Sir Gnome -> The Nautican Amphitheatre (8/29/2007 4:21:00)

Every movement needs a place to make decisions, discuss and think about issues that could change them in the time to come, and these places range from the dark council chambers of Nocturu, to the light filled rooms where the Representatives of Lucian make their descisions. For Nautica, this is our place to enact our democratic powers, but it is also more than that. From here we will keep track of current issues, find easy links to our more long-standing threads, and have a place for general Nautican discussion.
My fellow Nauticans... I give you

The Nautican Amphitheatre

This thread can be reposted by any Nautican once we hit 30 pages (as it is an organisational thread, we enjoy the benefits of the extra 20). Anyone wanting to take on the thread however must be prepared to update it frequently - if you do not feel you can be sure you can do that, then leave it to another Nautican.

Issues for Discussion
Here we will discuss issues put forward by any Nautican. If, when you post, you could answer every issue listed here, that would be apprecaited.

  • Canu'r Delyn - The main thread. This needs bringing back to life, and we need suggestions about how to do so. This includes bringing every sub-part of it back to life
  • Nautican Thread movement - with the recent spate of thread locking, we need to find now places to do things we used to. The Nautican Suggestions is already up, but more threads need recreating - this will be by the original creator of the thread, unless they specifically state that they no longer want to run that thread. When they are created, they will be added to the list at the bottom of this post.
  • Nautican Level Tracking - Do you have any ideas about what could be done with such a thread? Post here! Idea by Fishtank.

Current Events
This will be a section listing links to events that are happening either now, or soon, but have a fixed end date. Generally, input here would be helpful sooner rather than later.

  • The Paxian Quest Design Competition. The main thread is here, but our entry has had to be moved - it can be found in the Nautican Thread in Suggestions HERE, and a copy is also on the PFs HERE.
Please do continue to contribute, we've got something really good here!

Long Standing Nautican Threads
This section gives links to, and a small overview, of threads that we hope will be around for a very long time. I know there are more than this, but these have been going the longest - when others get to perhaps their second thread, then they will be added here.

  • Canu'r Delyn - A long standing thread that Nautica is renowned for, it has many links to different places where you can exercise all types of creativity, from writing, to artwork, to philosophy
  • The Nautican Roster - Sign up here to be recognised as a Nautican Forumite! Also, new members should look at the Welcoming Comittee.
  • The Nautican FAQ - Currently run by our clan head, this is one of the most informative of the Clan FAQs. Also, you can ask questions here, and will get answers quickly from your fellow Nauticans.
  • Salty - This is where you can find our beloved clan mascot! He's currently a Sea Turtle, but when we reach our Z-Token target, he will evolve again!
  • Nautican Equipment Guide - Now this thread really IS something special. Geno and Macer have done some fantaistic work here, and this thread containes an overview of weapons that are the best throughout the game, as well as in depth descriptions of recent war rewards. Definitely worth a look!

Threads outside of the Nautica Forum

This section is the most important - seeing as Nautica is expanding further and further out of Paxia, we need a central hub for all of our activities, and this is it. From here, you will be able to access all threads concerning our great clan that aren't in the main Nautican area. As more are created, then this will be updated. We hope to eventually include things from all over the forums here, such as contests, artwork, suggestions, and more.

The Nautican Private Forums - Does what it says. Come here for private plotting, although most sections are open to non-Nauticans. Remember not to neglect these forums though!

The Nautican Suggestion Thread - Here we will be making collabarative suggestions. This means that everything we do here will have major input by several Nauticans. This means that when designing a weapon, for example, one person may do solely the stats, one person may so solely the artwork, and one person may do solely the description - the bigger the project, the more people will be involved.
For now, we are concentrating on finishing our old entry for the Paxia Wide Challenge - we will not be starting any new suggestions until that is finished, but when it is, we can start several small things simaltaneously.

Canu'r Delyn - This thread is a gateway to all of our individual creative efforts - from here you will find links to Nautican areas for creative writing, art, and philosophy.

Nautican Rating Centre - This new thread is where you can go to get your character rated by a fellow Nautican! Credit to Day Malrone for setting this up, and all the others who have volunteered to be raters Will be relinked when new thread's up

Z -> RE: The Nautican Amphitheatre (8/29/2007 5:06:07)

Stickied. Although most of you are against a council, and this is rather similar to a 'temporary council', in my opinon a thread to discuss major current events is always good.

Sir Gnome -> RE: The Nautican Amphitheatre (8/29/2007 5:13:21)

This is a method of organisation that doesnt involve elected people... and so hopefully should please everyone!

For my personal views on the For Discussion Issues: I PMed Lkeas a week or two ago about an update for the Mentor/Student thread, and although she read my message, i got no reply whatsoever, and she's done nothing to the thread... So whatever her reasons for not doing anything, it does imply that the thread isn't her top priority, so i would suggest someone else takes it over (i'd suggest Hydro, as it would compliment the Mentor/Student thread well).
In terms of Canu'r Delyn... This thread also needs to be revived, and will need updates - again, if Lkeas cannot, then we need new ownership. We will also need to ressurect the coral reef, and try and raise interest in the other threads.

Serbitar -> RE: The Nautican Amphitheatre (8/29/2007 7:08:33)

Basically, if the Welcoming comittee thread gets very bad, PM me a list of what needs updating and I update the post, PM the code to an AK who can replace the first post with an updated one.

Fishtank -> RE: The Nautican Amphitheatre (8/29/2007 8:22:48)

As I said earlier I'd be happy to be in charge of the reef, And mabye even take over Canu'r Delyn If no one else wishs to, But we should wait a little while before we change ownership from Lkeas, she may be busy, after all she is an AK.

A nautican welcoming Comittee is of course a usefull thread, however like Canu'r Delyn it is rather dead, a layer of dust seems to have settled in a lot Nautica, but I think the time has come to brush it off.

Sir Gnome -> RE: The Nautican Amphitheatre (8/29/2007 8:29:56)

Indeed. The main reason im putting forward the Lkeas thing is her ignoring of my PM... If someone else could try, and see what results they get, that would be helpful.

Serb: I was thinking of adding a couple of sections to the welcoming comittee, and a lot more links. Firstly, a 'New Forumites' but, with links to all the rules, and Newbie Help, secondly a 'New Nautican' bit, with something highlighting our really good threads like the Equipment Guide, and Canu'r Delyn, and finally a 'Returning Nautican' bit, probably only linking here, but mentioning that we've recently had council discussions etc.

Hyrdocannon47 -> RE: The Nautican Amphitheatre (8/29/2007 17:24:25)

You do mean the wecloming thread?
Yes I could do that, however, I would need the code, as well as the help of a few people on a comittie (Sp) like the last one to help send out PM's ex.

I also sent a PM to Ikeas yesterday, and I will wait till she replies, 1 week being the Max...

Lkeas -> RE: The Nautican Amphitheatre (8/29/2007 22:39:07)

I wanted to apologize for not getting back to you all sooner about transfer of ownership of the threads. As some of you may know, I got engaged recently and have started planning for my wedding, so it's been pretty busy outside of the AQ stuff! I am perfectly ok with someone else taking over my threads. It's not fair for Nautica to gather dust because one person doesn't visit often enough to contribute and keep things updated. I know there are very enthusiastic clan members who would love to do it!

I like this amphitheatre idea. It gives every Nautican a voice, as we have always encouraged. I think I'll go say as much in the council debate...

Sir Gnome -> RE: The Nautican Amphitheatre (8/30/2007 2:10:21)

Ah, that explains a lot, apologies for getting slightly impatient! Hope everything goes well with your planning [:)]

Hopefully this Amphitheatre will really take off, and become a permenant Nautica feature!

Congratulations Lkeas

P.S I think it might boost activity if we run some sort of contest, not like the Art contest we're planning but maybe writing a Nautican Anthem (rather than ripping Under the Sea), writing poetry, etc. If you think this is a good idea I'll set one up.

Lkeas -> RE: The Nautican Amphitheatre (8/30/2007 12:54:38)

I think more contests would be a fun idea; I just know in terms of creative writing Nautica has gotten into some trouble with the Legends & Lore AKs before, because all creative writing is supposed to go in the L&L forums. That's why the original Canu'r Delyn got moved. And sadly it hasn't been very active ever since then.

Perhaps the first order of business would be to get more Nauticans excited about joining the L&L forums as approved authors, so we can hold writing contests and get Canu'r Delyn active again. But yeah, all writing contests should go in that forum I believe.

There's also supposedly a collaborative fiction area just for Nautican in the L&L forum, but I don't think anybody's ever used it. It would be cool to get some Nauticans writing a story about our clan; maybe work together to come up with a history of Nautica?

Thanks all for your well-wishes! I just hope I don't turn into a bridezilla before it's all over! [:D]

birdy -> RE: The Nautican Amphitheatre (8/30/2007 16:56:40)

Yeah... I still remember when it happened... that sucked >.>

But yeah, if we tried hard enough then I do think most of us would be able to make it through the "needle eye" and become Approved Author. In some sense it's a fun challenge that we could try and complete (I know that I could try with a fairly good story but I never tried it).

As said, writing contest's (and everything to do with writing stories) belong to L&L but it would be fun to have a writing contest, y'know seeing how good people is and such ^_^

It's good that this idea have been realised and I liked the first post :D It's written quite good ^_^

Anwaw *runs to FAQ and add a link to this thread*!

EDIT: Congratulations Lkeas, I didn't know you got engaged! Hope ya will be happy (shiny rings *drools*) :D

Hyrdocannon47 -> RE: The Nautican Amphitheatre (8/30/2007 18:18:52)

So, before you leave again, do you still want to run the NWC?
Or do you want to be a Co-Leader?
Or do you want to do what was stated above?

Lkeas -> RE: The Nautican Amphitheatre (8/30/2007 18:43:24)

Well, the NWC can probably stay as is, it doesn't take much to "run" it per se, just have people welcome new members as they come in, and let me know if it needs a 10 page lock so I can start a new thread. I never thought of the committee as having a "leader" so as far as I'm concerned anybody on the committee is considered a leader.

I'm more concerned about the Coral Reef, which I just put up again but should probably be in someone else's care, since the first post needs to be regularly updated with new work as it's added.

Hyrdocannon47 -> RE: The Nautican Amphitheatre (8/30/2007 18:49:53)

Ok in that case, I don't really think that it is nessary for me to do the NWC thread...
And as for the Coral Reef, I think fishtank whould do a good job with it...
In addition do you wish to be a artist in the Art Challenge?

VonKrieger -> RE: The Nautican Amphitheatre (8/30/2007 19:11:56)

Even though we all would love to see our great poets return once more, this would be very hard to do since there are rules that forbid it so. It would be great if we could somehow come to an agreement with the Mods and by that The Place Where The Harp plays would be returned to us. I do have a few ideas for possible other Canu'r but I am not sure if they will be quite successful

Hyrdocannon47 -> RE: The Nautican Amphitheatre (8/30/2007 19:20:53)

We can always try...

A Nautican with powers beholds the starry sky
And ponders what was and is
And how they all are one
A deep abyss followed by a deepened sigh
Brings life into Canu'r Delyn
Where starry nights reflect the waters
Where the Nautican folk lie

By Ioci, the Nautican Sage

Will we sigh and stay in this abyss? Or will we rise above and bring life in to Canu'r Delyn... Where the Nautican folk should lie.

VonKrieger -> RE: The Nautican Amphitheatre (8/30/2007 19:35:29)

Rising to our former selves has always been our dream since the time of silence, but we will not be able to do so if the rules will limit us in our capabilities.
Now there are many other options for Canu'r Delyn threads but unfortunately enough they also must comply with the rules and it unfortunately limits us in our creativity

Sir Gnome -> RE: The Nautican Amphitheatre (8/31/2007 3:42:06)

Of course we can always base these things outside of the Nautican forums, and link from the main Canu'r thread, however i can see that it isn't quite the same (and im unsure if we could keep non-Nauticans out... if that was our wish).

Ultrapowerpie -> RE: The Nautican Amphitheatre (8/31/2007 8:07:39)

Ahh, finally, a place where I can finally bug Nautica's government! Now I just need Dyanmi to get something, and I'll be good. :D

Sir Gnome -> RE: The Nautican Amphitheatre (8/31/2007 8:16:11)

Oooh... two 'finally's in one sentance, and a typo in the next? Your standards are slipping Pie [;)]

Fishtank -> RE: The Nautican Amphitheatre (8/31/2007 9:58:39)

quote:

And as for the Coral Reef, I think fishtank whould do a good job with it...

I'd love to do it, I've taken the code from the reef and saved it on my computer, I'll repost it as soon as Lkeas deletes/locks the current one.

Sir Gnome -> RE: The Nautican Amphitheatre (8/31/2007 10:11:40)

Thats great, that means that all of the parts of Canu'r Delyn that everyone can access are up and running! I'm thinking about applying for The Writing Academy myself actually... Anyway, it's all good news.
One thing that i wonder about though, what is the purpose of the main Canu'r Delyn thread? If its just a links page, why don't we remake it then lock it?
