Okay, going to take a stab at this even though this is more like 16 ga buckshot.
Let’s start with a couple of things to keep in mind while untangling this mess. First, the different time periods/realities involved, of which I’m counting five. These are the following:
1. Characters’ reality in the past—not the past as in DF, but the past as in eons ago when the Devourer first appeared
2. Players’ reality in the past—our past
3. Characters’ reality in present time—this is our characters in the world of Lore
4. Players’ reality in present time—this is us as we click away on the “attack” button
5. Characters’ reality in the future—our brief encounter in the future
Second, let’s recall for a moment that mythology is typically a story created by a primitive culture to explain events otherwise unexplainable. Egyptian, Greek, and Roman, mythology do just that. In fact, one of the links on the blog just provided does that in modern times—the wiki reference to cryptozoology. The yeti, bigfoot, and the loch ness monster, are all modern myths developed to describe events or sightings we can’t explain. For this discussion, we need to draw a fine line between mythology and theology, for this is not the place to discuss people’s current religious beliefs. Please do not start down that path.
Now, to systematically go through the realities I’ve listed above. The past of Lore, which can be taken as relatively primitive, has been revealed to us through two books in the Isle’s library. The first encompasses the creator, the devourer, and the eight elemental lords; and the second depicts the fisherman. (Thank you, Lkeas, for adding transcriptions of both to the Truthpedia.) Since there seem to be ten named faceless and ten characters in the story, it makes sense that they are matched. It would make sense that to a primitive individual a highly intelligent cloaked alien would be considered godly and depicted as such in mythology. So, the eight—Truth, Lies, Life, Death, Peace, War, Eternal, and Transient—were described in Lore’s mythology as the elemental lords. One note in the origins story to be made is that the lords never fought amongst themselves, but rather the followers seeking more power than deserved. Somehow, that sounds a lot like current Paxia to me. That leaves the Devourer and the Creator as Omega and Hope. If Omega is coming to destroy Lore in darkened shadow, this seems to make sense. Furthermore, the idea of individuals carrying small pieces of a “creator” inside them is a central theme to many belief systems. So, the ideas that Hope and Creator are synonymous and individually our characters carry Hope are feasible. This story lays out the characters and tells of the Devourer’s (Omega’s) arrival in the past. It also hints at what happened in the past, i.e. the Devourer did not destroy everything but rather left a wasteland so that life could begin again. Otherwise, our characters would not exist. Next, the fisherman’s tale looks rather familiar to those of us participating in Paxia—a lowly fisherman gaining powers he doesn’t deserve destined to become a bloodthirsty monster. However, no ending or timeframe accompanies the story so we don’t know if he helps fight the Devourer (Omega) or hinders our efforts or has nothing to do with the war. Lastly, we have the story of four eyewitnesses to the arrival of the Devourer (Omega)—the four in the vault. This doesn’t help much other than the clock counting down presumably to the Devourer’s (Omega’s) arrival. Please note that the clock we see in the vault is not the actual clock ticking since the one we see resets every time we open the vault. Also, this clock has been described as being precise and created by highly intelligent people, which would describe an alien race. Truth refers to the vault when he speaks of a box containing Lore’s doom that was opened.
With this in mind, references to the players’ past, i.e. pyramids, aliens in Egyptian times, Greek mythology, etc, are given to remind us of what I just previously stated. Our ancestors imagined some crazy stories to explain things and events they didn’t fully understand; and to do so is human nature. Many times these stories developed into cults or religions, but later understanding uncovered the truth in what was told.
Our characters in their present time seem to have a lot transpiring around them. They recently opened a vault, which started a clock ticking down to Lore’s destruction, and took a trip to the future to chase down Makkisar. Also somewhere in present Lore, ten Avatar’s wait to be revealed including one called Hope, whose Avatar we should already know. We’ve been charged with the task of finding a relic for Truth (a crystal), but we don’t know where it is. And, the full part some characters have to play is still unknown, including Nightbane, Epheel, Edward, Eternal, the fisherman, and probably others.
Hints of present time Lore are given to us through a variety of filters to us (the players) in our present time. Remember that the filters are meant to convolute the hints to provide challenge and fun. These include Kaliope, the White Rabbit, Maxwell, the portal, and the Messenger. Moreover in our present time, Truth and Lies are computer constructs as part of the game, so these filters have referred to them as such and will continue to do so. Our task is to figure out what is currently happening and what will happen so that we may prepare our characters to benefit the most from whatever event. For example, it would be of great benefit for our characters to be logged in when the clock finally expires so that vast amounts of experience, gold, and tokens, can be acquired. Plus, the whole chase of the truth provides some entertainment.
This leaves the much-maligned Future War. It seems that no one liked the results of this war, because they mistakenly thought it was a climax instead of what it was. Did it occur to anyone that the main purpose of going to the future was to release Truth from his avatar—Makkisar? Makkisar was in Lore’s present time with the other seven Avatars, but evil misled him into the future. In order to prepare for the arrival of the Devourer/Omega, our characters had to go to the future and release him. Of secondary note, Truth revealed through Anna that the clans of Paxia are connected to the eight faceless via the revelation of the Aerodu airship crashing. This reinforces the idea that the eight faceless and the eight elemental lords from the origins story are the same, since one of the cults (or clans) houses themselves inside their lord’s (alien's) airship. Lastly, a member of the Cor Demi was there to suggest to our characters that not everything is “magic” and “mystery”, thus opening the door for the possibility of aliens. Some of Cor Demi's actions also suggest that it opposes Truth and tries to hinder his release. I highly doubt any of these characters will have further impact on the rest of this storyline, and Anna’s only purpose seems to be communicating with Truth while he was embodied in Makkisar.
So, where does this leave us? What is happening? I believe the world of Lore is about to be tested again. The first time, told in the origins story, resulted in failure. Either Hope was not released or the human inhabitants of Lore (the Drakel survived) were too primitive to protect themselves or both. As a result, everything was wiped out except the Isle and the Drakel. A vault and clock were then placed on the Isle to be started when humans were ready to be tested again, which our characters so expertly started. Now, Omega is on his way to administer the test so we must prepare our characters. The eight faceless in different colored robes seem to be guides for our characters to lead them to unlocking their inner spirit—Hope. Only by doing this shall they pass the test and survive. The first step is finding this relic (crystal) that Truth wants. However, we’ve been provided two different images of “faceless”. The second shows an army of cloaked figures with three leaders—the trinity or 755 or triquetra—standing in front. I’m guessing they want our characters to fail for whatever reason. One possible reason could be that the two images of "faceless" represent two different alien races, the Annunaki and the Cor Demi, which are at war. These green-cloaked figures, Cor Demi, seem to be trying everything to stop either characters or players (via Nova) from discovering how to pass the test. However, the Annunaki want us to pass so that we may aid them in the war.
So, from my perspective that’s how I see it. Now, we hang on for the ride.
