I have been thinking a while about the new event. I personally think its great but what if in a saga you could choose to be the other side. Still, there will be the other side too. For example in the new Arbageddon saga, we are asked to combat Davarril spores. What if we could align with Davarril instead of Cinderella and Xraal? The outcome will be different based on who won. Just a example though. However war won't be affected since there is already 2 sides.
Edit; To prevent people to change sides, you have to align with one of the sides. So that way you cant change sides.

Well, they probably made it so with a reason.
People could change to the winning allingment a day before the end, just to be on the winning side.

People would take advantage of this..

Oh, forget to add a post about restriction just like the infernal war. Here's how it works: So you allign yourself with one of the sides and you cant change sides.
