Not just for beginners, lol. I use this too, I just go crazy afterwards and it looks completely different (yay for GIMPressionist and Displace filters!!)

Stex: lol, Step 4 is everything after setting the layer to "Screen". But yea, I like that one the best. =P

Where is the "Screen" option you talked about? Im using GIMP 2.4?

Cool tut. Ive got another background for plasma. You just do it normally and then colourise it to one single colour. simple but it looks pretty cool. I use dowloaded brushes now more than that sought of stuff

war: in the layers dialog box (open it by clicking ctrl+L), the Mode menu (the drop-down menu) has many options, including screen.

Where can i find the gradients? Like gradient map and FG to transparent.

To pick the "FG to Transparent" gradient, click the Gradient tool in the big toolbox thing, and then click on the button with a picture of a gradient on it that's next to the word: Gradient:

To do a Gradient Map, go to Filters>Color>Map>Gradient Map
