I got to 100 momentum (ergo, 100 battles) and kept fighting things for about an hour past that. I'd estimate at LEAST 200 battles, which was around 6 hours ago as of typing this, yet the leaderboard only lists me at barely over 60 battles. Did I do something wrong, or does the leaderboard really take THAT long to update?

If you reached your daily gold cap or XP cap then war wins don't count.

I don't think that's true. I have Guardian Gains going overnight, every night, so I start every day already capped. I did the aforementioned run after already hitting my gold cap for the day. If hitting the cap mattered, NONE of those battles would have counted, but the game counted me at 60+.

I don't know anything about Guardian Gains. If you're getting 0 gold from battles then those don't count for war wins. It has always been that way.

Sending armies seems to be bugged, so there might be something else wrong too.

Guardian Gains is the game's idle rewards system. Start it, and in about 10 hours, it will have gained the gold/exp cap for the day for you. I start it just after midnight so that by the time I'm awake in the morning, Gains has already farmed my gold cap for the day. Literally EVERY war mob I have fought has been for 0/0 gold/exp, and yet some of those mob wins counted. If it's true that you have to get gold/exp from the mob for it to count, then something funky is happening.

As for sending armies, I haven't participated in a war before. How is that INTENDED to work? I've sent armies from my house before. Averages maybe 60 kills per attempt. It doesn't look like the kills my armies get count as MY kills on the leaderboard, so it looks like it's JUST for gold/exp and no other benefit. Is there supposed to be more to it?

Try not using Guardian Gains. That seems to be the problem.

Armies don't count towards individual kills, they show up on your character page though. Players have wanted a separate leaderboard/reward for army wins for awhile but nothing has ever come of it.

They are basically used to make the war go faster, the amount of mobs to get 100% is too high with just regular battles. Wars used to take way too long before they added armies.
If you send armies after hitting the daily cap, you still receive the gold/exp so you can surpass the cap. If you send them before then that means less individual kills.
I don't know your estate so I can't tell if you have the most efficient method for using armies. You don't have to use them of course, it's up to you.

Capped character participation isn't counted towards war progress. Whatever you claim to experience should not happen. Army/Guard kills might be an exception but it's been years since I bothered using them. If you want to get more war wins skip guardian gains.

Battles no longer save if you would gain 0 XP, Gold, and Z-Tokens.

Okay, people keep saying "That shouldn't happen", so....why is it happening? You can check for yourself. The character name is "Vegito". I have 63 logged kills. Yet not a SINGLE kill I have done in the war fights has netted me any gold or exp. Maybe it counts only when I gain z-tokens after battle? Though, I doubt that, because I deeeeefinitely did not get 63 token rewards after battles.

EDIT #1: Also, one question about house guards. How do they factor into the results? Does the number of guards you currently have make any meaningful difference to the resulting kills/rewards, cost of sending them out, etc? Does the QUALITY of the guards matter? Again, I've never done a war properly before, so the little nuances are still things I need to discover, and aren't explained in wikis anywhere I could find.

EDIT #2: I'm currently up to 88 kills despite not gaining gold or exp from any of them.

EDIT #3: I did one wave (4 battles), waited about 30 minutes, and now I'm up to......106...?

 People are not saying you are wrong or lying. War wins only count if you have not hit your gold cap - if you have capped they *should not* be logging as official war wins. This means if you are certain that you are not mistaken then you are experiencing a very unusual bug, which could definitely be stemming from Guardian Gains. Only way to get a better understanding is to try and isolate the issue. Just to be clear, you hit your caps on guardian gains every single day and after you’ve capped both your xp and gold, you go to fight in the war and some wins count and some wins do not count? And you are not capping and then playing through the server reset? Is there a common denominator here or something that remains constant specifically when a Win counts or when a Win does not count? Of is it completely random some wins

I wasn't meaning to suggest that people are calling me wrong or dishonest. I was just saying that people kept saying "The game is supposed to operate a specific way" without really discussing why it's NOT operating that way in my situation. Repeating the same information isn't really helping figuring out why that information DOES NOT seem to be applying to me. To answer your questions in order...

1) Correct. The first thing I do every single day is use Guardian Gains to hit the gold cap. I start the process at about midnight EST, Guardian Gains (GG, for short) maxes out by about 10am the next morning, I collect my capped gold amount in one lump sum whenever I get around to checking the game, and then proceed to do whatever else in the game I need/want to do that day. All of my in-game activities occur AFTER hitting the daily gold cap, every single day, without exception.

2) No, the battles I have stated have all been between when I collected the GG gold cap and midnight the same day. The time I spent getting to 100 momentum and then playing for an hour past that happened between approximately 9-11pm, well AFTER collecting my capped GG rewards and well BEFORE the server reset, as I am in the same timezone as AE headquarters. The daily limits reset at 12 midnight sharp, for me.

3) As for common denominators, it's hard to tell since I don't know how regularly the leaderboards update. My previous message has several edits because I was trying to figure out exactly what the common denominator was by doing different amounts of waves and waiting a short while for the leaderboard to update. Did my battle count only go up for battles I earned tokens from? Well, it went up 25 kills despite me DEFINATELY not getting 25 token battles, so...maybe some battles from earlier hadn't been tallied since last time I checked and those got bundled into the most recent set? But even that in mind, I still DEFINITELY did not get 25 token battles today in TOTAL, let alone the last few hours. So where did those 25 battles come from? I did a 1-wave round comprised of 4 battles, waited about 30 minutes, checked the leaderboard, and suddenly SHOT up 18 battles. So CLEARLY the leaderboard isn't updating all that quickly since there's no way 4 battles translated into 18 kills unless it's only just now counting battles from hours prior. The (seemingly massive) delay on the leaderboard makes it difficult to test what battles are and are not counting.

I won't do GG tomorrow (midnight is 3 and a half hours from now) and see if NOT doing GG causes every battle to count. For the sake of logging this, I will say this in advance: I will do a FIVE-wave battle, which should be 20 battles, note how many battles give tokens, then immediately check the leaderboard, then do no battles for 4 hours, then check the leaderboard again and post the results.

You don't need to wait for the leaderboard to update. Click your name on the leaderboard for your character page or click the button in town.

Your character page updates your kill count immediately. Open it, check the numbers, then close it.

Also, if you encounter the chest with the Blade of Awe pieces in the war, then that doesn't count as a kill.

^^^That helps a lot. I just tested. 106 before testing, I did one wave. 4 battles. None of them gave gold. 1 was an Awe chest. 1 of them gave tokens. Checked again, my total kills is......108.

.........................................................................Huh? TWO? The only two battles that were similar were the one where I DIDN'T get tokens. THREE non-chest battles, one gave tokens, the other two gave nothing, and I gained TWO kills.

This is BEFORE the server reset on the same day as a GG cap, for the record.

EDIT: Did another wave. 4 battles. One of them was a chest (again, already?). None of them gave tokens or gold. ZERO additional kills.

That is to say, if you have NOT capped your Z-Tokens for the day, battle victories will continue to save regardless of your XP and Gold gain (or lack thereof).

For the purposes of a war, Rare Treasure Chests do not count as a kill.

That's the thing, though. They aren't. Or rather, SOME of them aren't. It's wildly inconsistent. See my previous post. One time, 4 battles gave me TWO kills, but the next 4 matches gave me ZERO kills. Unless I hit the token cap during the first set, which I don't think the game informs the player of in any way.

 In the one you tested where it increased your kills, its the one with the token reward that got saved. However your claim of only one fight giving a token reward but you got two kills is weird. But bottomline still though is that the kills that get counted are ones that gave token rewards.

So if you have capped your exp/gold through Guardian Gains, the only kills that will add to your kill count for the war are fights with token rewards since that would be the only time the game will make a "save" of some sort

Edit: One scenario comes to my mind though on how you got 2 kills on your earlier test, although I haven't really experienced this scenario myself, or if its even possible, but the wave you did wherein one had a token reward, the one with the chest MIGHT'VE had a token reward also, you might have just not noticed it especially if you are clicking fast, so that might explain why you got 2 kills after that wave

Thank you for the input, but, respectfully, I can ASSURE you that the chest run did not award tokens more than once. I know that people here have to take me at my word since it's not like I can share video footage of the game while I'm playing it, but rest assured that I am VERY thorough and promise everything I have said is entirely accurate. I notice every time I get tokens even when I'm NOT consciously testing something. The fact that I was consciously testing something means I'd be even more eagle-eyed than I normally already am.

I don't really have an explanation for it, either. It IS weird. Which is why this thread is ongoing. I theorized earlier that only the token battles counted, but that hasn't been the case in testing. I really can't think of anything else that would contribute to this. I even batted around the idea of "Maybe the enemy needs a turn for it to count?" But testing that turned up inconclusive results.

So, to summarize...

-It's not token battles. Claiming tokens does not consistently count as a kill.

-Some runs give more kills than the number of token battles in the run.

Anything else anyone can think of for me to test?

 At this point, instead of trying to get answers and wasting time waiting for said answers and getting mixed responses, how about just file a bug report at bugs.artix.com. In the first place, if you were serious about getting the FOMO rewards of an AQ war, if you remain interested in those despite the responses, you would've invested your time warring instead of lounging at Guardian Gains and relentlessly powering through the enemies to the edge of burnout.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be going back to the DF sector. We ourselves have a war to deal with as per the traditional Friday the 13th carnage.

EDIT: And for sanity's sakes, always log out-log in once 0:00 EST clicks in. Saves a lot of hassle in these games and gives your character a fresh start.
EDIT II: Apart from neglecting logging out at midnight EST (for maximum effect, strongly recommend to also close the active AQ game window after logging out) and potential effects of playing beyond reward caps for you to touch grass, before you inquire further, when was the last time you did a cache clear?

I don't think it's a bug. I can file a report, but I doubt anything will come of it.

No need to be rude. "In the first place", everything before your reply happened within the span of time between me hitting the cap with GG and midnight that day. I quite literally had nothing better to do (in the game, at least) than testing whatever was happening for the rest of the day. Today, I can focus on grinding out kills since I didn't GG to the cap.

I log out regularly. However, I've never had an issue with server resets. The gold cap always resets at midnight, sharp. By 12:01am, I can start farming gold. That has never been an issue. If I have nothing better to do in the game after collecting GG rewards, I'll turn the game off.

I genuinely don't remember the last time I cleared my cache. It has never really been necessary.

The original intention of this thread was checking to see if I missed something since I'm new to warring and didn't know all the ins and outs. However, since creating the thread, it has become more about noting that there's CLEARLY more to mob kills than gaining gold/xp/tokens, despite the initial response from the community being strongly insistent that it's the only condition. The fact that I was regularly (if not rather inconsistently) gaining kills while at the gold/xp cap and seemingly regardless of token gain suggests that there's something the game checks for that ISN'T strictly tied to the caps. Why the community NOT want to pick this apart and find out how that works?

I've asked questions like this before. Like wanting to know the exact mechanics of the claim "Log in once a day to gain a raffle ticket" leading to forum-goers agreeing that some way to track that kind of progress would be nice. The AE fandom generally likes having deep, mechanical understanding of the games they play. I don't see why wanting to know why my experience deviated from the general consensus of (what seems to be) some of the most knowledgeable players out there. If the consensus is "Kills only count if you gain gold" and my experience says otherwise, that should be something the community WANTS to look into.

Honestly, I'd be happy to give up on gaining the war rewards in order to focus on using my character as the guinea pig for figuring out what nuance in the mob kills mechanic we're missing.
