

People probably want wars, buuut the bird clan is with most players sooo... but could be a Timed war to save Paxia?

I also think it maybe could be interesting to see the Moogle Npc there?

I know we are all about fire and stuff... but our lair is pretty dull...

We could use a hot-spring and some plants... Volcanic earth it's good to grow in.

First of all, really great to see a revival of Paxia on the horizon, even if it's not a massive scale project (yet!). Second of all, Igneus shall rise from the ashes!

I'd second @Yozai in that I'd love to see some call/summon spells for the paxian leaders. Potentially a spell to invoke paxian leaders for damage based on the clan you've chosen as well. More clan trigger items in general though are welcome given the circumstances! I'll be sure to think of some suggestions to put into the suggestion forum for something more specific.

I think it would be cool to have mastercraft sets for your clan. or like have damage of that element boosted for you.

So...when do we get the Capt. to boot all characters from the clans so we can get an accurate tally of active members of each clan? xD Maybe have it so your character gets auto kicked from the clan if you don't log in for say, 3 months too.

As for restoring activity in Paxia. I would like to see a competition between the clans in-game, similar to the PUC here (although it would probably have to be more simple than the map and attacking territories thing the PUC does), have the meters reset at the end of each month, and the winners get a small bonus. No items, as 1) that would add extra work for the staff to come up with a new item each month and 2) would only encourage players to switch to the winning clan, making it more difficult for the other clans to win. Maybe the winning clan could get a +5 or +10% damage boost against monsters of their clans opposing element...i.e If Aerodu won, they would get the boost against Earth monsters.

What about Elemental damage reduction?

10 total of upgrade quest, each successful quest provide you with -2% incoming damage reduction (reduction like Blood Ruby misc) of your Clan element, while at the same increase the damage done to you by the same number% from the opposite element.

If you're leaving the Clan, you have to redo the quest from scratch to get the bonus. (if you're rejoin)

This could probably be pretty neat, provided it doesn't turn into basically the two clans of Aerodu and Igneus doing everything. Auto-kicking might help to reset, but I think a lot of the active forum people these days (i.e. the ones who are going to crush any competition) are in one of those two for one reason or another and probably aren't going to change unless they have a compelling reason to do so.

I'd like more Effect based items for each clan kinda like how the Morphin Golem Ranger was. It makes the items unique tbh.

Also, more smaller wars and competitions where the winning clan gets stronger items like the Gong of the Wind.

AWESOME!!! I've been waiting for something like this for so long, it's probably the most exciting thing I've heard for AQ in years, no joke! Thank you so much, Pie, for doing this for us!

I do hope there's not a lot of competition between clans, especially since we chose unity all those years ago. And like High Paladin said, there are two or three top clans that would dominate pretty much any event anyway. But class-related quests and possible items are going to be awesome! Plus, with the success of the subrace updates, we might even get to see some actual clan classes or subraces in the future.

I'm very glad these forums are back, I used to participate a ton in the Paxia forums back in its hey day and was even on the Nocturu council at one point.

My advice for Paxia in general is to flesh it out in terms of character. People don't feel any sort of loyalty or resonance with elements, they feel that way towards characters or personality traits, something that is relatable and interesting. The first three clans had elements of that, with Aerodu being aggressive, Nautica being scholarly, and Geoto being....uh...something. I want more of that for the other clans, and a reason/ideology explaining why they want the McGuffin, in this case control of Paxia. Why do they want control, and if they were in control how would that affect Paxia and the other clans? What are the stakes in this conflict? Would the clans be wiped out if one side won, or would they be controlled in some other way? Those are the questions that need to be explained for people to really bond to their clans and stick with one, along with the community aspects. Furthermore, they need to be included in the game itself, whether through an updated "Explore Paxia" quest or just through updated clan headquarters. I know clan members can make up stories themselves, but for this to be really effective people need to know what they are fighting for and that goal be reflected in the game itself.

As for the community aspects, the best thing I can suggest is to make the community stuff affect the real game. Even knowing how far ahead content is scheduled in advance, there has to be some way to get Paxia daily, weekly or at least monthly content either in the forums or in game. I think the forums are the best bet, and maybe having the Paxia Wars game that people were playing on the forum previously be relevant is an interesting answer. A couple options include having the winner of Paxia wars get some advantage in the next Paxia content, or an exclusive item for their clan. Maybe have a daily quest for each clan that when you complete it adds extra mobs to a clan war with a clearly defined start date (so people know how long they have to prepare). Having the forum influence the game is the most effective way of getting the forum back off the ground, because like the characterization it creates a reason to participate.

Finally, Unity needs to go. In my mind, that was the worst possible route Paxia could have went story wise, and singlehandedly ruined my enthusiasm for the clan system. Why make an eight way conflict where people feel loyalty towards a specific clan if the only way for a good story ending is if you abandon your clan and fight with the collective? Why should I bother if I have no say on which side wins since the story dictated that Unity was the only way to prevent being uncreated? If there is one common thread with my suggestions, it is that there needs to be a reason to participate, through emotional resonance, clan loyalty and through other clan members. Don't undercut that by casting people as chaotic and evil for not joining a collective effort in a clan system. Please.

Big Guy: I definitely agree, we need to see more clan character personality fleshed out, possibly by having the clan leaders featured in more quests. I do think that there are elements of what you're talking about already, though. Most notably back in the Paxia Truphma wars, where we saw how all of the clans reacted to Xov. Now admittedly, I was VERY upset with the way Eukara chose to portray Nautica as a bunch of loser wimps with an incompetent leader with his head stuck in the sand, but then again to be fair it was pretty much based on the type of forum responses she got in the lead up to that war. I wasn't able to give any input, since I was just coming back from a hiatus and missed the war prep.

But I actually think Unity was a great choice back when it came up, and it's been nice to see the clans working together since. That doesn't mean I don't want to see any friendly competition, but to have all-out clan wars again wouldn't make much sense story wise. Also, as people have pointed out, while there are a few very loyal supporters of all the clans, Igneus and Aerodu would completely dominate pretty much every in-game competition, since they have the most members. Wind and Fire are the most popular elements in pop culture today. So just as we saw a massive switch in support from Werewolves to Vampires in the latest War of the Fangs due to Vampires being more popular these days, all the other elements would basically get steamrolled by the two or three most popular elements.

IMO, the best ways to get more participation in the clans and to make your clan choice matter more are:

1: I've said this over and over again, but clan class or subrace armors are something we absolutely must get implemented at some point in the future. We know it can be done, we just need to let the staff know that this is something that AQ players actually want and care about.

2: A clan bonus would be great. Whether that's an increase in damage to the element of your clan, a decrease in damage taken of that element, or even some sort of bonus against monsters of your opposite element.

3: This is probably the most important, and it's something Pie is already working on. But we really, really need more Paxia-themed events in the game. We had the Chessmaster Saga going on at one point, and of course the Truphma Saga featured Paxia prominently. But we definitely need to see some actual in-game content if we want players to actually care about the clans.

4: And finally, if there is to be some sort of competition between clans, we need to find some way to balance it so that the less popular clans can have a chance, since we know that out of eight different clans two or three will always dominate.

Good to see people are alive, it definitely motivates a Moogle. I will take all stuff under advisement.

Also, dont' worry, some sort of competition system IS on the to-do list.... but that's harder to impliment then just a quest so I can't guarentee when that'll get in....

An option to be empowered with your clans element would be cool(Aclass or subrace type armor?) but it would probably necessitate a way to undo it being discovered in game unless you want to just make it a "are you absolutely, positively 100% sure that you want to do this becuase this perma locks the character into the clan" thing.

What would you guys think of a cross-clan RP thread? One where there's a thread in each Clan that's open for any and all Paxians to hang out and chat in-character? I think it would be a fun way to get people interested in the Paxia threads and help develop a stronger connection between the players and their characters' Clans. Individual conversations could take place in any Clan area, and you could have announcements like "Oliver Bell is asking all available Paxians to meet at Geoto's base to discuss the current war" and stuff like that.

Woo hoo I am excited. I think the only way to make paxia permanent is to make less in fighting with the clans but to make each clan have PROJECTS to progressively better permanently like contributions towards paxia unity but everyone (all clans) should have specialties to make for a more united front while everyone retains their own independence for their own clans

I picked a good time to return. Stormwarden, of Clan Lucian, reporting for duty. My advice is to help the players get more involved with the clans. Make it feel like there's something for them to aim for.

Yes we do need some new Paxia game content to make things interesting again.
A complete reset of the Paxia Defense numbers each month would also rejuvenate Paxia. (We will keep asking for this. Please staff. Make it happen.)
