(Welcome welcome welcome, to my SIXTH story so far! Alright, so, for this one... take every preconception you have about Nield. Throw it out the window. This one is completely different. So with out further ado...)

Prologue: The Fall of a Trickster.

“My name is Legion, for we are many.” “No... NO! St-Stay away from me!” the man cried as he scrambled back as fast as he could on all fours while still keeping this army of one young woman, who was more than just one. The man witnessed around several hundred copies of the woman. The woman herself stood around two metres in height, her ghost-white hair was left to fall down around her ankles as her naturally blood-red eyes glinted with mischief from amidst a face that evoked feelings of a paternal nature in most men, even though the woman was in her mid-twenties. Though her skin was not fair, with a medium amount of tanning, she still managed to give off an impression of a helpless maiden when she wanted to. “What happened to wanting to protect me?” said one of the many iterations with tears in her eyes as her skin started peeling off, revealing the bone beneath, to the man’s horror. “J-J-J-J-Just STAY AWAY!” he cried, as several of the iterations surrounded him, their queries prying into his mind, as they tore the man limb from limb.

“...Pheh. He was way too easy.” Said the woman as she sat, bored, watching the man curled in a shuddering ball. She sighed. “What happened to all the people who afforded me days upon DAYS of fun...? What fun are games and pranks when they capitulate within minutes?” she sighed again, as she lifted the illusion from the man’s eyes, before leaving him there, still shivering in his little ball.

A few days later

The woman picked up a copy of the Daily Dragon and flicked through it. “Let’s see... boring, boring, boring, ooh, a coupon for free haircuts! ...Yeah, boring.” She kept flicking through and was about to put the paper down when one story caught her eye. “Hmm? What’s this? ‘The Willowshire Phantom strikes again!’? Heh... Well, may as well give it a look-over.” ‘Danger in the night! Harlot she-devil feasts on the minds of men! Over the last few months, men have been going missing during the night. All have ended up being found... Once the wicked Phantom has had her way! It starts out the same, a beautiful young woman, lost and looking for help, she lures them in, and shows her true self! Out come the gnashing teeth, the wicked claws, the wrinkly old-‘ At this point the woman snorted and threw the paper into the nearest bin. “What hogwash, it makes me sound like a petty witch.” She muttered to herself. “Though... It may be about time I found somewhere else to have my fun.”

The woman stopped by her 'home', which is to say, the place where she slept, ate, and plotted. There was only one thing of worth to her in that small shack, on the hill, just outside of the town of Willowshire. She picked up her staff and felt it down its full length, the soft, yet rough wood stimulating her sense of touch in a singular manner as her fingers traced along the vine pattern that curled elegantly up to the inlaid gemflower that sparkled brilliant shades of pink in its centre, with petals of green, blue, yellow, red, purple, grey, silver and teal. Just above the gemflower there lay a plain spot, completely smooth, for one to hold the staff, and just above that the wood became a 'cowl', around the 'head' that was a large spherical crystal that emitted a light of its own. The woman pressed each facet of the gemflower in order, pink, green, teal, silver, yellow, purple, red, grey, blue and heard a click. placing her hand upside-down upon the holding spot, she drew the hidden blade out from its sheathe, the divide in the exact centre of the gemflower only becoming apparent at this point, and examined the fine blade with a single eye, first looking at the side, then turning the blade so she was looking at its edge, which appeared to vanish as soon as she did so. She gingerly took the blade in her hand and attempted to bend the blade, but it remained steadfast, with not even a single millimetre of bend. Satisfied with the blade, she returned it to its sheathe, the gemflower imperceptibly clicking back out as soon as the two halves reconciled.

As the woman turned to leave. she became aware of a myriad of sounds not too distant from her humble abode. Glancing out the shack's lone window, she saw what can only be described as an angry mob, armed with all manner of weaponry, though the woman saw not a single torch amongst them. A quick check through small slits and holes around the shack revealed to her that she was completely surrounded. "I can't delude that many people at one time..." she muttered to herself, as she walked outside with her staff to confront this threat. She held her head up high as she survey the crowd before her, which drew quiet as soon as she showed herself to them. "Yes? What do you want?" She asked, in a tone that warned that there best be a good reason for the confrontation. There was complete silence for a few seconds before several voices called the same thing, in unison. "Her! It's her! The Phantom!" At this, the mob erupted in a bloodthirsty frenzy, alarming the woman. "Too many to delude, and too many to fight... at once." Hatching a plan, she retreated bnack into her shack. "I didn't see any torches... so I should be able to hold them off for quite some time." she muttered to herself. Despite the run-down appearance of the shack, it was extremely sturdy, and would withstand any ravage, but that of fire. Though the crowd battered at her abode, they made no progress, and were unable to knock down her door.

"Give it up!" she called out to the mob. "You'll not outlast me!" she smiled smugly, sure of herself. "I wouldn't be so sure of that!" came the voice of what must have been a child. the crowd outside broke out into equal parts cheering, and laughter, which confused the woman. A few instants later the door erupted into flames, startling the woman. "You'll roast for what you did to my daddy, witch!" came another child's voice, before another section of the shack went started smoking. It was not long before the whole shack was aflame and the woman was coughing violently from the smoke.

This is it... I'm going to die... the woman thought to herself, and she closed her eyes. "I have two choices... I stay, and I burn alive... or I go out there and they kill me with their own hands..." the woman whispered to herself. "There is another avenue open to you." came a voice that was ever shifting. The woman's eyes flew open and beheld a figure who was a man, then a little girl, then an ancient woman, then a babe, yet at all times was naught but a sihlouette. "Wh-Who are you?" the woman asked, querulously. "Who we are is not important. What is important is that you, should live yet." the figure waved its hand, and the floor of the shack trembled directly beneath the woman. "Wh-What?!" she shouted, looking down at the floor. When she looked up again, the figure was gone. Soon, a hole opened up beneath the woman and she fell, but she was able to use her staff to stop her descent. However, the hole kept expanding until it was wide enough to swallow the staff too. The woman screamed as she fell into the absolute darkness that awaited her.

Down, down she went, tumbling down thpitch-black hole, until she felt she past through some manner of barrier. Upon crossing this 'threshold' light assaulted her eyes and she found herself 10 feet in the air, just before she came crashing down on top of someone, knocking out both herself, and them.
