great, more tanking in the game for heal looping infernal android mercs.
or BHs.

people can use the "wasting a turn" excuse
but if my robot, heal/aux/gun are in cooldown and i have no strong attacks available, then i use the core.

same for caster tech mages.

theres a period in battle where plasma bolt, aux, assimilation, or field medic aren't available. i can use it then.

I am only ask you that because there are people who used focus builds before they were the dominating build and continued to use them whether they were popular or not yet you make it sound like those people are mindless zombies because they are using something they actually liked. That was my point I was bringing up.

i used max SS IA TLM, 98% build back in delta when no one else used it.
started using it in omega and people copied it.

now im a caster mage.
i switched because i didn't wanna be a part of the sheep herd and be bored.

 ^TM at his best still use a focus build like evry other class.Most of players prefer focus for obious reason (apart from it to be overpowered) it is the only way to use a good tank build (apart from caster tm)

Caster tech mage > 5 Focus tech mage.

i have gotten 87%-90% with caster tech mage (although in small volume, still pretty high %)

 Not if people uses good well timed emp.Then you just can t win.The win % doesnt always say the truth on power: some builds have high win rate just because most of players dont use emp ( a skill that needs more knowlage to be used propely).

i sometimes get EMPed (not low EMPs either) twice and still win.
and a 2nd EMP only happens if i let it get to that.

its all on how you use your build.

 I never emp twice it resoult a suicide in most of the cases but if i use it at the right moment and keep my dmg high (with the sure 1st turn) even the best casters can t do much.

if ur going to wait anymore than 3 turns to use ur EMP, ur gonna have a hard time with energy later as i have 3 energy drainers.

but to give u a perspective on my build.

lvl 2 plasma bolt does 70 damage. (pretty much guaranteed 50+ on rage)
super charge will also hit in the 50s

i have lvl 8 assimilation (takes 15 energy)
frostbite core, and energy shot.

I have to agree with goldslayer about focus 5 TM < caster TM. I used a focus 5 TM for the longest, and whenever I have to battle a caster TM on my level I have always been at a disadvantage. While I can beat them it is extreme hard for me to do so with or without luck, but at the same time having a build that my build has trouble against is a good thing IMO since that is an actual sign of balance with builds.

you have no idea how often assimilation mages will just swoop your mana and take it, even emp grenade is useless, the fact that plasmabolt takes such a low level with high tech to inflict 70+ damage is amazing, and it's every 2 turns as well, so it's a no brainer that tech mages will have time to rage it

if its right before my super charge, then i will probably have rage after that. in which plasma bolt would most likely be cooled down.

my assimilation alone can cover my plasma bolt. after its used.

and for me atleast, i have not lost to many sword tlms/mercs.
and barely (if any) lost to BMs.

 Since long time between 2 tech mages the one having the lowest tech is in serious disvantage but when facing other focus builds the assimilation, while u worm up the dmg of ur IA and use the bolt high, focus is deadly.
If u win better on bm and sword tlm/mercs it is ofcourse because these are the ones that cant emp.

my IA already deals about 34 damage with 0 focus on my caster mage.
if i cant rage plasma bolt, im raging IA.

The fact that the infernal android's laser can do more then100% damage after 4 turns, and the fact that you are using a caster TM (which has High tech which most caster TM's usually have) along with the fact that you are using the laser with rage which ignores 45% of defenses would add up to the infernal android even with 0 focus packing somewhat more of a punch then the other bots when used with rage.

 When I emp 46 u can only rage a very low lvl bolt and if you are using arzels i m just healing up before you use it.

u probably only have a 1 time use on that EMP then.

most people who use EMP twice have low lvls ones. not high lvl ones.

in any case, my energy configuration is set up so i can use super charge in 4th, and rage bolt on 5th. even if im not attacked after super charge.
so it can make for some fast battles vs the inexperienced players

 the problem is that if u fit the caster build to resist emps, when they do u sometimes end up not killing them with bolts.

Caster mage is the best non-focus build , but tm 5 focus build still slightly better to me.
