The standard turn of a warrior or ranger build has an additional 10% melee added to its damage thanks to weapon specials (8*1.25, so still 10% for no-procs). That's 100% melee per battle. Mages get an average of 7.5% per turn with their weapon procs and are only expected to use their weapons 8 turns out of ten, so that's 60% total. 40% melee remains unaccounted for. *** To account for this discrepancy, I propose adding Spell Specials, each about twice the power of a melee weapon special. That's 20% chance for 1.5x damage, 10% for 2x damage, and so forth. Alternatively, it can go mp recovery or inflict a lasting effect. This ought to make spells a touch more interesting.
