Book 3: Reimagined: Melissa

Hey there, heroes!

This week, the next quest in Book 3 Reimagined has arrived!

[image]https://cms.battleon.com/DF/images/MELISSAdn.png[/image]

Now that you and Mritha have safely retrieved Melissa, Kara wishes to speak to her about the purpose of the Vind...

Is peace between the Vind and The Rose truly possible?

Head over to Sulen'Eska, and revisit Kara's past quests to play the latest step in the Reimagined project: Melissa!

Also this week, the prototype of the new Build and Outfit templates is here!

Dragon Amulet holders can now save up to 10 different builds and outfits that can be loaded at will.

Of these, "Build 1" and "Outfit 1" are your defaults that load when your character first loads in.

This is still a prototype - we have plans to clean up the interface, along with other possible features, such as selectable icons for different templates for better readability/use.

You can also use the inventory search term in the format of "Build #" or "Outfit #" to view all the components of a build or outfit, or simply omit the number to view the components of a selected build or outfit.

These search parameters work with existing parameters as well.

We hope you enjoy this new feature! As always, feedback is welcome.

In addition to this, there's a couple updates to the way things are saved/loaded.

Pet dragons can now be saved/loaded with builds.

Slotted specials are now saved/loaded with builds, and not outfits.

Tentatively fixed some issues that were causing load errors with hidden helms/capes.

As a result of these fixes, new default build/outfits may need to be saved when first logging in after this update.

And one more update!

Guardian training no longer requires Defender Medals. That training step is now freely completable with no requirements.

Finally, here's a sneak peak of the next reforged time class!

Once again, another great set of improvements, story-wise and QoL-wise. Multi-build saves will definitely save time on the gearswaps, especially on fights approaching IE swaps. And I finally need not have to spend extra time equipping our scaly companion.

As for the upcoming AoT reforging, the metallic components feel... bulkier, and the coloration is more of a mana being than the sand-colored original, which was an appropriate color for an embodiment of time. At least the colors have more depth.

I feel like this release really captures who Melissa is at her core, as well as the differences between her and Kara's worldviews. The dialogue feels natural, interactions between the characters genuine. It also sets the stage for future change in Vind's direction and focus.

Exceptionally well done.

Edit: And I just read the reward's description. The image of Melissa gathering flowers to give you after the duel really made me laugh. [:)]

Build saves! I can see this coming in a lot of handy in the future. Almost makes me wish I had more inventory space so I wouldn't need to go back and forth to bank to play around with this properly.

As per usual, I have too many thoughts after this weeks main story quest.
spoiler:

I'm glad to see Melissa getting a little more fleshed out here (also kiiiiinda makes me want to see her as an Inn fight? Just a thought); it makes sense that she'd want the Vind's role against the Rose to be more assertive, given that her own people took the complete opposite route and straight up fled the kingdom out of fear of being discovered and left her behind in the process. I imagine that would be the source of much of her frustration and aggression as well - though the name of the quest reward makes me think that choice may have been a tough call for Maeve to make.

Also, this makes me wonder how this might change the Hero's inevitable arrival to Swordhaven and the meeting with the Beastmaster. With talk of parley with the Rose, maybe this could mean the Hero taking a much more dialled-down approach rather than what we saw in The Beast and just to be clear I hope the reimagined version of Unbound isn't too far from the original because good heavens the chemistry between Circe and the Hero are just *chef's kiss* uh, I like that quest a lot.

Then again, if Jaania isn't attending the peace negotiations herself, then I'm honestly placing thin odds of any success to come out of them - I really don't see diplomacy being Akanthus' strong suit unless he can put on a convincing enough mask. If that were to be the case, and open war is to stay off the table (as it should) then perhaps an infiltration mission into the Ivory Tower may be the only option after all.

JIKIL -> RE: =DF= November 19th Design Notes: Book 3: Reimagined: Melissa (11/21/2021 15:39:51)

I don't see much of a selection of gear that can fit the pallet the new AOT provides unless its color custom gear.

IMO its beautiful, in its standalone way.

mahasamatman -> RE: =DF= November 19th Design Notes: Book 3: Reimagined: Melissa (11/21/2021 17:20:50)

What do the saved builds include?
Is it only equipped items, or can you also save stat changes and classes as part of a build?

Because I want to have some stats and items when I'm using CW to roflstomp a regular quest, and these won't be the same stats and items I'd want on KAA when trying an Inn challenge, for example.

Laeon val Observis -> RE: =DF= November 19th Design Notes: Book 3: Reimagined: Melissa (11/22/2021 18:07:24)

^Save builds are solely equips and cosmetics. If you haven't been reading the Twitter post of this DNs, even Verly stated the trickiness and unintuitive aspect of multi-stat build saves when someone suggested this among other potential next steps for this feature, particularly when you do not do these mid-quest/battle.

@JIKIL, that is assuming that AoT gets to have visible equipment. Since TK retained its perma hide equipped weapon, the reforged AoT would more than likely have its predecessor's hide all equipment and cosmetics.

Reforged avatar is BEAUTIFUL. I've been waiting for that one, and it does not disappoint.

So hyped.
