In the Gears games going on right now, the mecha ball game, The referee transforms into a ball. This not only seems a parody of the super bowl, but also of the transformers or possibly the go-bots.

The True Assassin -> RE: =AE= Spotted a Parody or Spoof in our Games Post it Here (1/16/2010 4:36:42)

In AQW the "Skello Kitty" I think is a play on words for Hello Kitty.

teddy12 -> RE: =AE= Spotted a Parody or Spoof in our Games Post it Here (1/16/2010 15:10:37)

@Dragonnightwolf
I don't know what go-bots are, but a toy called bakugan are like the referee...........I just thought about pointing it out.[:)][:D][;)]
~Kirby~ ~Bakugan plush toy~

HK 47 -> RE: =AE= Spotted a Parody or Spoof in our Games Post it Here (1/16/2010 19:43:43)

I do not believe that Bakugan is at effect here for a parody. As far as I am aware, the GEARS games have been around longer than Bakugan (at least here in the US. My information could be off, however)

Phobos and Deimos are lessers of the Nemesis Sets they are also the names of 2 moons surrounding mars.
In Greek mythology they are brothers Deimos being the personification of dread and phobos being the embodiment of fear and horror.

The boss guarding the Fujin set looks like Fujin, japanese god of the wind
Vayu a lesser of fujin is a hindu deity the lord of winds.
Anemos is a refference to Anemoi who were wind gods who were each ascribed a cardinal direction

Pyrite is a sulfide mineral also called Fool's Gold because it resembles gold.
Gilded is a refference to gilding. Gilding is the decorative technique of applying fine metallic-leaf or powder to solid surfaces such as wood, stone, or metal.

Penumbral and Umbral are refferences to the umbra, penumbra and antumbra which are the names given to three distinct parts of a shadow.

A paragon is a large, flawless diamond. The title is now used figuratively to denote a model of excellence or perfection of any kind; one having no equal; a perfect embodiment of a concept. This may reffer to the special charge abillity of the kindred set.

Vallhallan a lesser of the asgardian set is a reffernce to the norse mythology. In which it is a majestic enormous hall located in the Agard(refference to Asgardian)
Asgardian is a refference to the Asgardians. The Asgardians or Gods of Asgard are a fictional race of gods in the Marvel Comics universe.

it was said to me that is the best place to post it so here it go:

well we know that some parts of AE team games have reference to animes and movies. (pirates OP, Ninjas naruto, the vampire in MQ to twiligth and vanhelssing, ligth of laser weapon death note)

but what i still dont get is why AE team didnt made yet any reference to the anime "teggen toppa gurren lagan" in MQ. since this one is the best mech anime it would be awesome have some mech or weapons with refrent to it.

just to think some drill arm weapon with the special move "WHO THE HELL YOU THINK I AM!" its enougth to make my blood rush.

In reference to the Drakelcube P war, I'll compile the DBZ parodies I have noticed
spoiler:

The garlic ice cream flavor was a reference to the garlic junior filler arc
Broccol Ice cream refers to Broly from the filler movies
Panfluti and Gherkina both seem to be references to Piccollo
The Drakelcube is an obvious Dragonball parody
Tralin's blond hair thing is a reference to super saiyan
Gokar is almost definitely a reference to Goku
Tastifreeza ray is a reference to freeza's name and buu's power
Over 9000! joke a reference to the lines that started the meme

More might come

darckhawk -> RE: =AE= Spotted a Parody or Spoof in our Games Post it Here (2/3/2010 23:03:01)

Drakel Cube P is obviously a reference to Buckethead's side project Death Cube K

Nebula -> RE: =AE= Spotted a Parody or Spoof in our Games Post it Here (2/4/2010 12:28:53)

Cadbury ( the chocolate company ) - Cabdury ( the NPC on AQW ).

Kel-al Relish
Kel-el, aka Superman. His Krypton name, apparently.

Both are quite strong. Probably just a coincidence, though.

Or is it?

In dragonfable, shadow of the wind village the pet shop, snake ears is snake eyes from G.I. joe

And kudos for this guy
quote:

I actually analyzed Necryptos from Mechquest, and have a kind of reference analysis/explanation that I came up with.

The name of the girl on Necryptos, the vampire planet, is Mina. For those who have read the original novel Dracula, Mina was the nick-name of the girl who Dracula was attempting to change into a vampire. In the game, she is bitten by a vampire but does not instantly transform into a vampire, and instead assists in trying to defeat the vampires. This mirrors her role in the novel, as she does join with her fiancee Jonathon Harker and Van Helsing in an attempt to defeat Dracula. In the game, Han Velsing is the parallel to Van Helsing, and effectively your character is playing the role of Jonathon, as the man who is defeating the vampire, minus the fiancee part. Also contained in Necryptos are quite a few other references that I believe should be noted. One is the whole Sekali Desert zone. The whole zone is a reference to ancient egyptian mythology. The desert itself is a reference to the Sahara desert in Africa, and the zone ingame is actually in the area of Egypt, including pyramids and the Sphinx. Now the boss of the zone, Nephyrisis, is a reference to another ancient Egyptian blend of myth and fact. Her name is a blending of the name of an ancient Egyptian queen, Nefertiti, and the Egyptian goddess Isis. Myth has it that Nefertiti was so beautiful, she could make any man do what she whimmed. This is mirrored in game as her legend contains element of this, as she was able to make men vampires through attracting them with beauty, and then transforming them into vampires.

shintilaberis -> RE: =AE= Spotted a Parody or Spoof in our Games Post it Here (2/17/2010 15:56:30)

AQ's spell Ice 9 is a reference to Kurt Vonnegut's book Cat's Cradle

HK 47 -> RE: =AE= Spotted a Parody or Spoof in our Games Post it Here (2/17/2010 18:09:06)

I believe that Ice 9 was actually a reference to 8-bit theater, which in turn is a triple pun. D&D, Final Fantasy, and one other thing.

So we have a joke within a joke here.

Genoclysm -> RE: =AE= Spotted a Parody or Spoof in our Games Post it Here (2/17/2010 18:27:08)

I'm quite certain there are more layers to it than just "a joke within a joke." If anything, it is a tangled mess of interlocking references, jokes, and nudging at each other. There's also a CD that was involved somewhere, but I forget exactly how. Cat's Cradle is definitely the origin of it all though.

NekoYasha=Inuyasha

And Genoclysm, how are you shure?

Ganden -> RE: =AE= Spotted a Parody or Spoof in our Games Post it Here (2/27/2010 15:03:05)

Cat's Cradle is all but about the substance of ice-nine. It features heavily in the book, and came out in the cold war; that puts it well before any other suggestion, making it almost certainly the original source.

I happen to be reading the book. ^^;

Anyone familiar with Final Fantasy IV should have noticed that the Doom Knight Trainer and Ornate Doom Knight show astounding similarities to Cecil (Main character, A dark knight who later becomes a paladin) In the fact that the body is pretty much a clean copy of his, except the white at the back. (although this could be a link as Cecil had white hair, and that may be his hair sticking out the back of the helmet...), the helmet is the only part that looks different to his, as his bears no horns and is more of a mask than a helmet.

MonsterMike9000 -> RE: =AE= Spotted a Parody or Spoof in our Games Post it Here (3/2/2010 2:00:43)

Ebil is a cuteified version of the word "evil".

Alpha Rider3 -> RE: =AE= Spotted a Parody or Spoof in our Games Post it Here (3/2/2010 14:33:20)

the victorias secret quest in df is a spoof of the movie/book The Princess Bride. the Vurr'men Of Unnatural Grith are comparable to the Rodents Of Unusual Size. the poping and fire jets were in the fire swamp. Wess Lee was in the quest and Wesly was the hero in the movie and the bandit in the quest was the Dread Bandit Roberts while a character in the movie was named the Dread Pirate Roberts.

I loved the spoof. it was hillarious! Good job DF team!
