yeah.....that is what it's about....the problem with the proposed laws, as they are currently written, would require sites like google and youtube...to constantly be aware of "banned" sites and not allow US access to them.....otherwise get punished....the problem is the "banned" list could constantly change....and the US sites providing access, could get punished....not banned, punished

the only sites that would get banned from US access....are those that violate US copyright laws

Sites can be flatout removed, not just banned. Also, this overwrites fair-use sections of US copyright law, so say bye bye to anything the government deems innapropriate, as they can simply take it down and claim that it was breaking some sort of copyright law, for something as simple as an image.

But we all know SOPA won't pass, the plan was never for it to pass, it's just a way to "encourage" companies like google, reddit, facebook, twitter and the likes to "donate" more money to politicians.

It was written directly that the punishment is taking the site down

How won't it effect ED? It will effect whole gaming and featuring (google, youtube, forum) community - which effect ED (staff, player base...) - which effect players (less players, less money, less content more cost)

a site violating US copyright laws.....would be banned from US access only....for god's sake....read the bills....the only sites that the US can actually take down would be based in the US...and they are already required to comply with US copyrights.....ugh :(

blue...i do understand....but let's just get something clear....the proposed laws (which won't pass) only effect US citizens....not anyone who is not a US citizen...the US does not control the web.....they do have jurisdiction over sites hosted in the US, and they are already held compliant with US laws.... the bills are an attempt to control our (US) access to international sites that violate our (US) laws...this has gotten way blown out of proportion....and that is why i objected that AE chose to post this crap on the ED design notes......

in my opinion, AE's actions are vastly inappropriate....my suggestion would be, for all of you that can't vote in the US.....to ignore all of this :(

The thing is though, the bill allows for it to happen immediately without legal dispute beforehand. Currently, copyright issues can be disputed for things like fair use, and indirect hosting.
Because of this ability to bypass the courts, it allows them to take down any site they see fit by claiming copyright infringement

 I find this funny who said you can't get a lawyer before site close and another thing funny this only site mention this bill. So basically not favorite adult site nor my naruto shippuden dub site or my favorite naruto shippuden sub site. I guess people never herd of supreme courts were government bill of rights can be over thats why you judges and lawyers.

Read that post and end the discussion as SOPA/PIPA has been delayed, so there's nothing to discuss anymore. In few words - it could've skipped ALL legal processes and shut down the website, you could not do anything to stop it.

^Lawyers can't stop bills/legislation from getting passed. They are there to resolve legal issues. Can you stop talking about the SOPA thing now please?
