Old Mother Goose when she wanted to wander
would ride the the air on a very fine gander.

When t'was no geese around, she woudn't be stuck,
she'd hope on the back of the nearest big duck.

But alas the old woman to crash was her fate
because a small little duck can't handle that weight!

For the number puzzle:

I was stumped by the existence of two variables (m and n) in d(n), but I'm wondering if the difference between the bolded and unbolded numbers is that one of them represents places where n := 0 and places where n !:= 0. Going to work on that a bit and see what I can come up with.

edit: Actually, nevermind on this. The 922 = 1234 kinda eliminates this as a possibility.

okay. In Eldron's latest clue(And just an fyi I cannot get into the webchat for some reason or other because the silly thing isn't connecting) anyway. Eldron specifically states "Goose" and Gander. A gander,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gander

But gander, which it doesn't state in wikipedia, is the equivelent of a male goose(I think)

He's repeating words from the pictures. Because I see 2 geese, a goose, and I believe I see a gander in the picture as well.

I also notice Lord Eldron that hope doesn't make sense. I believe the word was "Hop" but wether it was an intended mistake or not is unknown.

Hope makes sense when you consider the results. -Eldron
In that case, your right hope would make sense.
I think there's more to the pictures then meets the eyes.

Perhaps if we try looking at the pictures and typing up each, of the first letter of each picture to show what they were, before they were changed further along to the A's b's and c's there.

I'm not a zoologist either, but I do recognize primarily all of the species. we have an anteater, ardvark, dog, goose, geese, peregrine falcon, giraffes, giraffe, and the list goes on from there.

About eldron's pictcode, Some pictures are multiples of others.

Deer are always in pairs, there's one goat and two ****s, one fsh, two fish, three fish, one goose, two geese, two giraffes, one giraffe.

Maybe it is a crazy cipher that can translate from "doggeesedogfrogdogfroggoosehuman" etc.?

Also, the number of pictures in each 'group' are thus: 12 14 14 12 12.
Which makes me doubt it's substitution, unless 'spaces' are not incorporated, or the returns are purposely misleading. But I can't rule it out yet.

Okay, the numbers are still stumping me. Let me repost what I know (at least what I think I know) and see if people can offer any ideas:

[d(n) - n]%(m-1) = 0 when d(n)%(m-1) != 0, otherwise d(n) = m-1.

d(xn) = n (with x >= 0) is supposed to prove that 922 = 1234. This means that either m or n (or both) must be affected by whether or not the number is bolded in the puzzle. This is the biggest problem I'm having, establishing a good relationship between the two that would make it clearer what m and n represent.

@Dragonnightwolf: try typing /server darkstar.caelestia.net and hitting enter on the Caelestia IRC web chat thing
(the irc.caelestia.net thing it seems to use by default seems to have issues right now)

if that dont work, try Mibbit.com (another web based IRC client) with this: [Goto http://www.mibbit.com --> Click CHAT NOW --> Click the SERVER link thing --> In the box, type darkstar.caelestia.net --> in the CHANNEL box, type #mystery --> in the NICKNAME box, type in your nick --> Click GO]

If darkstar.caelestia.net dont work for you, try one of the other three from This guide

Hope to see ya back on IRC...yer missed in #mystery

Solution for the numbers cipher:

spoiler:

Transcript:

Vax: They have destroyed Coren.
Terror: Coren is not of consequence.
Vax: The Autarchs have found something Lord and they are up to something.
Terror: Little matter, my dear Lady there is no point in concerning yourself. Where are they now.
Vax: A powerful lich such as yourself with both human and draconian ancestors can surely see with his own senses. They are seeking the location of the Veil.
Terror: It is not for my own benefit I ask. Lady Vax. It is for the benefit of those watching.

SOUNDS GLURGBURBLE.

Screams

Vax: Why did you let that one escape.
Terror: Because they are still watching.
Vax: Such arrogance leads only to death.
Terror: Usually. However I want the WarpForce to know.
Vax: Madder will be displeased with your duplicity.
Terror: Necromancer though she may be; Madder has no control over me. Flee now little spy. Flee before I change my mind...

EOT

Method used:
spoiler:

Unbolded numbers can be directly substituted with the corresponding ASCII character. Bold can be easily figured out from there. There is no predictable nor constant shift to the bold characters ASCII code. All 14 11 combinations have been replaced by a single carriage return.

ETA:
For the picture code, I think the geese are Canada Geese. At least, that was my first reaction to the pictures.

Well, it's great to have a solution, but at the same time it's a bit disappointing that I wasted all this time on the mathy stuff when the numbers were so easily cracked with brute force v_v

There is a problem with a brute force solution to things. Things tend to recur and next time it may not be so apparent. There MOST DEFINITELY is rhyme or reason to the bolded characters and not knowing that reason means that when faced with the methodology employed again. You remain in the dark.

I am afraid the vampirized courier has passed on. As he got nearer to death he began muttering streams of numbers. He gave them peculiar mixed emphasis and I have tried to indicate as much in my transcription. I am not sure it means much. He seemed quite mad.

Looking at the other number syctale, I'm assuming Hex ASCII.

Then again... maybe not...

When looking at all these numbers, I decided to try to see if the numbers that was like this would maybe make up a picture...
But It wasn't as far as my eyes could tell, so it's most possibly that they are to be translated into letters.

These are some of Falerin's new clues.

[12:57] <Falerin> As to the new puzzle
[12:57] <Falerin> Italics have meaning entirely segregate bold and plain face
[12:58] <Falerin> there are at least three variants in that puzzle
[12:58] <Falerin> If one solves the first puzzle correctly the second naturally falls into place
[12:59] <Falerin> though its base is not on dec because of the horrible effect of vaxs vampiric hex
[12:59] <Falerin> Oh and to be sure by the first
[12:59] <Falerin> I mean my own previous one
[13:00] <Falerin> Eldrons is an entirely separate matter still
[13:03] <Falerin> Oh one thing.... the math is significant but you are being far too literal. You cannot directly use the math to create the conversion
[13:04] <Falerin> it will instead instruct the creative thinking
[13:04] <Falerin> in how it was done
[13:04] <Falerin> here have one more equation my last
[13:04] <Falerin> may it serve you
[13:04] <Falerin> m=1/1000 * (M)

Hopefully this will help the more math oriented cryptonauts to discover how to use the function in the first "syctale" puzzle, so we can solve the second puzzle. I've gone through all the bolded numbers, used Arithonne's key to see what letter they represented, and found the ASCII code for each of those letters. If we can figure out how each of those ASCII codes became the bolded numbers, that should help us, right?

ASCII -> ???
(space) = 032 = 35
. = 046 = 51
E = 069 = 76
O = 079 = 87
T = 084 = 103
V = 086 = 105
b = 098 = 118
c = 099 = 120
d = 100 = 121
e = 101 = 122
f = 102 = 123
g = 103 = 124
i = 105 = 126
m = 109 = 131
n = 110 = 132
o = 111 = 133
r = 114 = 136
y = 121 = 144

Oh, also, one more tidbit from Fal.

[10:51] <Falerin> Modulo is not hard in the slightest
[10:51] <Falerin> It is elementary mathematics
[10:51] <Falerin> i.e. the kind of thing my 11 year old can do
[10:52] <Falerin> a modulo is the remainder of division
[10:52] <Falerin> period
[10:52] <Falerin> 10mod3
[10:52] <Falerin> =1
[10:52] <Falerin> 10%3 = 1
[10:52] <Falerin> in computer notation
[10:54] <Falerin> As to the function
[10:54] <Falerin> it reads like any multiconditional algebraic function
[10:54] <Falerin> >:-D
[10:57] <Falerin> Oh fine I will give you one more equation that will help the issue
[10:58] <Falerin> dr(n) = 1 + {n-1[mod (m-1)]}
[11:07] <Falerin> It is true simultaneously with the first defintion which is what the ":=" means.

The formula that Falerin gave in the first puzzle is called Raman's Formula, and for any x from 0 to positive infinity n = 9 (thus indicating that the bolded numbers are in base 9, not base 10). The italicized numbers are in base 8 for this newer puzzle. Here are the numbers in base 10:

Okay. If you look closely at the bolded numbers in the second puzzle, you can faintly make a connection of where there looks like some kind of secret letters going on.

Problem there is, that there are a handful of spaces between the letters making it harder then usual to see.

Although I find it unusual that vampires would be attacking your messengers falerin, Unless, if speculation were to prove, that these vampires worked either for the network or the warpforce.

Two worlds so we're probably talking about both Lore as it is in adventurequest, and warpforce as it is in the "next" installment.

I now feel very compelled to repeat Jack Nicholsons famous line as the joker. "Where does he get those wonderful toys."
