This thread will be your OOC forum for the competitors of the Factory Arena to discuss tactics, collaborations, plots, as well as to ask questions of your fellow combatants and to provide any additional details necessary to clarify your character or your actions. It should also be used for necessary communications with the Director in requesting extensions. As a reminder, you are required to post every 4 days. While I will do my best to provide 24 hour warnings, please do not rely on these. I must be informed in advance if an extension is needed.

Each of the combatants in this arena will be placed at an equidistant starting point. The order in which you are listed in the roster is the relative location you enter the arena in, with the first competitor entering in at the North of the arena and moving clockwise around the edge of the arena. Alternatively, you can view this as the competitor listed above you will be on your right and the competitor listed below you in the roster will enter in on your left. All contestants are assumed to enter roughly at the same time, regardless of posting order.

In addition, I will be editing in any questions that may be useful for all combatants to read. Beginning with:

What are the dimensions of the arena?
Most Paragon Phase arenas share a similar construction when it comes to the dimensions. From the geometric center it is 65 feet (19.8 meters) of terrain until reaching some sort of barrier, a wall or a lethal hazard in most cases. Entrance ways vary by arena in terms of design, but consist of eight equidistant points starting from cardinal North. Were one to connect the entrances with lines, you would inscribe a perfect octagon within the circle of the arena. The rotating gears of the ceiling and floor are 40 feet (12.2 meters) above and below the platform.

But we have fewer than 8 in the arena!
While arenas are designed with a maximum occupancy of eight contestants, we'd rather let people spread out and have more arena variety than to crowd everyone into a single arena. Any locations after the last person on the roster is placed would be considered Vacant, and their entrances would remain closed.

Do the gates out of the arena remain open?
No - upon stepping off the stationary walkway onto the rotational platform, the walkway retracts into the wall and seals the door. This leaves about a gap of about 10 feet (3.1 meters) between the outer edge of the platform and the exterior wall (the dimensions of the arena listed above measure to the edge of the rotating platform). Falling off the edge will result in disqualification and, if you are unlucky enough to collide with the gear system below, potential dismemberment. Should you wait too long to step off the walkway, it will retract automatically.

Can you describe the center pillar?
The center pillar is 5 feet (1.5 meters) in diameter. The spokes sticking out of it are shaped like rectangular beams, about 2 feet (0.6 meters) in length, and positioned as if they were a spiraling staircase.

How fast is this platform actually rotating?
The platform is moving clockwise (from the perspective of the spectators) at a rate of 1 rotation per minute. This means that, at the very outer edge of the platform, you are moving at a speed of 4.6 mph (7.4 km/h). At 30 feet (9.1 meters) from the center, you are moving at a speed of 3.1 mph (5.0 km/h).

On the day of the Championships, wanted posters have been scattered and posted around Bren. They contain a picture of Maled Con, but instead identify him as Ormane Tyde. He’s wanted for thievery, pickpocketing, scamming, defying authority, assault, attempted arson, presumed extortion, fraud, forgery, and the supposed murder of multiple individuals. The bounty for bringing him in is 5000 gold.

Feel free to include or exclude these posters from your intro as you find interesting.

Secondly, because Maled Con’s abilities and hallucinations are a little complicated, I’m reposting the details of the individual senses on this thread for quick reference. I hope it proves helpful to everyone!

The Senses (not individual abilities, but instead a section for details on each sense and their various states):
Sight:
Body Part: eyes/eyelids (either one may be touched to activate curses)
Boosted state: Maled can “zoom” in his vision as if he were using binoculars, and can notice miniscule details.
Lost State: The effected person is unable to see anything with their eyes, instead being plunged into total darkness.
Ended by: Major disruptions to sight such as flashes of light or getting things (such as sand) caught in his eyes.
Disruption causes people to see creatures and people that aren’t really there, but the hallucinations stay still and unmoving. Disruption will not create hallucinations larger than the affected individual.
Hearing:
Body Part: Ears (either one may be touched to activate curses)
Boosted State: Maled has highly enhanced hearing, being able to hear distant footfalls and conversations, or quiet sounds such as the slow unsheathing of a blade.
Lost State: The effected person becomes completely and entirely deaf, unable to hear any sounds.
Ended by: Loud Noises.
Disruption causes auditory hallucinations such as hearing whisperings, ringing noises, or other people taking to them.
Smell:
Body Part: The Nose
Boosted State: Maled’s sense of smell is heightened, and he is able to track scents like a bloodhound if he has a possession of the source.
Lost State: The effected person becomes unable to smell anything.
Ended by: smelling awful scents.
Disruption causes olfactory hallucinations such as sweet or bad smells.
Touch:
Body Part: Palm of the hand, or fingers.
Boosted State: Maled can feel minor things such as an exact change in the direction of airflow, or the vibrations of footsteps.
Lost State: The effected person loses all sense of feeling in their hands, up to their wrists. They can still move them, but will not be able to feel if they are holding an object or if their hand is being struck.
Ended by: Direct contact with an external person or object.
Disruption causes people to randomly feel that a spot on their arms or legs is being minorly cut, as if someone accidentally cut them with a knife. They only feel the initial cut, not any lingering feelings that an open wound would provide. The feeling is more of a nuisance and surprise than anything, and does not even come close to being actually purposefully cut. The individual feels one cut at a time, repeatedly throughout the effect.

Notes on Cursed Spotlight: Maled's invisible, but he must keep talking. As a result, he will be constantly talking during all of the subsequent posts until I choose to have him stop the ability.

This means you're all allowed to write some dialogue! Have Maled say whatever you want him to! Just run it by me first, either on here or preferably on discord (Entro9)

@Tiphphany - noting this on behalf of Starflame, who is currently only on mobile device and thus can't post in the immediate sense.

This OOC is available for any comments or questions you might have that need answering. Starflame checks them regularly, and your fellow contestants may also be able to answer or assist, so your best option is to post in the OOC thread, as opposed to sending a PM. Don't hesitate!

Sorry my last post ended so convolutedly
Basically Lán Harrow needs to truly obliterate every opponent while making sure none of them lay a finger on Maled Con because to be true to his demonic nature, he must one on one fight the only other representative of darkness with each of them at full strength, the only way of making sure he is worthy.

Edit: In addition, Cray PM'd me to let me know that Necro had his permission to cut Gabriel up a bit. For those still learning the system, this is the best way to avoid bunnying! Talk with your opponent/target and ask permission to land a strike, otherwise phrase it as "I try to land a strike, and this is what will happen IF it's successful"

We have encountered a few issues.

Tiphphany, your attention please:

There are 3 major issues with your most recent post.

First, you've neglected to take into account arena hazards/actions of other competitors, which has resulted in god-modding by enabling your character to preform whatever action they desire without regard for those of other participants. Specifically - you are assuming that there are enough shadows to travel with and surrounding TREE to preform actions. Given the amount of lava, water, and steam which is currently involved in that fight, there is TOO MUCH present for you to ignore all other factors and to assume you can preform your shadow-stepping abilities without issue. If nothing else, you would have had to at least pass through the steam rolling around Suhmat, Gabriel, and Sylvia to get to TREE, which would have disrupted shadow travel (and normal travel) somewhat.

Secondly, you specifically went against my instructions in attempting to take control of TREE without first messaging its creator, Randall Flagg, in either a PM or via OOC. The EC's, and all forum roleplays, are hugely collaborative events. You must be willing to discuss concepts, debate results, and share ideas with your fellow roleplayers. Even if this was not something you are comfortable doing in general, I specifically informed you via PM that if you wished to use the shadows to control another character, you would need to get permission from them prior to doing so.

Lastly, the abilities you are working with in your post go beyond what your bio implies that Lan Harrow should be able to preform. Namely, you are using the shadows to CONTROL the objects that cast them, which goes beyond the stated descriptions of Shadow Kinesis and Shadow Forge. While this ability does exist, in part, in Demon State, it is quite obvious from the post that Harrow has yet to enter that form.

Due to the combination of multiple rule-breaking actions, I am disqualifying Lan Harrow from the 2018 Elemental Championships.

My advice to you is to continue to read and follow the EC's this year, and treat them as a learning experience so that you can come back next year with a better understanding of the process. I also recommend checking out the forum's Role Playing Academy for basic guides and tips, and our Combat Training forums if you want extra practice in proper fighting techniques. I look forward to seeing an improved performance from you next year!

I'm tentatively requesting an extension for 12 hours due to persistent computer problems. I couldn't get the desktop to behave at all this entire night, keeping me from writing on my own time. I'm expecting to need at least that much time to try and have my post up before 19:00 EST.

I have found time to complete my post and am currently proofreading it. Once again, I would like to state that I've sought the consent of all parties affected by my actions where necessary, and notified them otherwise. Specifically, I have Necro's permission to connect with my first attack and have elected to leave the second one open-ended. I am similarly leaving the gritty details of any ensuing damage up to his response, trying to give as much descriptive freedom to him and Flagg due to the proximity between their characters and their imminent interaction.

Post up. Pride’s javelin seems to go unremarked on. However, I did collab with drakaeth99 to specify that it would miss given all the chaos, and Dapper is not a trained soldier. In combat, he’s going to miss some things that don’t directly affect him.
