I won't go into details concerning what I or you consider wrong with this game at the present time. Their are enough threads on that subject and I believe were all in agreement.

That atmosphere within the game at the moment appears to be one of boredom and apathy with little faith that things will improve.
Even up and coming releases (wars etc) are not inspiring the faithful and threads already predict problems, frustrations and unresolved issues. The game for some reason it's hard to fathom, still has a hardcore support base which posts here hoping that at some point it will become something to enthuse about again.

Am I essentially correct?

Yep.

Though in truth, the "Support" bit is primarily there because we can't do anything else.

Posts in a forums are all just about passing time. It's like making comments on a facebook post. It's only sub-related, avoids the primary subject and easily derailed.

Every now and then someone comes out and speaks the truth.

Then some others come and bash him/her for not being 'constructive'.

Then the thread gets locked and/or deleted.

And before that happens, I'm with thread starter.

Yes, that's accurate from what I see. One evidence of the apathy that's set in is the declining number of new threads and posts here on the forums... a few seasons ago, it seemed like there was a whole page of new threads every day, but now, there's only a couple new ones a day if that.

What you think is right =/= everyone thing it's right

No one cares about our ideas. Right. I will point out all the nerfs since Omega + some buffs that were requested by players. Every single one was a player suggestion. But yeah, keep telling yourself they don't care about our feedback. Go on. :)

XD funnehs.

Yeah a lot of the nerfs and buffs come from the player base
as a whole there Q.Q, nerfs come from the masses complaining
and buffs come from the constructive suggesters.

I'd say they are listening to us a bit too much on the nerfs tho :X.

static smash was a player request. a way for Mercs to regain energy was much needed.
nerfs on plasma? player suggestion
nerfs on support? player suggestion
nerfs on criticals? player suggestion

the list goes on and on. these are just the most obvious ones from the most recent updates. the devs make the games, their opinion overrides ours by default, so dont complain about which direction the game goes in. many mistakes made are because of too many useless biased complaints, and the devs listening to them.

For Static Smash, #BlameHulk. It was his suggestion. XD

Actually, I'd say the diminishing returns was overshot and poorly done (could've been made less steep but still ~same as it is now) and change to criticals + blocks was actually a step towards reducing luck's impact which is something we need badly.

i suggested it too :P hulk cant take all the credit xD or blame... depends how you look at it.

true, but point is, they do very much listen to US, not just YOU as an individual. they look at what the masses want that they can agree with, and allow that. NPC's are not in their policy, lets not go there again.

Applicable in the forums, too.

We're debating over trivial things.

My thread is a critique based on observation without opinion. A synopsis of evidence with my interpretation if you will. This is a press release I found dated just after Artix acquired ED. It gives you some insight into the dynamics here:

"Artix Entertainment acquires EpicDuel, starts test of master account system

Artix Entertainment (soon to be Battle On Games), the team behind the easily addicting AdventureQuest series of games and the AQ Worlds flash MMO, has recently announced their acquisition of another flash-based pseudo-MMO -- EpicDuel.

The EpicDuel team has been completely integrated into the Artix Entertainment staff, keeping them in charge of their own game while still allowing them the expanded resources and technology that drives the Artix Entertainment products. To celebrate, EpicDuel is getting a complete overhaul, including adding hips (which was a whopping 3,500 frames of animation changes alone), a new player housing system, changes to the battle system, and more.

All of this comes with the new test of the Artix master account system, which will unify accounts across all Artix Entertainment games with a master login. This will, of course, include AdventureQuest Worlds, our specific title of interest here on Massively.

by Seraphina Brennan on Dec 5th 2009 12:00PM"

Epic Duel is a small team who focus on one product in house for a larger gaming company. It made sense for Artix to retain the development team for a number of obvious reasons. Although this has aloud the team to expand the game over time you have to realise that Epic Duel isn't Artix Entertainments main product, financially or otherwise so, the team have relative access to resources. And by that I also mean human resources, the team is small after all. I believe Charfade has suggested in other posts that they can occasionally 'borrow' people and that some testing, video's, updates etc are done by volunteers. As far as I understand it out of a very small team she is the only one who deals with PR amongst other things. I think her comments say a lot really concerning the dynamics here.

I think everyone needs to take these things into account. I do believe their working in your favor. Tying to create a game you want to play in a way you want to play it. After all, what would be the point otherwise? A game development team doesn't work against it's community, that's counter productive.

I think (and i believe considering the strong opinions on this forum that you all support the game otherwise, why comment?) That you have two choices. Give them the time to develop the game you want or go elsewhere. It's that simple.

lets be honest here, basically nearly every nerf or buff was done because of player complaints like most have said above, remember the DEVs wants to make a game that is fun for players to play so they listen to us, but the outcome is that they get the blame for making the game boring by suiting it to players needs when it is completely our fault for pushing them in the first place, epicduel would be a much better place if people didn't take *wins* seriously and be less biased towards their build/classes, epicduel would have more players if everyone just plays for fun and not going on the forums complaining that something needs a nerf because it is the bane to their build.

that pretty true, i remember having TONS of fun before i was aware of wins and what not. exploring th game and finding cool builds and attacks was so entertaining. the competitivity has ruined us for sheer numbers and displays :/

@above yup in beta or alpha players weren't that competitive in gamma it was eh...a bit competitive, in delta is where the problem started, almost everyone has only got *winning* up in their heads.

@Trizz Agreed with what you said.

Most of the nerf that happened in Omega is because of the players. Most players who think one build is OP goes to the forum and say X reason why this build is OP. Then the list keep going until there is no thing to nerf and everything has become weak.

Personally, I think the nerfing issue is because people only care about wins. Wish this was Omega but in Beta where people have fun and doesn't really think too much about wins.

@trizz, although i agree with what u say, we can't blame some players if they care too much about their win percentage. As this is a PVP game, some players would think that if they have better record compare to others, they are better. As this argument might be true, its not always been the case because i can remember beating a lot of good players in this game and i can also remember being owned by some noob players. The very reason behind this, simply LUCK. These factor is the main reason why you can't have a guaranteed win every battle nowadays considering you have equipped all possible cores and better build or strategy over your opponent.

So i guess there's really no definite solution in bringing back the fun and excitement in this game because players nowadays have different perspective and objectives why they play this game. Some played for bragging rights, some played to have a higher win percentage against other players since the very theme of this game is PVP, some played just to collect rare items and have as many achievements as they can have, and some players just doesn't care about all these things and only want to have fun.

Lastly, i want to take this opportunity to tell the DEVS to do what you think is right for this game. At the end of the day, it is YOU who created this game so obviously you know how to make this game fun and worth to play. Some players might contribute something for the betterment of this game but not all stuffs suggested by players are beneficial to all. Few of these things only benefits few players. Hard to accept, but true.

^ sounds like an accurate depiction of every in game fight or on forum rant post!

The devs do listen... and a good chunk of the balance changes / implmentations come from player suggestion.
( I like to think factionless alignments was somewhat influenced by my suggestion but I dunno xD )
on balance a good majority I have seen when it comes to skill balancing was done due to players 'suggesting'
( complaining ) on the forums that a build was OP etc etc ( not saying that's a bad thing of course! ) just some people
who type up balance 'suggestions' sound like all there doing is complaining ( i'm probably guilty of this I'm sure but I'm
to tired right now to think up any )

but yeah the players do have a fairly heavy hand in saying what things need to be tweaked in the long run but some of it
is so subtle and given they don't actually credit certain people when a player suggested idea is implemented then this kind
of things flies under the radar.

Actually this game was pretty competitive from the start....

About this thread: it's interesting because it seems that ED is at the same place it was when I left...2 years ago.
