Sucks to see you go Viking. Congrats on getting this far though! :D Hope you do return next year.

@Ryu: My post will be soon. You already know the ball is long gone, now we're playing with mini nukes. :P

Final four.

Oh man. With 3 other damn good RPers too. This is certainly going to be work for me. >.>

I'm glad to see that everyone made the EC an interesting read for my return. For those still alive and well, I salute you. (With the exception of Ember, Reinharn still has to smash her with an ax later).

For those wondering, everyone is once again quiet and peaceful on the home front. I'll be looking forward to next year. (Maybe the Winter Series if they're still around?)

Whee Ember silliness!

Also Apoc, perhaps at some point he will get his chance! Ember is a fun character and provided she lives I shall probably have to play her again sometime.

*Crosses fingers in anticipation* Can hardly wait. I wonder exactly how Reinharn would do against a nearly polar-opposite opponent?

Clyde, I will definitely be back next year. (: I've got another character in mind already. Finishing 5th is definitely a morale booster. :D

UGH. Stupid storm. Another last minute rushed post. >.>

Enough excuses.

This time I went with superjars' advice. I tried making Cyros clear cut and percise while Norrand guessing and unsure. I hope it worked out.

Phew. While I am happy to have finished on time, I am disappointed I was not able to get anyone to proof read.

So I'm trusting my own abilities on this one. :)

Clyde, I am afraid that I cannot respond to your previous post as written. It is internally self-sufficient, and indeed a reply leaps to my mind the second I read it, but I cannot in good conscience reply to it because it does not fit with what has happened with the battle thus far. At least, it does not fit with my vision of what is going on; that may also be incorrect, and if so I require guidance before I can post.

Here is a breakdown of your post and the errors I see in it. The quotes are from your post, Clyde, with all bolding, italics, and other formatting issues my own to highlight issues of tension between my vision of the field and your post. I will check in with my own words once a paragraph or so to explain.

quote:

The tension was rising.

Cyros assumed that he and the Handyman were working together as he watched him flung his weapon towards the Darkness Champion. He had to accept that as an answer since, before the Handyman had a chance to respond, he was interrupted with an attack from the Snake. This crafty cloaked man was brave, Cyros had to give him that. Without so much as batting an eyelash he attacked every other champion with a succession of quick and concise moves. He sent a staff flying towards his newly appointed ally and attempted to send the fire fairy flying back. She was a feisty one and managed to escape the attack.

I cannot find any attack made by Energy upon my character during this time, and certainly not any mention of a thrown weapon. Attacks were made after my triple threat, to be sure, but even then no weapon was flung that I can see.

quote:

What's this? The fairy not only attacked him, but she had the gall to attack the Snake as well? Cyros would show her the error of her insolence even if he had to fight her and the Darkness Champion at the same time. He took the ice that danced around him and formed it into an ice slide underneath his feet. As he ran forward the following trail of ice would break apart and come back together in front of Cyros. After he gained enough momentum he slanted the slide upwards and started skating in midair as he approached the Snake.

There are three issues with this section; I will begin with the one that is bolded. As I read Krey's post, the flighty fire fairy attacked Energy's Handyman and myself. She specifically did NOT attack your character, as you had yet to fall into sin in her eyes. If by him you mean to refer to Ryu's character, who was the actual victim of Fire's attack, you need to be a lot more clear on that score.

Secondly, and most importantly to my own interests, Jarvis launched an attack against your character shortly after the dual pulse which sent the staff flying and threatened Fire. The attack was a vicious sword slash towards your character's face, said sword being jet black in material and writhing with green lines of undead plague magic. If it connected with flesh or any organic substance, that attack would begin turning the flesh/material around the wound undead, its advance only possible to stop using the counteracting force of natural life within the body. Surely worthy of a mention, I would say, and occuring before/during Fire's bombing run. However, there is no mention of that attack here, or indeed anywhere in your post that I can see.

Thirdly, and as a related point, my character is within sword-striking range of yours at the end of my post. According to your reaction to Krey's attack, my post ends right about here on the timeline. Therefore, at a distance of about three feet, you really do not have space or time to run forward, or to form an ice slide beneath your feet, or to approach Jarvis, etc. That distance has already been closed, and we are now in melee range.

quote:

He looked in the distance to see the sun reflect off of the Handyman's glaive as it flew towards it's prey. If Marcos intended on attacking low then Cyros would attack high and be the distraction he needed. When he got just a few feet away from the Darkness Champion he jumped off his ice slide and landed on his feet. The crimson sand cushioned his landing before he withdrew his sword from it's sheath. There was no way he could wait to attack, any hesitation and his opponent would take advantage of it. He swung his sword and brought the still floating ice slide down on the Snake.

Again, our characters are not standing across the arena, one from the others. A circle with a radius of about 10 feet would currently encircle all four remaining competitors, so there is no in the distance, no just a few feet away, etc. We start at just a few feet away from each other, all of us, until someone flees to create more distance. As far as I can see this has not been done. Please correct me if I am mistaken.

From here on the post is solid, and I see no new errors. However, the post has gone off the rails, so to speak, and solid posting and good development on a faulty foundation cannot stand, and I cannot in good conscience build upon it further.

Kellehendros, I would like to request an extension to my time limit to post, as well as an extension to the others who shall be waiting upon my post, in order to resolve the issues listed above. I would also request your assistance on Clyde's behalf, in light of the storm and the power outage he experienced during the short amount of time he had available to post. For him, I would request any time extension he might need to sort this out as well as leniency concerning post editing, if required.

I am afraid that my post is somewhat incomplete in terms of technical details that will be needed for those who remain. These details were left out because my character is not aware of them and for artistic reasons, but I would like to provide them here for my competitors.

Firstly, Ryu. I am assuming that, due to Krey's intervention and the already difficult nature of your dual-wielding attack, neither of your actual efforts actually succeeded in making their way to my character. However, you will note that Jarvis did go down under Clyde, and that he wears completely sufficient armor at the ankles. If you feel those attacks would have connected, you are authorized to declare them in damages no greater than my ankle being entrapped by the wire without damage to my character, and the glaive striking its target on the thigh without damage to my character. These would each cause the darkness of the cloth to fade, in the affected area, from pitch black to a mid-level dark gray. If you feel any of that is unfair, please let me know.

Secondly, Krey. Your attack on my back was fully successful. The fire scorched my back in the proper whip-like pattern, reducing the darkness of the cloth where it struck from a pitch black to a steely gray. One more attack of the exact same strength in the exact same place will take the armor to its limit, though not actually burn the cloth quite yet.

Thirdly, Clyde. Your attacks were both sucessful. Jarvis's wrist and the back of his hand, and likely a bit of the palm will be NUMB, and there is significant freezing damage to that sleeve all the way up to the shoulder. Like Krey's attack, the time spent in frost reduced the affected area (that entire sleeve) to a medium level of protection, a steely gray. It might, in fact, have made the cloth just a tad lighter. One more good attack there, and...

Oops. You already DO have one more good attack landing there. :-P

Your character's sword not only sliced through the ice coating Jarvis's right arm, but also through the cloth beneath. There is a very neat line slashed into the right sleeve of the Worker's shirt, extending all the way from the elbow to the cuff. The sleeve, therefore, hangs loose around his arm in adition to being very damaged in terms of the protection it can still provide.

And that's correct, everyone. No attacks from big bad Darkness this round, save for the staff that Ryu stepped over. That's currently flying through the air towards him from behind, at what I would judge to be about head level if he's as low to the ground as I believe him to be right now. However, the Champion for Darkness is free once more... I'd advise you not to understimate him.

Happy hunting, and may there be enough blood for all!

Well I'm not going to lie. I'm not particularly happy about being cut. XD In fact I am even more angry at the fact that I came up short of 2nd place this year. The timing could have been better, but that's life. *shrugs*

Though I am happy to have lost to some damn fine RPers.

Krey, your doing amazing this year. I love your character and I think you have a good chance at winning the EC this year.

Ryu, I think you're the underdog this year so I am hoping you manage to surprise us all and win it!

Guardian of Nekops, you're way too good. I am hoping you lose SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO badly. Losing to you again is like salt on the wounds, but you're an awesome RPer so it's ok. And yes, those are compliments. :P

Good luck guys and GoN you do have permission to kill off Norrand.

@Clyde: There could be worse things than losing to Guardian of Nekops two years in a row. (One of them is making it to the Finals, but then being forced to drop-out two consecutive years)

Still, fourth place isn't that shabby, and it would be boring if everyone got the same ranking every year. Be proud of yourself: You've knocked out quite a handful of opponents to get where you are.

And there's always next year.

Right, so... Only a LITTLE late.

I don't think anything really needs clarification, but if anyone feel it does, just ask. There are three Embers and two of them are making attacks--as a diversionary tactic, a fake has flown off to the side to try and draw attention from the real Ember, who wants to burn right through Jarvis' body. If she catches, she'll latch onto the cloak, focus all of her current fire on it (And if it gets through, the flesh beneath) and then just apply a constant burn til she gets through to the other side!

Pleasant, no? Of course reactions might cause her to rethink her plan a bit but we'll see!

To be clear, I am declaring a hit with that final burst of telekenesis on the following, and only the following;

Jarvis's sword
The body and chattel of Clyde's character
The fake Embers (which qualify as blockable attacks unless I am mistaken)
The sands of the arena, where applicable
And, for good measure, Gohlin's staff. Again. :-P

No other items or persons within the range of 30 feet have had their fates decided by me in this post. It is likely that everyone and everything within the radius would be buffeted about, though not damaged, and thrown back a distance based on relative weight and proximity to Jarvis, not to exceed 30 feet... at least not by much... however you should feel free to dodge or outrun the effect as desired.

Also, Norrand will likely reanimate and can, of course, be cured by the medics if desired. I would, however, suggest that he not do so until things have been decided one way or another.

I imagine that effect's pretty wide, yeah?

Cause ONE of the fakes was going after Marcos. Of course, with the close proximity, if the effect's wide enough, both fakes (and all told, the real Ember) will be affected anyways.

Width aside, how much force we talking? Ember likely could maintain the fakes (Though not maintain their course) at the cost of some focus, but she might just dispel them in an attempt to maintain her own course. Haven't figured out for sure what I'll do yet, and will be waiting for Ryu to post anyways.

Jarvis's telekenesis is pretty heavy-duty. After all, he used to use it to lift heavy blocks of stone into place without the usual, costly measures of using many workers, ramps, and pulleys to get the job done. That's why he gets a capital letter on his title of Worker.

I figure that Jarvis's telekenesis could lift a small-sized family car and manipulate it, if such things existed in Lore. We are talking a lot of force. However, that is his limit in total, and he is currently using it all over the place in an "Ah! Ah! Get away from me!" burst. This subjects his strength to the inverse square law... the farther you get from him, the less his Nudge affects you, on an exponential basis. This blast spreads out to the point of uselessness at a distance of 30 feet, and fills the entire radius.

So, as to how much force you and the clones are actually feeling? Ember and her clone attacking Jarvis will be hit the hardest since they are closest, though as they're small not much of the force will actually catch them. I'd equate what they feel to a linebacker's charge, maybe a bit less (and certainly not as damaging... if anything it cradles and pushes out) and the other clone, about 10 feet away, to a good punch. Marcos, being larger, would feel more... probably the linebacker charge for him.

Right so I forgot Ryu was gone a while as of yesterday. So I got an idea and posted it this morning.

I left the fate of the last of the fakes, the one that was going after Ryu, undecided. After all, it'd likely have hit him (and thus dispelled on impact, aiming to catch in his clothing and burn him up good) before the telekinetic burst was released, unless he avoided it, in which case it too would have been dispelled. So ultimately, it's gone one way or another.

And now Ember wants Jarvis dead even more. Worth noting that, depending on how long it takes for him to recover from his panic, he could likely come to his senses in time to dodge. Ultimately, it only took a couple seconds for Ember to recover, else she'd likely have hit the ground or something. Only a couple more after that to make her assault, as much of the fire was already there from her earlier attempt. So you're looking at 4-6 seconds to recover. Essentially, the round from your last post to your next :P

Well, the last three survived.

GoN, a solid performance, and my thanks for your participation this year. I look forward to seeing you next year, after all, you always seem to emerge for the EC, for which I am most grateful.

Ryu, it was close, very close, agonizing, really. I thank you as well.

In the end though, there can be only one. Congratulations to the Elemental Champion of 2010, Krey.

Congratulations to all three of you! It was a fun read, thanks for the hard work. Must admit I was rooting for Ryu, but second place is nothing to complain about! Looking forward to next year (when I'll finally take part in one of these... yeah, next year, definitely).
