Going to repost my first quote about the story from the original thread here for reference/convenience. I will probably do the same with my other quotes, but I don't want to spam the thread with one super long post, so I'll post the other ones later. quote:
As a player who tends to join games because of the story, that's exactly what my main focus in AQW is: Storyline. And I used to be so enthralled with the storylines of AQW, the humor, the wit, the parodies, the fourth wall breaking, I loved every second of it. I especially enjoyed the Doomwood sagas, the AQW Zombies saga, the Xan storyline and the earlier Chaos Lord storylines, although the later ones weren't too bad either, except for the last one, in my opinion. It seemed very shoehorned and rushed, and full of inconsistencies and plot holes, and we already know that the AQW staff had to rewrite the Queen of Monsters storyline, and after around a year, they've decided to rewrite it yet again. The point is, the AQW team are very creative and have a lot of good ideas, they really do, but they aren't very flexible when it comes to the story. They can never seem to make up their mind about certain things, such as the aforementioned Queen of Monsters storyline and how it should go. Also, I'm relatively surprised us being the spoiler:
Eternal Dragon of Time/Champion of Balance hasn't had more of an impact on the story, either. Or when we did a bunch of crazy stuff as the 13th Lord of Chaos and don't even seem to be that remorseful about it. Of course, I don't think that the story shouldn't be nothing but laughs and giggles (it'd probably be out of place, actually), although I do wish more of the "old" humor from the past sagas came back in a side storyline or a couple of cutscenes or something. I know that I, and lot of players, really loved AQW and their games for their humor, and that the story was more consistent and the writers were a bit more cautious with plot holes or at least tried to address them more often, and there were more realistic character reactions, such as spoiler:
feeling remorse and guilt for our actions as the 13th Lord of Chaos and perhaps even have other characters reacting to us negatively due to our past actions as such and the whole Eternal Dragon of Time/Champion of Balance thing being more of a plot point. Also, I think it'd be pretty neat if alignment had a bit more impact on the storyline, although I am not entirely sure if that's possible, but it'd give more meaning to joining an alignment instead of doing it just for something like the alignment exclusive items. And the Book of Lore's appearance in the Doomwood saga was absolutely golden. I wish we had seen the book show up again after that. The book probably could be used as a good plot point and seemed to have a lot of interesting features, to say the least. I have more, but that's all I'll say for now. I did not mean any offense in my post, I just wanted to offer my thoughts on what I feel AQW is not doing so well at the moment.
