Game Log


Access Point: Click the Scroll on the lower-right section of the main UI, ';' Keyboard Control

General Mechanics


  • The Game Log shows information on what happens in-game and in battles, including damage/healing, buffs and debuffs, in-game notifications and more.
  • When the Game Log is open, in-game notifications will be suppressed, and instead added to the Log.
  • The ; (semicolon) can be used to hide or show the Game Log.
  • The ' (apostrophe) key can be used to toggle the log between System and Battle logs.
    • System Log is signified by the white color while Battle Log is signified by the red color.
  • To scroll through previous log messages, you can put your mouse cursor over the log window and scroll using the mouse wheel.
  • If the External Log is not selected, the Game Log will appear in the top left corner.
  • The Game Log has a limit of 150,000 characters.



    System and Battle Logs


  • The System Log shows information on what happens in-game such as notifications and more.
    • The System Log will show only the quest, pop-up notifications, and more.
      • Quest entered: Entered quest: <x>
      • Quest complete: Completed quest: <x>
    • System Log will start at default and will have a unique message: 'Welcome to DragonFable! -<engine version #>-'.
  • The Battle Log shows information during battles and more.
    • The Battle Log will show only the turn count, skills used, damage/healing, damage type, player's equipment, Bonus, and Crit.
      • The turn count is shown before any message ([#]:).
      • Skill used: <Player/Pet/Guest> used skill: <x>; trinkets and On-Demand weapon specials are treated as skills and are exclusive to the player.
      • Health and Mana Potions: <x> drinks a <Health/Mana> potion; this is exclusive to the player and guests.
      • Pet and Guest skip: <Pet/Guest> skips a turn.
      • Direct damage landed or glanced: <x> <critically> hits/glances <y> for <#> <element> <damage type> damage with <#> Bonus and <#> Crit (to MP).
      • Direct damage missed: <x> misses <y> with a <damage type> attack with <#> Bonus.
      • DoT damage to <HP/MP>: <x> takes <y> <element> (MP) damage from <DoT effect>.
      • Monster healed from direct damage: <x> heals <y> with -<#> <element> damage.
      • HP/MP recovery: <x> recovers <y> <HP/MP>.
      • HP/MP recovery from HoT effects: <x> recovers <y> <HP/MP> from <HoT effect>.
      • Healed for 0 HP: <x>s HP was adjusted.; this occurs on attacks/effects that sets player/target's HP or adjusted heals that ignore Health/All Resists.
      • HP/MP damage taken from effects: <x> takes <y> damage (to MP).
      • Equipment swap: <x> equipped <y> to the <Weapon/Back/Finger/Head/Neck/Waist/Wrist/Pet> slot; <Weapon/Back/Finger/Head/Neck/Waist/Wrist/Pet> signifies the order of weapon, cape/wings, ring, helm, belt, bracer, and pet slots respectively.
      • Player/pet/guest/monster affected by a stun effect: <x> is <not> immobilized by <Stun effect>. <Rolled (y) against (z) Immobility resist.>; roll to resist the stun is exclusive to the player.
      • Player/guest/monster defeated: <x> defeated <y>.
  • In both System and Battle Logs, it will show buffs/debuffs as well as the battle against a monster.
    • Beginning of a battle: Battle against <monster> begins.
    • Effect applied: <effect> applied to <x>.
    • Effect expired/purged: <effect> fades from <x>.
    • Monster(s) defeated: Battle won.
    • Player flees: <Player> fled the battle.
    • Player defeated: Battle lost.


    External Log


  • If the External Log was toggled from the Options Interface, the Game Log will appear side by side or pop out from the game's window instead of the top left corner.
  • External Log is scrollable, selectable (for copy/paste), and also responds to keybinds.
  • External Log has a button to clear the Game Log.



    Other information
  • The Game Log shows information on what happens in-game and in battles; more information can be found in the October 8th, 2021 Design Notes.
  • Turn numbers were added to the Battle Log on October 15th, 2021.
  • Healing for 0 HP message was turned to HP was adjusted on March 3rd, 2023.
  • The Battle Log was updated to show damage type, Bonus, and Crit on June 23rd, 2023.
  • Potion, Trinket, and Pet and Guests turn skips were added to the Battle Log on November 24th, 2023.
  • Roll to resist the stun effect was added to the Battle Log on February 14th, 2025.
  • The following changes were implemented on November 14th, 2025:
    • The Game Log was updated to be always available.
    • The External Log was introduced.
    • The Game Log was updated from 75,000 to 150,000 characters.
