@Stray Cat - At least for me, and i'm sure for other graphics people it's borderline criminal to save your work as a .jpg -- it really does reduce the quality. My current sig is an uncompressed .jpg and even a heavily compressed .png blows it out of the water (see below) Top: Compressed .png (about 69KB) Bottom: Uncompressed .jpg (about 32 KB) (notice especially the discoloration in the red on the shoulders and really just overall) While I admit that yes, the .png is twice the size of the .jpg, the improvement in quality is quite significant (any graphic artist will tell you that). It's not like 70KB is unreasonable either. @BlackAces - I use the GIMP, which also has the ability to save as .png and .jpg, but as far as I can tell, there isn't a way to save as a .jpg without any loss in quality. I don't have photoshop, so I can't say for sure, but from my understanding it's just inherent in the coding of the .jpg file that it has to compress and hinder the quality of the image. Either way, I've seen from the forums that many people use GIMP as their primary image editor for sigs/banners/etc, so this would be nice for GIMP users. Either way, like I said in my original post a 500x100 image can only get so big as long as it's not a .bmp or .tif, and a 100KB limit really isn't that unreasonable. Anyways, just my 2 cents on the matter, but I feel like other semi-serious to serious graphics enthusiasts would agree with me.
