This just in, Could the wide sea mean space? The network is getting clever. Historically, codes have been not their strong suite.

Well, the Roman numerals used equal 257. So, "Cross the wide sea, 257, to find the good one's friend." The good one's friend could easily be Keeshish-Kin, if the good one is Eldron. The rest looks like a simple substitution cipher, but I'll bet it isn't. Anyway, using the clues he gives in his post, and assuming I'm correct in everything I've said here, the first line translates to:

"Cross space, 257, to find Keeshish-Kin."

A robot, perhaps?

But if those are roman numerals, then the order is peculiar.

quote:

<KM2> I'm not sure Nex is correct on the 257 part....
<lordtomato> If you add the numerals up it equals 257
<lordtomato> it is out of order, thou
<lordtomato> thogh
<KM2> it's more like 150 107
<lordtomato> hm
<KM2> not 150.107, just both one after the other

CLCVII is not 257, since LC does not exist.

However, I must say, that Keeshish was also the first thing that popped into my mind from "the good one's friend".

EDIT: Tried Vigenere with "Keeshish" as key. Did not work.

Ocean. the roman numerals represent either a longitude/latitude direction.

I'm thinking large expanse of water, and you figure that they use long/latitude directions as "numbers" there's that possibility.

Cross the wide sea, CLCVII, to find the good one's friend.

The Artic Ocean, sometimes called the Artic Sea is pretty wide.
The coordinates (150,107) are pretty much in the middle of the Artic Ocean.
Kesshish-Kin looks like an Artic owl.

eldron spelled suit wrong. "“Strong suit” is an expression derived from card-playing, in which hearts, diamonds, clubs and spades are the suits"

a "suite" is "a number of things forming a series or set."

unless he did this by accident this might be a clue.

The rules of Caesar's Math it seems are lost to you. What matters is not standard notation but rather standard rules. If you are are to escape the puzzle of Cerebus... no wait that's not somehow wrong... not the three headed dog at all. Just Great I will War with this for hours.

257 wasn't the number in the far past, the number of the Faceless? In the Carnax Saga ending (Future-Carnax)

BUT CLC isn't a roman number... CL is good (150), but LC isn't. The correct will be CCLVII, that mean 257. You can not mix the roman numbers.

Thats not quite correct. You can mix numerals. But their meaning is distinct when smaller a number comes before a larger number it means something quite different than when the smaller number comes after the larger one. In this case perhaps it is wise noting that the message was department of redundancy department approved! - Falerin

Wait...what?

CL = 100+50 = 150
150 – C = 150-100 = 50
50+7 = 57

Am I making any sense? Because I don't think I am...
