@Circe: Here's the board description of Clans, Houses, and Guilds:

quote:

This area is for the Clans, Guilds, Houses, and Clubs of the AE World. Currently it houses both the in-game Paxia Clans and MechQuest Houses, as well as any "unofficial" forum-based Clans and Clubs.

I bolded "any" because it has importance here. It is not specific to say "any DF, AQW, or ED." It says "any." Thus, both AQ and MQ clans should also be allowed in the CHG section of the forums.

I also find a problem in your logic. You say that since "AQ is not an MMO, there is no reason to have a forum like ED or AQW." If this were truly the case, then DF should not have clans either, as DF is not an MMO and thus has no reason to have its own "Unofficial Clans" section. As DF does have its own section, citing that AQ is not an MMO is not a truly valid reason.

A forum's description is just that; it's a description. It isn't a definition. If you think the CH&G's description is misworded or equivocal, that's a problem but the description doesn't preside over staff and their decisions.

Also, you've split apart Circe's statement.

Since AQ is not an MMO, there is no reason to have a forum like ED or AQW - you have official, in-game clans and those are what the forum is coded to support.
DragonFable doesn't have its own official clans so until the functionality is introduced, unofficial ones are allowed to exist. The same would apply to AQ were there no official clans. When she says that AQ isn't an MMO, I presume she means that, taking into account the present situation of unofficial AQ clans not being allowed, she doesn't see the need for them because AQ isn't a MMO.

However, the issue is that the officials clans do not fill the niche unofficial clans would. And thus the need for unofficial clans as well as official clans.

The Clan section is for hosting official clans. When there are not official clans, unofficial ones are permitted until official ones are introduced. Since AQ is not an MMO, there is no reason to have a forum like ED or AQW - you have official, in-game clans and those are what the forum is coded to support.

Question: If the forum was coded only to support in-game related content, why do we have these boards?

  • The OOC Room (and 3 non-AE subforums)
  • UCaG (and 2 non-AE subforums)
  • Creative Art (7 non-AE boards)
  • Legends and Lore (5 non-AE boards)
  • the private AK boards (about 5 non-mod-related boards, if I remember correctly)

Answer: All these database-consuming boards exist to establish a sense of community. So do clans and clubs. Notice that CHG is underneath the [Community] sub-category of the [Gaming Community] section. Clans and clubs are not about the games; they're about the clans and clubs.

    Imagine going from this:

    [CHG]
    -- Discussion
    -- Paxia
    -- GEARS
    -- AQW Clans
    -- DF Clans
    -- ED Factions
    -- Recruitment

    to this:

    [AdventureQuest]
    -- Paxia
    [EpicDuel]
    -- Factions
    [MechQuest]
    -- GEARS

    [Clans and Clubs]
    -- Discussion
    -- Recruitment

    Make sense?

That's how the boards were before. Paxia was under AQ, and there was an unofficial clan board under Community. This is a complete waste of resources and manpower when the unofficial clans are never going to be implemented. So the unofficial ones went away and Paxia was moved there.

By comparison, the other sections serve distinct and useful purposes that merit the storage space and AK support staff. OOC contains out of game discussions, Legends and Lore contains writing, Art contains artwork, etc. Yet the proposed board would contain nothing except a series of clans that will never be implemented or recognized in any form. If community is the only reason to have this board, is it not far easier to have clans host their own forums for that purpose than asking us to find more AKs to staff an additional board?

I'm fairly sure clans in DF will never be implemented, either, and yet we have a board for DF clans (though I can't say this for certain; rumors abounded back before I left).

If we were to use Acient J's proposal (which by the by I like quite a bit), we end up with 5 boards for the AKs as opposed to the current 7, meaning that while the number of threads would likely increase, there would be fewer boards.

Clans actually do have their own forums (I think this may be a requirement, even). They only post a single recruitment thread which has no response possible, essentially informing the community of the clan, the prerequisites for joining, and the location of the forums. There's not much to patrol through. Rule breaking is possible, but it's rather tough to do since you can't reply to any threads in the sections at present.

@below: I'm concerned as to how that would work out, given the whole single-player status thing. It seems completely pointless.

DragonFable will have in-game Guilds sometime S.O.O.N.
