An interesting premise, but guest usage in DF is an exotic thing to the point that it's practically reduced to a means of amplifying the immersion into the story that is wished to be told. And speaking of story, your reliance on the Dragon as a guest will backfire on you. We may not have had a titan fight (yet), but you'll be spending a significant amount of time of Book 3's final arc unable to guest the Dragon due to a pair of mandatory non-dragon guests (and that's not including a certain Doom-oriented arc that forbids us from accessing our Dragon in any form a time in that arc for storytelling's sake). Plus, in case you missed the memo, we are no longer able to guest the Dragon mid-quest anymore unless the quest does it for us. If you were guesting the Dragon because you have full control of its skills and whom you wish to sic 'em at, you can get the same result by just toggling on the Manual Pet Actions setting in the Options menu. Sure, you'll likely to argue that you'll feel some DPT fluctuations due to the difference between the base damage multipliers of a guest and pet dragon, not to mention that your Li'l Inferno III and any other pet you'll try to collect will barely or not see the light of day, those are negligible in the bigger picture, and you won't have to worry about the Dragon being incapacitated mid-fight (much. There are currently a few fights that can punish pet presence). The gap in power and reliability between a regular pet and our Dragon is still heaven and earth.
