If you look deeper into the numbers provided by @KorribanGaming.... The bounds for this year's contest are listed below. Please bear in mind that this is a conservative estimate to reach, since donations tend to trend upwards with each successive year. Gold Top 50: 35,100,000,000 Top 100: 12,800,000,000 Top 150: 5,700,000,000 To reach the top 150, you need to realistically acquire 5,700,000,000 / 365 = 15,616,439 gold daily. A tenth of this is needed assuming 10 characters. With this in mind: quote:
AQ Daily Gold Cap = (1.055^Level + 8 + 1.055^(Level^1.085)) * 300 * 1.5 (1.055^102 + 8 + 1.055^(102^1.085)) * 300 * 1.5 = 1,579,116 This shows unless you have 10 characters of level 103+, it is physically impossible for you to acquire a sufficient quantity of gold through normal means. Immediately, this limits the contest exclusively to high-end players. Lower levels simply don't make enough gold to compete. The figures quoted by @KorribanGaming refer to the amount of Gold that you can extract daily. Crucially, however, this isn't the same as how much you can spend on the contest because unlike Guardians+, Adventurers cannot buy Gold storage chests. The first effect this has is to cut your extracted gold in half, since sellback is only half of cost (this effectively means your adventurers have 11 million gold per day, not 22 million). However, on top of this, nothing exists in-game with a cost remotely as high as the Gold chests. Adventurers are instead reliant on the next most expensive item, War's Legacy. Bear in mind, this is the Level 135 version since Adventurers can't be level 150. At most, the player has 150 slots available to them per type in their vault. War's Legacy (Level 135) costs 25,295,039 Gold and sells for half (12,647,519). In 150 slots, this allows you to fill 150 * 12,647,519 = 1,897,127,850 Gold. This is 33% of the total you need to reach the top 150 and costs 173 days of farming to acquire. In other words, there aren't enough vault slots (making storage even less efficient) to be sufficient. Even the next best alternative won't be nearly as efficient (and thus won't come close to reaching that all important 5.7 billion). The lowest you can go is 10 guardians, each at level 103 or more. You could potentially argue that you also have the inventories of your other characters too, but you can't have more than 1 copy of the same item in your inventory. This isn't even to mention the slots themselves. This strategy isn't possible without 150 slots to store your stuff. Being generous and supposing you already had 20 from previous choices, this would still cost 130 * 100 = 13,000 tokens. This would count for 520 days of adventurer token farming. You'd need multiple characters just to make it possible! To be honest though, even this setup is completely unsustainable. Farming 10 characters every day for a year ignores casual nature of some players, and the fact that others might to spend their gold on the items in AQ. Especially if they're levelling. Tokens Top 50: 50,000+ Top 100: 10,000+ Top 150: 5,000+ The token contest is better in almost every way. It's a premium currency contest, so you outright expect non-premium players to be disadvantaged. Ironically though, this one is the more fair contest! There's no equivalent of a gold storage chest (nor is there a need for one) and everyone has the same cap regardless of their level. It's possible for everyone to reach top 50, though being reasonable it is still incredibly impractical. quote:
50,000 / 25 / 365 = 5.4 In other words, you'd need to token cap 6 adventurers on the same account each and every day for a year to reach top 50. It's doable, but certainly not for the average casual or returning player. You'd also need an extra character for all those slots if you were attempting the gold contest. On the upside, if you're aiming for top 150, you could easily reach your goal. To sum this up: For token contestants, it's perfectly possible to compete so long as you have 3+ (guardian) or 6+ (adventurer) characters and are willing to cap every day. This is not what I would call a "moderate" amount of effort (curating 3-6 characters is quite a bit of work), but it's by no means impossible. The gold contest, however, is incredibly unfair for non-guardians and lower levelled players. A single, max-levelled Guardian character could just about reach the goal (though if donations creep next year, that's probably going to be impossible). With that said, it's completely impractical. You wouldn't be able to spend gold in-game. Multiple characters have a massive advantage, to the point of being almost entirely dominant. For the adventurers out there, I'm afraid you shouldn't bother at all. You can't store enough to compete even at max-level, even with 10 characters. EDIT: None of this factors that Level is taken into account when receiving gold donations, so lower levelled players can't expect to make up the difference there either EDIT 2: To offer some ways to constructively go from here: 1). Allow Adventurers to buy Gold Storage chests. There's no going back (i.e. we can't just disallow them in contests when that was a reason players asked for them in the first place), but at least we could open them to adventurers to help level the playing field 2). We could track donated gold as a proportion of their current Gold cap. Generosity isn't solely about the raw amount you donate, but also relative to what you have. This would give lower levelled characters more of a chance. 3). More Community/Fixed Goals. This means at least Adventurers can shoot for something within their reach.
