If we do another Nilak-style donation drive, I'd love to still actually give my gold to other players. Although... that might make doing the drive too easy... maybe pump up the difficulty or give it out at the end...

I hope this community can get along in the future and consider points we personally disagree on through rational lens rather than blatant antagonism disguised as disagreement.

AQW changed their donations this year to different tiers based on how much you donated

I also would like at least for Winter Contests to have donation tiers rather than being a top because honestly the main problem with current system is the fact that you can snipe last hour donation spots, it makes the donation process stressfull for any not big spenders and even big spenders sometimes fear the snipes that are done in the last day after seeing the top gold/z-token lists and having a good view of the current standings.

As for items, Shadowstalker items are a bit too niche for my liking, they are good as a Void option versus Freedom when you need it and that widens the useage of the items, but fighting Shadow/Shifter monsters isnt quite common, at least not in recent quests been encountering them (other than void shadow rocky and even then thats my main problem with this set, it doesnt have auto-hit so while it specialises in shadows, Shadow Rocs can still dodge all your hits/Void hits my feedback regarding them is to be made auto-hit << the weapon/weapon skill>>, if Shadowstalker was auto-hit i could see way more uses for the set)

Devourer Shield Damage over time Burn/Poison could indeed be lowered to only be for 2 turns active rather than 5 turns, following infernal armaments model where the siphon is over 2 turns and still allows stacking while being not very dragged in turns.

My main wish is Shadowstalker weapon be made auto-hit, having to sacrifice FSB you end up with no stat drive options and your accuracy would not be very boosted by any normal/common means except using subrace armour drives (which is what i was using). Devoured Earth is auto-hit i figure auto-hit for Shadowstalker would also be nice following the new auto-hit standards.

@Lorekeeper, really great job btw in making the Gold Dono set have a unique FSB! I especially love how we now have a Void option available even if it is in a somewhat limited niche way. :)

Thanks again for adding that extra flavor-effect for donators who received the complete set!

Really happy with the dono items! Since everyone else is, I’ll give my feedback too but I’ll keep it short and sweet.

Gold Shield: I agree with Jeanne. It’s one of the better/more intriguing darkness shields we have so I can’t complain, and it’s obviously very good in its niche.
Gold Weapon: Very powerful and instantly a debatable BiS darkness weapon for any FO build. I really like the design of being a freeze skill against trash mobs, and a powerful damaging skill against bosses. It makes it useful in most scenarios.
Gold Misc: Simple, yet highly effective. We don’t often get dual coverage defensive miscs. Also has synergy with the weapon. I like it.

Token Shield: Admittedly I haven’t played as much with this one, but generally anything that costs more than 500sp is generally not worth the investment, or rather I personally would just prefer to spend my SP on other stuff. Neat effect, I like the idea, the cost is just a little to high for me to actually see myself using it
Token Weapon: Very very good, probably one of my favorite pieces from the contest. Auto hit on modern standards + a useful (albeit fairly low) hp heal based on hit count. 2 good effects crammed into one weapon. Thumbs up
Token Misc: Probably my least favorite piece from the contest. Not at the fault of the design, but rather powercreep from optico. It’s a good item but overlaps with space gauntlet and optico make for a double whammy. I don’t see myself using it.

Gold Set FSB: Straight up nasty dude. I love it. It’s very strong, but not to the point where it’s blatant powercreep as the new #1 bossing strat
Token Set FSB: Also very good, and nice to see the boundaries being pushed back a little further for omni potency.

I'll leave a review as well; for context, I got everything except for the Shadowstalker (Gold) misc:

Shadowstalker misc: Very cool, I would've been happy to get it if I had done a better job of collecting gold throughout the year.

Shadowstalker weapons: Also very cool, there is of course the whole thing of "when will I be fighting shadows/shifters" but that's already been brought up and responded to. The fact that the ability does a different thing against enemies that are immune to its main thing is great, and helps it always feel good to use.

Shadowstalker shield: As above about the niche thing except this shield is leaning much harder into the niche, I tend to avoid using items that toggle like this unless I can create the condition where the toggle turns on so I can't really fairly say how much I'd like the shield. I do have mixed feelings about the concept of the shield - the point of the enemy type is that they do mixed damage so it feels weird to have a shield that makes the enemies basically just normal attackers, but also it's so hard to itemize for enemies with multiple attack types that I'd choose to have this shield every time I knew I'd be fighting an enemy like that.

Devoured misc: Earth damage/resist toggle is cool, potence is cool, FSB for bonus potence is extra cool. I feel like it does so many things to be useful in multiple different scenarios, I'm trying to find a way to fit the full set on my character just because of this item.

Devoured weapons: Updated autohit feels nice, paying damage for sustain is extremely welcome by me as well. If the numbers were to get tweaked (not that I think they should be, just since the concept has been mentioned) I would be on team "pay more damage to get more healing" and/or team "make the trigger multiplier proportionally larger like x.85:x1.3" but that's just because I enjoy spending damage for utility and setting up triggers.

Devoured shield: Concept is very cool, I'm excited about the idea of imbuing effects onto attacks. The gripes would be that the cost is pretty huge, and is split into basically 3 effects (damage, heal, bigger damage). If it were up to me, I'd either remove the burn to focus on the siphon that fits the set's theme better than the burn does and/or I'd have the imbue reduce damage dealt by some amount as a way to reduce the SP cost of the imbue itself. And in fantasy dream land I'd make it possible to have the imbue apply the poison for the rest of the battle, though it seems others would rather have higher damage over fewer turns so I imagine it'd have to be a toggle (choose the permanent imbue or the short-term 2-5x power imbue) so as to not be called useless by the players that aren't me.

Overall big fan of all the designs, I think the shield is slightly too many effects for too much cost and everyone's got an opinion on what they'd do "better" but in my eyes it was a very successful contest.

Maybe it's because of my lack of reliance on potency for status infliction but the praise the misc gets is strange. For what it cost to get, I'm sorry but potency for already easy to inflict statuses isn't worth. It's mediocre at best. I think the boost to earth and x.5 resist for earth damage is also boring. For a set of gear focused on burn and poison heal why wasn't it decided for the fsb to maybe double or even triple effect damage? -20 potency could be the default amount. wouldn't be uncommon, just compression for the statuses.

My mind may change but right now I regret donating. And yes I will admit my reason for giving was purely for my own benefit. Thought I could get something good.

This would help.

As was mentioned above several times, can we please get rid of the current system and move to milestone based one? Like Dreiko mentioned, the way its set up right now people start hoarding for the contest months beforehand which completely defeats the purpose. It’s also a huge disadvantage right from the start if you don’t have multiple guardian accounts to receive the donations on. I farmed before the contest started but just could not keep up with how many donations others were getting. This just ruins the whole experience and makes it stressful as was mentioned

So, maybe I'm missing something, but what does being a qc Imbue bring to the shield's skill?

Wouldn't it look better if it was a compressed SPell that just paid a turn and 40% melee sp to inflict weapon element burn/poison?

So I think some might be a bit excited about the updated "balanced auto hit", and outside of somehow using auto hit vs an undefeatable boss scenario, it feels like it's misplaced and lacks common sense.

The stat revamp making bth so heavily dependent on main stat IMO made auto hit essentially pointless, no matter what the damage reduction is...6, .8, who cares?

When you can stack multiple +main stat boosts as well as NYS as an option, you're well into auto hit territory w/o losing damage. I mean, arcane amp/buffalot's +105 is already +15.75. This is 100%+ accuracy by itself unless the monster has a blocking lean. Need more mainstat ? +50 shield, +50 misc. That +100 is +15 more bth. SO arcane amp/buffalot + a shield and misc is +30.75 bth. Maybe instead of a +50 mainstat misc you can just use a BTH misc for even more?

Oh, that's not enough? NYS is what another 16 or 17 (i think depends on your main stat but at this point it's overkill.) All these stat damage stacks not only helps your bth but your damage, so why use a damage penalty weapon for no reason?? No resources spent? Um, they're easily gained back. Staff can change auto hit to w/e standard they choose, it's a useless idea.

So I just am quite confused. Excited to use versus like 1, 2 monsters with 500 stats or something? Maybe someone has some insight that I just don't see. (doubt it) You can get auto hit without it being coded as auto hit with the stat revamp everyone. smh

Ooooh, a new Spellcaster lean armor. Those are always nice.

I do appreciate the ongoing commitment to retelling Norse mythology in recent holiday events. One of these days we're gonna have to hear the story of how Loki Loco gave birth to a horse.

(Yes, that's real, look it up.)

Just finished the quest:

spoiler:

I actually didn't know that Loco was a parody of Loki. We're told that the Asguard Pantheon used to make its home at Thunder Mountain, where presumably Krenos calls home now. I'm wondering if something happened between Krenos and Fjolnir that caused them to leave or if Krenos came in afterwards.

Also nice that we get to see a little bit of the Jotun lands. The whole northern part of the map is kind of mysterious so it would be nice to be able to have a quest saga for this year.

Either way, the namedrop of Thunder Mountain gives us more or less a perfect segway to an update of the Asguardian Set if that's in the works.

He's been that for a while now. Being a personification of Fortune seems to be an original invention but his backstory is pretty much ripped straight from Loki. He was imprisoned for hitting Baldric with a water balloon missile, while Loki was killed for killing Baldr with mistletoe.

The 2021 event "Utgard, Loco!" is pretty much a straight retelling of the story of the (confusingly-named) Jotunn, Utgard-Loki. Amusingly, *that* event actually has the Chosen playing the role that Thor did in the original myth.

The Youtube channel Overly Sarcastic Productions did a pretty neat retelling of that myth, if you're interested. Needless to say there's a *lot* of material with Loki in the Poetic Edda and Prose Edda to draw from for future holiday events.

It's always nice to see recurring characters instead of meeting one-off strangers that would never pop up again. The quest was quite enjoyable, though it did raise some questions. Namely, how did the Norse demigods rule over Thunder Mountain (which is in the southern side of the map) while they were supposed to live in the far north?

The armor reward is a shocking surprise to be sure. Stylish and powerful, how can one ask for more?

Loco's family didn't live in the Far North -- That was the Frost Giants of the now splintered khanates of Jotunheim. The family itself was part of a human interregnum of Thunder Mountain during the absence of the original dragon lineage (Krenos's ancestors), and they were not demigods themselves. Among them, only Loco is known to have become a demipower, while Odin (Who began to go by the other names of the deity he references) eventually became a Communicant of the Energy Lord.

As of the Eternal Champion Set, Kamui has been looking at that in his off time. He'll be able to implement the planned changes after he replaces his broken work computer and catches a less busy week to do so.

2 cents on the contest:

1. To potentially eliminate sniping, I'd suggest a fixed number of donations per day. It'd replicate real donations in that people don't collect donations 24/7, and that there is no sniping IRL either. It should go without saying that the maximum allowable quantum should be increased.

2. For an event that's available to all types of players, adventurers have objectively no chance at the prizes. The only incentive they have is the stretch goal, and that was introduced later in the contest. It's an apples-to-oranges, heaven-and-earth, night-and-day comparison between guardians and adventurers. On top of setting aside a leaderboard for adventurers, I'd suggest it be milestone based as well. The event as is rewards players who are well prepared and dedicate some level of effort, so what reason is there for adventurers to try, and what reason is there for hardworking adventurers to go unrewarded for their generosity, time and effort as well?

This is completely untrue.

Let's do a bit of basic math to squash all the claims that these contests are P2W.

Gold
Assuming you have 1 Guardian char and 9 Adventurers
Guardian daily gold cap = 100m
Adventurer daily gold cap = 22m
So 1 day you can farm ~298m. Multiply that by 365 days and you can farm ~108b in 1 year. Just half that amount is more than enough to put you comfortably in top 30 for the contest without even needing to worry about the sniping problem.

Assuming you have no Guardians and 10 Adventurers
Adventurer daily gold cap = 22m
So 1 day you can farm ~220m. Multiply that by 365 days and you can farm ~80b in 1 year. Once again, half that amount is more than enough to comfortably secure a top 50 spot.

All these aren't even including the donations that you will receive from others which you can use to donate back as well as the bonus gold we usually get for memorial week.

Z Tokens
Assuming you have 1 Guardian char and 9 Adventurers
Guardian daily token cap = 50
Adventurer daily token cap = 25
So 1 day you can farm ~275 tokens. Multiply that by 365 days and you can farm ~100k in 1 year. This is not including the overcapped amount which can go up to 59 per day for guardians and 34 per day for adventurers. Around 60k was needed to secure a spot in top 50 for this year's winter donation contest.

Assuming you have no Guardians and 10 Adventurers
Adventurer daily token cap = 25
So 1 day you can farm ~250 tokens. Multiply that by 365 days and you can farm ~91k in 1 year. This is not including the overcapped amount which can go up to 34 per day for adventurers.

All these aren't even including the donations that you will receive from others which you can use to donate back.

Conclusion
So this proves that EVERYONE has the capability of getting top 50 for both gold and token winter donation contests without spending a SINGLE CENT as long as they put in a moderate amount of effort. You don't even need 10 chars or cap every single day to achieve that target. The only contest that is truly P2W and that there is no chance for 100% F2Ps is top 50 for the summer token donation contest. But if you put in the work and max farm everyday, you can achieve both top 100 in the summer token donation contest as well as top 50 in the winter token donation contest even if you are super unlucky and don't receive a single donation.

I've seen many people whining recently that they have no chance to win because they don't spend and this is completely untrue. If you are lazy and don't want to put in the effort to grind and also don't want to spend money, then why are you deserving of these rewards over others who have put in the time and effort or money?

The rate at which the donation amounts change makes it impractical if not impossible for the casual player. Yes you can gold cap daily, possibly make it but that's not fun. The rewards from an event meant to focus on generosity should be for everyone, not limited to the top 150. I'd say the competitive nature around getting exclusive rewards is to blame for the eventual disappointment when you miss the cut.

The token donation wins are certainly in favor of those who spend. I'm certain F2P cannot compete unless there's previous saved tokens like what happened for me. Looking back I would have been better off keeping my tokens.

If your success depends on the gold and tokens you're gifted it can't be called your own efforts can it? The system is just flawed. No need to excuse it.
