Mass Mardar!

Location: Travel Map > Sail East > Mass Mardar!

For many centuries, the smaller cousins of Moglins known as the
Moglo-Habilis have observed the conflicts on the large island of
Paxia. But their watching is not confined to just the elemental
clans: The Moglo-Habilis have also kept their eyes and ears
attuned to events regarding the native inhabitants of Paxia
that want nothing to do with the clans. These people are known as
Outroaders. Many of them are merchants who make their living
off of the far more numerous population that IS clan-bound.
Sometimes, an Outroader gains significant wealth and power.
And sometimes, an Outroader can be just as dangerous as a war
between clans...

«Scene: Paxia at night. Camera pans down toward an older and younger Moglo-Habilis, your character enters the Scene.»

Moglo-Habilis: Welcome back to Paxia, «You»! Thank you for heeding our request.
«You»: I live for adventure, so don't thank me— at least not yet. So what is your problem?
Moglo-Habilis: We are very, verry worried....
«You»: I was wondering what that expression on your face was! About what?
Moglo-Habilis: We Moglo-Habilis live in small groups we call werbs. There are over 200 werbs spread across Paxia. Each werb has between 200 and 400 of us in it.
Moglo-Habilis: We are empathic between members of our species— We cannot read each other's thoughts, but we CAN read each emotions, and we can detect the presence of our kin.
Moglo-Habilis: We are most worried because one of our werbs seems to have completely disappeared, along with many other life forms in the vicinity of a particular Outroader named Ritteg's estate.
«You»: That's not good.
Moglo-Habilis: We are nearly certain that the missing life forms... are dead. We can no longer feel them in any way.
«You»: Where is this "Ritteg" guy's place. I'll look into it.
Moglo-Habilis: East and north of here. Ritteg is a respected and wealthy purveyor of war materials, including magical goods. He has always been kind and generous in sharing his lands with the local werb.
«You»: I'll get to the bottom of this.

«Scene: Dynamo mountains.»

«Scene: Nocturu forests.»

    2 RANDOM BATTLES
    Full heal
Encounter list below
«You»: There— I can see Ritteg's place just up ahead! Strange how everything has gone quiet. I can't even hear any insects now...

«Scene: Nocturu Forest Cottage.»

Click on the arrow to enter.

«Scene: Inside the Cottage. A slouched dead Paladin is seated by the table.»

«You»: ......... That must be Ritteg.
«You»: Dead as dead can be.
«You»: Not much to see down here. Maybe I'll find something upstairs...

Click on the arrow to go upstairs.

«Scene: Storage room. Two tapestries with strange glyphs are hung on the wall.»

«You»: This house is almost empty.
«You»: Hmm.
«You»: What are those things on the wall? They look like some kind of tapestries. I wonder what the strange writing on them means...

«Something moves across the top of the screen.»

«You»: What was that?!!

«A grotesque black flying insectile creature flies in.»

Mardar: OUT. YOU HAVE DISTURBED MY CONCENTRATION.
«You»: Uh, I'll go just as soon as you tell me why EVERY animal within a mile of here seems to be either missing or dead.
Mardar: HEHE. YOU SEEM TO HAVE ARRIVED MUCH TOO LATE TO BE A PART OF MY EXPERIMENT.
Mardar: AT LEAST YOU HAVE CONFIRMED MY RESULTS. MY MAGICKS DO INDEED WORK.
«You»: What—? So you DID actually kill everyone?
Mardar: YES, I DID. AND I AM GOING TO SAVE THE ENTIRE WORLD IN JUST THE SAME WAY!
«You»: Save the world by killing everyone?
Mardar: ONLY PEOPLE, LIKE YOU AND THOSE ANNOYING MOGLOS.
Mardar: PEOPLE THAT MIGHT STEAL THE LIVES OF OTHERS! THIS WAY ALL WILL BE FREE!
«You:» What are you talking about? And who ARE you?
Mardar: RITTEG CALLED HIMSELF MY MASTER! JUST BECAUSE YOU CREATE SOMETHING TO BE YOUR SERVANT DOES NOT MAKE YOU ITS MASTER!
Mardar: HE WAS VERY WEALTHY, BUT YOU WOULD NOT KNOW IT FROM THIS HOUSE. HIS HOLDINGS WERE IN LAND AND IN COLLECTING VERY RARE THINGS.
Mardar: RARE.. LIKE THE BLOOD ORB. VERY DANGEROUS, IT IS. SO DANGEROUS THAT EVEN THOUGH HE NEEDED TO POSSESS IT—
Mardar: —RITTEG HID IT SOMEWHERE FAR FROM WHERE IT MIGHT DO HARM.
Mardar: BUT I KNOW WHERE IT IS NOW, AND RECITING A TELEPORT SPELL FROM THE SCROLL WILL TAKE ME TO IT!!
«You»: Blood Orb? What do you want with it?
Mardar: MY LITTLE SPELL THAT WIPED OUT SENTIENT CREATURES WITHIN A MILE OF THIS PLACE—
Mardar: —WILL BE MAGNIFIED A MILLIONFOLD WHEN REPEATED IN THE PRESENCE OF THE BLOOD ORB!
«You»: Wait! Don't—
Mardar:

«A red portal appears and envelops Mardar before dissipating»

«You»: Oh no... I wonder if I should have tried grabbing onto him as he teleported?
«You»: Maybe it's good that I didn't. We might have emerged from the teleport fused together into some sort of gruesome horror. *shivers*
???: grrrrrr.......
«You»: What the— Something coming up the stairs after me!

    2 RANDOM BATTLES
    Full Heal
Encounter list below
«You»: Those monsters must have been drawn to this area by the stench of death.
«You»: I need to catch up to Mardar, wherever he is. Which one of those scrolls did he read from to cast the teleport spell, though?

«Camera focuses on scrolls»

Choose a spell to read from (and hope one of them isn't a booby trap)!

IF you chose the left scroll:

«You»: Well— So far nothing's happening. Which could be good .... or bad.

«Scene: Outside the cottage. The cottage blows up. The text bar reads: "You just got blown up. Ouch!" If you die, you have to restart the quest, if not continue as below.»

«You»: I think I'm going to need a potion.... or two...

    1 RANDOM BATTLE
    Full Heal
Encounter list below
«You»: What am I supposed to do now? There's no way for me to track Mardar down...

«The other scroll flies down»

«You»: ....... What luck!

Click on the scroll!

«Clicking on the scroll, a red portal will envelop your character before dissipating.»

«Scene: BattleOn! A small red portal appears in the mountains in the background.»
«Scene: Your character in the forests.»

IF you chose the right scroll:

«You»: Well— So far nothing's happening. Which could be good .... or bad.

«Scene: BattleOn! A small red portal appears in the mountains in the background.»
«Scene: Your character in the forests.»

Everything else is the same from hereafter.

«You»: Why would Mardar teleport HERE? Well no sense standing around. There MUST be some sign of where Mardar went from here...

    2 RANDOM BATTLES
    Full Heal
Encounter list below
«Scene: Deeper in the forests»

«You»: Come ON— Where is he??

«A powerful blast rupturing the ground to the right of your character, an orb is blasted skyward out of the hole, surrounded by an aura.»

«You»: Whoa!! That was a lot of power being released. I think I know where Mardar is...

Click on the arrow to enter the hole.

«Scene: Cave.»

    2 RANDOM BATTLES
    Full Heal
Encounter list below
«Scene: A red globule floats in the caves. Your character enters the scene.»

«You»: ......... That must be it. The Blood Orb. Yuck! Is it actually MADE of blood?!

«Mardar flies in and grabs hold of the Orb.»

Mardar: YES, IT IS. THE BLOOD OF 12 ELEMENTAL ARCHMAGES.
«You»: 12? There are the 8 elements. Then... Void? What other elements ARE there?
Mardar: BACON. AND POSSIBLY FEAR. COULD MANA BE CONSIDERED AN ELEMENT? BAH! IT MATTERS NOT.
Mardar: WHAT MATTERS IS THAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO WITNESS THE DEATH OF MILLIONS OF BEINGS!!
Mardar: AAAHHHHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!!
«You»: Not really. Won't I die, too, if you cast this spell?
Mardar: THAT WOULD BE GOOD, BUT NO. BEING NEAR THE BLOOD ORB WILL PROTECT BOTH YOU AND I.
Mardar: BUT DO NOT FRET. I WILL GET AROUND TO KILLING YOU NEXT...
Mardar:

«Ethereal red skulls float up the screen. In BattleOn!, Eukara Vox, Aria, Galanoth, Twig and Warlic die, falling over with "X"'s replacing their eyes.»

«You»: You --- you— monster!
Mardar: DO NOT HATE THE PLAYER. HATE THE GAME! AHAHAHAAAHHAAA!!!
Mardar: NOW, I BELIEVE I WAS JUST ABOUT TO END YOU, AS WELL...
«You»: Wait— Before you do that, answer me this: Let's just say that you accidentally killed someone you didn't WANT to kill. What would you do then?
Mardar: WHY I WOULD SPEAK THE RUNES TO REVERSE THE SPELL—
Mardar: — AND THEN MAKE SURE THE INDIVIDUAL I WANTED TO PROTECT WAS NEAR THE BLOOD ORB WHEN I RE-CAST THE SPELL!
«You»: And where might those specific runes be found—?
Mardar: WHY, RIGHT NEXT TO THE TELEPORTER RUNE SCROLL IN MY MASTER RITTEG'S HOUSE. MY EX-MASTER, I SHOULD SAY. HA!
«You»: Okay, let's get this over with. You and me— mana a mano!! Or beast-o.
Mardar: YES! NOW, YOU WILL JOIN THE OTHER BILLIONS WHO HAVE PERISHED THIS DAY!!

«You»: Hmmm... I suppose that makes me the last living sentient creature on Lore.
«You»: I could get very used to being lonely... or...
«You»: I could save everyone!! I think I know what I want to do.

    Save the World!
Can you remember the spell runes from the scroll in Ritteg's home that must be recited to undo the Blood Orb's horrible power??

«You»: Uhh.... That wasn't it. I can't give up now!

«You get dealt a portion of damage and the opportunity to re-roll.»

«If you succeeded or succeeded in Defying your roll:»

«You»: Hopefully it worked! Now to go find out... I think I'll just leave the Blood Orb down here until I can get Warlic's opinion on what we should do with it.

«Scene: Outside Yulgar's Inn, Aria's Pet Shop and Warlic's Magic Shop in BattleOn! Your character walks in.»

«You»: Hello? Anyone??
«You»: This doesn't look promising...

«Eukara Vox, Aria, Galanoth, Twig and Warlic enter.»

«You»: YOU'RE ALL ALIVE!
Galanoth: «You», please, for my sake, stop being so happy.
Aria: So YOU are the one who brought us back from the dead?? THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!
Aria: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Warlic: As far as I have been able to surmise, some force cast an Ultimate Death spell across Lore specifically attuned to sentient, thinking beings.
«You»: Right on the money, Warlic. By the way, the object that allowed the spell to be cast all over Lore is called the Blood Orb. I was wondering what should be done with it.
Eukara Vox: Whatever that thing is, it's dramatically OP'd.
Warlic: Indeed. I say we KILL IT. KILL IT WITH FIRE!!
