~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Order of the Dragon~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Prologue
In the beginning, Ingle Abital drenched itself with such beauty and purity that its rays pierced the darkness in the furthest reaches of the universe. This fledgling world came into being from the power of Kelfer's mind. Before time began, He set a precious stone he had crafted into the dark vastness of the heavens. He laid his hand under it and it began to grow. From under Kelfer's gentle fingers a beautiful sapphire color shone forth faintly. As it formed, the sapphire light expanded. Finally, all movement ceased. Kelfer looked upon it and saw it was still and void of life. He gently breathed over the world, causing the blue gem to melt, creating water. The vast ocean in this new world seemed to outshine all, even the precious gems strewn throughout the world. in the middle of the cerulean waters, shades of the deepest amber appeared as land itself grew from the bottom of the sea. Amongst the warm russet loam, flecks of emerald plant life erupted. Swiftly, the plants spread across the brown, coating all in its lively splendor.
Kelfer looked again and still wasn't happy. His planet was beautiful, but too flat. He took one of his fingers and drew a line across the continent. Everywhere he touched, majestic mountains sprang up so high the tips became powered with stardust. Kelfer smiled the the stardust. Heat was drawn out, leaving the coldness of space in a watery form. With another though, plants sprouted and quickly grew. The base of the unique plants were brown, but the leaves stayed their lively shade of green. These plants Kelfer called trees. Tress rapidly took over the vast majority of the glistening planet. All this was done to remind the world how small it really was.
The last gift He gave filled the world with light; its wet and airy nature ensured that it permeated everything to the planet's core. The light from this planet almost out-shone the nearby sun in its glory and beauty. Kelfer looked and loved it.
However, the planet lay still and silent in space. So seven races were made to inhabit the fledgling world. They ranged greatly in shape, color, and talent. Not one creature was exactly the same as another.
To each race Kelfer gave a gift that was specifically suited. To humankind, each one different in color, he gave the gifts of courageous hearts and the ability to adapt. The humans were now equipped to become the heroes of the world. They were the peace makers, the diplomats, the protectors. They were natural leaders, willing to stand out for what was right and good.
To the werepeople, Kelfer granted them the ability to change between two forms, an animal form and a human form. Because of their gift, the werepeople often became messengers. It was up to them to keep all the people across the entire continent connected to each other in a close circle of community.
To the elves, Kelfer endowed them with many gifts for He foresaw the part the elves would play in the future. He gave them the gifts of magic, immortality, and endurance beyond that of humans. The elves assigned themselves to the task of being watchmen of the faith. They were often the priests and priestesses of the land, communicating directly to Kelfer. Many became diplomats and worked alongside the humans as well.
To the vampires, Kelfer had a very unusual gift for he foresaw danger for them in the future. This gift was part blessing, part curse. He gave the vampires unlimited strength, magic, and to a select few, flight. They could see in the dark and were deathly beautiful to all who saw them. The curse that was placed on them is as long as they served Kelfer with their heart, they would keep their gifts and able to enjoy the blessed sunlight. If they chose to not serve Kelfer, then they would be fated to have to survive off of others’ blood. They would grow deathly pale, lose their natural beauty, and lose their magical abilities. They would have to become dependent on others for magic.
To the glomaleen, He gave them the ability to talk to things that grow, like plants and trees. They were shorter in stature, but well proportioned. They didn’t look squat. They were graceful and fair, but never clean. There was almost always dirt around them. They were often found in the forest looking for herbs to help heal someone or something. They were known to talk trees into growing into a house or whatever the halfer wanted. They became the gardeners, farmers, and healers of the land.
To the mountain folk, Kelfer gave them a love of hard work. He gave them the love of granite and marble, of diamond and clay, of all kinds of rock and stone. They could craft anything they wanted out of the bones of the earth, such as boats or tools. They loved dark and dank places. They were solitary beings, perfectly content to live by themselves or with their family. The mountain folk were strong, short, and short of words; but they were very family-minded. Everything belonged to the family. The mountain folk were the most loyal of all the beings, because once they gave their word or friendship, it was as eternal as the mountains themselves.
To the fairie people, Kelfer gave them an ability to see beyond their time and to fly. They were shorter and relied a lot on magic that ran through nature to survive because they didn’t have magic of their own. The fairies could draw on the magic that surrounded them and bend it to their wishes and will. Fairies often chose to live alone in the forest to bring themselves closer Kelfer. The closer a fairie was to Kelfer, the stronger their gifts grew. Fairies were often given visions about the present and the ever-changing future. People came to them to ask advice about important decisions they were making.
As with most things in life, if there is a good thing, there is an equally bad thing. One being always struggled against Kelfer in prideful rebellion. Kelfer had created her before time began to help those with new gifts outside of magic, but this being became corrupted and wanted to claim Kelfer’s place as her own. She wanted to place herself on par with Kelfer, instead of rejoicing in His fatherly love for her. She only saw the restrictions and fought back. She lost and was cast away from Kelfer’s light and magic; her gift was twisted, turned near useless without Kelfer’s magic. The being worked for centuries on her craft, learning to harness magic from others, but in the process destroying her planet and its people completely; it was just a shadow of its former glory. She then used His powerful gift of technology to create a ship that would send her out into the universe, searching for planets that would fall to her. She went to planet after planet, but each refused her choice. Finally she landed on Ingle Abital and discovered one of Kelfer’s precious races was susceptible to her wiles. Her name was Mo’Garata.
It was through the fairies that this dark future was foretold. One ancient fairie, with his sparse and cream-colored beard hanging down to his knees and his green skin wrinkled with the cares of many years, had a vision where he saw the future. In this future, Darkness had fallen on their fair world, perverting and twisting it. The once beautiful and vain vampire race had taken over the world and enslaved all. Kelfer’s beloved forests had been cut down to make way for monstrous cities of steel and magic. In these places, technology and magic had been forcibly melded in an uncomfortable truce. The vampire scientists made serums to force the werepeople into one form, taking from them Kelfer’s gift. All were enslaved and forced to work for their masters as a magic source, because the vampires had lost their ability to generate magic on their own. The vampires couldn’t live without it, so instead chose to steal other’s magic.
Through all this despair and sorrow at every turn, the fairie heard Kelfer’s voice ring out above the chaos of sound made up of metal crashing, gears turning, and pipes blowing. Kelfer promised that no matter the circumstances, He would be there for his children. All they had to do was look and believe. He would send his Guardians to protect his children when the time was ripe. He then invited the fairie to look closer at this world, to look beyond the metal monstrosity. The fairie looked and saw a small group of enslaved people who kept alive the faith. They didn’t care about their circumstances, trusting in Kelfer to keep them safe. They reached out to those who lost faith; even bringing a few vampires to the fold. Kelfer said it was through these that the world’s salvation would come. From the faithful, light would come to the world. The fairie man then saw one elvish child with dark, almost black hair and milky skin start to glow with a golden light as she turned to face the great mountains. Then Kelfer bade the fairie to tell all who believed in Him this vision.
When the fairie came out of the trance he began to tell everyone. Most scoffed, unwilling to believe that such a fate could happen. They said he had grown senile with age. However, a small few took what he said to heart and started to prepare what they could for this dark time coming. These people watched as things started to go downhill in their world. They knew what was going to happen even when no one else could see it. And one night, it happened.
The majority of the vampire race had been secretly plotting the betrayal of their fellows for many years. They were the race that Mo’Garata saw their vain weakness for power and beauty. She showed them her art and taught them what they needed to know. They researched forbidden technologies, those that melded Kelfer’s holy magic and Mo’Garata’s black technology. Finally, they deemed themselves ready to take over and attacked. In one night, many villages and cities were wiped out. All who survived this dark night were taken and enslaved because the vampires also lost their magic within. The survivors were in shock as a good half of the plains disappeared and a large monolithic city made of metal rose out of the ground. It was here the shell-shocked survivors were herded and distributed amongst the victorious vampires. The new slaves were put inside glass spheres that made it possible for the vampires to steal their magic and prevented the survivor from using it. As in the vision, there was a small group who kept their faith alive in Kelfer. But hopelessness reigned supreme and horrors followed that caused most to forget their God and His promise. This became the common way of life for the next thousand years.
Chapter 1
Roars erupted from a deep, still pool of water. A cloaked, but distinctly feminine figure rushed over to the pool, dropped to her knees, and peered at the surface as an image slowly came into focus. A draconic head wreathed by lightning was slowly forming, the pale blue-green steaks of lightning lighting up the pool’s dark and bottomless depths. Another face flitted behind the dragon’s face, a more human face, but it quickly faded into nothingness. The water quivered in unsure expectation. The cloaked woman gasped in shock.
“What? Where is the other face? This has never happened. The Pool of Sight has never reacted this way to a new power. This new one must be the most powerful yet, because the water is reacting to its power,” she mused to herself as she inspected the rippled surface of the pool, hoping for further insight. A few strands of her burnt-gold hair slipped from their confines and gently caressed the water’s surface. The water began to leap and bend under her careful gaze, reacting to the power.
Suddenly the water shot out of the pool, climbing on itself like a watery serpent. The woman was thrown back from the stone-lined edge of the pool. The water rose eagerly, twisting and separating into distinct tendrils of water climbing over and around themselves in their eagerness to get higher. She muttered a few choice words under her breath as she stood, not caring about the dirt that clung to her. She grabbed the edge of her cloak and allowed it to drop to the ground, her hair falling to her waist limply.
“Ke’arra! Mot’anora, vishta,” the woman intoned in a frustrated voice. “Ka’a’una sempa ah’rea!” The woman held out her hands, weaving them in an intricate pattern that made her look as if she was grasping at nothing. At first, nothing is exactly what seemed to happen. Slowly, a small breeze appeared, playing with her hair. The breeze slowly grew until her hair was flying around, smacking her face and leaving small red lines.
The hurricane-force winds began to twist around the column of rushing water, holding it in place. Everything in the surrounding areas was blown around, but strangly the air was still fifteen feet from the center of the water tower. The water struggled against its bonds, trying to free itself, but the air held and she sighed in satisfaction.
“There. That ought to hold it.”
Her eyes widened as the winds that were playing with her long red-gold hair began to diminish and altogether disappear. She gasped in obvious surprised and tried to shape the remaining breeze around the rapidly growing column. Finally, the woman’s winds die. The woman fell to her knees, exhausted.
“This isn’t supposed to be happening! Why does water have to be so stubborn sometimes? If we can’t get the water under control again, we will lose both the village, our ability to find our allies, our ability to stay hidden and our entire kingdom. Shayla, I need your help!”
The girl arched her back like a cat, grimacing. Her elongated teeth bared themselves in a snarl of pain as changes occurred. Her skin began shifting to countless shades of blue that glistened in the light and constantly moved like water. The skin on her back stretched beyond what human skin could handle as two thin and skin-covered bones began to poke through two long and vertical slits in the woman’s clothing that were on her on her back. Slowly, large blue and silver wings burst from her back, her skin shifting and growing to allow for the change. Her eyes shifted from being pure white to flickering shades of blue, always shifting like water itself. The humanoid dragon stood up and appraised the situation, her long wings stretching themselves out.
“Don’t worry my sister, Leaca. I will take care of this. Stubborn water is my specialty!”
The draconic being strode up to the column of writhing water and placed both of her hands on the surface of the water. She closed her eyes and sighed. She then began to scold the water the way a mother would scold a misbehaving child.
“Now, I have warned you before. I told you to do what my soul-sister asks! You know better than this! Now go back to your place! Return to the duties you have been assigned!”
The water quivered back a little under her tirade, then rebelled. It flared up higher once again, eagerly climbing up. By now, it was a gleaming tower of water that eclipsed the entire village. People were beginning to come out of their houses and look up in awe. Shayla growled and pushed her way into the column. Her wings fold back into two invisible slots in her back and covered by a thin film of membrane as her hands and feet become slightly webbed. Her hair floated in the water as she began treading water slightly, breathing normally in the water.
Suddenly, Shayla placed her hands in front of her, palms up, and murmured a few words of petition to Kelfer, pleading for patience and help. She then pushed her hands up, causing her to shoot to the bottom of the pool, landing on her feet, and bullying the irate water down behind her. She then proceeded to refasten the calming and binding magic to the water, all the while soothing it. She reminded the water of its important job Kelfer gave it. She reminded it that the village needed it to continue its protection of the town. The water remembered and happily submitted. Shayla then made her way to the surface. She got out, wrung out her silver hair, loosely braided it, and shook out her wings like a cat shakes off water.
“Leaca? Are you ready to switch back? Things have been taken care off. Oh, and by the way, we need to practice on working on getting our two forms and souls to coexist as one more smoothly. Things have been rough and painful lately.”
Slowly the wings disappeared completely as the eyes shifted back to a pure white color. Her skin shifted back to its previous creamy color. Her hair turned slowly back to its red-gold color, the color slowly creeping down from her scalp.
Leaca smoothes out her soggy clothes with one hand as she replies, “After that episode, I couldn’t agree more Shayla. That was very painful this time. But first things first, we must report to the queen about what all has happened.”
Leaca, back in her human form, heads up through the streets of the large mountain village, working her way up the mountain to the palace. The people who had been standing around started dissipating, departing in all directions. Some went to their houses, others to their jobs. Others stared after the quickly disappearing woman who was heading up the mountain toward a large building.
********************************************************************************************
Meanwhile, in a sprawling metropolis to the far east of the mountains, a young human was sitting despondently in a crystalline sphere. Light green energy danced all over the surface of it, causing the light of it to reflect off the surface of the sphere, illuminating the dim room. The room is cluttered with various machines and crystal spheres of various sizes, all of it meticulously clean. As the energy left, it sapped his strength, his very life force. He slumped to the ground, trying to fight the growing darkness.
His vampire mistress stood in front of the man’s prison. She had her hands on a small grey sphere, the gears in it whining from overuse. Her pale and longs fingers caressed it, causing it to take on the form of a cream-colored seeing orb. Her dark hair fell freely to her ankles, but it was forcibly pulled back from her gaunt face. Her elongated teeth show slightly as she started to chant loudly and harshly.
“Econtrak firat allecor’a damvia! Dolor entra k’ell lay mire’ta. Domi foca Kilor’aen. Gil’a’morentan!” she shouts triumphantly as she finished her spell. The effects of her words began to show.
The energy began to dance over to her, circling around her and lighting up her deathly pale features. Her eyes flashed red and orange in excitement as the energy formed into a floating ball that entered the small sphere she was holding. Many images began to pass swiftly through it, showing many parts of the world.
“Show me the rebels! De’emorgtan!” the vampire ordered curtly. The images swiftly shifted until they slowed down, revealing a large mountain range.
She growled in anger, “I already know they’re in the mountains! Show me their leader! Morge’goren!”
The image immediately zoomed in on the largest, highest mountain. Blurred images of small houses passed by in a flash. The scene slowed as it approaches a large building, and then it stopped as if it hit a wall of water. The vampiress snarled as she tried to force her magic through the barrier, but the watery barrier just kept building up against her. It slowly wore down her energy and focus, causing the spell to start to dissipate. She tries to push more, but behind her, the human started to go into a seizure. The energy was suddenly cut off as the young man shakes uncontrollably.
The mistress turned and glared at the prone figure. “I know you have more energy in you and you are hording it! Give it! Give it to me! Otherwise I will leave your broken and lifeless corpse behind!” she screamed in a fit of furry.
Suddenly, a large amount of energy flew out of him, hitting the sphere violently. “Trying to escape, slave? You should know by now these spheres are impenetrable!” The vampiress scoffs at him.
A soft crackling sound started to reverberate throughout the cavernous room as crack lines began to snake sinuously across the ball. The winding and twisting tendrils of yellow green light slowly puncture the sphere, causing the vampiress to gasp in amazement.
With a resounding sound of shattering glass, the sphere flew into a million pieces. Each shard seemed intent on destroying the outer walls and was willing to go through anything to get there. The vampire ducked, trying to protect her body as the shards pierced her lithe body in their quest to reach the walls. She slumped to the ground unconscious, her laboratory in ruins. Small flames were growing in size, feeding off the oils and gas spread all over the floor.
The young man fell to his knees amidst the wreckage, screaming in pain as the energy that just freed him now wraps its tentacles around him. The energy seemed to burn him as it entered him, changing him dramatically. His body shifts instantaneously into a pure white dragon that seemed almost see through.
The monstrous-sized dragon roared at the roof, causing it to collapse. However, instead of falling straight down, it slid sideways in mid-air and then tumbled to the ground. The dragon looked up into the permanent darkness of the vampire world’s sky and began to ascend quickly into the air. His massive white wings began to flap faster and faster till he was high in the sky. The young slave’s panic merged with the confused young dragon’s panic. They soared off, out of control. In their wake, they left a trail of destruction. The once giant city was separated into two large parts by a newly created canyon. In this canyon the mangled wreckage of buildings, subways, and the bodies of people were easily seen. The confused population comprising of both vampires and slaves milled around on both sides of the new crevasse. Many were staring at the sky in shock at the sight of a screaming, pure-white, and ghostly shape of the dragon. Lightening fills the air as the dragon flees.
“Ghost dragon, it’s a ghost dragon!” was whispered amongst the populace. This was said with reverence and hope from the slaves; fear from the vampires. The white figure was quickly disappeared from view.
********************************************************************************************
A couple hundred miles outside of the devastated city-land, the dragon awkwardly descended to the ground. The dragon huddled on the ground, shaking from exhaustion and fear. He looked around for food, for anything. Just then, a small deer darted across the clearing. The dragon tiredly threw his head at the deer, just crushing it. He was too tired to bother to bite at it. The dainty deer cried out once and was silent, its blood soaking into the moist dirt below. The young dragon ate hungrily, inhaling the deer in one giant gulp.
The young dragon finally dropped his head, exhausted. He quickly succumbed to sleep. While he was sleeping, an unusual thing started to happen. The gigantic body began to shift from a young but gigantic dragon to the young human teenager who looked to be about twenty years of age. His dark brown, thick, and chin-length hair lay sprawled all over his face, hiding his features. Blood was splattered over his chin, mostly centered on his mouth. His strong chest gently rose in a deep sleep that could only occur when unconscious. The teenager’s skin was a pale cream color from a lifetime of being inside. All around him, a faint specter of dragon could still be seen, sprawled in and around the young ex-slave in the same position the dragon had originally fallen in. The air around the pair sparked with energy as a small hill began to form over them, enclosing them and hiding them from prying eyes.
Chapter 2
A gong resounded in the long stone hall of an ancient building as it announced a visitor to its hallowed walls. The hall itself was packed with people, some sitting and some standing. Some were talking to each other quietly, but most watched eagerly as a pair of swords clanged together. A young elvish woman with golden-hued draconic wings held her golden sword before her, ready for anything the wereman might spring at her. They were eagerly circling each other, testing each other’s defenses, looking for an opening.
As the last echoes of the gong disappeared, the ornately carved wood doors swung open silently. Leaca strode in, all the while taking in the scene. She smiled slightly as she caught sight of her best friend’s long black hair swinging through the air as the young elf leapt high up into the air, using her wings to give her leap extra loft as the wereman’s sword stabbed where she had been standing previously. The man growled and began to shift into a humanoid wolf with light brown fur. The elf landed on the ground behind the wolf man, already facing him. Shouts of admiration for both fighters went up as the two attacked. The wereman spotted a hole in the woman’s defenses and stabbed at her wings, only to discover her, and her wings, not there. As he had stabbed, the woman had shifted into a complete elvish form, slid between his legs, stood up behind the wereman. She kicked to the back of his knees, causing him to fall down as she grabbed his sand-colored fur on his head. The elf then placed her sword against his neck.
“I told you that you needed to get better at shifting. If you shifted into a human and rolled forward as soon as you discovered I was no longer where you thought I was, we would still be fighting. Shifting needs to be second nature and I don’t mean just the total shift. You need to be able to shift any single body part to your other form without a thought. Become one with your other form. That is the main strength of your people that Kelfer blessed you with. You are doing much better though.”
The elf released the wereman, who turned and bowed. He was slowly shifting back to a human form, his dirty blonde hair falling in his face, almost blocking his amethyst eyes. The elf bended from the waist, her back ramrod straight as her hair fell from behind her back and almost touching the ground. Her golden sparkling eyes never broke contact with the wereman’s eyes, but her face was otherwise solemn.
“Thank you, your majesty, for taking the time for a lesson. I really appreciate it. I’ve been practicing hard. One day I’ll catch you by surprise,” the wereman said with a grin as he straightened himself back to a standing position.
A robust smile burst out on the elf’s face as she stood up as well.
“I’m sure you will someday, but that will take a long time. I’ve been practicing for seven hundred years. Let me know when you’ve practiced for that long and we’ll see how you do.” her light voice carried easily like small bells over the chaos of noise.
She turned toward her throne, but stopped when she spotted Leaca. The elf gracefully sauntered toward Leaca, still laughing gently.
“Leaca’du’shayla, what brings you to my halls so early? You usually are not here till later in the day and is it just my imagination, or are you slightly damp?”
Leaca dipped her head and softly replied, “Queen Kayla’du’kiefa, I need to speak to you privately. Something has happened I have never seen in my two thousand years.”
The queen nodded and turned toward the people milling around in the hall. “I’m sorry everyone, but I am going to have to disappear for a while. I need a walk.” The elf turned toward the exit and left with Leaca. They both shielded their eyes against the sun as it hits their faces.
********************************************************************************************
A monolithic building stood in the center of the metropolis, the newly formed canyon a few strides away from the grand staircase leading into the ornate structure. A small cluster of vampires crowded around the entrance, waiting for the door to unlock. A sharp noise caused all of them to turn around. Another vampire flew toward them, seeming to float across the chasm as his black feathered wings slowly beat. Construction workers in the chasm had stopped to stare as well, the petty bridges they had strung up made suddenly irrelevant. The tall vampire came to a stop in front of the group and gently landed. His crimson eyes flashed at the sight of the vampire lords and ladies. The lords and ladies instantly cowered back at sight of his grey, taunt skin that showed the bones melded in an unnatural manner. His cheekbones were sunken so much, they were nonexistent. His jaw bones was so sharp, it came to a sharp point that was as sharp as a knife edge.
“What do you want? Why did you summon me?” he growled.
One brazen vampire, both in attitude and appearance made his way to the front of the group; his pale skin blotched with red from impatience and anger. He stopped for a second when he reached the front, looked around and swallowed. He then strode up to the winged Vampire King. The lord gave a stiff bow from the waist, raising himself swiftly. His eyes only reached the King’s chin. The king looked over the crowd, searching everyone’s eyes. The young-looking vampire finally spoke up.
“My Lord Lamantra, we are in need of your counsel. I am sorry that we have summoned you out of your house, but will you meet with us in our council room? We don’t know where to go next with this problem. The rebels have struck at the very heart of our grand and peaceful kingdom.”
King Lamantra looked up, his jet-black hair catching in the wind and blowing around slightly. He made an irritated gesture toward the stairs as he starts to walk up them.
“Very well. Let us convene on this matter then, but you will all pay dearly for disrupting my time if I end up deeming this unimportant.”
He gestured toward the door, causing it to open wide. Lamantra strode down to the chair at the head of the table sat down, already acting bored. Quickly and silently the rest of the crowd found their seats and sat. Finally, when all the rustling had quit, the king looked up and spoke in a brusque tone.
“Let me hear the report then. Next, I want to know what you have done so far. After that, I want to know what ideas you have. Then I will tell you what I think. May Mo’Garata preside over us today. This is all for her glory after all.”
The impetuous lord stood up.
“My liege, I am Lord Reick’shon. I am in control over the sector of our kingdom that most of this chaos has originated in. The disturbance actually came from one of our research centers. One of our leading scientists was testing a new spying device she had invented on the impenetrable shield the rebels have around their base. She was using only one of her slaves for the energy, but something happened. We have taken this scientist into custody after finding her almost dead in the floor and the retaining sphere we keep our slaves in was shattered. Many pieces of the sphere had lodged in her body. We have healed her to the best of our abilities in order for her to be here for her trial. Guards, bring her out!”
A metal door that had previously seemed to be a part of the wall slid open and two guards roughly escorted a handcuffed and still-injured vampiress into the room. Her eyes glanced at the king and she turned pale from fright. The guards shoved her toward the lord and then snapped to attention. The lord saluted the guards, causing them to relax into a more watchful mode. Lord Reick’shon then snatched the vampiress up, preventing her from falling to the ground on her face. He turned her to face King Lamantra and ordered her to tell the council everything she knew. She nodded wearily and began, all hope gone from her face.
“Your Majesty, lords and ladies, here is what happened to the best of my abilities. I was working on a new type of spy orb that I believe could overcome the blocking shield that the rebels have up. It was working marvelously, but as soon as I got to where the shield had previously shut off all of our other equipment, mine just started to suck up energy from my source. The blasted shield was just stealing energy from my device! I did see something though. They shield seems to be made of water, somehow. I don’t know how that’s even possible, but I felt like I was fighting the most powerful current ever. I tried feeding it even more energy, hoping it would overload and allow me past, but my slave started to go into convulsions. I glanced at him and noticed that lightning seemed to be dancing from my device to his sphere. It was then passing through it and began to dance around him. He was screaming in pain and suddenly a wave of this white light shot out, hitting the sphere. I laughed at him, because those spheres were unbreakable. He seemed past the point of hearing me however. My laughter died out quickly when I noticed small cracks snaking their way across the entire sphere. One minute, it was there. The next, it wasn’t. The pieces flew through the room and many pierced me. Before I fell unconscious, I looked up at where the slave was and in his place was a giant white dragon. That’s the last thing I remember.”
Chatter immediately broke out amongst the lords and ladies at this new development. Several more outspoken council members made themselves heard over the uproar as they questioned their king.
“How can the so-called ‘Guardians’ come from our slaves? If that is the case, how are we to win?”
“What about all the other slaves, the normal ones? If they hear about this, there will be riots for sure!”
“My Liege, what about the city? We cannot cover this up, too many people saw it! What do we say?”
“Silence!”
Everyone in the room suddenly shut up, sat down, and was looking around nervously. The voice had seemed to come out of nowhere.
“Much better, my wonderful and dark children. Listen to my words.”
Everyone stared at the table in amazement as the metal seemed to turn to liquid. A distinctly feminine head started to emerge from the table. Delicate hands with outrageously long and copper nails rose out of the table. A woman began to rise out of the table. Her metallic features were harsh and cruel, but gorgeous at the same time. She seemed to be made out of a mix of different living and liquid metals. Her skin was the color of the lightest white gold, her eyes were the color of steel, her hair was the color of aged iron, and her lips were of the brightest copper. Everything on her seemed to be constantly moving like water, even her hair. Each strand seems to have its own life as red-gold strands seemly swam down her back to just below her hips. She finally stood free of the table and gracefully leapt down.
“Now we can get down to business. Lamantra, move away from my throne.”
The vampire king instantly leapt away from the chair he was in as if it was poison. He swiftly pulled the chair back like a gentleman to allow the woman to sit. He then glared at the person who was in the chair next to the lady. The vampire man swallowed and moved into an empty seat elsewhere on the table.
