LurkerPatrol -> Pen tool tutorial for complete beginners (10/14/2006 22:06:11)

Hello, this is my tutorial on pen tool. Note its mainly for beginners, but experienced pen tool users MIGHT find something in there that they had never thought of before.

Hope y'all like [:)]. Enjoy!

Part 1: Clickie

EDIT: SCROLL DOWN THIS PAGE FOR PARTS 2 and 3 (subsection 1 and subsection 2)!!!!

LurkerPatrol -> RE: Pen tool tutorial for complete beginners (10/16/2006 17:36:30)

Part 2 and some practice problems are ready! Woohoo! [:D]

Here's some practice that you should do after part 1: Clickie for Homework

Here's part 2: Clickie

So basically part 1 = drawing curves and using pen tool to make shapes and curves, part 2 = coloring and stroking, part 3 = uses and applications.

Please give me some feedback (both experienced pen toolers and novices). Thanks!

Amoeba -> RE: Pen tool tutorial for complete beginners (10/17/2006 15:01:07)

its great for people who dont know how to use the pentool [i think =) ]

TheShadowed1 -> RE: Pen tool tutorial for complete beginners (10/17/2006 20:17:06)

Very good loopy. Just a side note, i've foud when doin g vector images, if you feather by one and then sharpen it, it makes a very smooth edge.

LurkerPatrol -> RE: Pen tool tutorial for complete beginners (10/17/2006 23:08:41)

Yay thanks for the feedback. And yes Tizzy I would assume it would make a nice edge. I haven't tried it myself, but that sounds great, thanks for the advice, I'll be sure to put it in part III (which I'm hoping to do tomorrow since I have a mt tomorrow morning and I need to cram for it).

Tissue: Thanks man, I hope it does serve its purpose in that manner.

thecompulsivetalker -> RE: Pen tool tutorial for complete beginners (10/18/2006 18:43:23)

OMG, thats great!Just what I needed since I can get this pen tool to work as I want by myself...okie?[8D]

LurkerPatrol -> RE: Pen tool tutorial for complete beginners (10/22/2006 22:21:21)

Awesome! Here's part 3 subpart 1:

It's about selecting. It's so lame and it's so short, so it's not fully detailed as I had wanted it to be. Photoshop was gimping out and lagging on me so I had to cut things short and just save it.

The subparts (tentatively) go: Selecting, Vectoring objects, vector sigs.

chickenbakeok -> RE: Pen tool tutorial for complete beginners (10/22/2006 23:10:44)

right click make selection works too :d

LurkerPatrol -> RE: Pen tool tutorial for complete beginners (10/23/2006 0:14:15)

Right there are several ways to select. One is to ctrl click the path, one is to right the click the path itself and say make into selection, one is to right click the path in the palette and then select make selection.

So many ways, so many many ways. Thanks chicken.

[AD].Blade -> RE: Pen tool tutorial for complete beginners (10/23/2006 0:25:24)

nice tuts make some more /slightly more advanced ?[;)]

chickenbakeok -> RE: Pen tool tutorial for complete beginners (10/23/2006 2:04:33)

heh blade, pen tool is actually really simple, just doing it repeatedly and the time comsumingness(is it even a word? lol) is what makes it so hard... to uhh... some people...

just knowing how to make shapes, how to select, and basic knowledge of ps is about all you need to know :d

[AD].Blade -> RE: Pen tool tutorial for complete beginners (10/23/2006 23:51:00)

lol i know but i wanna get to do a little more with the pen tool than i already can do...

LurkerPatrol -> RE: Pen tool tutorial for complete beginners (10/24/2006 1:03:34)

Well note blade that this is for BEGINNERS. This is sorta for people who don't really know how to use pen tool. However I am soon going to write part 3-3 (instead of part 3-2 - which I'm still working on). That'll be for vectors and basic stuff about use of pen tool in vector sigs.

That's coming soon.

[AD].Blade -> RE: Pen tool tutorial for complete beginners (10/24/2006 18:32:33)

i consider myself a begginer >.>

thecompulsivetalker -> RE: Pen tool tutorial for complete beginners (10/29/2006 20:36:48)

Oh ,lol...even with these tuts it's still needed lotsa practice...hehehe...okie?[8D]

TheShadowed1 -> RE: Pen tool tutorial for complete beginners (11/2/2006 18:17:57)

More I say, keep them comin Loopy.

LurkerPatrol -> RE: Pen tool tutorial for complete beginners (11/2/2006 21:59:46)

Sorry I've been away what with midterms and homework and stuff.

This is confusing, but here's part III which is actually part III subpart III but I skipped subpart II. I don't even know if I'm going to do a subpart II, so this is just part III.

Anyways, it's about vector sigs. Check it out.

Clickzorz

_Hendrix -> RE: Pen tool tutorial for complete beginners (11/2/2006 22:53:48)

Nice Tut, really good info, most people can't create curves, thanks a ton, this will really help!

nolraitru -> RE: Pen tool tutorial for complete beginners (11/3/2006 19:53:38)

I'm not uuuuuuuuuuuber. You forgot another "u". Seriously, keep up dude.

Great tut LP, really like it alot :D
Nice detail, nice and easy to use as well.

LurkerPatrol -> RE: Pen tool tutorial for complete beginners (11/3/2006 20:12:46)

yays! I hope it actually gets used and is useful to someone out there.

Nicky -> RE: Pen tool tutorial for complete beginners (11/9/2006 2:37:13)

You.. Lukeish Patrollor funny guy. Sure to be put to good use :D

LurkerPatrol -> RE: Pen tool tutorial for complete beginners (11/9/2006 3:18:08)

Hehe, thanks ^_^. I'll get to work on the dictionary soon btw. I gotsta work on some other things at the moment.

Amoeba -> RE: Pen tool tutorial for complete beginners (11/9/2006 9:37:03)

how do you make vector lines? i cant seem to do that =[

LurkerPatrol -> RE: Pen tool tutorial for complete beginners (11/9/2006 10:46:39)

Specify.... what do you mean vector lines? Show me an example.

LurkerPatrol -> RE: Pen tool tutorial for complete beginners (11/27/2006 15:00:53)

Hi all, I know this hasn't been updated in a while, but there are a couple of things that are worth mentioning.

If you are done with a path and you don't end up closing it, but you have to make a NEW path somewhere else, simply hit ctrl-x (cut) and you will cut the path. Then simply click on the place where you want to start your next point and you will start a new path. Reply if you would like a demo of this using pictures and stuff.

If you made some weird shape with the pen tool, but it's not big enough, simply right click the path (with the pen tool selected) and then hit transform path. Now you can change the size and rotate etc, without any distortions (this is not possible with bitmaps and normal objects, but is possible with vectors). Reply if you would like a demo of this.

Vectoring owns. Have fun.
