@Star, Road of The Patriarch follows the story of Artemis Entreri, an Assassin and Jarlaxle, a Drow Mercenary as they venture into a Walled City ruled by King Garreth who is aided by his 7...or 6 friends all of whom are various classes. A Priest, a Ranger, a Wizard, a badass Sage who knows Kung-fu and chi-locks(kinda), a Knight, etc.

Basically, Artemis and Jarlaxle had killed a Dracolich in the prequel for which King Garreth was to awar them the honor of Knight of the Order and uhh....I don't remember Jarlaxle's title. But the King, his wife and his friends are not happy because....duh...he's an infamous Assassin in the company of a Drow Merc. Artemis also allegedly murdered Gareth's niece in the prequel so he bears a silent grudge against the Assassin.

As it happens, by the end of the book, Entreri manages to face off against the King's friends and almost kills the Ranger when the badass Sage intervenes and chi-locks Entreri.

Dragged away to Prison. Blah blah blah.... Release....

Blah blah blah...

You gotta read it to better understand it.

The prequel is where a party of warriors travels to a Sentient Fortress to kill the Dracolich. Artemis and Jarlaxle are a part of that party, and so is Gareth's niece.

So basically, an Anti-Hero.

What say?

@Arthur: Are you suggesting we make a RP similar to that, or make a RP about that specifically?

While you would be allowed to make an RP in that universe(as the new Rules allow), I strongly discourage you from doing that as there is every possibility to cross invisible lines.

So something similar to that is what you guys'll have to pull off.

Wonderful ideas guys! I've started coming up with my own now, gods forbid.

I've found that usually, pirates are well recieved as a theme in RPs, so maybe we could start with something like that? With a sea full of islands, naval wars, pirates and sea-monsters, there's usually a bit of room for every kind of RP style. Navy battles, PvP on ships, linear quests for gold, free roam, the like. Plus, it wouldn't even be necessary to be a pirate. You could join any number of kingdom's navies, and go on any kind of quest so long as it stays in the area of the sea and her islands, as well as the lands bordering the sea.

@TJ
About the dice roll thing, that's too much of a vulnerability to god-modding. Anyone could lie and say they rolled a high score. Unless you can find a multiplier online dice game, it wouldn't work.

@Starstruck
A simple start would be a good one, but we'll also need something PvP, because there are plenty of people who enjoy PvP, as well as people who are really into linear. If we can set up those two sorts of RP, we may attract more RPers. I've had an idea for a Free-Roam/Contest/War RP, but I'm not entirely sure if it'd be good.

A less loved RP sort is Academy RPs. Vanguard lasted pretty long though, and we could probably put some more like that in. For Academy though, the best setting might just be GEARS University, if we can pull that off.

If we're making stuff out of certain universes, I vote LOTR.

@Legendium: I mentioned a pirate roleplay a while ago (about a year or so ago) and people seemed to have liked the idea of one. I never hosted one, partly because it would be fairly hard to do one. Also, there is an online dice roller, and yeah, it saves your rolls and stuff. You can even put names and titles and such... I don't know the name of it, but Prator the Legendary (I think) used it on his roleplay The Island. Also, I'd love to see your free-roam/contest/war RP.

I think a simple 'fellowship' roleplay would be nice. Basically, our characters are all part of some group and it is our job to accomplish a task (or set of tasks). We'd have to work together, use our strengths, compliment our weaknesses, and stuff like that to tackle any challenge the Game Master throws at us. If we instead work solo, don't collaborate, etc, our characters will fail. So it's almost a MUST that we work together.

Think of a Fellowship roleplay as a Lord of the Rings roleplay for example. We're all part of the Fellowship and we all have to work together to tackle anything the GM sends at us. Wargs? Goblins? Legolas could kill some Wargs, so could Aragorn, but neither could survive an entire horde alone. However, if Aragorn and Legolas work together, and Gimli, Gandalf, Boromir, etc work together, they can get through it and they can kill the wargs.

Alright, you know what, I'm casting my vote for a FELLOWSHIP roleplay!

@TJ, I concur.

However, do hear me out.

Restricting the RP to a concrete "Strength in Numbers" theme where playing solo will definitely get you killed might serve to irritate a few RPers. Here's why:

1. While engaging actively in collaborations is always encouraged, turning an RP solely into a cesspool of collaborations might make it too monotonous and heavy on individual RPers as they break out of one collab only to get stuck in another. I see sticky gears. Do consider individual exploration and battling to some extent. It will definitely help those who are more of lone riders, like me.

Secondly, the "throw everything at them once in a while" again makes the RP Plot look shallow and weak, as if, all the RPers want is to fight together. A solid plot, perhaps?

What you suggest will act better as a learning experience for new RPers who want to learn about Collaboration, Battle and Situation Handling, IMO. But I'll leave that to Jars.

@Jars: Now that I think about it, you make a good point Arthur. But we could work around those problems, it wouldn't be to much of a hassle. Not necessarily the collaboration you're thinking of. Just like this:

Scenario:
Flying man-eating falcons
2 Lumbering ogres
horde of goblins

The team would have to work together to handle it. All the archer-based characters should get to high ground and take out the falcons. The more agile-based warriors should fight the ogres. The more tank-like warriors face the goblins. Just simple stuff like that, not necessarily back-and-forth private messaging and such, cause that IS monotonous.

And every now and again the party could split up, perhaps the lightly armored ones could ride ahead and scout the area while the others setup a camp. Perhaps one of those scouts gets into a solo battle, nothing significant. Maybe he gets captured, forcing the party to make a decision: Save our friend at the expense of the greater quest (like a race against time), or leave our friend to die so we can have more time to save the world (just an example).

More emphasis on teamwork and majority-decisions rather than battling 24/7. Who should we send out scouting? Who should go hunting? Who should dive down and retrieve the item? Who could hold those guys off so we can defeat the main boss? Who's more fit to do this, and who's more fit to do that? Should we go under, around, or over the mountain?

I like stuff like that. A group of friends on an adventure, and our actions determines the path we take. But no matter what, all paths lead to one result: the conclusion. But that conclusion may be different depending on the choices we made in the journey (who did we choose as our allies, who were our enemies, who did we kill, who did we spare, who died in our group, etc).

But I doubt I'd be a host, I never quite finish my roleplays. Funny fact: I've never got past the introduction in any roleplay I've ever participated in or hosted.

Honest.

Sure, now could 'my time', but I'd rather Jars, TD, and Ryu pick the more-experienced roleplayers to start us off. There are plenty of roleplayers out there with more decent ideas I am sure. Perhaps when we get traction and stuff?

Meanwhile, a map shall be made! And lore, we need lore! Here's hoping it's not a rip-off of LotR!

Thanks for the correction Mirai, I knew I was probably wrong.

Anway, though I was not in the RP, I remember reading through it and stuff. I took great interest in it, but never managed a good replica.

Also, I'd love to see your free-roam/contest/war RP.

I've actually been thinking more about that one, and it's become more appealing than before. The PvP part is an arena kind of thing, but the whole story behind everything takes place outside of the walls of the arena too, in three feuding kingdoms, Kingdoms Valour, Wisdom and Night. (You can see I'm going Welcome to the clubs-ish in this direction) Each have three duelist guilds as well, and the people from these guilds compete with each other in an annual gigantic competition in a fourth central kingdom known as the Kingdome, a kingdom centered around a gigantic Colosseum in which all the guild members compete. The three kingdoms are at war, and the normally peaceful people of the Kingdome will lend their strength to the winner's kingdom, and their guild will win a place of glory for until the next competition. The free-roam in this resides in the country itself, with adventurers who eventually discover information about something hostile and extremely dangerous. My only condition is that it culminates near the Colosseum in the Kingdome, just so that the PvP players tie in with the free-roamers in the end. The armies could also tie in by having to set their differences aside to overcome this danger.
*takes breath* And that's about it.

@Legendium: That's something worth developing I guess. I never really got into "Welcome to the Clubs" myself though.

I want to go for a fellowship roleplay about a group of adventures and there quest to slay a dragon.

But that sounds very familiar, right? The Hobbit. Which kind of puts me off, cause I try my best to create something that is original only to find out it's been before. Sometimes I wonder, "can anything else be done?" Of course I know it can, there's an infinite amount of possibilities, but it's hard to find one that hasn't been done before - and that is worth doing.

Anyway, I want a roleplay like this: "Okay, you guys are a group; you start here, and you must get here to slay this dragon. Along the way, you must decide your path, work together, and overcome the obstacles I throw at you on your quest. Now go at it!"

Here's point A, get to point B in whatever way you can - all the while I will be the game master throwing challenges at you.

EDIT: In other words, I am the narrator. You guys will be trekking along, I will describe the environment, the wildlife, the sounds, the characters, etc, and you will interact with it.

@TJ

That's a good idea. Linear RPs are always good, and if you want to slay a dragon, I've got an idea for you that ought to make it less similar to the Hobbit. By making the players have to collect key objects along the way, maybe even keys themselves, (To open the dragon's stronghold) you can make the RP more original and long lasting.

I got an idea. There's this knight named Victus, and he and his men attacked and killed a dragon. But they changed. They ordered construction of a massive fortress on the mountain, and for a hundred years were never seen of heard from again.

Now in the present, Karn Victus (Karn being a title of dragonkind) and his Dragonguard are cooking up trouble throughout the land. A group of adventurers must band together to take down the Dragonguard and Karn Victus forever.

The Dragonguard are... well, should I say "rivals" of the party. I don't have a number yet, but they will be equal in number to the party. Karn Victus himself is no longer 'Victus', but someone or something else entirely. Dragons, demons, duels, battles, adventure, and fellowship await! :p

This might sound crazy but perhaps, we might be going to take down a whole Order of Black/Dark/Evil/Corrupt Knights/Kings/Warriors etc.

Like, each Knight with his own theme/element/forte/talent that'll test our individual characters to their limits.

Good idea Arthur, but I was planning on making the Dragonguard alternatives to the player-characters. Of course, like you said, each one could have their own theme and such.

Haha, well I don't know if I am a potential host yet. But I wasn't really planning on hosting one right off anyway, I was planning on participating a lot.

Therefore I'd encourage you all to start thinking of some good roleplays that I could join. I've never got past the intro to a roleplay, and I'd like to actually finish one for once!
